JPP Talks About Playing For Dirk Koetter

December 16th, 2018

JPP talks Dirk Koetter

It’s so easy to forget that Jason Pierre-Paul has a disability.

After the loss to the Ravens today, Joe watched JPP spend far more time and effort than most men would securing the watch band on his left wrist with his mangled right hand.

JPP is a warrior.

Aside from returning to the NFL after a horrific fireworks accident claimed a chunk of his hand, Bucs general manager Jason Licht said before the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network that JPP is “playing through pain,” (presumably his knee).

JPP is also playing for Dirk Koetter.

Joe asked JPP what he wanted to say about his head coach considering the team’s record and how the NFL handles struggling coaches.

First, JPP praised his own performance — “nothing but good things coming from me” — and then he moved on to Koetter.

“As far as the coaching, I like it. He keeps it as real as it is. You know, you can’t ask a coach [for] nothing more but the guys to win for him,” JPP said. “But as far as that, I just think he keep it as real as it is and he tell you how it is. When you get a coach like that, you just go all out. And that’s what I’ve been doing.”

JPP added that he thinks the team didn’t do enough fighting for each other and Koetter, and that’s why the Bucs have a losing record.

  1. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Keeping it real ain’t getting Gerald McCoy sacks or Jamies Winston touchdowns in the second half

    Results all that counts

  2. Gino Says:

Think JPP may be right. Lots of guys laying down especially on offensesive side

  3. Bucs fans short memories Says:

If he is really keeping it real then Dirk should be looking most of the players in the eyes and telling them they suck at football.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

“As far as the coaching, I like it.”

    What an endorsement.

I know when players talked about playing for Dungy and Gruden and Kiffin they’d use strong language such as they “like it.”

  5. ElioT Says:

What a complete cluster-f**k this team has become.

Everything has been explored including keeping Koetter around for continuity and the franchise’s best offense.

What do they need to do?

    – More weapons for Winston?
    – More defensive talent?
    – Better free agent acquisitions?
    – A #1 overall draft pick for a franchise QB?

    No!

They need a complete overhaul of the entire franchise and the Glazier kids need to hire someone who knows football to make these decisions.

You can’t bring in some glorified journeyman meathead scout as your GM to make these calls.

They need someone who is above GM and HC to run the operation and the rich kids need to step back and do what they do best…

    Just sign the f**king checks.

APATHY IS COMING and it’s coming hard, no matter what, as long as the fish head stays the same.

  6. TonyC Says:

What’s he going to say? This is such a useless article.

  7. AleteredEgo Says:

Team has not quit….L&K will get another year and Jamyth one more myth buster year….if this time next year nothing has changed…change will then come….Patience Coach hoppers

  8. brooks55hof Says:

We sure looked respectable in L. AGAIN

  9. bucanation Says:

Bucs should of changed lasy year Ego you are out of your mind to expect buc fans to suffer another year because you do not want Dirts dicck to find a new home

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Altered Ego………This current regime has done nothing to earn another year. Not quitting is an expectation not a standard of achievement.

Dirk took over a team that was fully built. There is no more pieces we could of given him to win with. He has choked for three years now.

No results for Licht or Dirk. They both have proven that cannot provide reaults. This won’t change & it has nothing to do with patience.

  11. bucanation Says:

Bye the way Dirt said the offence was at fault well isn’t this his offence isn’t this his o line isn’t this his running back isn’t this his qb / I want someone here to tell me what will change if Dirt stays and what signals have you seen that it will all change next year ok goooooo

  12. AleteredEgo Says:

We have seen what Koetter’s offense can do with a real NFL QB..and Jameis has not shown in 4 years he is that

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Np JPP..the bucs don’t have a losing record because they are not playing for Dirk. They have a losing record because of Dirks stubborness and unwillingbess to let his mentor, Pressbox Smitty go at the beginning of the season. And its gonna cost him..his job.

  14. bucanation Says:

they said the team didn’t quit on him last year but its the same result ok now go

  15. ElioT Says:

Think about that drive when Jameis hit the bomb to Evans for 64 yards.

    Typical Bucs’ meltdown mode, 3rd & 20.

How bad would this game have looked if Jameis and Evans hadn’t pulled that play out of their a**es?

Not even close to competitive against a rookie “gimmick” QB that was throwing hissy fits on the sidelines after his fumble.

There is a SERIOUS problem with coaching here.

    This team is a joke.

  16. bucanation Says:

Alter ego tell us what are you even talking about

  17. bucanation Says:

Who or what players we can bring in that already hasn’t been done that will change my mind , what qb are yiu talking about Ryan / now remember he could not get it done with Ryan and was fired

  18. AleteredEgo Says:

bucsnation….Jameis can not execute ….he still after 4 years has many many flaws…

  19. bucanation Says:

So your blaming matt Ryan for Dirt getting fired in Atlanta ?

  20. bucanation Says:

So you think Flaco will come here and run away from pressure and save us with his lightning Frankenstein speed

  21. ElioT Says:

    APATHY.

There is nothing I can think of that should get any fans excited for next year.

    – Clean house
    – Bring in the best coaching talent on earth
    – Allow the Bucs to play with 12 men

    Not even a half-chubb here.

WE have all been abused for far too long and it all feels empty at this point.

    It’s a Bucs life.

  22. JimmyJack Says:

Altered Ego…….Dirk has had 3 years and still can’t figure out the RG position. He has no players doing anything in the backfield.

He keeps putting Quiz in and he misses tons of blitz pickups.

His WRs look really bad and now can’t get open all of the sudden.

He is incapable of success on 3rd & 1.

He has abadoned the running game numerous times when it’s successful.

He makes a ton of time management mistakes.

    WTF are you looking at.

  23. bucanation Says:

I am not defending Jamis but who is better who will be are running back?

  24. JimmyJack Says:

This friggen coach is running any talent he has into the ground.

Don’t be coming here preaching patience. 3 years is more then enough time to produce results in this league………I could maybe see if he had taken over a team that needed a full rebuild but that wasn’t the case.

It’s been 3 years and no results. There’s been no evidence to say it is getting better.

  25. Not there yet Says:

Lol that’s a disability if JPP was a journalist but he doesn’t write for a living.

  26. bucanation Says:

I didn’t want J W here from day1 but what about all we were lacking was a pass rush so we have that now what is it now or what will it be next year , and Dirt cant even look the media in the face how can these players have e respect for him Its because they cant . Dirt benched Fitz because he carelessly turned the ball over because he didn’t care what position he put the coach or his team mates in and where they hide the hot dogs at half time .

  27. Gman Says:

Jpp is one of the few guys playing for his team and fans this year

  28. Bird Says:

Did you here about what Dotson said after game

    [Whistling: Hey, over here.]

“That it’s every man for himself. He is not worried about saving Koetter job. He is only worried about his own “

What a scum bag. Lost a lot of respect for him today.

  29. JimmyJack Says:

The bottom line is this guy has been here for three seasons and provided no results.

There has been no progression only regression. We deserve a better coach who can do better them developing none….not 1 lineman(offense or defense) in three years.

We will never win at that rate. Never. And don’t tell me about Ali Marpet because he regressed in 2016 & 2017.

  30. bucanation Says:

I wanted it to work with Dirt but watching the rams coach and the bears u can see the bucs are going the wrong way there just a bad vibe in Tampa feels like the Culverhouse years and for those of u that do not remember it u don’t want too .

  31. John B Says:

It was like watching an old Okalahoma Sooner VS West Texas State game – WTS hung tough in the first half, but the true depth and talent of the REAL NFL team on the field just wore them down

We are a division III homecoming opponent

Can’t they just fire them all tonight?

  32. Destinjohnny Says:

    Sb are u out there?
    6-10 I called it

  33. Kobe Faker Says:

“Jared Goof going back to his Fisher version”

    Kobe Faker

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

And every year when they start down their road to Suckdom they blame not enough fans coming to the games. No one in their right mind would pay to watch this garbage team and get ripped off on overpriced concessions and parking. But wait, we will give you some cheap cheesy toy at the gate. I wonder how this works out for all there Pooter Partners. By the way, your uniforms suck, just like your team.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

I know this is a hot take, but I think anyone that changes words because they think it’s funny, like Dirk is now Dirt, or Pewter is Pooter, I think all those people should be tossed into a fire pit.

I know it sounds extreme, but I believe most people are on my side on this. We must rid the world of this plague on humanity.

    God bless.

  36. LargoBuc Says:

I like Koetter. He has his flaws. He also has his strengths. But this is a results driven league. We need wins. And Koetter has not done the job, utilizing his staff and talent. And three years with no playoffs and two losing, possibly double digit losing, seasons. It’s time to move on and this team has ALOT of tough decisions to make.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

NBC has stats for the speed and height of FGs. That’s actually really interesting – I’ve never seen it before. Not sure if it’s new or if I’ve just somehow missed it previously.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Look at that bum Goff, he loses at home, on national TV, overthrows the guy in the endzone to end the game?!? Wow, what a bum. Cut him now, he’s worthless, not worth keeping around. If you can’t make every single throw on every single down you need to be out of the league. It’s time for the Rams to move on, it’s been 3 years and no SB ring, and he’s still making rookie mistakes. What a disaster.

  39. MHBuc25 Says:

Dirk Koetter can’t wait to leave Tampa, his bags were packed 2 months ago. This is a pathetic organization and that includes poor scouting. They draft players with red ass flags all over them and deserve their sad fate yearly. I had season tickets for 10 years but I’d rather let a dog chew my limbs off than make that mistake again. Schiano is doing very well and wants to say hello to everyone in Tampa sucking player ass. Goodnight.

  40. adam from ny Says:

jameis was throwing with uncanny accuracy early on in the game

  41. adam from ny Says:

djax’s stretch the field and get behind the defense strides were surely missed…and our receivers are crunched up on because of it…djax is prolly laughing as he watches the receivers produce less and less by the week….his stretching the field, and defenses having to respect his speed, was a vital cog to the success of the wr and te corps

  42. Defense Rules Says:

Adam from NY … Good point about missing DJax ‘stretching the field’. Can surely say the same thing about missing OJ (and not just his blocking). And from what I’m seeing, Godwin has no business being on the field right now … something’s wrong there; he looks nothing like the player we saw last year & earlier this year. Of course, the same could be said of Mike Evans … he’s pretty badly beaten up right now it looks like.

So Jameis is left with a sieve for an OLine (he’s now been sacked 9 times in the last 3 games), TEs with marginal blocking skills, RBs who aren’t exactly setting the world on fire (in more ways than one), WRs who are pretty well beaten up & who can’t seem to get any separation … while going up against the NFL’s #1 defense (in POINTS ALLOWED … #2 in YARDAGE ALLOWED). No, Jameis didn’t have a great game (13-for-25 … 52% … 157 yds, 1 INT, 2 rush, 0 yds is nothing to write home about), BUT … this was a TOTAL TEAM LOSS. No one on this offense rose up to really help him out much.

And defensively Bucs were effectively playing with half a defense against a very predictable Ravens offense. We knew last week pretty much what they were going to do … RUN THE BALL DOWN OUR THROATS … and we STILL couldn’t stop them. It’s called LACK OF TALENT, unless we’re all naive enough to think that marginal defenders like Riley Bullough, Isaiah Johnson, Javien Elliott, Ryan Smith, Josh Shaw, Devante Bond, Josh Shaw surrounded by rookies Vita Vea, Carlton Davis, Jordan Whitehead & MJ Stewart are all good enough to stop the NFL’s #3 rushing offense (probably ranked higher after yesterday).

Sorry, but the better-built TEAM won yesterday. It wasn’t so much about coaching as it was about what each coach had to work with offensively & defensively. THAT’s more on ownership & management than it is on coaching. We’ve got some excellent pieces to build around for next year (JPP, Vea, LVD, ME13, OJ, Cam, Ali and yes Jameis). We just don’t have nearly enough of them. Thank you Jason Licht.

  43. Owlykat Says:

The biggest joke has been Koetter’s insistence on playing Rogers as the third down back. At one point Jameis tried to run to avoid a blitz and Rogers was like a rag doll trying to block the Raven’s MLB who went right through Rogers and easily took Jameis down. Cross needed to be the third down back. When Rogers is canned no NFL team will pick him up. Rogers is just a Koetter pet along with Warhop! Koetter will say the OL was a problem, which is a huge understatement, but will never criticize Warhop and buys and repeats every excuse Warhop comes up with to deflect any criticism of his total incompetence. The Bucs must not only fire Koetter but also send all of his pets with him that have dragged down the Buc’s performance like an anchor! A great NFL HC can come in and turn around this team just like happened with Bears with their regime change. It will not take that many new players. It is the coaching. We don’t have to change our QB either, especially when there are no great QBs in this year’s draft. Just insert Fritz as the red zone QB to fix the lack of touchdowns in the red zone. That alone would have resulted in a one point win over the Ravens without changing any of the players otherwise. But I am not unhappy with the loss because we need to get rid of Koetter and his pets like cutting out a cancer!

This from our best defensive guy and vet, but his site promotes JW of DK weekly. Shame!
