Mark Dominik Talks Jameis’ Tampa Future

November 1st, 2018

“Mark, 10 picks in 13 quarters with the best damn receiving corps in the NFL. And that’s O.J. Howard and Cam Brate at tight end, not Tim Wright.”

Former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik is a man who knows Team Glazer extremely well.

Among outsiders, he might have the best feel for what’s going on surrounding the Tampa Bay quarterback crisis.

And yes, it’s a crisis. Your 2015 No. 1 overall pick has a big fat “B” on his forehead and you’re relying on a QB who has a 50-72-1 career record.

Dominik was on WDAE-AM 620 today and made it clear that Jameis Winston’s Bucs future lies on the arm of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“I think if Fitzpatrick plays well, then you have seen the end of Jameis playing there,” Dominik said.

As for the roughly $21 million guaranteed to Jameis next year (if he has an injury this season that leaves him unhealthy in early March of 2019) Dominik said that should not be a factor now at One Buc Palace.

“You can’t be afraid of that when you’re talking about your quarterback because you’ve got to be sure you’re making the right long-term decision,” Dominik said.

The ex-GM said the Bucs would be wise to give Fitzpatrick four starts in order to avoid the “see-saw” of a quarterback carousel. If you fall out of contention or Fitzpatrick isn’t very good, then turn back to Jameis after four games, Dominik said.

“Compete” and “don’t sulk,” Dominik advised Jameis. “”The team needs to see that you can handle being down, because that’s a big part of leadership.”

There’s certainly a market for Jameis around the NFL, Dominik said.

Joe found that last nugget very interesting, given Dominik’s many connections with personnel people.

That value, Joe believes, could be a factor in how the Bucs proceed with Jameis. If the Bucs are confident they could get, say, a second-round pick for Jameis after the season, they might have a different view of using him in potentially meaningless December.

If you want to hear Dominik tomorrow, he’ll be co-hosting on SiriusXM NFL Radio at 11 a.m.

I am NOT a fan of DOM

    BUT

He had the gall to cut a struggling 1st round QB in his 4th year regardless of fan opinion on his previous success.

  2. Rob Says:

A number two draft pick in 2019. Good gosh that would be quite a steal for the Bucs. No way the Bucs brass puts him back in and loses 20.9 million. Does anyone think Jay Miss would not suffer some type of injury to cash in on that bone us? Treat him like he is made of glass until March and cut or trade him to the highest bidder as soon as possible. Move on. Jay Miss era over. Period. Not a franchise qb, never will be. Go Bucs!

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

    New England
    giants
    denver
    Miami
    Jacksonville
    saints
    wash
    chargers
    pitt
    baltimore

these teams wil gladly give a second

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

I wonder IF..The Glazers have the balls to just say..F It and pull the plug on everybody next season and..CLEAN HOUSE. Jameis, Dirk, Licht..all of them BAM..Gone!! I think we will know which way they are leaning if Jameis does not play for us again this season. I sau.. Start over. Keep our Wide receivers of course. But clean house. It cannot get any worse. Make Father Dungy head of Buc Football operations and lets start to buld this thing. Fitz’s magic is only good for a game or 2 folks. There’s a reason he’s an NFL backup.

  5. stpetebucsfan Says:

I certainly agree with Joe that we have a crisis on our hands.

One is short term…THIS SEASON…it’s not quite totally in the tank but we’re rapidly running out of time and so the season has definitely reached crisis stage. From that perspective decisions about Fitz and JW THIS YEAR are critical.

The second more frightening crisis is long term and that is what happens if we mess up with our JW decision. In that crisis we’re beginning to see the end of the current regime. There is a strong possibility next year’s Bucs will have a NEW…GM…HC(generally that means the entire coaching staff) QB. There is a chance some familiar Bucs are also gone.

We can debate who is responsible…what’s the solution…but we cannot really debate the seriousness of our current situation.

  6. Old Sombrero Kid Says:

If he played like he does his pregame speeches who would be 6 and 1

  7. Old Sombrero Kid Says:

If he played like he does his pregame speeches wen would be 6 and 1

  8. Old Sombrero Kid Says:

If he played like he does his pregame speeches we would be 6 and 1

  9. Buc believer Says:

Getting advice from Dominek who was the WORST GM in NFL history by far and no one denies that is like getting financial advice from a homeless guy! Are you kidding me??? Why is this joker relevant???

  10. aceinthehole Says:

The value that Dom is talking about is not trade value. Nobody is going to give a day one or two draftpick for JW-not for that salary. They will all wait for him to be cut and then negotiate a $5 mil a year “prove it” deal.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

    Rob Says:

“Does anyone think Jay Miss would not suffer some type of injury to cash in on that bone us? ”

    Answer: You’re an idiot.

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

    ace is correct

  13. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

    Summer to do list:

    Rehire Dungy

Trade Winston for Carr straight up

    Meet Oakland in Super Bowl

Win Super Bowl 7-0 with a last second Gerald McCoy pick six

    Die laughing

  14. LakeLand Says:

What Dominik saying is actually ” Dumb”.

The ex-GM said the Bucs would be wise to give Fitzpatrick four starts in order to avoid the “see-saw” of a quarterback carousel. If you fall out of contention or Fitzpatrick isn’t very good, then turn back to Jameis after four games, Dominik said.

    First of all
The 5th game that he is talking about
Will be against Carolina on 12-2-2018

If Jameis tear an ACL in that game
He will still be injured come March 2019
    4 months away
The Bucs will have to pay him $21 Million

  15. Gambelero Says:

People have such short memories of what it’s like to not have a franchise QB. Where’s the crisis? We have two QBs capable of top tier play. One messes up and we go with the other guy. More than half the league isn’t even sure they have 1.

  16. cw_buc_crazy Says:

Dominik wow, my god, anybody else from the losers is going to give advise to a loser??!!
Dominik knows from his experience, how it goes when a QB character is as bad as his skills. Remember, Josh Freeman…

  17. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Wow we have a dumb fan base…it’s easy look at how many times the QB drops back and passes and on top of that nobody is keying on the run. What do you expect? Fitz had a little Irish luck in his first couple of games and you will see the same results from him as Jameis in the coming weeks. It’s hard for QBs to throw that many times without the pics. Jameis suffers from the underneath LBs so get a running game to prevent that. Play to his strengths! I sure hope we don’t run Jameis out of town. It would be a sad sad day as a Bucs fan.

  18. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ It would be a sad day, man. Agreed.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

The run Jameis out of town lynch mob should do the world a favor and at midnight tonight show their disgust for Winston by throwing themselves off the top of the Skyway. Make sure to live stream it or people won’t take you seriously. It’s the most honorable thing for you to do if you really believe in your cause.

  20. LakeLand Says:

I get to watch a good RB tonight

    Douglas Martin

  21. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod

Sounds like you’ll be headed for the Skyway yourself when Jameis is cut loose

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I think if Fitz stinks it up in Carolina Jameis is right back in.
    If he wins….he keeps starting…
If he loses but plays well….he keeps starting.

I think Dominik is incompetent…..but he may have a point about the carousel.

I hope Jameis learns his lesson and as a Buc fan….I wish him success with us….not another team.

  23. Robert Says:

    WTF

Is with all the Dungy talk?

    Just stop

He could never beat the colts or anyone who knew cover 2

His time has passed my friends.

Much respect, but that like calling 55 to come back

  24. CRABMAN Says:

    Preach it brotha

  25. CRABMAN Says:

    @ Lakeland

Doug martin and Chucky my boys!!!

  26. Robert Says:

Can someone make an 87isadumbass screename

    Please

  27. LakeLand Says:

If they don’t have confidence in Jameis

    Why continue to play him?
If he get hurt, it will cost them $21 million next season
    $21 Million against the cap
And probably his last game as a Buc

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Doug Martin averaged 5.7 yards per carry last week…

I had him pegged for getting possibly 1000 yards depending on how soon in the season Lynch was hurt, but I’m guessing it’s more like 700-800 yards at this point. Anywho he’s a good fantasy pickup for 12+ team leagues, should get you 80 yards and a score here and there, he just doesn’t catch passes which hurts in PPR.

In any case he looked really good last week – and yet the same people who want to run Jameis out of town told me all offseason he wouldn’t even make the Raiders team and he was done and is trash and is terrible.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Jameis did find a way to make all of us forget about the Uber “hassle”……throwing picks.

  30. Joseph Mamma Says:

    Rehire Dungy.

Then lets sign Jaquez Green and Reidel Anthony as free agents off the street to run his potent offense.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

WalkdaPlank – The “I know you are but what am I” comeback. About what you expect from the anti-Jameis crowd who have IQs in the low single digits.

  32. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod

Supporting a QB who average 2 turnovers a game and calling him a “Franchise QB” as well as blaming him throwing picks on the “wind” (lmao) is what a low IQ looks like

  33. passthebuc Says:

This site is starting to look like a political campaign

  34. Rod Munch Says:

WalkdaPlank – Yeah, Favre wasn’t a franchise QB either, neither was Manning – because as we know it’s not about winning and losing, it’s about not turning the ball over. Meanwhile Mike Glennon, now there’s a franchise QB, he doesn’t turn the ball over. LOL!

You’re an idiot and the world won’t miss you when you’re gone. Do the honorable thing.

    God bless.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

passthebuc – Indeed, isn’t it fun!

  36. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod

Funny you say that because Joe posted an article where Brett Favre himself literally said you can’t compare him to Jameis Winston. Oh and another thing about comparing Winston to Hall of Fame QB’s all of those QB’s had WINNING records and played in the playoffs by the time they were in Jameis’ shoes.

Don’t worry there will be a blanket and Winston doll on standby for you when he is no longer a Buc

  37. Buccaneerscotty Says:

    70 turnovers in 48 games

  38. LakeLand Says:

    Ryan Fitzpatrick

    185 turnovers in 137 games

  39. Rod Munch Says:

If you want to see the QB that ran the 1970s Air Coryell offense that the Bucs run, here’s the best of them, HOF’er Dan Fouts.

1978, 2999 yards, 24 TDs, 20 INTs (his 7th year in the league)
    1979, 4082 yards, 24 TDs, 24 INTs
    1980, 4715 yards, 30 TDs, 24 INTs
    1981, 4802 yards, 33 TDs, 17 INTs
    1982, 2993 yards, 17 TDs, 11 INTs (only 9 starts)
    1983, 2975 yards, 20 TDs, 15 INTs (only 10 starts)
    1984, 3740 yards, 19 TDs, 17 INTs
    1985, 3638 yards, 27 TDs, 20 INTs
    1986, 3031 yards, 16 TDs, 22 INTs

BTW, here’s his stats for year 4 of his career…

    1976, 2535 yards, 14 TDs, 15 INTs

Those are the numbers of a HOFer running this offense that Dirk runs. For his career, 254 TDs, 242 INTs.

Learn some history kiddos and then you won’t be such boring slobs.

  40. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Buccaneer Scotty right and in how many passes compared to the rest of the league and history?

  41. WalkdaPlank Says:

    LakeLand

Fitz ain’t the answer so those stars are meaningless

Funny thing tho he plays better than Jameis with those numbers

  42. TheDailyAutopsy Says:

Moving on from Winston is pure stupidity.
Dominik is also pure stupidity. That’s why he is out of the NFL.
Jameis needed this. He needed to be benched. He needed to be held accountable. He needed to be humbled.
Canazaro cost us two losses. Would be 5-3.
VH III was playing good ball. Loosing him and having to play these rookies cost us at least one loss.

Look at Winston’s stats. Compare to some Hall of Famers.
Then tell me who you are going to replace him with. Love Fitzmagic, but he is not a franchise QB.

  43. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

They are all haters and never wanted JW here to begin with. They saw him play the last four games last year and look like a top 3-5 QB in the league but they suddenly can’t remember any of that stuff. Nope, dude had a really bad game and we need to hurry back to the Greise, Sims, McCown and Glennon glory days. Oh those were some great offenses. If JW gets another chance this season he will make them look like fools I am sure.

  44. Cobraboy Says:

    “Franchise, W-Munching Turnover Machine”

The players don’t believe in Winston at QB. Why should coaches?

    Fans?

    Glazers?

  45. Rod Munch Says:

The defense gives up 33 points a game, but it’s NFL’s #1 offense that has 1.7 TO’s a game, that is why the team is losing. LOL!

    Complete and utter morons.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

TheDailyAutopsyv – The Winston haters are triggered, you can’t talk sense to them, can’t give any type of historical perspective, can point out Jameis is 2-1 this year with a real kicker, nope, it’s just JAMEIS BAD. It’s just an internet lynch mob mentality where a bunch of idiots start yelling loudly which attracts more idiots, then they all yell the same thing so many times they believe it.

Anywho no reason to talk logically to them – I mean you can try, but always throw some insults in since you’re not changing the minds of a lynch mob.

  47. Lord Cornelius Says:

This is why long term there is no positive outlook for me on this team as of 11-1-2018.

Best case scenario = SB win with Winston after Fitz struggles or goes down with injury. Franchise QB secure and everything looks amazing for the future.

2nd Best = SB win with Fitzpatrick. Still would need to figure out long term QB solution and Winston likely gone. But who cares we won the SB.

3rd best = Winston comes back; plays well and we go to playoffs. Franchise QB / future looking awesome at least.

Now everything else beyond the above scenarios = bad long term outlook. i.e.:

Fitzpatrick plays well and we go to the playoffs and lose. Future at QB uncertain. Not sure wtf we have with WInston and he’s likely gone. We basically gotta hope Fitz can play a couple more years at an elite level while we groom a replacement.

    or

Fitzpatrick plays bad and we lose a few games. Winston re-asserted but it’s too late even if he goes undefeated. Season lost.

If Winston is not the future here then Licht needs to go with him. You can’t forigve f*cking that pick up.

  48. mark2001 Says:

Rod…instead of only watching the Bucs, suggest you turn off the porn and watch a franchise QB like Rodgers, or Brady…or if you like the younger folk try Mahomes. Then maybe you will understand what a franchise QB looks like and why Jameis is benched. Hopefully he hasn’t peaked as far as his QB skills are concerned, or he will never be a top 15 QB. But if Jameis leaves town, it will be because he torched a HC, GM and a football team with great offensive potential.

  49. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs averages 28.7 points a game
The defense allows 33.3 points per game

The Bucs are 25th in points differential

The only teams that are worse

    32. Buffalo
    31. Oakland
    30. Arizona
    29. San Francisco
    28. New York Giants
    27.Miami
    26. Cleveland

They sure are in good company
None of those are playoff teams

    Bottom of the barrel teams

  50. Rod Munch Says:

    #1 offense in football
    #32 defense in football.

    Blame the QB for losing.

    LOL!

  51. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod

I don’t blame Winston for every loss. I do blame him for turning the ball over which contributes to losses though. He single handedly lost the Bengals game. With, as you said, the No.1 offense.

The Bucs have two guys over 6’5” and Winston overthrows them

    35 fumbles in 48 games

    54 INT’s in 48 games

    Franchise QB right there

  52. wjs90 Says:

They missed the window to trade him. Benching him during the cincy game made sense. I know many will disagree but the prior games this season, think most of the turnovers were not bad decisions just poor mechanics which is actually flexible. Personally think benching him next game was wrong, the special teams and defense are not playoff quality so keeping playing him and truly answer the question. Who really cares how much DJax cries.

But benching him, they are telling everyone they have the answer and it’s not JW. So why not go get any value u can for him before the deadline. Even Bucs not stupid enough pay a backup 21mm so now teams will wait until he is cut. Stick him in a modern offense and watch him roll. Not even about JW though, just how poor Bucs process decisions.

  53. TheNorm Says:

    Lmao

I love seeing Rod Munch all riled up lol. Pulling out all the stops to defend jaymiss lol.

Get over it stupid. Your boy got benched for a 35 year old back up lol. Let that sink in. That should say everything you need to know. You are a moron. You think you know more than everyone else. You don’t know sh it. But guess what I know? Your boy is riding the pine and can’t beat out a 35 year old backup that isn’t very good either.

I TOLD YOur STUPID AS S THAT WINSTONS DAYS WERE NUMBERED LMAO.

  54. AlteredEgo Says:

If Jameis would only play like a good NFL QB we could move on to other issues facing the roster…. to do that he will have to play in ways we have not seen him play.

  55. TheNorm Says:

Always always always blaming someone else.

I would love to hear your pathetic explanation of wtf happened in Cincy.

Why must I share air with someone as stupid as ROD MUNCH.

  56. TheNorm Says:

Lmao Winston has never looked like a top 3-5 QB in the league.

Are you insane? Top 3-5 lmao hahahahahahahahhahahahaha

    Wow it’s thick in here.

Yep Tampa has the dumbest fans. I’ve heard it all now.

    Top 3-5 lmao hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  57. Dooshlarue Says:

75% of Bucs fans on this site wanted Jameis traded by the deadline the other day, read the poll results.
Yet a handful of truly pathetic JW fanboys keep trying to convince the rest of us “idiots” that he is the Messiah and we are doomed without him.
I want to get mad at you ree-tards but you’re just so dam blind and delusional I don’t know what to say.

This season is not over. Yes, we’ve had a tough time with the Panthers the last few years, but if we win, we’re 4-4 and 2-1 in our division….. not bad.
I’m looking forward to Sunday and I expect our team to play hard for Fitz because they believe, rightfully so, that he gives this team the best chance to win.
Deal with it and root for your team ……..morons.

  58. TheNorm Says:

    @dooshlarue

Yea you can’t win with those morons. They throw around useles stats to try and make us believe he’s “elite”. However anyone with eyes can see the truth.

They probably can’t see the truth on an old box tv 📺 in their trailer parks.

So I actually feel sorry for them.

  59. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Altered, you have never seen Jameis play good football? GTFO with your trolling. If you are a Bucs fan and have watched all of their games and never once thought Jameis played well you are lying to yourself due to your hatred. Dude was leading the #1 offense in the league and holds almost all Buc QB records but yeah, he is total crap.

  60. DB55 Says:

Just a friendly reminder that since 2014 the Bucs have paid Gerald McCoy 65millions dollars for 31 sacks. That’s almost 2 million per sack. In that same span Aaron Donald has 49 sacks. But yea Winston is definitely not worth 20 mil a yr (huge eye roll)

  61. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Doosh

Root for your team…..indeed…..sometimes I wonder if they really do…..or they post negatives here and root for a loss and poor play simply to prove themselves right.
It is sad….it is pathetic and as a fan since ’76…..I can say….it is wrong!!!

  62. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

There is a difference between being a fanboy and knowing that JW succeeding here is the best route for this franchise. I say bring him back once Fitz becomes Fitz again and see if he can right the ship. You really want to roll with a 36yo highly erratic QB instead of hoping the guy that we picked number one overall succeeds. Oh, and all those stats aren’t fake. I have watched Jameis have games where he has looked like a top 5 QB. Those types of games is why all those stats exist.

  63. Rod Munch Says:

    NFL #1 offense
    NFL #32 defense

    Answer: Blame the QB.

    LOL!

As I said, world class idiots.

  64. Tampabaybucfan Says:

With Jameis & Fitz its like having two girlfriends…

One is a knockout….drop dead gorgeous but she gets drunk and sleeps with all of your friends and talks about it.

The other…..not so beautiful…..a bit older and certainly not eye candy….but she is steady, faithful and you can count on her in a pinch.

    Which one would you marry…

We are lucky…..we are married to both of them right now.

  65. TheNorm Says:

^^^^and here he is in the flesh lol

The idiot with the STATS lol.

Hey rod show us the games played vs turnover stat lol.

Idiot. Actually never mind. Your yapping has worn thin. No one wants to hear your lame excuses anymore. Your boy got benched for an old guy just earning a few more bucks before retiring.

All your stats and blah blah blah isn’t gonna save your boy. Get ready to root for whatever team he goes too.

    Good riddance you moron.

  66. DB55 Says:

    Doosh

is the Messiah and we are doomed without him
    ———-
When is the last time you made the playoffs? How many coaches have you had since your last playoff appearance? How many QBs have you gone through since then? This org has always been doomed.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

wjs90 – I actually don’t have an issue with benching him this week as he has historically played his worst games against the Panthers, and as I said all year you play the hot hand, so if Fitz is hot, keep playing him. Of course Fitz wasn’t hot, which is why he got benched, and he’s 2-2, and Jameis is 2-1 with a decent kicker, or heck, if D-Jax gets the ball that bounces between his legs the team is 2-1. Then again Fitz, I believe, would be 3-1 except Dirk took the ball out of his hands at the end of the game to punt when no one with an IQ over 30 thought the Bucs would get the ball back (Dirk falls into the under 30 category).

Anywho I hope Fitz goes out there and wins since the season is over if the team is 3-5. But because of how Dirk handled this, if Fitz is Fitz, and plays like Fitz then you fire Dirk.

    Seems fair to me.

  68. AlteredEgo Says:

TDTB…. good football is not an every now and then thing ….if you are honest you’ll have to admit Jameis padded passing stats only look good because they are compared to football as it was played before the scales were tipped full tilt boogie to passing… he’ll even compared to Fitz he comes up short…hence the locker room enthusiasm when Fitz is behind center

  69. Dooshlarue Says:

    Rod,

You keep putting up that stat.
Can you give us idiots a breakdown of Fitzpatrick’s numbers vs. your heroes numbers.
For some reason, I’m thinking Fitz is responsible for the majority of that number 1 offense.
But after all, I’m an idiot so as DB55 likes to say…… wtfdik?
    Prove it big boy !!

  70. TheNorm Says:

Rod actually believes that the 90 percent of people who agree Winston hasn’t shown to be an elite franchise QB after 3.5 years are all wrong and he’s the one that’s right.

Lol. Narcissistic much? You’re right munchie everyone is wrong except you DB55 and Lamarcus.

  71. Mike Says:

When I think of the idea of gettjng rid of Jameis for a second it makes me ill.
Perhaps because I know how meaningless a second round pick is at this side show

  72. Rod Munch Says:

    Norm <- Triggered. LOL!

  73. AlteredEgo Says:

Munch… if you had brain cancer and Jameis was a doctor that treated your condition and his success rate was inline with his W-L record and post surgery complications were related to Jameis’s TD to inception and fumbles would you make him your doctor?

  74. Ndog Says:

I’m telling you he’s going to end up in New England. When that happens we are all going to be very very sick to our stomach for a very long time.

  75. Rod Munch Says:

Dooshlarue – The offense was #3 under Fitz, it’s been #1 under Winston, but don’t let facts get in the way of being angry. GRRRRR!!!!!

  76. Bird Says:

Jameis looked like crap against browns, falcons and bengals How is that the number one ranked offense ?

Three crap defenses that has bad injuries. And Jameis didn’t beat the Browns. The browns beat the Browns Everybody saw that.

I beg you. Please take your hands off that’s mans junk

  77. Tvan1011 Says:

Winston is done, he played terrible against a bad defense and fitz almost won with no time left. Those of you that are afraid we will give him up and becomes like Steve young dont realize that young went to a superbowl team with one of the greatest qb and coaches of all time. This is different and jameis will never change. Last week made me realize he isnt the guy, those ints were a joke. Blame the coaches if you want but if fitz can win why cant jameis, it is because he doesnt have IT.

If JW goes to the Pats and Belicheat is able to find a way to keep winning it won’t upset one bit!!!! I do not cry over spilt milk.

I worry about the Bucs not the Pats…if JW goes there he’s no longer a Buc and except when we play them he’s no threat. And you give me hope even there with that post that JW will be sooo motivated if he plays the Bucs. I HOPE so. The more motivated he becomes the wider those saucer eyes that look hopped up on speed become and the more picks we can expect.

MORE than one team fields winners every year in the NFL. If one of those teams happens to be the Pats with Jameis who cares.

Somebody offered up a great post earlier….we’ve had dozens of QB’s who have left this team only to continue sucking or perhaps achieve mediocrity. We’ve had just THREE who played on SB teams yet out of DOZENS the only former QB’s that get mentioned are the SB winners…not the more than 30 who sucked somewhere else. Dilfer…who didn’t even start at the beginning of that season and was not even resigned after winning a SB…the first and ONLY SB winning QB to not be resigned. Doug Williams who went to DC…sat the bench…came in one magical year for part of a Super Bowl. Williams retired with a 5–9 record as Redskins starter (8–9, counting playoffs)

Steve Young is the ONLY HOF QB we’ve lost out of dozens and dozens….yet you guys keep pulling out the scare card…ooohh what happens if he goes somewhere else and wins.

An absurd question that assumes we’ll do nothing to address our own QB situation. Johnny Manziel comes out after feasting on college DB’s with ME13…Joe said we HAD to have him or be condemned to never having a franchise QB…lo and behold in just ONE year “America’s QB” becomes a Buc solving ALL of our problems. Off field questions? No sweat…he lasted ONE season before bringing us even more bad pub.

I get thinking JW is the answer to A problem. I was FOR drafting him. The difference between me and many posters here is I do not believe he is the ONLY answer.

    As Kenny Rogers famously sang…

“You’ve got to know when to hold ’em
    Know when to fold ’em
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run”

Seems like the largest debate remaining among our fan base is whether to walk away or run.

    I’m young and need help.
I make a lot of silly mistakes and bad decisions Rod.
    You understand, right?

  85. Tvan1011 Says:

4 years in the NFL with same coach and he has gotten worse, is that the coach? 2 ints per game guaranteed is on winston not the coach, the guy stinks.

  86. Easy Says:

Work out a Winston for Carr trade please.

  87. lurker Says:

gruden will want to get rid of carr.

  88. lurker Says:

    was thinking the same, easy

  89. Rod Munch Says:

Carr is awesome, ZERO turnovers, which we know from the Winston haters is the most important part of playing QB. Sure, they’ll lose 33-6, but NO TURNOVERS, that’s more important than winning or losing or scoring points! Make it happen.

  90. Rod Munch Says:

Did you just see Carr there, on 3rd and 12, he didn’t force the ball downfield, instead he threw a 6 yard pass. So sure, they have to punt, but they’ll live to fight another day – he didn’t force the ball downfield 50 yards where it might be picked off, no, he did what Mike Glennon would do and got the 6 yards and now they’ll punt. Nevermind they’re down 24-3 with a defense that can’t stop anyone, nope, the most important thing is NOT turning the ball over, even if that turnover was the same as a 50 punt. If we’ve learned anything from the anti-Winston lynch mob it’s that it’s OK to lose and to be boring and to score 6 points and to have no one in the world care about your team, so long as you don’t turn the ball over!

  91. lurker Says:

you are just a silly, little man, rod

  92. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Rod

    You’re right, forget Carr!

Winston is the best of both worlds baby!

He turns the ball over AND loses!

  93. Pittsshore Says:

Why are you writing so much garbage on a backup QB? A loser in life and on the field.

  94. Rod Munch Says:

Just parodying the anti-Winston slobs, so that’s a fair description.

  95. lurker Says:

    also
he assaults people and gets suspended

  96. Rod Munch Says:

WalkdaPlank – Yeah, took over a 2 win team, took them 6 wins, then 9 wins, then got injured, and would be 2-1 this year with a decent kicker, all done while literally having the worst defense in the NFL the entire time while having a top 5 offense – but yeah, what a loser.

    Good argument kiddo. LOL!

  97. BigMacAttack Says:

Whatever. This whole thing is a big joke. Licht could have probably made a couple of good trades, but as usual did nothing to fill voids or help the team. Has any GM wasted more of the Glazers’ money? I don’t thing Dom is even close. Pull the plug on everybody.

  98. lurker Says:

  99. WalkdaPlank Says:

Not even 73 early Christmas gifts to the other team in 48 games.

Oh wait, it was the WIND’S FAULT!

    Right, Rod?

  100. donuts Says:

The way SF QB Mullens (UDFA) is playing tonight gives hope that it is possible to find someone to play QB for this Buc team. Life after Fitzmagic and Winston may exist after all!

  101. Cobraboy Says:

No one is blaming Winston for the losses, but he is, in fact, a huge contributor.

I blame Winston for being a bad QB. I also blame the defense for their complete clusterf@<k.

The two are not connected. But 10 int. in not even three games is not winning offense.

  102. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Is Jameis going to block Addison, Peppers or Keuchly? No, it’s Smith and Dotson? You Jameis haters are stupid. NOPE, our horrible offensive line that sucks has to do that and the Panthers defenders are going to destroy us. Is Jameis going to cover and tackle McCafferry, Olsen, Funchess and Newton? NOPE, that’s a job for one of the worst defenses in all of football against the #2 Rushing offense in football. But you’re right, it’s ALL Jameis.

  103. Rod Munch Says:

BigMacAttack – I don’t get the impression that Dom has any idea of what is happening there anymore, when you listen to him talk he seems to be completely disconnected. As for blowing the team up, there’s basically a 100% chance of Dirk getting fired, but I highly doubt the Glazers are letting a 24-year old QB with numbers that match HOFers at his age walk away so they can appease a bunch of blowhards on a message board. If this week’s game goes poorly you might even have the Glazers do what they’ve never done, and that is fire a coach midseason. Dirk has made a huge mess of this – which could have been avoided by simply saying we’re going to play the hot hand and Winston hasn’t historically played well against Carolina, but we’ll see him again. Simple solution, truthful statement, but by not saying that he’s tied his fate to Fitz – and we all know how that ends in the end.

  104. Bucsace Says:

Doug Martin does look pretty good tonght. at San Francisco….. Raiders need to be careful though…..sign him to a big contract and watch those numbers plummet

    .

  105. donuts Says:

Rod- and we all know how that ends in the end…..

Hoisting the Lombardi trophy to the screaming fans of Tampa after the most amazing 10-6 season led by Fitzmagic and post season tromp. #GoBucs

  106. Trench War Says:

If Tua declares then we do what it takes to get that #1 draft position. It’s sad that we can’t concentrate on other parts of the team. We shouldn’t even be having this conversation about the first pick in the 2015 draft. This should be the least of our worries having to deal with a turnover prone QB. He has all the weapons to be great but all we talk about and deal with constantly is Jameis and his poor decisions, and accuracy. On and off the field. The drama has this franchise by the nut sack and Jameis has been part of the common denominator.

  107. Rod Munch Says:

donuts – LOL! Hey if it happens then fantastic, you all can mock me all you want.

BTW I don’t dislike Fitz, but he is who he is, which is why I said play the hot hand, been saying it all year – if Fitz is putting up numbers and playing well, then you keep playing him. I also said during that Chicago game DO NOT play Winston yet, and added that Dirk is such a moron he’ll do whatever is the worst decision is – which is of course what happened.

  108. Rod Munch Says:

Trench War – We have the top offense in football and the worst defense in football – but the drama queens think the 24-year old QB with historic numbers who has lead the team to it’s 2 best offense years in team history, in 3.25 season, is the problem. LOL!

There is just absolutely no self awareness, no historical perspective, nothing – just hate. They’re the NPC’s of the football world.

  109. Rod Munch Says:

Wait why is Gruden punishing Carr!?! He didn’t turn the ball over and we know that is the most important thing in football. So what he only put up 3 points – HE DIDN’T TURN THE BALL OVER! Gruden needs to read this message board and learn what the most important trait of a QB is. What a joke!

  110. WalkdaPlank Says:

You seem to know a lot about QB’s who get benched Rod

    Lol

  111. Wesley Says:

    We need a franchise quarterback.

  112. cmurda Says:

I went to the 4 letter website to see what the deal was with UCF (hoping to see them lose) and then I see a link titled. “Follow live Nick Mullens having career night in first NFL Start”. I just laughed out loud at how dumb that title is. Of course it’s a career night, it’s his only one. Still, dude looks good in his first start though.

  113. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Rod,
I usually don’t agree with you but I hear you on this one. I have always been a vocal Jameis supporter and I will admit that last game had me so pissed at him I wanted him benched but…

I never hoped or thought this organization would turn their back on the best QB we’ve ever had. Dirk and Licht are about to set this franchise back way behind their employment here. Jameis averages maybe 1 turnover a game yet he has 4 and people try to say that is who is is and history bla bla bla, while ignoring actual history.

Jameis came back fires up and trying to do too much to “prove himself” to everyone and live up to the crazy explosion this offsense had in the first two games. Last season when he came back he played game manager and played the best he ever has. I hope this regime realizes that he is our future and their best chance at a future. Not a 35 year old journeyman QB.

  114. T REX Says:

Hilarious. Winston knob slobberers are triggered.

    Awesome

  115. lurker Says:

i thought jameis was the savior of this franchise.

now he is looking like a journeyman. a less-accurate fitzpatrick.

  116. D the Bucs fan Says:

Koetter hire was a mistake be the organization. Because in his career qbs and teams have gotten worse the longer he stays. Glazers please hire coaches that will hold the p players and other coaches accountable immediately not just when his job is on the line.

  117. DB55 Says:

So Todd Monken was Nick Mullen’s coach at Southern Miss

  118. tickrdr Says:

Sorry to interrupt the lovefest with Rod Munch and his many admirers, but…… New and Updated:
Time for “More Fun with Statistics”, which are all obtained with gratitude from the folks at profootballreference.com.

    Remember I posted previously:
If you look at the first five games of this year, and do the simple math, you will see that both the Bucs AND their opponents had the same number of drives = 58. Actually they listed only 57 for the opponents, but they did not count the shortest drive of them all, the pick6 vs. Pittsburgh, so both teams had 58 possessions. Note: I did not adjust for end of the half possessions, since they will tend to even out.

The vaunted Bucs’ offense had scored 17 Tds and 6 FGs = 23 scores in 58 possessions, and also had 11 turnovers (9 INTs and 2 FUM) in 58 possessions.

But the Bucs have had TWO different QBs play.
The “journeyman” Ryan Fitzpatrick offense scored 12 TDs and 5 FGs for 17 scores with 43 of those 58 possessions, and also had 7 turnovers (5 INTs and 2 FUM) during those 43 possessions.
The “messiah”, America’s Quarterback, ProBowler Jameis Winston directed the last 15 possessions and scored 5 TDs and 1 FG for 6 scores out of those 15 possessions, and also had 4 INTs out of those 15 possessions.

Now let’s update the data for the last two games.
There were 15 possessions for the Bucs and JW3 during the Cleveland game. They scored 3 TDs and 2 FG, but also had 2 INTs, 2 FUM, a safety and a missed FG, but also made a 59 yd FG to win the game.
Against Cincinnati, JW3 led 9 possessions, resulting in 2TDs and 1 FG, but also had 4 INTs, including a pick 6.
Fitzpatrick led the last 4 possessions in that game, and had 2 TDs and 1 FG, and no turnovers.
    So, for 7 games total:
JW3 has led 15 + 15 + 9 = 39 possessions, with 10 TDs and 4 FG for 14 total scores, yielding a scoring percentage of 14 of 39 = 35.9% of the time. They also had 10 INTs and 2 FUMs, and even if you do not count 1 FUM not committed by Jameis, that leaves 11 turnovers in 39 possessions = 28.2% of the time.
    Ryan Fitzpatrick led 43 + 4 = 47 total possessions, scoring 14 TDs, and 6 FGs for 20 total scores in 47 possessions = 20/47 = 42.5% scoring percentage. They also had 7 total turnovers (5 INTs and 2 FUMs) for 7/47 = 14.9%

So, Fitz had 8 more drives than Jameis, and the Bucs scored 4 more TDs, and 2 more FGs than the JW3-led offense. Please note that BOTH Bucs’ QBs turned the ball over more frequently than the opposing QBs, however JW3 has ended drives with a turnover (10 INTs and 1 FUM) 28.2% of the time. In other words, more than 1 of every 4 drives resulted in a turnover!
To my knowledge, these results are with essentially the same offensive personnel for each QB. Please check my math, and make any needed updates.

    tickrdr

  119. Rod Munch Says:

tickrdr – You’re including a historic start from Fitz where he was literally better than every other QB in the history of the game for two full games. Also Fitz came in at the end of the Cinny game where they’re playing a prevent to hold a big lead.

Anywho, as I said a billion times, you play the hot hand, which means you play Fitz until he turns into Fitz, and if you think Fitz is literally the best QB in the history of football, that’s the pace he’s been on, to have the greatest season in the history of the game, and you ignore the other 13 years of his career, then sure, his numbers look great. But he’s also 2-2 with one blowout loss. Winston is 1-2, however should be 2-1 with a decent kicker (and Fitz’s losses wasn’t influenced by the kicker), with one blowout loss, which turned out to be a last second loss on a FG and not a blowout at all. With that said Fitz, I strongly believe, would have been 3-1 had Dirk not been a coward and punted the ball at the end of the Steelers game, I have no doubt in my mind that Fitz gets 10 yards on 4th and 10 and takes the Bucs in for a TD and goes on to win the game. But Dirk, who is a coward, punted the ball when everyone knew there was no way the defense is stopping the Steelers and getting the ball back. So Dirk basically killed Fitzmagic because he’s a coward. Now Dirk knows his job is on the line and now flip flops back to Fitz hoping he can save his job. Anywho we’ve seen this story already and we know how it ends – BUT I’d love to be wrong because I don’t want the Bucs season over next week and to start talking about the 2019 draft already.

Anywho I do appreciate the look at numbers – and I mean that. When you have people that are willing to at least say something interesting or different and try to back it up with stats and history, that’s a conversation worth having as opposed to the bumper sticker trolls who just repeat the same thing over and over again and literally have no idea what they’re talking about.

  120. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

The sample size is too small to expect those numbers to be a constant. Jameis previously did not average 3+ turnovers a game. This is an anomaly and I’m not defending his play this season but who tf benches a #1 pick who has shown glimpses of greatness. It’s not like he’s played like Leaf.
What a Buc’n mess. Every year it’s MRSA, QB meltdown, big toe stubborn, money stealing ghosts, tree humpin, finger eatin, can’t kick, no OC, savior Mcown, waste a first on Revis, let players walk embarrassment after embarrassment.
Now we are screwing this up.
    It’s a Bucs life.

  121. Deez Bucs Says:

    Rod Munch… you blind homie?

Winston is throwing it right to the defense. Has nothing to do with the scheme or the defense.

    Stop slobbing that winston knob

  122. Rod Munch Says:

In Andrew Luck’s fourth year his numbers plummeted to 15 TDs and 12 INTs in 7 games while going 2-5 in that time, with his QB rating dropping to 74 (Jameis is currently at 74), before going out with injury. I guess the Colts should have cut him.

Anywho here’s an interesting stat, Jameis is having his best year to date if you measure his success via ESPN’s QBR as opposed to the standard QB rating.

“For each play, QBR begins by asking: How successful was the play for the team, given its context? Context for each play includes the down, yards to go for a first down, distance to the end zone and time remaining in the half. All of these factors can be used before the ball is snapped to estimate the future net score advantage the team currently on offense can expect.”

So basically it’s saying Winston makes plays when it matters – like getting 15 yards on 3rd and 12, instead of the Mike Glennon approach of getting 6 yards on 3rd and 12. I know what the Winston haters are saying, but Mike Glennon didn’t turn the ball over and he’s what we need at QB, a game manager that doesn’t score points, but more importantly doesn’t turn the ball over since you might score more than the other team, but if you lose the TO battle, you lose the message board war.

Now with that said clearly Winston isn’t having his best year to date, but it gives some context to his plays, and verifies the idea that he does stuff like get first downs and moves the ball and doesn’t take 3 yards on 3rd and 12 like Mike Glennon would, or throw the ball away at the end of a game when you’re down by 25 instead of risking a turnover (Miami at home on national TV) .

  123. Pittsshore Says:

@Rodmunch: you need to stay out of the liquor cabinet, then post like you are writing a Steven King novel. Just like King’s Novels, your comments are Fiction. Your FSU coward Winston is so ignorant that he forgot to fake a 20 million dollar injury after throwing that last pick 6. He could of at least acted like he was going to make a tackle. He played so poorly that it would not surprise me if he had money on the game.

It really would be Bill Belicheck’s final “F you” to the football world, if he took Jameis Winston and won a Superbowl.

I never really considered it before, but to be honest with you, I could kind of see Bill taking a run at that.

Hoping it doesn’t come to that.

  132. cw_buc_crazy Says:

Why u people think that other can see what we can’t, JW was available for trade and no one asked for him. Who left Bucs still SUCK.
Some FSU fan here said he is preparing to watch last night game Raiders vs 49ers, so he can enjoy Gruden and Martin.. well 3-34 was the score. 1-7 49ers beat 1-6 Raiders. No shine on Martin 4.3 yards per carry same as here, and JG still sucks.
On the other side Mullens know to throw the ball “to” his receivers on his debut to NFL coming as free agent .Don’t forget that. Remember Winston debut, he yet have to learn how to hit receivers.
It frustrate me that still are rumors coming from one bucs place, that he still may be our future QB.
That may be the end of my season ticket. To much pain.

  133. Pryda Says:
