Anyone See The End Of The Seahawks Game?
November 4th, 2018Joe has been in a foul mood ever since the Bucs coughed up 35 points in the first half today. That showing had the Q-word written all over it.
And then Joe blew a gasket watching the end of the Seahawks-Chargers game.
Trailing by eight points with seven seconds to play at the Chargers 20-yard line, Seattle opted to run a real football play. Russell Wilson took a snap, dropped back to pass and threw an arcing pass to receiver Tyler Lockett in the left corner of the end zone. And poof, out came the pass interference flag on Chargers defensive back Michael Davis.
Seattle ball on the 1 yard line.
Three weeks ago today, the Bucs were in the exact same situation — ball on the Falcons-20 with seven seconds to play. Instead of trailing by eight, the Bucs were down five, 34-29.
Dirk Koetter and Todd Monken decided they didn’t have a good play in their playbook for that scenario, despite big targets in O.J. Howard, Mike Evans, Cameron Brate and Chris Godwin.
They opted to run a trick play with Jameis Winston running up the gut before launching what was ideally going to be a series of laterals leading to a winning touchdown. The play had about a 1 percent chance to work, Joe believes, maybe 2 percent, whereas a throw to the end zone was probably about a 10 or 12 percent shot at success (penalty or reception).
Today’s pass interference on the Chargers sort of illustrated those percentages. Joe guarantees that nobody watching the game was stunned by the penalty and resulting placement of the ball on the 1 yard line for a final play.
Yeah, you’re darn right Joe is still miffed by that Koetter/Monken decision, among other calls by this coaching staff.
It sure would be nice if the Bucs returned to old fashioned blocking and tackling next Sunday, as well as simply playing to the strengths of the team and playing to win with urgency and hunger. And no, that does not include fake punts from your own 26 yard line in the second quarter.

Desperate Dirk should be fired for ineptness and I used to be a staunch supporter. Blow up his failed experiment, play Fitz and Griffen if necessary. DO NOT give America’s turnover machine the 20.9 million because we are going to need it next year. Go Bucs!

@JOE
Regardless, even if they would have gotten the PI call the YUCS would have found a way to fumble the snap from the 1yd line or run the wish bone only to get blown up by nickel corner. It’s a YUCS life!

Every NFL coach is out coaching Koetter
November 4th, 2018 at 10:30 pm
I think we had 7 seconds in that game…..we should have been able to get a pass to the endzone in 5 or 6 leaving another play…..no chance for that running.
November 4th, 2018 at 10:32 pm
They’re going to have either pay Winston 20 mil or bring in someone off the street for 15-20 mil, that’s just the going rate of the position. I’d rather see them pay Winston and see how he performs in a different system under a new coach. As long as they aren’t committing to anything long-rem 20 mil is nothing for 1 season.
November 4th, 2018 at 10:32 pm
Then on the other hand it would have been a flag on the Bucs for something.
November 4th, 2018 at 10:33 pm
Dirk Koetter is getting out coached by every NFL coach
November 4th, 2018 at 10:33 pm
Fake punts from your own end of the field should be left to good teams with sound fundamentals. Even then, it’s not cool proof. Koetter is no Doug Pederson.

Someone mentioned on an earlier post that we need a defensive minded head coach and I have to agree. Having a prolific offense is good and all but that’s not translating to success. Look at the bears. Their offense is mediocre at best but their defense consistently carries the team. We need to get back to bucs ball.
November 4th, 2018 at 10:35 pm
So?
November 4th, 2018 at 10:35 pm
@Joe Hello, we play to lose the game !!!
November 4th, 2018 at 10:41 pm
Listen, in the end this in reality is on the coaches and yes on Licht to. It’s as plain as that. Everyone can see it.
All the way from the inability to coach up Winston to even being wise enough to bring in Veteran help in the secondary. AND ALL IN BETWEEN! It’s been three plus years of the same results has it not? From Smith all the way back to the beginning. It’s all in black and white.
Come on….. There isn’t going to a miracle big enough after the possibility of a few AWESOME trade deadline moves that weren’t made. Nobodies trying to save their jobs from Lichts perspective and they SURE AS HELL aren’t trying to save mine noe your football season…..!
Seems to me that the idea of a President to over watch ALL aspects to the 3 ring circus is the most OBVIOUS and BRILLIANT idea in our case.
The Glazers don’t know how to do it but they should by now be wise enough to figure that one out. Now “THAT” is a Worthy investment!
How about a poll for and from the fans to the Glazers on that idea. Seems Derrick is just waiting to hear from somebody on the matter. How about Mr. Dungy?
How about a poll for the owners to give them an idea of how the fans would like the idea and for the rest of us to see how everyone feels about it as well.
A very LARGE piece is missing, IS IT NOT? Maybe that’s it….
GO BUCS!!!!!
November 4th, 2018 at 10:42 pm
@shutthebucup
They also have a running game which we lack…cohen/Howard > barber/rodgers/jones/winston/Fitzpatrick lol
November 4th, 2018 at 10:45 pm
As I have said many times I think the bucs have enough talent on this team to be at least a 10 games winner. I think they just need some good coaching . Watching teams like the Patriots and the Rams they are both well coached. Also as I have said many times, everyone was saying the QB with the Rams was a bust. Got rid of Jeff Fisher bring in McVay and you have a top notched QB
November 4th, 2018 at 10:47 pm
@Inspired I suggested earlier that Joe do a poll of the fans that want the Glazers to sell the team already and stop pretending like they know how to run a competitive American football team.
November 4th, 2018 at 10:51 pm
Dirk had to run that play because he can’t manage a game and ran out of time.
Just go back and look at the game situation we had on that drive. We had a drive ahead of us but we had ample time…….well ample time for a non-Dirk coached team. Fact is if you put Seattle in the same situation as our Falcons game they give themselves more then one play from the redzone. Not us, we get one play due to mismanagement.
November 4th, 2018 at 11:00 pm
I didn’t catch it earlier but It seems us silly fans may be thinking on the same wave length.
The truth is without an ownership that truly understands the ENTIRE working of the “football paradigm” then they need help. And maybe that’s what they expected from Licht…… PROBABLY is my guess.
Licht’s not qualified. And this program is in such disarray that WE NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP!!!
I doubt this year will be saved BUT I will hold out hope. I’m not going to expect a Successful season any longer this year BUT I WILL NOT LOSE HOPE. Now for NEXT SEASON………………… “President Of Operations!
How about a POLE for the Fans to vote on for FUN! Maybe it will be seen by the Owners. Maybe they just haven’t REALLY and SERIOUSLY considered it yet. Hell, maybe they just forgot? How about we remind them!
GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 4th, 2018 at 11:11 pm
Nice words inspired…,..I wish I could still hold out hope like you but alas I have given up.
I wish you luck in your hope my man and I will leave you with some encouraging words that I posted yesterday………..I said if we could have a 3-1 record in November we would be in good shape for the final stretch.
November 4th, 2018 at 11:12 pm
Reluctantly…….GOO BUCS!
November 4th, 2018 at 11:19 pm
I agree, when you have targets like OJ, Evans, Brate and Godwin you throw the ball, you don’t do a QB draw double lateral, it was a dumb play call.

Thats been happening for 3 years. Dirk isnt a hc. He will get outcoached every week he is here. Its not gona change now. Which is why we couldnt believe he wasnt fired last year. This team was never a team. The guy is literally Klueless
November 5th, 2018 at 1:34 am
Absolutely cannot get on board with that. I cannot stand second guessing play calling because something didn’t work. If they complete the lateral cleanly, touchdown, he’s a genius, brilliant call.
Whatever
November 5th, 2018 at 2:09 am
One play, Joe. Perhaps that play isn’t called if the defense was better or Jay-Miss didn’t throw two INTs.
November 5th, 2018 at 3:48 am
Agree with D-Rome Joe … it was just ONE PLAY. One or two ‘trick’ plays is NOT why the Bucs are 3-5 right now. They’re a soft, fundamentally-weak football team that’s not all that talented in most position groups … and one that’s not being very well coached on top of all that.
Could they ‘go on a tear’ and come away with wins against the Redskins, Giants & 49ers? Potentially yes, and a 3-game win streak like that COULD get us to 6-5 with 5 games to go. But then come the Panthers, Saints, Cowboys, Ravens & Falcons … all of whom are SIGNIFICANTLY better than our Bucs. With luck we close out the season at 6-10. Without lady luck, we end up at 3-13. In either event, it spells last place in the NFC South yet again … good enough to get Licht fired, Koetter & Company fired, and a bunch of players looking for a new home next year.
Personally wish that the Glazers would sell this team, but that’s highly unlikely. Next best thing though is for them to turn this franchise over to a highly-experienced President of Football Operations … like RIGHT NOW … then get the hell out of his way. Give him a 2-month window to evaluate this team, and decide who stays & who goes. By Super Bowl time (Feb 3rd) at the very latest he should have a workable plan in-place (next GM, next HC/OC/DC, etc). The FA period starts on Mar 13th & the draft happens on Apr 25-27 … somewhat tight schedule but about the same as they gave Greg Schiano when he was hired.
November 5th, 2018 at 8:48 am
The only problem with your argument Joe, is that the Seahawks failed to score from the 1. So in the end, what difference did it make?
November 5th, 2018 at 9:09 am
To be fair, the refs have been refusing to call pass interference in favor of the Bucs all year long. They’ve only gotten a couple of those calls. And it could have been called many times.
November 5th, 2018 at 10:24 am
I will once again try and put 2 cents in that makes since!!! “COACHING” !! I agree with the few that can see this is a badly coached team, with average talent, and some good potential talent if coaching was present.
Last time on this point! Cam Newton was vilified for a while for being a great looking talent potential QB that just needs work making better decisions and accuracy!! Does any of that sound familiar? In come Norv Turner and Cam is looking like MVP from 2015 !!!
November 5th, 2018 at 1:51 pm
This team can’t even execute a fake punt.
