Endangered Bucs
November 14th, 2018Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching coach Dirk Koetter likes to remind people that roughly 30 percent of a team’s roster changes from the previous season.
Joe has a hunch this Bucs team will have a much greater turnover when underwear football season begins in April.
The Bucs are an embarrassing train wreck and too many guys making really good coins are just going through the motions. No plays, no energy, no juice. All paychecks!
That led Luke Easterling of BucsWire.com to offer up six “big-name” candidates to be wearing new uniforms next year at a new mailing address. One is wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
Rumors were rampant that Jackson was seeking a trade as this year’s deadline approached, but the team held onto him in hopes he could help with a potential playoff push. With that likely out of the question, Jackson could push for his exit yet again this offseason.
It could end up making sense for both parties, considering Jackson’s age (turning 32 next month) and 2019 salary ($11 million, none of which is guaranteed). Wide receiver is where the Bucs are deepest, with young talent across the board. Don’t be surprised if D-Jax is playing elsewhere in 2019.
This really isn’t a surprise to Joe. When the Bucs first signed Jackson in March of 2017, internationally popular JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman predicted on his podcast that Jackson would not see the end of his three-year contract.
Of course, Jackson may not be in such a hurry to leave next year, depending on who will be coaching the Bucs.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:07 am
Funny to bring up Jackson when the D has been doing it for a decade now! Through three coaching changes soon to be four the defense has quit on whoever happens to be the coach.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:09 am
Ryan Griffin continue to eat up a roster spot and not play a single snap? That guy has to have some dirt on the Glazers, Koetter or Licht.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:11 am
First of all Joe, great pic of JW for this story. Really sets the tone. It truly is sad that this team is likely in rebuild mode once again.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:11 am
No way Djax stays!!!! We all know that the new GM and retread coach will be under orders to “fix jw3” !!!! In other words a lesser retread will be hired and another year will be wasted for what we already know!!!!!!!!! Bucs should be looking for Qb to draft in 2019, but will in 2020!!!!! 4 wins in 2019!!!!!!!!!!!
GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buc Realist
Have a sinking feeling your right… way too afraid the Glazers will want to “retool” instead of just blowing it up.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:15 am
Easy, at this point, keeping him makes sense. Fitzpatrick could be hurt at any moment in any game with the way he moves. If he goes down, Winston will start, but they’d still need a backup.

“It truly is sad that this team is likely in rebuild mode once again.”
This team is NOT in rebuild mode again. The Buccaneers would be fools to enter rebuild mode at this point.
The defense has to be built, not rebuilt. The offense is mostly fine.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:19 am
They could be keeping Winston on the bench so he doesn’t get hurt that way they wouldn’t be stuck with his $21 million option.

Middle To Late Round – Tradable Assets
QB Jameis Winston
WR DeSean Jackson
TE Cameron Brate
DT Gerald McCoy
WLB Lavonte David
Let’em Walk?
LT Donovan Smith
MLB Kwon Alexander
Release
William Gholston
Caleb Benenoch
November 14th, 2018 at 8:35 am
LUV- I would be in favor of moving Smith to RT to replace Dotson.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:35 am
Djax is the reason Jameis isn’t playing. The trade talk started when Winston was reinserted as the starting QB. We all know Koetters love affair with Jackson so Djax gets whaT DjX wants… the Djax hiring is the single thing that has ruined this team. For that Licht and Koetter need to go…
November 14th, 2018 at 8:37 am
The season is a waste and that is why it is so dumb to not play Jamies the rest of the way.
If he plays well then see what he can do for a new regime next year.
If he plays poorly then let him walk.
I appreciate that the owners want the football people to do their thing, but this is one of those rare instances where you step in and do what is clearly in the best interest of the organization.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:38 am
“The offense is mostly fine.” – I actually agree with this. Ultimately points matter most, but yards gained IS certainly a good metric as an indicator of how well you move the ball. They just need to clean up some stuff in the red zone with better coaching. A new RG and RT, better consistency from jensen and smith would be grrrreat too…
November 14th, 2018 at 8:39 am
Possible HC/DC
Head Coach: John DeFilippo
Defensive Coordinator: Jim Schwartz
Note: Jim Schwartz contract is up at the end of the season.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:40 am
Getting rid of Jameis would set this team back at east 5 years..mark my words!!!
November 14th, 2018 at 8:40 am
“May the Schwartz be with you!”…..Dark Helmet.

Djax has been a very good player so why trade him?.. move Winston since he is not accurate on the long ball .
November 14th, 2018 at 8:44 am
Ask Jackson if he is willing to play Cornerback. If not, we don’t need him.
November 14th, 2018 at 8:48 am
Sunshine
A guy like DeFilippo could definitely use a guy like Jackson.
But we need the additional draft picks – and I’d rather use cap space to sign Donte Moncrief (25yrs)
November 14th, 2018 at 8:49 am
Putting my money on Koetter being axed and Jameis staying.
Goodbye Dirk.

November 14th, 2018 at 9:02 am
Bonzai- if JW is gone, Smith and Alexander arent resigned, DJax is traded or cut, McCoy is traded or cut, Fitz retires or is replaced, and the coaches and GM are fired, then not sure where you are from but where I’m from that smells like a rebuild.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:05 am
realist
you’ve been wrong for going on 3years now….lol…..
glazers will clean house….licht, dirk, monken…everyone will be gone…..
the new GM & HC will fix winston, develop players and put players in position to be successful……something this incompetent staff could never do…..
#NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!
November 14th, 2018 at 9:07 am
The end of the year is gonna be like Hannibal Lecter on a security guard at One Buc Place. There’s going be blood everywhere and I doubt anyone’s going to survive.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:08 am
LuvMyBucs….actually really like that move of the HC /DC and they know each other or worked together, we need a GM so maybe someone from Philly/KC would be a new GM……I am #1 want Saban as GM/HC…next choice was for a Rich Mckay as Pres/GM and eric bienemy as HC…..but i liked your choices and maybe bring in Rich McKay…definitely need someone to get the personnel right because this team is 2-4 years away from having a competitive winning defense….mack wilson first round pick for bucs
November 14th, 2018 at 9:12 am
“Doesn’t play to the whistle – so nah”
Fair point. I don’t remember this being an issue with him previously though, not that it matters. Do you?
November 14th, 2018 at 9:14 am
Even with an ACL tear, I think the Bucs would be fools to let Kwon walk.
On the other hand Djax can leave and take Jameis, Smith, and half the defense with him
November 14th, 2018 at 9:18 am
You get rid of expensive, tradeable, luxuries first……Djax is all of those….
We have Godwin and Watson to step in……we need the money more than we need Djax.
November 14th, 2018 at 9:19 am
We have got to stop being afraid of losing players. We have seen this guy play for 4 years now, what do you think we’re going to uncover that we haven’t seen already? We have a 35+ back-up playing just as “good” (used extremely loosely!) right now. Is he the answer? If you say ‘no’ it applies equally. ANYONE can be replaced. There are rookies and 2nd year players ballin’ right now. So….
November 14th, 2018 at 9:20 am
Booda…I concur.

We need to find some football players.

Not accurate on the long ball? That’s BS he hit DJAX in stride on a 60 yarder in probably his worst game of the year! ON top of that “BOMBS” are not a staple of a teams offense so ENOUGH about “long bombs”
November 14th, 2018 at 10:53 am
Jimmy T. ok … then Winston is not an accurate qb leading receivers, only throwing to a spot.. ..with all the bucs weapons move on from Winston.

November 14th, 2018 at 11:06 am
Only in Tampa where you have the #1 rated offense in the league and the worst defense in the league that we all we are talking about is getting rid of our Franchise QB and a pro bowl receiver. SMH!! Unbelievable!! Boy Dirk sure is a smart guy, He knows he has to put the blame on everyone but himself ( Smith, Winston, OC, etc…) and who takes the bait?? Tampa fans and media.. And you wonder why TAMPA hasn’t made the playoffs in forever and went thru a handful of coaches in the last 10 years.. Good Job Tampa keep it up. The people who love it are the Saints, Panthers , and Dirty Birds.. Laughing all the way to the playoffs…
November 14th, 2018 at 11:08 am
Correction: “I see your Swartz is as big as mine!”
“I hate when I get my Swartz twisted.”
November 14th, 2018 at 11:17 am
VFL98- The “#1 offense” statement is a common refrain. While I don’t necessarily agree with ridding players in the system, that moniker is a complete misnomer. We’re the #1 offense in YARDS, not scoring. You can’t win games if you don’t score. Being first in yardage is absolutely useless.
Besides, when you WATCH this team, do you feel like you’re watching an offensive powerhouse? Have you ever seen a team so allergic to running the football?!
There are many things wrong with this team, INCLUDING an offense stacked with talent that can’t score.
November 14th, 2018 at 11:19 am
BringBucsBack- LOL! Sounds painful!
November 14th, 2018 at 11:19 am
“Hit Djax in stride on a 60 yarder”
Jackson was WIDE OPEN. It’s literally Winston’s job to make that throw. If he doesn’t make that throw he doesn’t deserve to be an NFL QB.
You are applauding a fish for swimming

Big Hog Hayes: Getting rid of Jameis will set the Bucs back 5 years. Mark my words…More like 5 light years dude.
November 14th, 2018 at 1:20 pm
All this whining about Ryan Griffin to get time reminds me of the late 90’s when Duemig was non-stop crying for Scott Milanovich to get on the field. Guys, they are clipboard holders for a reason. Enough.
November 14th, 2018 at 1:49 pm
@VFL
“Only in Tampa where you have the #1 rated offense in the league”
500 yds and 3 pts or 1000yds and 6pts DOES NOT MAKE YOU A #1 OFFENSE

I agree
November 14th, 2018 at 3:12 pm
Now we’re going to argue semantics?
Rebuild? Reload? Fresh blood?
What person here believes this team just needs a little fix…a couple of players here and there.
What person here believes this team is FUBAR and needs not just a rebuild? Reload? We need a total house cleaning.
I’m very optimistic and so I do not think “rebuild” is such a tragic word. I think you can get to the playoffs while you rebuild. But no Conference Titles or SB appearances.
Does anybody here really believe there is ANY way the Bucs reach the SB next year? Bwaaahaaaahaaaahaaa
November 14th, 2018 at 4:10 pm
Should’ve traded him and Fitzpatrick at the deadline for whatever they could get.. Even if it’s a bag of practice footballs.
November 14th, 2018 at 6:37 pm
i like the idea of moving donovan smith to right tackle – no need for him to be all chummed up next to ali marpet like 2 peas in a pod -that’s some fruity pebbles type sheet

You people are silly!!You missed the whole point. Were not the #1 offense or the last in defense, it was and EXAGGERATION. Wow! That being said, my other points were dead on. Just might be over your heads. Sorry, I can’t help you there.
November 14th, 2018 at 10:50 pm
This year draft is strong in defense. It’s time to build a real defense now . I don’t want to here nothing about offence we need defense. I don’t want to here about quarterback we need defense defense defense and more defense……… For get about who the quarterback is for 2019 season. Focus on our defense. We need to keep Jamies and see what he will be under a new coach. But the main focus should be defense. It doesn’t matter how good offence will be if you can’t stop no body you will still lose. Defense Defense Defense and running back. But more defense………
November 15th, 2018 at 5:53 am
Yep too smart for us VFL! Except, we are #1 in passing yards. Look it up.
I don’t know about “dead on”. There are many fans right here that see through the BS. You’re not the pioneering sage you fancy yourself.
