Report: Late-November Trouble Between Dirk Koetter & DeSean Jackson

December 27th, 2018

One could put DeSean Jackson in the argument for worst big-money free agent signing in the Jason Licht era.

Oh, sure, he’s not a complete bust on the field like Michael “Ghost” Johnson, Anthony Collins, Chris “Swaggy” Baker or J.R. Sweezy. But has there been a more divisive player than Jackson?

Trade requests, not feeling like contributing, apparent pouting after a win and not always being a team-first guy, the list goes on for Jackson.

(Hey DeSean, it seems you missed all the other wide receivers supporting Mike Evans at his recent Brandon charity event. And what happened between you and Jameis in the locker room two months ago?)

Yesterday, Josina Anderson did an entire ESPN NFL Live segment on Jackson and his desire to leave Tampa as soon as possible. And it didn’t even include Jackson selling house.

Anderson revealed that Jackson is lacking chemistry — with his head coach.

“I’m told issues started to fester a little bit more, specifically Wednesday, November 28, when there was an exchange with head coach Dirk Koetter over him not practicing with a hand injury,” Anderson said. “After that game, he did not play for three games after that.”

Josina Anderson went on to say Jackson “would like to move on from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it would be beneficial for him to be in a new environment and to get a fresh start.” She added that she’s hearing of “the morale and the confidence being down in what they’re doing on offense and I think that that’s culminating in how he feels.”

Joe is willing to bet a few hundred bucks Anderson’s information is coming from Jackson or his agent. What a freakin’ mess this Bucs team is.

I’m not a huge D-Jax fan, but the offense has definitely cooled off the second half of the season. It seemed like Jackson was about to have a big year then it just fizzled out. Him not returning kicks is messed up too. He’ll go to New England and ball out probably. I’m

  2. Bucsfanman Says:

Ah yes! When you’re losing, ALL the wheels come off.
Koetter never found a way beyond the ‘go’ route to utilize DJax. Apparently he missed that day in coaching school, you know, “get the ball in your playmaker’s hands in space” day!

  3. Hodad Says:

Yet Licht would not trade him, or just release his ass. Yes the Bucs are a mess. A total house cleaning is in order. The chicken, or the egg? When Dominick was fired the Glazer’s hired Lovie, then the meathead yes man. When Lovie was fired the meathead stayed, and three years on his own he’s failed in the draft, F.A.’s, and picking his next coach Koetter. This time I hope the Glazer’s hire a good G.M. first, and lean on him to pick the next H.C.. Glazer bro’s you’re bad at it.

  4. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs want get anything for him now

They had the chance to trade him for a 4th at least

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Not at all worth the money…..

  6. SOEbuc Says:

    OMG!!!…This is…A total shock that I don’t give two sh!ts about.

  7. Howard Cosell Says:

Desean Jackson is a locker room and an attitude problem?
NO! Who would have guessed that would happen?

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

I trust her reporting as much as Ian Rappaort.

  9. DBS Says:

What do you know. another talanted player that performed other places came here and failed. He will go to another team and perform again just like the rest.

  10. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Hindsight is 20/20.

I was excited as hell to get DJax here to TB. But man it definitely did not seem to help us one bit… and now it sounds like it has been a hell of a lot worse behind the scenes than we even realized.

She is a pretty relentless worker and she does her homework. I feel this is probably on the money.

  12. BucsFan95 Says:

What’s the story about Jameis Winston and Desean Jackson in the locker room?
Joe doesn’t have enough, per Joe’s standards, to type a story on it. Not yet anyway.–Joe

  13. D-Rome Says:

I don’t think DeSean Jackson was one of the worst FA’s signings by Jason Licht. More often than not Jay-Miss failed to connect with him.

  14. Dewey Selmon Says:

Demon, If she was such a great reporter she would of know about this weeks ago when it happened.

  15. Waterboy Says:

I don’t think Jackson was high on Licht’s list but Winston lobbied to get him in Tampa. Forward the clock 2 years and Jackson is making a push for Winston to be replaced. Funny how things change.

Jackson had a diva me first reputation coming into Tampa so that’s nothing new. I have 2 different friends who are Redskins and Eagles fans and I remember when Chip Kelly first shipped Jackson out of Philly I was joking with my one friend about how Chip was about to set that team back a few years trying to spark a reaction out of him. His comment to me was “You haven’t seen any of the other players complaining have you?”. He was actually right. The only complaint that I saw coming from the players in Philly when they cut ties with Jackson was from McCoy and that was because Chip got rid of him also.

The other friend who is a Redskins fan told me when Tampa picked up Jackson “you can have him, all he wants to do is catch deep balls and complain about not getting the ball enough”.

  16. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ Fair comments, D-Rome, but don’t you think the Jameis-DJax connection might have actually had a chance to get better if DJax did not act like a petulant spoiled brat 24/7 behind the scenes?

For as much heat as Jameis takes, he has shown to be very willing to put everything into making things better that he possibly can. Can we say the same about DJax?

  17. 813bucboi Says:

and folks said dirk never lost the team….lol….he lost the team and his job!!!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  18. JGhoti86 Says:

Add that to the beans spilled by one Rock Stroud on pregame radio before the Cowboys game of Jackson falling asleep in meetings, being constantly late to meetings and a physical altercation with a coach on staff last year.

    @ Joe,

Have you heard about this physical altercation w/ a Bucs coach last year? When I heard it from Stroud Sunday morning, it was the first I’ve heard of such an encounter. Funny how it comes a year later, but he’s still on the team, that meshes with your hypothesis of the source of this information…

  19. Cgmaster27 Says:

Shocker , mesean being a diva. Licht is a clown for not trading this clown.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

if he would just support the glazers long-term goals of basement titles and lose quilty like cancer93, lvd and dotson, the board members of the losing culture. he would have no beef with anyone. DJAX is not the problem. The lack of leadership and balls from top to bottom of this minor league franchise is the problem.

i want one person to attempt to convince that glazers are trying to win and will get this next hire right. There is ZERO evidence to suggest they are trying or will get this next hire right so good luck with that.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

this franchise has never been able to deal with talented Winners with drive. bucfan wants their players to participate in local cults (churches), lose quietly and never show any emotion or frustration.

  22. OneBucsFan1995 Says:

What’s the story with Jackson and Winston in the locker room?

  23. Rashad Says:

    Bye

  24. 813bucboi Says:

he wasnt connecting with winston but dirk failed to…..wait for it……ADJUST!!!!…lol….

the entire team went flat after the redskins lost…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  25. zzbuc Says:

If I have to vote who do I like more…the pick is obvious, Koetter….. but at the end of the day who cares, Koetter most probably will not be here anymore and DJ for sure will not be next year

  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I have really been on the fence more than a lot of you, when it comes to Jason Licht.

But you guys just might be right. If DJax had become THIS MUCH of a chemistry problem for the entire team, than Licht absolutely should have done anything he could to unload him at the trade deadline.

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Bad idea to bring big money cry babies onto a continuous losing team. That’ll F up your locker room. Him running off the field before even talking to anyone? Definition of a punk-b!tch.

players that joyfully accept losing like cancer93 and dotson are the true definitions of punk-beotches….

cancer93 is and has been the main locker room cancer for nearly a decade… proof is in the results….

  29. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Desean Jackson is too high quality of a player to be playing for a team with the only quarterback in the world that can’t complete a deep pass to him

Sorry djax, hope u stay, but if u like winning, I’ll understand why u leave

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampa Bay Demon

players DO NOT create chemistry problems. Leadership voids created by apathetic and incompetent owners is what creates chemistry issues. The inmates are truly running the asylum and have been for decades at one buc circus tent.

  31. WalkdaPlank Says:

I think it is a combination of DJax being a cry baby and the coaches not utilizing him better.

I like Hump but he is not a returner, DJax is the best returner we have and we aren’t using him. Also Jameis Winston is terrible at throwing accurate deep balls and one of Jackson’s strengths is creating separation on a go route. However I haven’t seen Jackson fight for a single one of Winston’s passes this year if he doesn’t have that separation. If it’s him 1-on-1 he will simply give up on the ball and that’s a lousy player to me.

He’s got talent but we will never see it here in Tampa. I’d take Hump and Godwin over DJax.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

    1995

thats what i want to know…..

if this happened last year, that means winston snapped on djax and chris baker….

at least someone is trying to right the ship….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  33. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

It’s the Shoulder Poop Uniforms he doesn’t like.

  34. tmaxcon Says:

all these great players show up and regress. Out of the last 24 to 30 free agent signings, only JPP has produced as expected. That is not on the players that is on the piss poor structure and lack of leadership at one buc circus tent.

there is truly no hope because the Glazers don’t care and are incapable of running a pro sports team that does not come complete with ticket and tv revenue sharing. glazers don’t have to do anything league carries there sorry arses with revenue sharing and the low standard special needs fans like bonzi and pickgrin think everything is Rosie all the time. glazers have no incentive to do well given the pathetic low standard fan base that thinks 500 football with no chance in postseason is glory years couple that with the fact the league carries the team with revenue sharing.

  35. Cgmaster27 Says:

Bucs fan, after week one fitz did NOT complete 1 pass to mesean for over 20 yards. The last long ball he caught … from Jameis in the bears game. At least look stuff up. Keeps ya from looking uninformed. Mesean also dropped a 40 yard td right in his bread basket from jameis.

  36. Cgmaster27 Says:

    *week2 for fitz

  37. Eric Says:

a legend in his own mind. Sayonara.

Making him captain was a bad move.

  38. LakeLand Says:

Let’s wait it out and see what happens

  39. Season Is Over Says:

Dirk “We were done by Halloween” Koetter made him team captain just weeks ago. What gives? Just goes to shows the total sham the Bucs and this website have been selling. The Bucs thought they would hold onto him out of sheer greed and it blows up in their face. Who saw that coming? I said when he wanted out to let him go because it would get worse. If people on the couch can see this and Licht or Koetter couldn’t? Lmao! Total amateur hour. Remember all the people that wanted to hold on to a player that didn’t want to be here to get some value. How did that work out?

  40. Cobraboy Says:

If Winston had a decent deep ball, we’d never be hearing any of this.

  41. Mikey Says:

So Desean is who we thought. ShOcKiNG!

  42. Jameis Almighty! Says:

I’ll tell you what happened between MeJax and Jameis. And these are the facts. MeJax started it and Jameis didn’t back down. That’s all I’m going to say about it until Joe prints it or it appears somewhere else. Koetter then tried to win back over Winston by taking Jameis’ side on the issue.

  43. D-Rome Says:

DJAX is not the problem. The lack of leadership and balls from top to bottom of this minor league franchise is the problem.

What this team needs is a strong leader like Tony Dungy…

  44. Jameis Almighty! Says:

All the fans though I was crazy saying trade MeJax. Shows you the average intelligence of a joebucsfan poster. There are a few good ones out there, even a few who don’t like Winston. But for the most part joebucfan commenters are a bunch of jameis bashing, overreacting nincumpoops.

  45. The Real Malloy Says:

    Eric,

He was never a captain. Evans and Marpet.

  46. tmaxcon Says:

you dungy nuthuggers make up more crap to try and raise the failure up…. support winners, not failures. you know how laughable you are calling 500 football with a 2-6 (no chance) in post season glory years. Do you think real franchises would boast and chest bump 20 years later over just being average to below average with NO CHANCE in post season? you fools simply are forgetting dungy the clown coached a really bad team with a great defense that was handed to him. dungy and 55 combined have an iq less than 10 they are not the answer stop living in the past and celebrating failure it is laughable.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    It’s really simple:

DJax knows the Buccaneers want to get rid of him, and he would rather be cut than traded so he can pick where he goes. By faking injuries, he gets rid of trade interest.

DJax is tanking…but we should be used to that. He;s only given 100% in 3 of 26 games since coming to Tampa.

  48. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    @The Real Malloy

He was a captain for one game, as the elective by Dirk.

  49. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
    “DJAX is not the problem.”

DJAX is a big part of the problem, but not the ONLY problem.

  50. BucEmUp Says:

wht was sweet a bust? He looks just fine to me right??? That should go.on coaching not the glaziers. Like I’ve been saying all along how many players are “busts” because of coaching.

Jason Licht needs to stay. I also said all along djax would have been the equivenalnt signing a Kenny still for way less money that s on Jason Licht but it’s what the fans wanted so….

  51. Bucsfanman Says:

Bonzai- Interesting! I never thought of that.

  52. go for the face30 Says:

Love Tmax. GIVE EM HELL man lol

  53. tmaxcon Says:

    D-Rome

Tom Flores Playoff Record 2 Titles
    8 3 .727

Dungy the Clown Playoff Record 1* Title (with an astericsk) coached against a special needs counterpart in lovie smith. no one can choke away a great regular season like dungy the clown.

    9 10 .474

Mr. Flores also did not waste has many hall of fame players on both sides of the ball sapp in Tampa and the triplets in indie.

the legend of dungy surpassed his actual accomplishments long ago.

  54. Doctor Stroud Says:

At the start of the season, players like DJax want to get their stats up so that they can re-negotiate at the end of the season. Now that the playoffs are out of reach, those same players want to avoid injuries when they are inevitably cut in what will be a Bucs fire sale. These are all “business decisions” and have little to do with what is best for the team. I agree with others who have asked: should we be surprised?

  55. joestang Says:

Djax is talented and wants the ball. We cant get him the ball because we cant hit him downfield. Another talented player leaving the bucs.

  56. AlteredEgo Says:

He came here because of Jameis
    and left because of
    Jamyth

  57. SteelStudBuc Says:

Should have just kept Fitz in at QB. When Jameis is QB this team has no swagger.

  58. Max Says:

Josina Anderson? (hoodrat hoodrat hoochie mama!) Yeah she’s never around here in Tampa so this is definitely from Jackson’s camp, what a whiny crybaby.

  59. BrianBucs Says:

So Jackson’s guaranteed money is up, he doesn’t get along with the coach and the starting QB can’t hit him.
Yep, sounds like he’s happy here

  60. BrianBucs Says:

Interesting though that Fitz can consistently hit Jackson deep but Winston can’t

  61. D-Rome Says:

LOL tmaxcon, I was just messing with you…

  62. Jameis Almighty! Says:

MeJax is a washed up bum who would make a great character on a tv show. He’s too fragile for football, he should try working in the carnival circuit as a side show. “Step right up ladies, kids, and men! See the biggest jerk in the NFL! He busts up locker rooms, won’t return punts, and is all about himself! 1 ticket to see MeJax and shout whatever you would like to him within reason!”

  63. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Brian Bucs… he can hit him. He hit him for the catch that led to the game winner against Cleveland. MeJax is a jackass and is uncoachable. Addition by subtraction getting his ass out of town.

  64. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Interesting that Fitz is a career loser and was terrible in the redzone. Fitz and MeJax should get married seeing that gay marriage is legal and they are so fond of each other.

  65. MeJax Says:

But..but Joe! Some people were saying a few weeks ago Desean is a team player and would never run to the media! 🙄🙄

  66. tmaxcon Says:

    D-Rome Says

I thought you were but i have to kerp the record straight

  67. Nick2 Says:

Koetter was D Jax most staunch supporter but it doesnt surpise me that D Jax has thrown even him under the bus. What a shocker….

  68. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ That’s the part that gets me, Nick2. — What kind of a dude would you have to be?

    — and yet Jameis, asked about DJax a little while ago on TBT… takes the high road of course

  69. cmurda Says:

Add this to the rest of the Licht screw-ups. Could have traded him before the trade dealine for at worst a 5th rounder. Now, we will get nothing. Licht had his shot but he should be relieved of his duties with Koetter

  70. buccfan305 Says:

F#@k Me Sean Jackson!!!! Has never been a factor since he arrived!!! Cry baby @$$ Nicca!!!
