Mike Evans Busts 1,000 Yards, Hits Another Record
November 25th, 2018Mike Evans got a new line in the NFL record books today and Joe caught up with him after the game to talk about it.
With six catches against the 49ers, Evans added 116 yards to his season total and now has 1,073 yards for the season. That’s five consecutive years with 1,000+ yards receiving to start his career. That ties Bengals receiver A.J. Green, who also hit that milestone. Only retired great Randy Moss has more, six years in a row to start his Vikings career.
When Joe found Evans in the locker room, he was kind of fuzzy on the details of the record and started debating with Joe on Moss. Thankfully, Bucs receivers coach Skyler Fulton jumped in and showed Evans the related stats on his phone.
“It’s a cool accomplishment. People keep telling me about it, but I mean, it’s really just me doing what I’m supposed to do. I’m healthy. I get a lot of targets,” Evans said. “This is what’s expected of me, so on that level it’s not that special at all.”
Evans added that big games in the postseason would be more satisfying, as would big numbers in key late-season games.
It was typical humble Evans, who bolted the locker room on the early side and headed to a V.I.P. room in the stadium where his wife and family were waiting for him.
Joe is so darn grateful Evans is on the team. Devoted, durable, hungry and still young, Evans is a top-5 NFL receiver, in addition to being the Bucs’ all-time leading receiver.

Imagine if 13 had a top shelf running game and franchise QB?
His numbers would be mental

Imagine if he had a consistent QB throwing to him. And thank the heavens he’s so tall and has a decent vertical or else most of those passes would be clear over his head.

Mike Evans is the best player on our offense and JPP the best on defense…..

Barring injury there’s no reason he can’t tie Moss by doing it a sixth time in 2019. It’s conceivable he could even do it seven times. Would you bet against him?!

He is going down as one of the great Buccaneers. Selmon, Sapp, Brooks, Ronde, etc. Hope we can play some meaningful January games with him at some point.

Mike Evans is Vincent Jackson Jr.

Vincente, yea, because so many other receivers are doing it with their more “consistent” QB’s. He’s one of 3 all time. I guess Jameis is doing something right, uh. Dummy. Think it thru before you type your drivel.

I’ll never give Winston credit for Evans accomplishments. Soon all we will hear about is how great Mike Evans is and forget all about number 3. Just like everyone has forgotten about the QB that was around just before Winston arrived.
November 25th, 2018 at 11:46 pm
Vincente, nobody has forgotten about the horrible Josh McCown or Mike Glennon days before Jameis arrived except for maybe you. Also, you don’t personally have to give credit to Jameis for Evans accomplishments, but the record books surely will.
