You can go after Jalen Ramsey in the offseason. This draft is going to be D-line heavy. Start rebuilding the defense. And then grab Darrell Henderson in the 2nd round.
The Bucs need to draft a QB somewhere in the near future
They are carrying Ryan Griffin as their 3rd QB
But they don’t trust him to take a snap
Fitz is a 36 year old erratic QB that’s need to go
I wouldn’t place 100% trust in Jameis Winston
On or off the field
I wouldn’t draft a QB early, but I would draft some
This draft doesn’t fit the Bucs needs
It’s D-Line heavy
They just spent the 12th overall pick on a D-Lineman
They just spent two 2nd round picks on Cornerbacks
They just spent a 2nd round pick on a RB
To spend early picks on those positions is insane
They will be admitting their inability to develop the picks
Or admitting their mistake of drafting them in the first place
I think OT,OG,QB
Those 3 are the needs I would filled in this order
I understand that Jameis is their starting QB
But who will be the Bucs 2nd and 3rd QB?
Jameis has been injured and suspended for the past two seasons
It’s time for the Bucs to get a young QB in here to be develop
Ryan Griffin isn’t the answer, he’s 29 and has never taken an NFL snap
They need to get a legitimate QB coach in Tampa
And draft a QB, somewhere in this draft
Keep Jameis Winston
But add a young QB (Rookie) to be develop
I didn’t say they should reach for one with their 1st round pick
But they need to add one
The Jacksonville Jaguars had their pick between Patrick Mahomes and DeShaun Watson. But they drafted an injured prone RB instead. If a good young QB prospect fall to the Bucs. They should pounce on it, snatch him up. I don’t care what round it’s in, 1st, 2nd don’t matter. They need a young QB in here to be develop.
Who know that Jameis Winston will sign an extension to stay in Tampa
The franchise tag on QB was at $23 Million in 2018
It will be higher in 2019
Players in the first 15 should always be Best Player Available. This year it looks to be the defensive line, if I was betting. Second round, then start looking for need.
Agree with PIckgrin & 813. You attack the positional talent of this draft which is in the trenches.
D-line
O-line
RB
S
CB
LB
IMO ideally we let Grimes/McCoy/Djax/and a few others walk.
Sign the best cover CB you can find. Sign another CB for depth who can play as a #2 worst case. And maybe even sign a S if possible.
2 D-line and 2 O-line in the draft. Ideally a disruptive 3 tech type DT to compliment Vea and a DE that can learn under JPP/Nassib. Then an OT to replace Dot or Smith and an OG to replace Benecoch.
As long as licht is not making the pick I am good with whoever, this dummy licht picks an average DT when he had a chance at a generational DB and missed on it, the 2019 draft is loaded with DL talent how could a competent GM not have advanced scouting knowledge on this and compare Vea to the ppl coming out this year, licht has ruined this franchise and built it into a perennial 6-10 franchise well-done
Give me that man Greedy Williams in a heartbeat. Defense wins championships and we arguably have the worst one in the league, give us playmakers like Williams and we can start righting the ship.
Dline, need more pass rushers. Can sign corners that have proven they can play. Our defense didn’t look this bad with Gorrer, Toast Johnson, and Eric Wright.
We need a pass rush or it won’t matter who is in the back end.
Obviously it depends on value but you need top talent at corner and safety – but if there was no value and a top OT was there you have to replace Dotson at some point. Finally if Kwon isn’t coming back then you need a LB – but it’s easier to find LB’s later in general – but if you had an elite talent that’s another way to go.
Also I can’t believe this but I’m higher on Barber than most – I never thought he was anything but a basic north/south runner – and I still think that – but that’s more than good enough in this offense. The Bucs have massive needs elsewhere and can’t be wasting picks on yet another RB. Plus we still have no idea what Jones is.
LakeLand Says:
November 27th, 2018 at 11:40 am
They just drafted 2 CB, Safety, LB, DT
2017 they drafted Safety, LB,DT
2016 they drafted 2 CB, LB, DE
How many defensive players they have to draft?
that points to the lack of player development…..that falls on the coaches shoulders….
LakeLand – You can’t expect to hit on anything outside of your 1st and hopefully 2nd rounders, anything else is a bonus.
So going back…
We have 4th rounder Ryan Smith – absolutely terrible player, but he’s a 4th round pick, you can’t think you have a future starter with a 4th rounder. Smith is a good special teams player, and if you get a good special teams player, who should never be on the field as a corner, then you’re getting something of value.
1st rounder VH3 – Had a nice rookie year (by rookie standards), then I have no idea what happened, he played poorly at the beginning of last season, then got hurt, then had a nice camp this year and seemed OK in the preseason, and got hurt. This one is perhaps a bad pick, but if he could stay healthy, perhaps he does turn out to be at worst a nickel corner. But you don’t want a nickel from a top 11 pick.
2nd round Evans – Has been probably the best player in the secondary this year. Seems like he’s a future starter – and if so – you got a good pick here.
Then for the rookies this year it’s really hard to judge them – they’re rookies. But with that said M.J. Stewart looks like a slow Ryan Smith so far, which is obviously a very bad thing – but not giving up on him, he clearly shouldn’t be playing yet, and hopefully once he has the mental side down he plays faster. For Davis, considering how little support he has had around him, he’s played OK – and I’d say he’s played well for a rookie in his position. I think Davis has a good chance at remaining a starter.
So you got 2 future starters out of 5 picks, possibly a future starter in VH3 if he could stay healthy and continued to improve (yes a lot of if’s). For Ryan Smith, again, he was a 4th rounder, that is lottery pick territory and you can’t blame anyone for him not being any good. For Stewart, he’s a 2nd rounder, who was way overdrafted from every mock I saw going into the draft, and he was considered slow, so if he turns out to not be any good is that on the coaching or on the GM for reaching for a guy when seemingly there was no reason to do so?
As you well know I’m no defender of this coaching staff but it’s way too easy for people to jump on the “we have to blame someone” bandwagon. I think you do need to hit on your 1st’s and hopefully at least half your 2nd’s – everything else is purely a lottery. So 40% hit rate, overall, I don’t think is terrible – it’s not good – but it’s not terrible, and if VH3, who we have for one more year, returns strong and can start or even be a solid nickel, then I think you get to an acceptable level of return on your picks.
That’s why I disagree with CB. We have enough young corners that a good coaching staff could work with. IMO a better plan would be to sign a veteran CB to mesh with the young players and draft another Corner after round 1 to add.
I would try to use my top pick in the trenches or in another area.
One thing being missed here is our D-line has constantly been an old patch-work unit for the most part. The worst thing for young CBs is coming into a team with a sh1t pass rush which has been the case most the time.
Soft pass rush + soft zone D = good luck getting confidence and having success in the NFL
D-line and LB is hard to f*ck up I’d think in terms of coaching vs CB. If you get elite freak athletes all on that front 7 it is hard to not have a good defense even with bad coaching.
The anti-Winston lynch mob now trying to rig the poll? LOL! Two hours ago there was more votes for RB than QB, now I check again and the number saying draft a QB has doubled while the number of RB’s hasn’t moved? Wow, what a bunch of miserable d-bags.
LakeLand – Well just talking about DB’s, since that’s by far the weakness of this team, they haven’t been complete wastes. If you’re talking all the defensive picks, who else is there?
Spence – started off well, then got worse, was always considered a high risk pick, not sure coaching is the issue there.
Bond – 6th rounder who has started, to me, that’s a hit
Beckwith – he’s played well, when healthy, seems like a hit
Tu’ikolovatu – he’s a 7th rounder, you can not expect anything from a 7th, I don’t call it a hit or miss
Those are the other defensive players outside of this year, and again, I don’t think you can judge rookies on their rookie year, but if you did Vita at least showed a pulse finally, we shall see what he becomes, we covered the corners.
Oh and I forgot Whitehead – so far he seems like he could be an OK player, maybe not a starter but should be depth. Again, a 4th rounder, you can’t expect those guys to work out, but he seems like a good pick so far.
Cichy – played until he was injured, again a late round pick, you can’t expect anything out of these, neither a hit or miss.
I mean when you go player by player there’s not a lot of “bad’ picks here – no real home runs either, at least so far, but there’s nothing where I look at the guys and say they greatly underperformed. If anything going player by player it seems the Bucs have serious issues staying healthy. Spence is probably the guy who you most look at as a miss, he has declined each year, which is a shame since he was really projected to become a big deal early on.

Our O-Line is bereft of a stud. Just ask Fitz. The most help he got from the O-Line were the helping hands lifting his limp body from the turf.
Just ask Barber – the man averages 1 defender run over per yard.
Bring in a stud O-lineman. Not a D-3 prospect, not a “Nasty” veteran, but a bona fide blue chip O-Lineman.

DLine is a strength of this draft. Keep bolstering the trenches!
Bucs need two DL and two OL players out of the 2019 draft.

It was a tough call between DL and CB,,,, but I went CB.

We need an Olineman high in this year’s draft and probably another S.

But instead they drafted a injured prone RB

seriously though they need to go DEEP defense. so many needs they need 12 picks
DB 1st
DE 2nd
LB 3rd
Safety/DB 4th
another DE
replacement for happy man mcclown
another DE
and that doesn’t even touch the O where we need OL, RB and QB not necessarily in that order

They have drafted 12 defensive players in the 3 years since
But the defense is a lot worse
