Koetter: Jameis Was “Fantastic”

December 30th, 2018

Strong end to 2018.

Good Jameis took the field at the Den of Depression today.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, had a fine game. Not only did he impress Bucs coach Dirk Koetter, Jameis was hitting receivers (that’s plural) with deep passes and none of them were named “DeSean Jackson.”

(Why, to hear some Bucs fans, only the malcontent Bucs receiver can only run deep routes and Jameis cannot hit anyone on a deep route including Jackson. That theory got blown out of the water again today, eh?)

Jameis connected on 22 of 35 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns.

“Jameis, I thought was fantastic today,” Koetter said. “He made great decisions with the ball. He protected the ball.”

Yes, Jameis did have an ugly interception, only “ugly” in that it set up a Dixie Chicks’ touchdown late in the third quarter.

Jameis tried to hit Mike Evans to the right when the pass, which was right at Evans’ numbers, was tipped by Desmond Trufant and DeMontae Kazee caught the tipped ball at the Bucs-43.

Koetter called the pick “unlucky” for Jameis.

“The ball was on the money and got tipped in the air,” Kotter said. “That wasn’t anything he could do. He actually got to his No. 2 receiver there. No. 1 was covered and he went to his No. 2 and put it on the money.”

If Jameis was trying to show Team Glazer he should be brought back for 2019, let’s just say Jameis made a strong impression.

Jameis did have a very good game…so that is nice for the offseason…however he has had nice games before and then fallen off the wagon ….one more year for L&K&J

  2. WalkdaPlank Says:

I agree, Jameis had a solid game against a terrible, tanking team.

Too bad Joe was rooting for him to lose.

  3. MadMax Says:

I was impressed with JW today….the good Jameis showed up. Some hella throws!

  4. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Jameis was a dime dropping delight!
Good game by him and his receivers.
O line played better. Jameis ran, checked down, and threw it away when needed.
It is almost mind boggling to think our number one running back didn’t crack 100 receiving yards all season?!
That means when Barber is out there, there’s almost no threat of the RB catching it.

  5. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

No question. Jay Miss had a very good game today, when it mattered least.

  6. Bird Says:

    He was dropping dimes

Second half early was dropping poo

    4th : a savage again

    We need that whole time.

  7. Loyaltotheend Says:

Jameis has a pretty good game today. Too bad he doesn’t play like that consistently

He’s the only qb drafted since he entered the league who has started a full season to not throw 3 or more TD’s in consecutive games

  8. Cometowin Says:

Once and for all we wanted the Bucs to lose as it will make it easier to land a dominant player at one of our positions of need. Sacrifice now to be batter later.

  9. JIMMY T Says:

    Hey Alvin
If u knew football u would recognize that the way we lost today, BUCS late touchdown pass by Jameis put BUCS in lead only to have D give up the lead has happened many times! Last year at lest 4 games Jameis threw a late TD only to have the D give it up. It is safe to say that DEFENSE & Kicking woes played a big role in losses the last 2 years. It’s a team game but KEEP blaming JAMEIS if it makes u feel good.

  10. Bad Influence Says:

Jameis had a good game and a bad season. I wish it were the other way around.

  11. Kalind Says:

I think we can settle the Mariota Jameis debate now. Anyone rather have Marcus “The. Call Me Mr. Glass” Mariota?

  12. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Man if only Jamies dumb dumb Winston could always play against OBVIOUSLY TANKING teams!

Geez we’d might actually make the playoffs!!

  13. MHBuc25 Says:

Joe would have been mad at Mike Glennon for not tanking this game. Jameis is the most privileged Bucs QB in history. He can fail over and over for 5 years and the fans still ride jock with Joe. And have off the field problems, that’s next level privilege to keep your job. Fortunately for #3 he has the worst ownership in the NFL who have no clue, willing to sell soul out and still lose.

  14. Bird Says:

    How awesome is Mike Evans

    Joe

I k now you don’t like that from behind
    He is good. He good

  15. BrianBucs Says:

Winston may turn out to be one of those guys that even when he is good, he’s still not quite good enough

  16. DB55 Says:

How about that pass to Hump between two diving defenders? That was a thing of beauty.

I see Jameis gave McIceCream the lead again today with only 5 mins left but the ice cream melted yet again. It’s a bucslife.

    #RunJameisRun

    NY is ready for you

  17. Cgmaster27v Says:

Bucsfan obviously tanking? To did see the falcons won right. Each post you regurgitate makes those of us that have to read it ,just a little dumber.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Jameis absolutely had a very good game today…..he played well enough to win…the defense was very soft at the end of the half and the entire second half.
It couldn’t make a stop when it needed……this happens way too often.

Oddly enough, the difference in the game was two missed two-point plays…..we simply aren’t very good at that.

There is no question that Jameis should be our starter in 2019. We can draft a QB in the 2019 or 2020 draft as a backup plan…..but he should return.

  19. Bobby M. Says:

Meh….he had a solid game against a terrible team. His turnover provided the difference in points lost. Its the same old stuff….looks solid against terrible, looks terrible against solid teams. If he looked terrible against terrible teams this conversation would be over but the fact he gives just enough to provide hope makes him the perfect QB for the Bucs fan base.

We’ll get a draft pick out of it….possibly new coach…new GM. Maybe all that eventually pays off but I cant recall a player in modern history that’s been suspended, benched, had three HCs in 5 yrs that went on to a solid career. Looking forward to watching quality football for the remainder of this season.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Just think if this idiot Dirk hadn’t panicked and threw his 24-year franchise QB under the bus after a bad road game in bad weather – literally the entire year could have been different.

Instead this idiot plays Fitz who outside of a 2 game hot streak to start the year was awful.

That’s why this moron will be fired.

  21. ed Says:

We can expect the “good” Jameis about every 3 games with a couple of stinkers thrown in. He played very well vs Falcons and if that guy would have showed up earlier in games 9-15 Bucs would be in the playoffs.

The throws he made to Godwin and Evans for TDS were fantastic but why is it in game 16 when there was nothing on the line for either team that the All Pro version of Winston showed up?

In playoff atmosphere games he hasn’t performed like this.

If new coach can teach him to play well under pressure than it’s worth staying with him but if he continues to be streaky and force the ball then the new younger QB that will be drafted will have to replace him

  22. Jim Says:

“Fantastic” job, Jameis! Finishing the season with four straight losses is just fantastic! Can hardly wait for next year and another fantastic losing season. Don’t worry, even after Koetter is gone, we’ll find someone else to blame…

Winston may turn out to be one of those guys that even when he is good, he’s still not quite good enough

You are such a tool, who is good enough to win with no running game and no defense?

    I’m still waiting…..

See comments like this make it perfectly fine to ask if you actually watch the games

  25. JabooBuc Says:

Jameis and this team has me completely up in the air. Their output from the QB position was a total of 36 TD’s and 26 INTs for over 5300 yards. That’s pretty impressive minus the INTs obviously. Our TO ratio was insane for the 1st half of the year and like nothing I’ve ever seen. Not only were we turning it over like crazy but not getting any back in return which is also nuts. That TO ratio began to improve towards the end of the year but the season was basically over at that point.

This team needs to improve defensively and needs to be able to run the ball consistently. Infuse the defense and OL with talent and you may have something quickly as far as a turnaround. Bringing a whole new regime means new system and possibly complete revamp of players meaning a lot longer turnaround.

Not sure what I want to happen.

  26. JabooBuc Says:

BTW, Bucs finished season -15 in TO margin which was 2nd to last (SF finished last). If they finish at just even which would still be bottom half of the league you can’t tell me they don’t have at least 3 to 6 more wins.

They lost 5 games by less than 1 score. Their TO margin in those games only were -15.

  27. Doc Says:

Hey Jim, was Jameis the only player on the field during the four losses.

  28. Jim Says:

Hey Doc, is any player more important than the QB? He’s the one who leads the team… So like I said, we can just keep losing and blaming someone else.

  29. ChipBuc Says:

All you Jameis hater trolls are a testament to stupidity. Jameis is always the cause of defeat, and has nothing to do with their wins. Today Winston did every thing a QB could do to lead his team to a win. With 4 minutes to go Winston put the Bucs ahead with a TD pass. Only to watch his defense give up the final score with no time left. This has happened far to many times to Winston in Tampa. If Winston had any trace of a consistent running game, Defense, Kicker, Oline, innovative play caller, he would be tearing it up. So stop with the Jackass uninformed takes. We all know hating when we see it. Haters are gonna Hate. Just saying.

LOL probably the most complimentary thing you have ever said about the kid, unfortunately. — He was fantastic today, absolutely dropping dimes. But no Brian,,, Dan Marino & John Elway are not going to win games when our defense gets run over like that.

Hilarious stuff, Jim. Only you would blame that one on Jameis.
Do you watch the game, when it is on, or is it just background noise?
