Lost In The Loss

November 15th, 2018

The Bucs’ mind-numbing performance against the Redskins on Sunday (500+ yards and three points scored) and the subsequent stupid decision to keep Jameis Winston benched covered up some positives.

First and foremost was second-year WR Chris Godwin catching all seven balls thrown his way for 103 yards.

Godwin, who is called a No. 1 wide receiver by Bucs officials and teammates, now has 37 catches on the season, three more than last year, with four touchdowns to just one in 2017.

He’s also hauling in 68.5 percent of the passes targeted to him, which is also up from last season.

Godwin talked 1-on-1 with Joe’s good friend Rock Riley of 1040 AM yesterday, and you could hear all the same poise, confidence and focus in Godwin’s voice that he displayed as a rookie. He’s all business.

Joe figures Godwin will get more work as the season marches on, especially in the completely meaningless games late this season. He easily could end up with 1,000 yards and 70 catches.

Hopefully, he’s cleaned up the fumbling issues that got him earlier this season. If so, the Bucs appear to be in such incredible shape at wide receiver and tight end.

In the pass-even-more NFL, that’s got to be awfully attractive when it comes to luring a new head coach.

Lost in the loss? By the Koetter-Hating, Winston-Smoching, Alcohol-Referencing, Joes, maybe, but not by knowledgeable fans.

BSPN says it’s the second worst HCing job in the league, just in front of Arizona. I’m thinking we’ll have a mess again unless the Glazers let someone else do the hiring.

Yeah, that catch he made across the middle was crazy! Dude’s got some hands!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Not only does Godwin have hands…..he gets open….some YAC and he takes a beating…..he has been hit so hard on some plays that I think he has been injured but he comes back in.

Godwin is the reason why Djax is a luxury……and you can throw in Hump…..what a consistent receiver….worth every bit of his draft pick….oh, that’s right….UDFA

What happened to Mike Evans? Talk about a lost buc, the guy is a stud usually but where has he been?

Not to mention the drop last week in the end zone that would have put us up and probably with a W

I knew that Godwin was going to be a beast from just watching him play in college at Penn. Thank God for that blessing on this otherwise dysfunctional, sinking ship. Go Bucs !!!

From what I think I’ve seen is Fitz targets Godwin a lot more than Jameis so if they’re gonna put JW back in we’ll see what happens.

  18. wisconsinbucsfan Says:

Don’t need to see more of Jameis , need to see Ryan Griffin to see if we anything at QB sorry Joe Winston has had almost 4 years, worse than Dilfer.
