Played Like A Pro Bowler
December 13th, 2018A lot of fans believe some Bucs have checked out and are mentally focused on a secluded sunny Caribbean beach bar with warm island women and cold drink.
But don’t you dare suggest to Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching, yams-eating coach Dirk Koetter that Brent Grimes can’t wait to get to his house in Miami or Los Angeles with his wife Miko and call it a season.
Grimes has been banged up this year and some fans believe he’s not wanting to stick his nose in a pile on run plays because he wants to finish out his final games unscathed in the last days of his current Bucs contract.
Koetter called BS on this idea.
“Anybody that thinks he checked out, put that film on [of the Saints game] and I think that film from last week will show that he didn’t,” Koetter said. “As far as the pass game goes, Brent hasn’t really gotten thrown at very much this year. People have been sort of staying away from him.
“It’s no secret, for several years in his career people have tried to run at Brent in the run game and crack block and try to make him tackle. He hasn’t always been at the top of his game in that area, but he had his best game of the season in that area last week – there’s no question.
“He has been fighting through a couple injuries as well. With Brent, we know we’re going to get top flight coverage. If he plays the run like that, that’s why he’s been a Pro Bowl corner.”
To Joe, when an offense doesn’t throw at a cornerback, that is both the ultimate sign of both respect and fear. If teams thought the 35-year old was vulnerable, they would be attacking Grimes.
That’s not the case. And it’s good to see Grimes has been healthier to offer better run support.

“Im wondering if Koetter is stating nice things so he can get nice goodbye gifts?”

Of COURSE pops has checked out. I think he checked out when he inked his last deal with Jason Gump and then he and Miko went out and picked out nursing homes together! And Clueless Koetter hell he checked out and went all Idaho dreaming after the first loss.

Horrible signing by Licht for grimes to pad his retirement savings acct, ya he is doing great contributing to the worst defense in nfl history

“Nursing homes”?! Dude’s 35! I guess in football years, that’s old.
I’ll tell you this Buc Believer, getting old is not for the feint of heart. You don’t get old without experiencing some things!

I like Grimes! He is no Ronde Barber as far as toughness goes but he’s played very good football for the Bucs up until this year. If he’s been playing hurt that explains a lot. But to sugar coat the bad play this year because of one or two decent games is crazy! Other teams have throw at hiim, over him, around him, and through him. This is the same sugar coating McCoy gets daily as to how and why he is a pro bowler but can’t make plays without other D lineman holding his hand.

Dirk is just confused, it’s hard to say teams are throwing at him if he isn’t within 10yrds of the WR. Oh let’s not forget what Antonio Brown did to him. If it hasn’t been for Conte in that game Grimes would have been the embarrassment all over sports center

Please don’t insult us with that ridiculous take coach, he has been getting burned all year when not nursing multiple injuries- we went one year too many with him, period
December 13th, 2018 at 8:25 am
Grimes has been getting burned all season. This is crazy revisionist history.

Grimes playing hard now… trying to squeze one more contract
December 13th, 2018 at 8:41 am
He’s gone. We’ll be seeing him in one of the acronym studios next.

What a joke. I watch the games, teams run his way all the time. I f he isn’t blocked completely out of the play, he either misses the tackle, bounces off the runner, or is dragged like a rag doll. He should never have been resigned, and at such a high salary. Licht, and Clueless need to go.
December 13th, 2018 at 9:00 am
Like Camera Newton says. “hindsight is 50/50” People were begging Licht to sign him 1 more year because of lack of depth, now folks have changed their tune.

Awwww…makes me wanna buy season tickets!

Koetter is being all nice and sweet to everyone,HE KNOWS HE IS IN THE END GAME !
Reality–if you want to slay the dragon you remove the head. The word Licht comes to mind.
Licht’s GM rating with various sites.
One rating service has him rated no.20-another at 24 and another at 27.
Remarks by these services—big spender with questionable results– should have removed Koetter—had lots of capitol, cap space-and draft picks so the Bucs should have been further along.VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO WHEEL THE SWORD!!

i dont know what film dirk is referring to but he’s been getting cooked for 1st downs and big gains all season…..

#NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

Watching Grimes this year reminds me of our Little League plan where everyone HAS to play, we stick the 3′ 2″ kid that weighs 50 lbs less than everyone else on the short side field corner and hope to GOSH they dont run his way
Sneak him in between some lineman a few plays a quarter and cross our fingers!!
But Grimes makes $8 mil a year to suck out loud and look like a little kid trying not to get run over by the big boys…

I (Brent’s mom) will be glad when December 30th is over, so that you Buccaneer fans can find someone else to hate on.
December 13th, 2018 at 12:21 pm
Joe’s not included in that group. Always been a Brent fan.

Good luck to Brent, Miko, and Mrs. Hall. Enjoy your post football life while in retirement, and thank you for your time with the Bucs. You were a true warrior.
Sincerely, all Buc fans

Grimes wasn’t very good early in the year, but then again he hadn’t really played since he didn’t play in the preseason and had been injured. Lately I haven’t noticed him at all – which as you said Joe, generally means teams aren’t throwing his way because he’s doing a good job.
Anywho I don’t foresee any way they bring him back, he’s just too fragile at this point and you don’t know if he’ll be available week to week. I mean it’s possible I’m wrong and he plays for another 5 years, there are a very very select number of guys who do that, but at this point it would be incredibly risky counting on him going forward.
