Jameis Falls To 26th In Completion Percentage

December 17th, 2018

The numbers are unsettling and you may consider them however you wish.

When it comes to good old fashioned completion percentage, you know, how many of your throws are caught, America’s Quarterback is struggling this season.

Among QBs with a minimum of 100 attempts, Jameis Winston ranks 26th in the NFL at 63.7 percent.

Last year, Jameis ranked 14th in the league at 63.8 percent (minimum 140 passes attempted), just behind Joe Flacco.

NFL rules favoring passing haven’t had an effect on Jameis’s completion percentage like they have for so many other quarterbacks and offenses this season. Joe’s not sure what that all means, but it is an ugly stat worthy of scrutiny.

Hopefully, Jameis can finish strong and vault into the top-20 by the end of the season.

Jameis and Ryan Fitzpatrick have each started seven games for the Bucs this season. Fitz ranks 15th in the NFL with a 66.7 completion percentage.

    1980s scheme, 1980s results.

  2. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s the scheme! It’s the blocking! It’s the drops! It’s the run-game! It’s the defense! It’s the special teams!
    Pick it up Jameis.

  3. Loyaltotheend Says:

Careful Joe, if you bring up any info that shows Jameis is average at best you are labeled a “hater”

  4. BucsFanAgain? Says:

Cue Rod Munch or Ndog (and others):

    “But, But, But,……..

    INSERT THE LAME EXCUSE HERE.

He’s as good as any of the greatest quarterbacks of all time!

    INSERT CHERRY-PICKED STATISTIC HERE.

You all are haters if you don’t think Winston is awesome.”

  5. Mr Lucky Says:

I wonder how people feel about Jameis vs. Shawn King?

Remember when King was let go? How long did HIS career last?

    Just saying……

  6. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Jameis vs. Shawn King??!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, ok that is a stretch, even for Jameis detractors.

  7. tnew Says:

Winston is playing so afraid. This is the first time I’ve seen this trait in him for this long of a time. Fear does not = good QB play. Everyone loves to bang the drum on avoiding the INT, but being afraid of it just doesn’t work. He will have a new staff next season or he should be gone.

Either fire Koetter and keep Winston or fire Winston and keep Koetter.

  8. Waterboy Says:

He has to stop dropping passes. There were at least 5 that I remember yesterday.

  9. Jean Lafitte Says:

13/25 157 yds 0 TD 1 INT <— that's some job saving numbers there. Out of the 12 missed passes 3 were dropped and the rest were awfully inaccurate. The season Jameis got Koetter killed.

  10. Etzel Says:

Every player regresses under “Gutless” Turd Cutter. Why should Jameis be any different??

  11. D-Rome Says:

I’d like to see his completion percentage be higher than where it’s at, but the number I care about the most is his INT%. That is horrible! Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jay-Miss are ranked 1 and 2 in that category.

Jay-Miss has a higher completion percentage than Aaron Rodgers. However, Rodgers has only thrown 2 INTs all season. Jay-Miss averages 1.4 INTs a game.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Jean I will correct you on that. There were a few incompletions where receivers had no separation and we’re not open.

Horrible route running on both 3rd & goal plays(one was a awful decision by Winston to not throw it away).

Personally when this team gets into a 1st a goal situation I come away upset at the play calling if Winston only gets one chance to make a TD.

  13. Loyaltotheend Says:

    Excuses for Jameis Winston

    -Bad coaching
    -Bad scheme
    -Receivers drop passes
    -Bad offensive line
-Other teams corners have great hands
    -Bad kicker
    -Other teams hit too hard
    -Koetter doesn’t like him
    -Defense is awful
-Plays in the same division as Brees, Newton and Ryan
-Receivers like Humphries are too short
    -DeSean Jackson is a meanie
    -Bucs fans are racist
-Uber drivers are out to get him
-He doesn’t have a Pro Bowl RB
    -Fitz stole his confidence

    Did I miss anything?

  14. Lamarcus Says:

Offense just looks difficult to execute no easy passes

We are attempting passes 11 yards an avg

  15. Waterboy Says:

I recently watched a football life where they covered Doug Williams and talked about how he asked the Bucs for 800k per year after taking them on a playoff run (which would have made him the 52nd highest paid QB as a starter) but Culverhouse said 400k. Williams then went down to 600k and Culverhouse still said 400k and finally he realized it wasn’t so much about the money but they just wanted a different face representing the franchise. I’m starting to see similarities between that situation and a loud portion of the fan base down there when it comes to Winston.

  16. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Something to ponder:

Jameis currently ranks exactly 1st in the NFL on 3rd down passer rating.

  17. Etzel Says:

If you don’t understand how a low completion percentage is indicative of a 4-vert scheme… Well then I’ve got free border wall with your name on it.

  18. adam from ny Says:

i remember when doug williams used to complete like 50 percent of his passes…

  19. The Real Malloy Says:

You’re gonna pull the race card? That’s sad.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

he’s been playing scared because he knows dirk will pull him if he sneezes wrong for fitz magic…..he’s looking over his shoulder…..

that wont change until we get a new HC!!!!!

  21. adam from ny Says:

look at qb stats from the 80’s…jameis needs to be put in a ufo and sent back to the 80’s…he’d be the best in the league…

in 2 weeks dirk will be put in a ufo and sent to saturn

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

Waterboy- Because the situation HERE has nothing to do with production, right?! It doesn’t fit your convenient agenda, so it HAS to be racist. Jameis couldn’t hold Doug Williams’ jockstrap!
    Any comparisons are willfully ignorant.
WHEN Jameis actually accomplishes something, and we still have these lingering issues, you might have a point.

  23. Cgmaster27a Says:

64% is good joe when your average air yards an attempt is 9, which is the highest in the NFL. I know it might be shocking to some but when every attempt is about first down yardage, you might not compete as many passes. Look at other offenses in the NFL, some deep shots with a quick passing game. Anyone see any screens these past 2 weeks? Anyone see any short passing game? I haven’t, and we wonder why his percentage is “only” 64%.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    Waterboy

    i hear ya…..

imo, we havent reached that point yet as i do believe with jameis its about production and perception but i do like glazers would prefer someone to share the face of the franchise title with winston until he can keep his nose clean and win some playoff games…..

  25. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Can we try to keep race out of it, regarding Jameis?

I am on record as being a big JW fan.

I don’t know, maybe 3% of Jameis detractors are basing it on race?
    If that many?

I don’t think it helps our argument or the in-fighting amongst us Bucs fans that seems to have become a damn war, at times!

    GO BUCS

  26. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

JW is 5th in QBR and 10th in Yards Per Attempt. Also take a look at the Bucs dropped pass stats , sometimes you have to look a little deeper into the numbers to see the bigger picture. Bucs are also 4th worst in QB hits in the NFL.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

But hey let’s fire the coach

  29. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Waterboy

What a crock. The fanbase doesn’t write checks. JW’s play speaks for itself.

I loved Doug Williams. JW is no Doug Williams.

  30. pelbuc Says:

Has nothing to do with race. Everything to do with character and skills. JW is not the future for this franchise. I wish him well but I’ve seen enough to know he’s not going to magically turn it around. He doesn’t have “it”. Next up!

  31. miken Says:

So last year when Jameis was bad it was the D’s fault. Early in his career it was the fault of not having WRs. Now this year, its the play calling/ scheme. Got it. When he got suspended, it was the alcohols fault.I’m guessing next year, it will be the new coaches fault.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

of course his % would drop when dirk has a game plan that calls for the QB to throw as much as he did in the rain…..throwing that much without running the ball makes no sense at all…..

ravens throw the ball to keep the defense honest…..but if the bucs did their homework, they wouldve saw that the raven have rushed for over 250yards in the last 4 or 5 games….running the ball is what they do best…..so thats what they did….and we did nothing to stop it….

    why not throw bubble screens?…draws?….rb screens?….jet sweeps?….

nawl dirk loves his 4vert system too much….lol…

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  33. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

In related news…Evan, Godwin and Brate continue to pile up “passes defended” stats…

  34. BucsFanAgain? Says:

    1976

QB rating is approximately 30th not 5th for the season so far.

Does that justify 1st QB in court settlements with women for the year? Does 5th QBR? Some here would say that it does. Others, like me, will be glad that he’s gone and we can feel good rooting for the Bucs again.

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Keep Jameis for 2019……no big contract beyond that…..make him prove himself….the only other option is to cut him and draft a QB……but that may be more of a crap shoot than keeping him.
His performance has been disappointing. Here’s hoping he improves….

    But, he can’t play scared.

  36. Jean Lafitte Says:

    813bucboi

You have to have a QB that can pull off those plays. You ever see JW throw a touch pass in a screen play. It’s a 90 mph fastball. Jameis can rifle the ball to a standing target pretty good but his accuracy and touch on moving receivers is shoddy.

  37. Not there yet Says:

Lol so sad the fans we have here. The whole team is playing like trash under Koetter and people can’t do anything but bash Winston. Bad coaching pretty much sums up this franchise the last decade.

It is what it is we just have ignorant fans that keep falling for anything but I don’t know where these stats come from but hey if Winston is garbage so is Aaron Rodgers with a 5-8-1 record and a 61% completion stat. Read people read please, that one stat is not the end all be all unless you think Fitz is the 15th most accurate qb in the nfl right now. Winston will get another coach and another chance to take a step and next year will determine his fate but for now keep on bashing like you miss the josh mccown, mike glennon days

  38. SilverBuc Says:

Actually Jameis’s accuracy on moving targets has been pretty high this year, check the film and you’ll see. Jameis is also #1 in the entire NFL when outside the pocket.

  39. Jean Lafitte Says:

    SilverBuc

really? explain 26th in completion percentage

  40. D1QB Says:

    CGMaster,

If you haven’t seen the short passes maybe you noticed the number of long passes.

    For example,

Last week, 6 deep passes…4 comp.

The previous game, 5 deep passes out of 30

    The other one, 3 deep

But if we look back to week 8
    14 deep ball attempts.

I think that the field looks bigger on TV or something because the “too many deep balls…No short routes” is just so much bull spit….But the need for another excuse outweighs the facts.

  41. SilverBuc Says:

“Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game, Koetter said it was “disappointing” how many drops the Bucs had in the first half and said, “I don’t think Jameis [Winston] could throw the ball any better than he did in the first half.””

  42. Jean Lafitte Says:

3 – that’s how many drops but games are won/loss in the second half. JW disappeared

  43. SchwiftyBuc Says:

  47. Reach87 Says:

If you see reasons (drops, pressure, yards to go, etc) as excuses, then you don’t understand the game or the NFL. Every (every) QB in the league has them. If you choose to look at all the factors associated with the QB you can do that too. QBR, completion percentage, turnovers, sacks, hits, etc are all valid indicators. A person who understands football (particularly the NFL, not Madden) understand that those “excuses” tell the real story for all (all) QBs in the NFL. Got it, it’s much easier to spew “no excuses “ over and over again or point to win-loss instead of recognizing the real issues and real picture. As you progress from your sophomore year in high school, you’ll start to learn more about the game and challenge yourself to think instead of pout. Go Bucs!

  48. SilverBuc Says:

Jameis Winston was undefeated in college, arguably the best quarterback to ever play college football. Then he went to the Bucs…

  49. Loyaltotheend Says:

    @SilverBuc

Just means he was on a loaded college team stacked with talent, doesn’t mean he was great. He had an amazing first year but his pro career mainly resembles his 2 nd year where he got bailed out by having a talented roster that overcame his turnovers

    Besides he wasn’t undefeated…

College is fun but it’s called amateur sports for a reason

Posted eaqrlier today, so please ignore:

    New and updated!
After 14 games, both of the Bucs QBs have started and played approximately 7 games apiece. So, the updated totals are:
    Fitz: 164 of 246 = 66.7% JW3: 188 of 295 = 63.7%
    Fitz: 2366 yards JW3: 2311 yards
    Fitz: QB rating = 100.4 (10th in league) JW3: QB rating = 85.3
    Fitz: 17 TDs (6.9% of passes) JW3: 14 TDs (4.72% of passes)
    Fitz: 12 INTs (4.9% of passes) JW3: 13 INTs (4.4% of passes)
Note that neither one has a TD/INT ratio of at least 2:1.
Note: I am pretty sure they have played with the same offense, the same running backs, the same receivers, the same defense and the same coaches.

It seems at BEST: Jameis Winston = Ryan Fitzpatrick. Can Jameis improve????
Most who do have certainly done so by their 4th year in the league, so I’m not so sure.

The Bucs QBs have combined for 4677 yards passing (MOST in NFL), and 31 TD passes (tied for 3rd in NFL). But………………………..
JW3 has 13 INTs (tied for 4th in the NFL)
Fitz has 12 INTs (tied for 7th in the NFL)
So, together they have 25 INTs, which is TEN more than anyone else in the NFL.

The Bucs’ turnover percentage is 19.8%! That means that 1 of every 5 drives ends in a turnover. That is also the worst in the NFL. The bottom five also includes Jax, SF, Ariz, and Buff. All five teams with 5 or fewer wins.

They need to find a QB who can throw TD passes without turning the ball over so often. All of the playoff teams have a QB whose TD percentage is ~ 5% or so, but none have an INT percentage greater than 4%.

Everyone on this team needs to improve.

  62. BrianBucs Says:

Between Winston’s accuracy problems and Koetter’s slow developing downfield pass patterns, I’m surprised it’s as high as it is.
If Winston didn’t stare down his receivers so much or try to force the ball to guys that are covered, maybe it would be higher

  63. Oneilbucs Says:

I said that yesterday and last week . Jamies is playing not to make a mistake and that’s the problem. He knows people in the national media wants him out of the league and we know a lot of white people are looking at his race more than his play . Look how Andrew Luck played yesterday and how many bad games he has had in his career. But eather they blame the team he’s on or the coach but he all ways seems to get a pass just like trash Elie. But they really want Jamies out and for some in the national media it’s his race and some they just hate him. But that’s why I say Murry is doing the right thing go play baseball cause it’s hard being a black quarterback in the NFL especially when you know and a lot of fans know that you get judged harder and it doesn’t matter if your team suck you will not get the passes that white quarterbacks get all the time. And don’t tell me about Tebow or Manziel or even Blake cause Bortles will be in the league for the next 10 or 15 years.

If Nick Foles gets the Eagles deep in the playoffs I think being a winneing quarterback trumps this 24 year old. Last time Bucs were in playoffs an older Jeff Garcia who had gotten the 49ers and Eagles to playoff games was under center. Before that the last time Tampa bay were in the playoffs Brad Johnson another older quarterback who by the way had gotten the Redskins and the Vikings in the playoffs was at the helm. Experience and ability to adapt to defenses is what this team needs not a shaky quarterback who fundamentally isn’t right

@TBBF … “Keep Jameis for 2019……no big contract beyond that…..make him prove himself….the only other option is to cut him and draft a QB……but that may be more of a crap shoot than keeping him.” Fans can argue til they’re blue in the face, but REALITY should tell us that the Bucs have MANY MORE PROBLEMS than just QB. As I look at today’s team, can only come to one conclusion: IT’S A MESS. And that mess starts with the owners, travels down through the GM & his scouting department, to the HC & his coaching staff, all the way to a roster whose talent level right now should rank close to #32 in the league.

Problem is … can’t fix everything overnight, so it’s a matter of focusing on PRIORITIES. IMO, Priority #1 is to get some REAL MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP in here (without that, nothing else works). President of Football Operations … Check. New GM & scouts … Check. New HC & coaching staff … Check. Let them decide who stays and who goes because the players have to match their philosophies to a large extent.

But dumping Jameis & using our top pick next year on a QB next year isn’t smart. Jameis was picked #1 in 2015 because he has talent. Has he progressed to where we’d hoped he’d be? Probably not, BUT … he STILL has talent. Give a new coach a chance to see if he can develop Jameis into a winning QB. We’ve got sooo many other NEEDS to fix this team, needs that are higher PRIORITIES than QB. (Keep in mind who’s under contract for 2019 and who isn’t). NEEDS like 3 OLinemen and at least 1 RB on offense, 2 DLinemen and at least 1 LB, 2 CBs & 1 Safety on defense. Might want to find a Kicker in there someplace too. That’s roughly HALF of our starters & key rotational players … BEFORE we even start building DEPTH. It’ll take AT LEAST 2 years to rebuild the mess that Jason Licht has created. And that’s IF the new guys do everything right. Sorry folks, this team is NOT close to winning any championships.

In the meantime see what we have in Griffin. If we lose out so what? Better draft pick. If we actually have something we will know.

Winston is no more than any of the legacy of Joe’s man crushes. Freeman, Manziel, etc.

    Joe KNOWS QBs…not!

  72. Defense Rules Says:

@Oneilbucs … ‘He (Jameis) knows people in the national media wants him out of the league and we know a lot of white people are looking at his race more than his play.”

Oneilbucs, you do know I presume that 69-70% of the players in the NFL are black, don’t you? That’s not what I’d call discrimination, considering that as of 2017, 13.4% of the American population was black. And as of last week, 6 of the 32 QBs starting in the NFL were black (19%). Even that’s higher than the percentage of the American population that’s black. So do us all a favor … please stop playing the race card as an excuse for Jameis’ performance on the field. He doesn’t use it; neither should you.

  73. JimmyJack Says:

Defense Rules……I think it’s very tough to say what the top priorities will be for the next HC. Whoever comes in is going to want to produce wins in year 1.

I really think when you look at the current roster on paper you aren’t going to win anything without a good QB.

Whatever decision being made at QB will likely be the biggest factor between winning/losing next year.

I would easily put QB as a top priority next year. Not saying Winston can’t fill that priority but IMO the future plans for that position is perhaps the biggest priority.

  74. BucsFanAgain? Says:

Winston QB Rating 85.3, 36th out of the 2018 regular season QB’s.

  75. Defense Rules Says:

JimmyJack, I hear ya about QB being the top priority, but Jameis MAY be able to fill that role IF the next group focuses on improving this OLine & bringing a really good RB onboard. Even if we cut DJax (personally think that’s a foregone conclusion now), we’ll still have OH & Cam, ME13 & Godwin in the fold. I REALLY hope that we re-sign Humphries, but he’s played his butt off this year & I think he’ll have a lot of options. Barber’s functional as a #2 RB, but beyond that I’d let the rest walk (including RoJo).

We’ve got to fix this defense or next year will just be more of the same. LOTS of NEEDS there, and especially the need for LEADERSHIP. I’m not a big fan of Kwon at MLB admittedly, but he is an excellent LB overall (just prefer him outside). I loved Beckwith’s play, but I’m still not convinced that his injury isn’t a LOT worse than everyone let on (and if that’s the case, he may never be the same player). Just soooo many needs …

Every season Jameis gets worse. But the O line gets worse and now these top flight receivers are dropping passes at an alarming rate. Great job Dirk!!! Coach of the Year!

  80. Pittsshore Says:

That’s cuz he sucks Glad we only have two games left of his dunce plays.

  81. Ndog Says:

I’m done as a Bucs fan I want Jameis gone so can all route for the same losing QB like everyone wants. At least that way Jameis might actually have a chance to succeed, while this fan base continues to blame the next QB, cause you know they are the sole reason for wins and losses. Please Glazers just let him leave so we can all move on and lose with the next guy, like all these brilliant minds would like.

  82. Oxycondoms Says:

Licht is at the local winghouse scheming for the next cohen and nagy combination. Or maybe he has discovered the next mahomes as he looks into his empty beer mug and reads the fortune for the bucs next year

  83. Jmarkbuc Says:

    @silverbuc

“Jameis Winston was undefeated in college, arguably the best quarterback to ever play college football. Then he went to the Bucs”

Aguayo was the greatest kicker in college history….

The Bucs had nothing to do with him turning in to a head case either… He just wasn’t what he was hyped to be.

  84. Jmarkbuc Says:

    @Ndog

Cheese and rice man, if I need whine I’ll go to Napa and Sonoma.

Truth is we can go 6-10, with just about anybody. JW is = to just any average QB.

The Bucs WILL go on. It ain’t about one average player, never has been.

  85. Jmarkbuc Says:

    DR

Agreed, lots of needs on D.

Also agree Kwon isn’t a MLB, if he doesn’t learn to tackle better he won’t be a good LB period.

Sadly what we need is another Hardware Man in the middle, I think Hardy was the single biggest thing that launched Tampa ‘s Tenacious D’s….

  86. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    @Loyaltotheend..

    You for got one!!

Another excuse: Jameis is brown so ppl don’t like him..
    —————–

I hear that one from silverbuc and oneil..lol…okay so we are rooting for the rest of the team, most who are black..okay..

Newsflash: Most of us don’t like Jameis cause he’s an idiot of the field and a terrible QB on the field..

  87. Joe Says:

What will Joe write about if Winston and GMC would leave

That the team needs a quarterback and a defensive tackle?

  88. James Walker Says:

Interesting. Brad Johnson had a 62.3% percentage and won a Superbowl.

  89. James Walker Says:

2 and 1/2 plays? Does that seem small? There are only 11 players on the field at any one time and only 50-60 players per game. Do the math, 2 and 1/2 plays per game is statistically significant. Solve for the “Z”, if you can do the math.

  90. nate s Says:

he will never win a superbowl time to move on

  91. D1 Says:

    Defense,

Dumping our QB and selecting one next IS smart.
The NFL and the Players Union have a salary system in place that limits the salary range of QB’S selected in the draft. After 4 yrs that financial leverage is lost and a QB becomes one of if not the highest paid player on the roster. The salary cap limits overall spending so after year 4 a QB accounts for 20% est. of a teams total cap.

The effect is multifaceted as it effects a teams ability to spend in free agency but it also limits the ability of the team to resign it’s own veteran players.

If Winston isn’t performing currently in relationship to his draft selection then dramatically increasing His compensation is foolish. Why pay more for less. The team needs multiple players to be considered a contender and for Winston to win. If Winston is resigned then the team will be unable to add the players necessary for him to succeed.

The humorous part of the winston apologists argument is that the conditions they say are required for success are not available if winston resigns. The irony is delicious as is watching the absolute lack of awareness or foresight exhibited by this faction when they construct their defense of winston. They fail to see that at some point , that their own argument collapses upon itself burying everything they champion. It’s almost impossible to construct a house of Cards that contains the potential for so much self inflicted damage . The humor is watching being constructed knowing what disaster is right around the corner.

Sorry if I seem to enjoy the process but Ill focus back on the team and disagree with you that not signing winston for a rookie to be selected in the draft isn’t smart. Well, it’s not me disagreeing with you as it the league and union who clearly created a financial benefit if a QB is under his first contract. Not only is a benefit provided for but also a penalty for resigning a player who is underperforming or unable to win with less. Either way benefit or penalty the current player contract leaves no doubt as to what is smart and what is not.

  92. BucsBandit Says:

Ndog, Silverbuc, Rod Munch, and others on this site just don’t get it…

Jameis Winston is NOT a good NFL QB. He was good at FSU but he’s not good in the NFL. Period.

This isn’t about race, or cherry-picking stats, etc.

It’s simply a FACT that he’s not a good NFL QB. The game is just a bit too fast for him and he also lacks accuracy on certain throws. THAT’S IT.

You can’t continue to blame Winston’s lack of wins on the Defense. There have been many games where the Defense played well, especially in the 1st half, and Jameis could have easily created a lead going into halftime. He RARELY has ever done that it FOUR YEARS of playing. *AND* the Bucs Offense, unlike other teams, is LOADED with weapons. So many average QBs in the NFL, including many backups, would put up HUGE numbers throwing to a team with Evans/Godwin/Jackson/Humphries/Brate/Howard.

Other Bucs fans don’t hate on Winston for the sake of hating on him, we hate on him because WE WANT OUR TEAM TO WIN and realize by now, after 4 seasons, that Jameis Winston is NOT the answer.

He’s a SPOILER ALERT… he’s NEVER going to be the answer… for the Bucs or ANY team. He just doesn’t have what it takes to excel at the NFL level.

    It’s time to move on.

  93. James Walker Says:

Funny, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostetler, and Jim Plunkett all won Super Bowls. Is Jameis not as good if not better than all of these players?

  94. D1QB Says:

    – “Dirks offense is out dated”
    — #1 yds, TD’ s #4, 64.9% completion rate with 6th ranked attempts.
Only Idiots and retards think in those terms. Remember kids to Check your
offensive schemes expiration date before the start of each game..

    — Dirks system isnt vintage 1980 Air Coryell and it’s not 4 vert.
But a Google search says so , so it’s true. If only someone
admitted to not knowing everything possible about the NFL
and decided to acknowledge that someone may know
something as well….Fk it! scurry to your key boards and quote
    Google.

    – “Dirks 4 vert system requires QB to hold onto the ball too long”
    – Fitz avg 2.6 sec to throw is the same as Brady, .1 longer than Brees,
and faster than Rodgers, Ryan, Mahomes and Goff.
So thats just horse spit or stupidity..

    – “Great system between the 20’s but doesn’t work in the red zone”
–RZ scoring per game 9th, efficiency 12th, % scoring TD 14th.

    – “There’s a connection between throwing the ball down field and completion avg”

The team has a 64.9% completion % ,avg yds attempted 8.6
The Chiefs, Rams, Chargers, Saints, Texans have higher completion %
and avg yds attempted is 8.8-8.3 . So it’s not completion avg is suffering by
    throwing downfield.
And here’s the nut blasting facts that are sooo opposite of what smart
opinions state. The lowest completion % league wise is also shortest
    yds attempted.

    – “Red zone scoring is low”

    * Bucs rank 12th in scoring efficiency.
9th Red zone scores per game,
7th in red zone scoring attempts per game,
    14th in RZ scoring %,
    (16th is Patriots, 20th Rams, 26th Houston, 31st Dallas, 23rd Tenn, 29th J
    ( jax)

Not surprising that perceptions are not accurate .

    – “Fire Dirk, put in a modern offense”

,* “modern” is fan speak . Makes someone seem like they know
something but it’s just a term the media uses to explain things
To their audience in a simple way.

    – “Modern offense =short passing and a few deep balls.

    * Rams and KC are widely held up as an example of the modern offense.
Both teams are top of league in throwning the ball downfield . Yards per
attempt , completion yds, etc….. So it’s not modern if it’s short passes..
But the original idea of what is modern offense vs Dirk’ s 80’s out dated one
Is hilariously and utterly devoid of any real insight….

  96. JRbulls Says:

Joe I know you guys aren’t about research and in depth analysis but it would be nice to have a post now and again actually digging into the numbers and answering the question as to why the stats are a certain way. I understand the driving numbers part of the website, but ask the question and at least try to answer them with facts. After that let the dogs try to argue it out in the comments. Just seems like lately your posts are so incomplete. That’s the problem with this kind of media when compared to more traditional journalism.

  97. Dirty Bucs Says:

That might have something to do with the fact that many other quarterbacks have the running back heavily involved in the passing game out of the backfield, and we do not. With that said, I’m not a huge Winston fan for other reasons.
