Body Language

November 19th, 2018

It wasn’t so much what Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said. It was his physical reaction.

Yesterday at the New Jersey Swamplands, Joe asked the Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching leader of the Bucs if he second-guessed himself for not starting America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Koetter quickly said no, a sure sign that he wasn’t trying to con anyone.

But then just as Koetter seemed about ready to field another question he paused briefly, then began talking about how in a football game virtually every play a coach can second-guess himself, which is true.

But as Koetter began to discuss all the options of second-guessing, for every word Koetter uttered, it seemed an ounce of energy evaporated from him, like a slow drip, as if he was in a confessional detailing to a priest all of his past sins.

When Koetter finished with his confession/answer, it was as if all life was drained from Koetter. He stood there briefly looking like a condemned man.

Joe is just guessing the few seconds Koetter spent discussing second-guessing, the memories of all the failed plays and all the failed moves of the past two years went racing through his brain.

dirk always has the worst body language of any HC on the sideline….he knows he’s a dead man walking…..

    Kris Richard 4 HC!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  2. Kansas95Buc Says:

man can we get this clown show over with?

  3. Bucamania Says:

Get a real leader of men in here, PLEASE!!

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

Pretty crappy choice for the guy.

  5. Pete Mitchell Says:

It sure looks like the stage is set for an Arians/Pagano reunion…

Part of me will hate to see Koetter blown out, but he’s made too many wrong choices.

  6. ben Says:

I think Joe is related to Winston as he writes like Winston is a great qb…He maybe but after 4 years not so much.

  7. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

His body language was probably asking if this is the local reporter that gave me that stupid f’ing nickname.

  8. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @ben

you must not be watching the games because our problem isn’t the QB per say, maybe we should be talking about not having a run game or a trash defense

  9. Dewey Selmon Says:

Well the good news is there are 6 games left, the bad news is there are 6 games left.

  10. GhostofSchiano Says:

Koetter calls plays – 500 yards of offense 3 points.

Monken calls plays – 500 yards of offense 35 points.

Turn all eyes to the defense. Licht has failed to fix the trenches, LB’s injuries cannot be accounted for. Secondary I half blame Licht for not drafting / signing and the other half to coaches not developing players.

The Bucs have “some” pieces, need more and need competent coaching.

Here’s hoping for massive change and an improved 2019 season, GO BUCS

LMAO here. I told you guys here on Joe’s forum countless times when Koetter and Smitty came here they would not succeed. Why do you think the Falcons owner Arthur Blanks dumped them? They could not/did not get the job done in Atlanta. What? Did you think they were going to chanfe their ways here? Thats on poor ownership..Paging the Glazers..Hello? Some coaches should just stay in their lanes. Koett as an OC was just fine. he has no clue as a HC.

  12. GhostofSchiano Says:

Someone on this board made a point in reference to the Eagles letting Allen and Curry walk.

After 10 games I think you were exactly right.

  13. Pickgrin Says:

Dirk sealed his fate by not starting Winston the last 2 games. Bucs likely as not would have won both games and the whole landscape would be different right now sitting at 5-5 with another winnable game at home next Sunday…

“Fitz gives us the best chance to win”

Oh really?? I and many called BS from the second those words fell out of your mouth Dirk. I’m sure you ARE second guessing that stupid stance now. You Never should have gone there Dirk. NEVER should have gone there…

  14. Ed Says:

Its a tough job coaching an NFL team and I believe Dirk did the best he could. I have no issues with how he handles himself. Theres too many reasons to say why he failed but I do think some of it falls on not creating more physical toughness in this team. There just hasn’t been a game I’ve watched from them in a couple of years where I could honestly say they dominated a team on either line of scrimmage. Team needed to be pushed harder and to get physically stronger. Too many breakdowns on the lines, those position coaches didn’t do a good job. Dirk didn’t demand enough accountability from players or coaches. I think he just expected them to be pro’s when they needed more development and more teaching. Not a total waste, at least they started developing Howard and Godwin and Humphries.

  15. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Koetter was promoted beyond his leadership abilities…and that’s ok. He knows offense…but he got in over his head at Arizona State as well. He somewhat fell arse backwards into this gig and brought Smiley Smith along for the ride. Times up, DK. A mercy firing would do the whole situation a lot of good. Your body language shows a beaten man…simple as that.

  16. BrianBucs Says:

Still say there is a possibility that the decision to play Fitz over Winston may have come from somebody higher up the food chain than Koetter. He may have had no choice. He can’t admit that publically of course

  17. Anonymous Says:

We need a mean, good vet HC with playoff experience that can produce a coaching staff and end this three year cycle of coordinators, college coaches, and wash ups. Ariens or Cowher would be a dream. I don’t know about Dungy like so many others do. Tampa-2 don’t work no more and Monte isn’t gonna be here with you. Unless it was a GIGANTIC stack of cash, Jim Harbaugh is not going to leave Michigan for muggy 100 degree Tampa. And like I said, no more college coaches. No on John Harbaugh either like so many have expressed interest in, there are a lot better HCs out there that I feel the Glazers are finally gonna make up the right move by opening the vault. I would also have no problem bringing Raheem Morris back. Good and experienced coach in almost every coaching position in his long career. And we wouldn’t have to pay him one hundred million dollars.

  18. BucTown Says:

Excellent point BrianBucs. The Glazers hate Winston to a man (plus one woman), so there’s a possibility. But it’s hard to know the full story Licht would tell you privately that he now wishes he’d traded that #1 pick. The coaching staff – to a man – would tell you they have no faith in Winston, assuming they dared say such a thing. And the players would tell you that Winston’s ‘leadership’ skills might fly in the fifth grade, but not in the NFL.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Buctown

If you are correct, then why did JW get put in the game?

If Dork has been ordered not to play him, then you don’t play him no matter what…

  20. TONYC Says:

His statement about the game (something to the effect)” It’s going to be high scoring because we have too many guys out on defense” This statement really irks me. I guess what he’s saying is I have no confidence in this defense and that the d isn’t even my responsibility. This guy has no idea what’s going on defensively and should have never been considered as a HC. That’s why the defense is always out of position, seemingly confused and constantly getting injured. There’s no one overseeing this defensive unit. I’ve never seen such a disconnect between head coach and a defensive unit.I don’t really wanted believe Koetter wanted this job based on what I’ve observed in his language, demeanor and actions.

  21. TONYC Says:

    ^ “ I don’t believe Koetter wanted this job”

  22. TONYC Says:

Has anyone ever heard a head coach say yeah we’re going to give up a lot of points. It’s a given.

    Your insane.

  24. uckinator Says:

Soft coach, Soft practices, Soft team.

  25. Aubpierce Says:

Glazers cut the crap already. Fire Koetter and the incompetent general manager today. I have been a fan since Steve Spurrier spent more time on his butt then upright. No longer can i tolerate near total incompetence.

  26. Nick2 Says:

People can continue to bash Winston on his character but anyone who knows football understands Koetter trying to make Fitzpatrick into anything other than a turnover machine is praying the other 5 Offensive Coordinators who worked with him have been incompetent. Jameis is not innocent of turnovers but he is not 35 either and still not getting it. To keep hoping Fitz would have the season of his life unlike any other was Koetters undoing along with keeping his friend Mike Smith as DC.

  27. BrianBucs Says:

    Ndog.

    Nope, makes perfect sense.
Drafting Winston #1 will probably cost Licht his job

  28. Bobby M. Says:

If only our QBs didn’t avg nearly 3 turnovers a game….I wonder what the record would look like. If only our kickers could be avg….what would the record look like. Koetter should be exhausted, he’s tried every imaginable scenario to field a winner with a collection of misfits.

  29. Jameis Almighty! Says:

    Cut Koetter! Fireee Light!!!

  30. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Jameis Winston won’t cost Licht his job dummy, it’s all of the other crap picks and free agent signings that will get him canned. Jason Loser Licht is the definition of a crap GM. Him and Matt Millen are the worst of all time.

  31. Buc believer Says:

I sure don’t mind reading the cheerleaders body language! That is a story I can read over and over again!

  32. Dave Anglin Says:

He’s a Zombie at this point. The one time the Glazers should fire a coach during the season is NOW! Send a message to the players! If you can’t get it done or don’t care “YOU WILL BE GONE!” Something has to change the loser mentality has taken over once again.
