Koetter’s Plans Unknown To Cappa
December 16th, 2018Friday night on his weekly local radio show, Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching, yams-eating coach Dirk Koetter said he plans to get backup right guard Alex Cappa more snaps the rest of the season.
When Joe spoke with Cappa early last week, this was all news to him.
Right guard Caleb Benenoch simply is not getting the job done. And Bucs fans, always eager to target and roast an offensive lineman as the root of all evil (Joe vividly remembers how the loud crowd could not wait for Donald Penn to get run out of town), have found the plenty of firewood Benenoch has provided.
As a result, many (including Joe), are hoping for Cappa to get more work. How much worse can it get? So this week Joe asked Cappa if he knew of any plan to get him more engaged.
At the time, Cappa knew of no such plan.
“I play whenever they tell me to play,” Cappa said. “I just prepare the same every week and when I am in there I play.”
Cappa was inactive each and every Sunday until the Bucs hosted San Francisco on Nov. 25. He has seen limited play. Though Cappa got in 25 snaps against the 49ers, he has only been on the field for 14 plays, seven snaps each against the Stinking Panthers and the Saints.
“It is just getting experience,” Cappa said of his progression in the NFL. “I don’t know if there is something specific you learn. You kind of learn from experience and know what it feels like to be out there.”
Joe only wishes Cappa could get extra work today. What better way to learn in the NFL than to go up against a tough-as-nails defense like the Crows’?
Cappa simply cannot be worse than Benenoch.

Probably not a good day for Cappa to go to school….

Can’t get worse then Benenoch
We can’t get liedeke or wester involved more? I mean guards and tackles get pigeonholed sometimes. These days guys seem to play multiple spots Kappa was tackle and now guard ?
Let’s get the best guys on the field.

Koetter has no plan.

what another waste of a high draft pick

Why make a “project” out of a 3rd pick?? Isn’t that what the 6th and 7th rounds are for. Licht’s insistence on being the smartest guy in the room with small school guys at premium pick positions is infuriating.

ONCE AGAIN. Koetter starting rotating door Benenoch and not having any clue when and where to put the right player. Didn’t Cappa play a halfway decent game for the small amount snaps he got in San Francisco? They should’ve put Cappa in long ago because yes no one is worse than Benenoch and Cappa needs reps for his rookie year. CLASSIC KOETTER BAD GAME PLAN.

Beneoch was a sixth round “project” and has started and blown at RT/RG for 2 1/2 years. Cappa was impressive looking coming into the draft and he’s only got very little snaps. Great o-lineman come outta the 3rd round. Definintly gonna give him more time to prove over these next games and next season.

You’re not alone Cappa. No one knows what Koetter’s plans are besides fly fishing next season.
