Mixed Bag For Jameis

October 21st, 2018

Postgame W-munching is tasting awfully sweet right now for America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Overall, though, Jameis will be cringing more than usual when he watches the film of the Bucs’ victory later tonight.

As a franchise QB without a long term contract, Jameis will be scrutinized to extraordinary levels. Joe gets it.

The bar is high and it should be.

Jameis essentially was the Buccaneers’ running game today, with 10 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown. He ran very smart and with superior awareness. Peyton Barber got banged up and the rest of the run game wasn’t humming. Barber, Ronald Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers combined for a brutal 51 yards on 20 carries.

Keep in mind the Browns were allowing a whopping 4.6 yards per carry entering this game.

So Jameis was good there, but he missed on way too many passes today, finishing 32-for-52 for 365 yards, with no touchdowns and two ugly interceptions.

And he took a sack needlessly in overtime. That can’t happen and, frankly, Jameis did not look poised late in this game. Even Ronde Barber wagged a proverbial finger at Jameis on the FOX broadcast after Jameis didn’t throw that ball away.

Jameis’ fumble? Great play by the defense on the strip/sack, but if Jameis pulls the ball down there and eats a sack, we’re all talking about his exceptional pocket awareness and internal clock. Joe’s not blaming Jameis, just calling it straight.

Receivers losing 50-50 balls and drops hurt Jameis today, too.

Lotta ways to judge Jameis today. Joe’s going to go with a C+.

    As it always is…

  2. Dr. Lob Says:

We must move in from Winston, hes inaccurate with poor decision making. He will never be great.

  3. Ndog Says:

He had two games winning drives today I’ll take that but I’m sure that will be ignored.

  4. WalkdaPlank Says:

    No.1 overall pick

    4th year in the league

Is this what a franchise QB looks like?

  5. Danny Says:

Jameis doesn’t pass the eyeball test. Game looks too big for him at times. Need to see drastic improvement before the end if season, or it’s time to move on.

  6. NJBucsFan Says:

    We shouldn’t have to rely on WR’s always winning 50/50 balls. That’s why it’s called a 50/50 ball…need accuracy.

  7. Fartman Says:

    I don’t see how Fitzpatrick isn’t starting

  8. King C Says:

    Would you rather have Mariota

  9. SilverBuc Says:

Clutch game by #3 today, good win sir.

  10. mark2001 Says:

C plus for a franchise QB in his forth year, playing a weak opponent? Pretty generous Joe. The point is that this can’t continue, if he is to be our QB of the future. And that looks more and more unlikely.

  11. Destinjohnny Says:

    Let’s be real
Jameis is an above average back up
He just wasn’t born with the gifts
    Reaction time is slow
    Vision is questionable
    Accuracy is inconsistent.

  12. Pete I Says:

    C+

Joe grades with a curve I see.

    Winston sucks and always will.

Yeah he ate a win today, nom nom nom.

    Hope he gets indigestion.

    C+

  13. Rojas Says:

Winston connected with Djax for a TD, that Ward stripped out of Djax hands.

  14. WalkdaPlank Says:

    I’ll say it again

I think if Desean Jackson went to Jameis’ house and rang the doorbell, Winston would answer and wouldn’t know who the heck he is. Same with Koetter, Humphries returning punts?

  15. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

Being a JW fan, I must admit. Today was a typical JW game. So if he gets a C+, is he really a franchise qb worth 20 million + ?

    Joe Bucs Fan:
“Healthy franchise quarterback. Flat out loaded and hot at receiver and tight end. Healthy offensive line.”

    My response:

He had all this last year and he sucked. He is a turnover machine.
He is inaccurate, to anyone not named Brate, Evans, or Humphries.
He is too excitable which causes too many overthrown passes.
He will have a losing record this year. He will have a big hand in that record, literally and figuratively.
He will average 3 picks every two games.
He will average 1 fumble per game.
He will overthrow 3-5 passes per game.
He will never lead the Bucs to more than 2 TDs in the first half.
The offense under him will start slow and never score more than 30 points in a game.

  17. Dreambig Says:

I agree with the C+, quite the mixed bag. Cleavland’s Defense was playing really good but for another game Jameis is almost as much of a liability as he is a weapon. This game should not have been this close and blame goes around. Bad kicking again. If kickers are so easy to come by, why can this coaching staff not get it right. If the kicker would have made the extra point, he would not have needed the 4th qtr field goal. Speacial teams in kicking and kicking coverage was not good. Defense so bad, Smith had to be fired, special teams are not speacial. All of this mediocrity at some point lands at Koetters feet.

  18. SkBucsFan Says:

America’s ADHD Turnover machine was at his typical self today. I can’t blame the O-line. He had plenty of time most of the game. I can’t blame the receivers. Yes there were some bad drops, but they made up for it with some contortionist level catches. It all averages out. No…I blame the training staff. They should know that Ritalin wears off after 3 or 4 hours. We went into overtime and they obviously didn’t crack open the bottle and force Jameis to take a couple more. They need to keep that stuff on the sideline.

  19. Aceofaerospace Says:

Based on this article, Winston should be moved to running back and Fitz back at QB. Just don’t call any halfback passes.

  20. JP_09 Says:

Two bad INTs, clutch runs with no run game, 61% of passes completed, no
touchdowns passing, still continues to put his team in position to win. These browns held brees to 21 and tied the Steelers, a win is a win. Again Jamies got a WIN, if his stats don’t count win the Bucs lose, don’t look at them when the Bucs win, Oy thing that counts is th W, right?!

  21. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Anyone think Jameis called his own play on that last sack in OT?Koetter was hinting that in his press conference.

  22. ChicagoChris Says:

Been a buc fan my whole life and excited for the win even if it should not have been this close. I think we have to keep building around Jameis but today bothered me at the end….he didn’t look poised as Joe said and all of the offense looked like they didn’t have a plan or expect to win. Worrisome to be sure. To me teams are making adjustments to us and now we have to adjust back….we clearly didn’t adjust back to the man to man coverage and Jameis looked a bit rattled.

  23. EA Says:

I think we’ve seen enough of Jameis already, this is who he is.
Im afraid he will regress after he gets paid, perhaps this was the reason the ownership didn’t can Koetter last year … to clean house this year if things went south.

  24. mark2001 Says:

King… Mariota? Can’t say that. Actually would have liked to see a boatload of picks for some team trading up to Number 1 in the draft, and four or five other talented players on our team at O line and DB, and maybe a RB. But that is hind-site.

  25. Dapostman Says:

I would agree a C+. Browns defense is legit with pressure. Terrible 2nd interception and sack late in the game. 52 passes is way too many. Somehow somewhere this team needs to find some semblance of a real RB running game. Balsy to go for the 59 yarder.

  26. D-Rome Says:

James Winston: 5 TD, 6 INT, 0 Player of the Week awards.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: 11 TD, 5 INT, 2 Player of the Week awards.

  27. Anonymous Says:

We need L. Bell bad our running game sucks QB the leading rusher of game

  28. Brandon Short Says:

Mixed bag? He absolutely sucked. Even worse when it mattered most. Those last few throws and sacks taken were inexcusable. He played like crap and got very lucky to win the game.

  29. Dr. Lob Says:

    Puts Fitz in

  30. Dreambig Says:

I am good with seeing what Fitz can do. We know what we have with Jameis and he ceiling isnt high enough

  31. Ndog Says:

I love it, he has great stats we lose they say well he just doesn’t win. He has poor to average stats and we win they say he doesn’t pass the eyeball test. You haters are priceless. Like I said from day one you will never be happy.

  32. unbelievable Says:

I’d give him a C- today, and the overall offense would prob get the same. Maybe a D.

They are the reason today was a close game.

Every one of our stud receivers and tight ends had blatant drops.

The offensive line looks worse and worse. There’s some plays where they give Jameis all day (that sackin OT was inexcusable) but other times there’s free rushers gong wild.

    Run game still nonexistent.

Also gotta give Cleveland defense some probs. They got talent. They’re near the top of the league it turnovers and sacks.

Offense looked out of sync all day. Jameis looked good Early but was very errant later in the game.

Have to be better all around.

  33. TomL Says:

Think he was better than you may think when you really think about it.
The dude carried the entire offense on his back and got the team in position to hit game winning field goals….twice. Here is the thing, they had no running game. Dude how to sling the ball 52 times to pickup a very nice 365 yards AND was the leading runner. And Cleveland knew they were forced to throw the way it unfolded. So in the NFL, you have no running game and your QB throws 52 times, there are going to be some bad throws that get picked off. But he played his butt off. The stats are misleading because he had a no TD passes and instead many passes caught within 5 yards that were run in.

Anyone think Jameis called his own play on that last sack in OT?Koetter was hinting that in his press conference.

Three plays Jameis changed the call.
    1. The safety – watch cross explain the changed call to Barber.
    2. The strip sack fumble.
    3. The 1st down in overtime sack that Koetter mentioned.

He did have great awareness running the ball today. We won the game in the end. That was a great out throw to Jackson right before the field goal.

  37. Rob Says:

C+? He’s consistently high and behind in his passes. You can forget anything over 20 yards when you have to hit someone in stride. His decision making is sub par even for a college player, and “turn over” may as well be his middle name. With the weapons on this offense, he’s been exposed for what he is: okay (at best).

  38. Resurrection of Duff Says:

America”s Quarterback should be changed to 4th Year Quarterback Jameis Winston!!!!!!! No more fairytales Joe.

Some people need to face reality to get a clear view of the moment.

Rookie mistakes on a 4th year qb is not worth 21 mil.

Is this team a reflection of their coach?

    2018 Bucs …….BIZARRE

  39. Trench War Says:

    C+ = average

  40. BrianBucs Says:

With Winston, you will get a whole lot of good mixed with a whole lot of bad. He will win you some games and he will cost you some games.
3 turnovers today. In a 16 game season that is 48.
    Franchise QB? NOPE

  41. firethecannons Says:

I would say Joe is right, so many times Jameis ran for a first down and was way careful, the Browns are turnover machines and it is not his fault that Myles Garret strip sacked him–look at #76 for that honor. Jameis was good all game even when defense cooled off. Jameis did throw a couple picks but Browns have an awesome defense.

  42. DBS Says:

And then there was the usual fumble center snap. He was lucky he got it back .

  43. SilverBuc Says:

Jameis and the Bucs ate that W today!!!!

  44. Ndog Says:

    Drome Fitz record .500, Jameis’s record .500.

  45. D-Rome Says:

Here’s the thing: After 4 years no one had questions about Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Favre, Marino, Elway, ect…

After 4 years we still have the same questions about Jameis.

    He’s not a franchise QB.

  46. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Dude is a lock for 2 INTs per game. Is that a franchise QB? How many INTs did Baker throw today?
Jameis runs like a giraffe that was just born. He fumbles. He was the number 1 freaking pick in the draft! Does he play like that in his 4th year? Hell no! Is he getting any better from year 1, 2, 3 and 4? Hell no! Most of his throws, that don’t sail over the receivers’ heads, are 50/50 balls. He can’t ever hit a receiver in stride. He is an average QB in this league. He will never be elite. There is no way you give him a 2nd contract.
    SUCK FOR TUA IN 2020!

  47. Ndog Says:

Drome who has questions, I don’t people who know football just can’t help those that dont. Sorry sir.

  48. TiredBucFan Says:

Another failed Gm and coaching staff in Tampa. Jameis will never be a great QB however if he has a ground game he can be very good and a franchise QB. 52 pass attempts in a game in which you hold a nice lead is unacceptable. This regime has proven they can’t get it done either. Though it pains me I’m ready to move on.

  49. firethecannons Says:

Jameis NEVER gave up–kid is a warrior!!!!!!!!!!

  50. Resurrection of Duff Says:

4th Year Quarterback Jameis Winston is no longer playing in college. Unfortunately he thinks he is still there.

Wake up call for the Glazers.

    Time to reboot!!!!

  51. Bucobrews Says:

Was a so so game. He made some big plays and dome he would like to have back. He put us in position to loose and ultimately win. C+ is dead on. We are 3-3. JW is my qb

  52. Dapostman Says:

Drew Brees has 7 points at the half today and why doesn’t he have 20? Maybe the other team has some good players too.

Ndog, the haters will always be here. It’s fun to watch the Winston Derangement Syndrome simpletons.

  53. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This Offense is completely injury free…..has everyone healthy…

    The Defense has lost:
    Kwon
    Hargreaves
    Beckwith
    GMC
    Curry
    Conte

D played well and kept us in the game with backups.

Offense is totally inconsistent and doesn’t protect the ball.
We have absolutely no run blocking in particular on first down and in the red zone.

  54. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Call me old fashion but Jameis shouldn’t be calling his own plays and disrespecting the coaching staff. Im starting to think ownership tells this coaching staff who starts at QB. Dirk doesn’t strike me as the type of guy that would put up with that BS.

  55. firethecannons Says:

Heh alvin you suck–go away this website is for people with intelligent talk

  56. Brandon Short Says:

It irks me that Joe gave Tom Winston a C+ when he clearly had no better than a D+ game. Yes, Tom (Turn Over Machine) was horrid. He got the undeserved win. He was terrible and stupid when it mattered most.

  57. johnnybuc Says:

has to play better. first int not huge deal fumble is on d smith but can’t have the bad play down the stretch in ot. turnover in overtime is inexcusable and taking those sacks were just plain dumb. especially after how well he had done at avoiding pressure all game. i will say that final drive before OT jameis conducted was perfect and if it wasn’t for a scared playcaller and a terrible kicker none of what i said previously would even happen. but overall on the game the whole offense just wasn’t good enough. simple

  58. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Firethecannons, I can tell you are a bright guy (sarcasm) – go look up that word and improve your vocabulary.

  59. Trench War Says:

We won …that’s all that matters this week, now we must be more efficient with the Bengals. We need all of our possessions to count. Don’t leave points on the field.

  60. SilverBuc Says:

All that will be remembered about today’s game is that #1 overall pick Jameis overcame adversity and gutted out a W against #1 overall pick mayfields.

  61. Dewey Selmon Says:

Jameis is a matador in the pocket. You have to give him that.

  62. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Not a great game by any means from Jameis. But holy crap were there a lot of drops by receivers and pressures given up by the O-line.

  63. Jean Lafitte Says:

Drew Brees has 7 points at the half today and why doesn’t he have 20?
    ___________________________________________

at least he has 7 so far against the best defense in the AFC.
I bet the Bucs would probably be scoreless and 4 scores behind

  64. Seanbassak Says:

Any of you goons wanting to move on from Jameis after this year please do inform me what your plan would be. Have you taken a look at this upcoming QB draft? Because it’s hot garbage and it just got worse with the news that Herbert is probably going back to Oregon. Drew Lock? Kill me. Will Grier? You won’t have to kill me, I’ll choke on my own vomit after Goodell announces the pick. Not to mention if we go 6-10 or better we won’t be picking high enough to take one of these scrubs anyways. Should we replace Jameis with a FA? LOLOLOLOLOLOL that’s a good one. There’s no Kirk Cousins that’s gonna be out there. Jameis had his ups and down today but he also was under pressure constantly and gave this team a couple chances to win that we blew. Jameis is what we’ve got for at least this season and next. Just get used to it.

  65. Gambelero Says:

We had 34 first down to 17, 88 plays to 62, 465 yards to 305, 6 for 13 and one for one on fourth down to 3-14 and 0-2, but 4-1 tournovers and two mixed kicks almost lost us the game.

  66. ChipBuc Says:

Why don’t all you Winston haters just give it a rest. Bottom line he drove them down the field at the end of regulation and gave the field goal kicker a easy kick to win in regulation. But as in countless other games the field goal kicker missed, and another great game wining drive was spoiled. Haters are just going to hate.

  67. Destinjohnny Says:

    If jameis is our qb
    It’s a waste to have D Jack
    Let’s move him

  68. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jay Miss had his usual game: 2 interceptions and a lost fumble, not to mention other fumbles and tons of 50/50 balls. #SuckforTuain2020

  69. Rick Says:

EA said it best I think.

  70. SilverBuc Says:

Spot on ChipBuc, Jameis drove the team in position to win TWICE. That W tastes so good this wonderful evening!

  71. Buc68 Says:

Winston not very good today. If you look at the numbers QBs have not been very good against them overall. The Browns have had major issues in there rush defense. Obviously we didn’t exploit that.

  72. Greg Says:

Joe considers 2 interceptions and a fumble and no touchdowns a mixed bag? Again Jameis cant hit Jackson or any other receiver until they come back to him facing him. Jameis sucks and hes in his 4th year.

He gave up 2 sacks instead of getting rid of the ball taking us out of field goal range.

What does he have to do before Joe realizes hes not good. A mixed bag? Please Joe.

  73. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Really? Are you impressed with his OT drive? He got sacked twice and only a freaking Hail Mary kick won the game. It had nothing to do with Jay Miss. In fact, he tried his best to lose that game in OT. He threw a God awful interception, that should have cost us the game. The defense stood proud at that moment, forcing a punt.

  74. SilverBuc Says:

Jameis Supermaned that touchdown on that run, that was so awesome!!

  75. Court Says:

It’s so obvious in these comments that alot of Bucs fans are also Gator fans that just don’t want Jameis to do well. He rushed for more yards than his three QBs combined. His interception and sack in overtime came when the game should have been over. Forget the missed feild goal to end regulation, if our kicker didn’t miss an extra point the game doesn’t even go to overtime. People are complaining he threw two ints, but ignoring he threw the ball 51 times.

  76. lurker Says:

average qb as our starter then, huh. he is regressing, not progressing

  77. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Alvin

You are straight up mentally challenged if you’re blaming those 2 sacks on Jameis and unwilling to give him credit for getting back into field goal range.

Also NONE OF WHAT HAPPENED IN OVER TIME WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE DAMN KICKER MADE AN EASY KICK TO WIN THE GAME AFTER A PERFECT METHODICAL DRIVE!

  78. SilverBuc Says:

Hit the damn easy FG and people aren’t b/tech/ng, smh.

  79. lurker Says:

    lmao
blame the kicker for jameis’ crappy play.
    smh

  80. John B Says:

Not a franchise QB game at all, missed so many throws, bad picks – under pressure all day, Oline is horrible when 77 is in – he is so so so so so baddddddd

Watch the tape and count how many times the turnstile got turned – he does t deserve to be in the league much less starting

JW got progressively worse as the game went on as the Oline crumbled

My 72 year old Mom noticed the bad body language from JW late in the game – 10 games left on the interview – failed today

  81. SilverBuc Says:

The kicker was awesome tonight, amirite? Smh

  82. Wesley Says:

C+ is fair, he was pretty awful in the second half. Also dropped balls didn’t help. But if dude can’t throw the deep ball I’m just not sure he’s our future q.b..I’m beginning to lose faith.

  83. Troy Says:

C+ doesn’t win very often in this league. Jameis is the most frustrating qb I’ve ever seen. Makes some really great plays, then other times, makes the simplest execution look impossible. I don’t see how that is going to change and I don’t see how you can win consistently with a player like that as your starting qb.

  84. BrianBucs Says:

Fitz actually runs this offensive scheme much better than Winston.
Even though he’s a rookie and still learning, I would much rather have Mayfield in pewter and red that Winston. Kid is a winner with huge upside. After he has been in the league 4 years like Winston has, he will be much better than Winston is now

  85. Buc4life Says:

Did anyone see Cleveland’s defense? Their defensive line killed Jameis and shut down our running. Outside of the turnover and sack in OT Jameis played pretty good. He ran when he needed to and helped this team win

  86. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lurker

But he had a perfect drive to get the kicker in position to make an easy kick to win the game. That’s literally text book. How can you not blame the kicker for A. Missing another extra point and B. Missing a chip shot 40 yarder to end the game.

He didn’t have a good game those 3 picks were ugly as ugly can get., but I counted at least 5 drops today including a dropped TD by Djax and a Dropped 1st down a piece by Mike and OJ. One more thing, how is Smith getting waxed by Garrett in 1.5 seconds Jameis fault?

  87. Crazed Bucs Fan Says:

Was it pretty? No! But damn we won!!!! On to next week.

  88. James Walker Says:

If Mike Glennon was worth 19 million then Jameis is worth 20 million.

  89. Wesley Says:

Oh and our o-line cannot run block, it wasnt Doug’s fault Joe.

  90. Buc4life7878 Says:

Always good for at least 2 turnovers a game. Time to move on after this year.

  91. Destinjohnny Says:

    Jameis is a back up.
    Let’s draft defense next year
Then sell the farm to get tua

  92. Ted Kamensky Says:

Talk about beating a dead horse. “Inaccurate, always overthrows his receivers, can’t hit the deep ball.” “It’s a liberal mob!!!” All I hear is the same parroted hyperbole. I get the sense that most of the people on here aren’t actual Bucs fans, they just watch FOX 24/7 and then the Bucs happen to be playing. Like others have said, if we lose, stats don’t matter. If we win, …look at all the mistakes he made. Last week people were crediting him with INT’s he didn’t throw. It gets really old. Jameis did not have his best game today. But he led the offense. He made some costly mistakes, but he also made some phenomenal plays. And; I know that it’s easy to ignore when you’re so biased; he had very little run game behind him, the o-line got thrown around by a strong Browns front 7, and there were some untimely drops by OJ, Evans, DeSean (for a TD). Jameis was our offense today. He should not be asked to throw the ball 51 times, period. But instead of highlighting the positives of a tough win, let’s all bask in the negative. That’s the way of the “true” Bucs fans. Jameis is joke…? So says the experts with all of their airchair observations & analysis. This “fan base” is the real joke. A win is a win. And you can thank Jameis (as much as anyone else) for that.

  93. lurker Says:

i loved jameis when we first drafted him. thought he was our savior.
but he is what he is, and we deserve/need better.

jameis should be playing way better at this point in his career.

the kicker missing does not excuse his mistakes. the receivers had drops but did bail him out plenty, too, as usual. he throws too high, still, and rarely hits them in stride, and is generally inaccurate on deep passes.

i’ll state it again: jameis should be playing way better at this point in his career.

  94. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Willie nailed it with his post!!!

All you JW fanboys, yet the numbers are dwindling..lol…are just to stooped to really see how bad he is as a QB!

I hate Florida state fans even more and more each day with these comments praising his playing..

If Fitz would have been in, we would have won the game by the first half..we won have scored at least 40 points!!!

  95. LifeOfABucFan Says:

And I did spell stooped just in case the censors gets me for actually spelling stupid..

  96. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Really dont understand the logic around here. The dude plays extremely well but loses last week. “Doesn’t matter how good he played we lost the game!”

Jameis has a rough game this week but still does enough to win the game. “He had a bad game and he sucks!”

  97. JWBUCS Says:

Jameis is No Way Worth 20.8 million dollars in 2019…. I strongly feel after the evidence of throwing accuracy displayed in the Pre-Season games, it is time to give Back-up QB Ryan Griffin some serious playing time during the remaining games of 2018…. We may be sitting on our future Quarterback, held on the Bucs staff and never examined first hand how he performs during an actual NFL Game.

I know that if we relieve the Bucs Budget of 20.8 million for Jameis 5th year in the league we will be in great shape to sign our developing players that were drafted 3 and 4 years ago.

  98. lurker Says:

and kamensky is a silly, little man, too.
    smh

  99. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    Schwifty,

You can’t simply play a game of “what if.” What if the Bucs don’t make a goal line stand? What if Hump fair catches that first punt? What if Catanzaro doesn’t miss that first extra point? What if the Browns don’t commit tons of stupid penalties?
Do you really believe Jay Miss deserves much credit for the OT “drive” that resulted in a 59 yard field goal? If so, you are delusional, my friend.

  100. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Well said Ted. These people either don’t watch the games like you said, or the do and just don’t understand football and the way things are supposed to work.

  101. Greg Says:

Hey Joe! When the neighborhood kids leave a brown paper bag on your doorstep and its on fire… do you consider it a mixed bag?

  102. Crazed Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs fans want to win games, they just don’t want Jameis to have anything to do with it.

  103. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Alivin

Absolutely I do. Because he made the throw that got them into range again after getting blasted on the 2 previous plays because the O-line got worse and worse as the game went on.

Kickers are paid to made kicks dude. Missing an extra point and a gimme 40 yarder to seal the game is unacceptable.

  104. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

destin johnny, prolly wont have to sell farm this team as currently built this year is 6-10 and 2019 will be same bucs will 2020 vision for Tua

  105. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @JWBUCS

So you are willing to give Ryan Griffen credit for his work in the preseason against nobodies, but unwilling to give Jameis Winston credit for leading the league in completion percentage and passer rating during the preseason against 1st and 2nd teamers?

Go take a hike ya loon.

  106. SchwiftyBuc Says:

These fools are really on here pining for a damn Alabama QB. Don’t you know that none of those guys do anything in the NFL?

    Jameis is going no where.

  107. BrianBucs Says:

    Lurker

Agreed. And also remember that Winston has arguably the best group of pass catchers in the league.
Like you, I m disappointed that he is not playing any better than he is now.
I just don’t see him ever being a championship winning franchise QB.
Bucs should cut their losses with Winston and move on

  108. lurker Says:

the bucs just roll with winston this year to see if he improves, unless it gets worse.

then pick up his option year or draft a qb, or both.

  109. SilverBuc Says:

It feels so good tonight that the team won, the TEAM including Jameis won, and his haters are crying so hard. Hell yeah!! *dancing a jig* 😀

  110. Ted Kamensky Says:

Catanzaro bailed himself out. If he doesn’t miss his 3rd extra point of the season, the game would’ve likely been over before his miss (from a very manageable 40 yards) to end regulation. The 59 yard bomb was satisfying, but it was a prayer. How many missed kicks from Jameis?

  111. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Well, we’ll all have an opportunity to see what Jay Miss does next week. I’m guaranteeing at least two TOs. That’s Jay Miss! Though we all agree Jay Miss has an incredible group of receivers.
However, maybe he’ll prove me wrong. Clearly, I’m not going to defend the kicker, but that doesn’t excuse Jay Miss’s really stupid interception in overtime.
The Browns have not won a road game in 3 years. They should have won today. Jay Miss is going to lead this team to nowhere. I guess if you would be thrilled with an 8-8 season at some point (not this year), then Jay Miss is your guy.

  112. Ted Kamensky Says:

So says a guy who calls himself “lurker.” Creepy name, douchebag

  113. Destinjohnny Says:

    Let’s start planning for tua
    https://youtu.be/nMw1FcmLay0

  114. Vivian Says:

You can’t expect for there to be no interceptions or sack fumbles if your qb throws 52 TIMES. No run game and poor OL. 52 times is not sustainable in a game and expect perfection.

  115. BrianBucs Says:

If the Bucs first priority was having a winning season instead of trying to promote Winston, then Fitz would be starting. He runs this particular offensive scheme much better than Winston

  116. Ted Kamensky Says:

What, I can’t call lurker a douchebag when he so clearly is? Not fair, Joe.

  117. Gobucs Says:

    @scwifty

Yea I’m blaming on of those sacks in OT on him because dirk said he didn’t run the play that was called.

So who’s fault was that you dumb stupid moron?

Winston’s fault. Dirk flat out said he didn’t run the play that was called and took a sack as result. So stfu you uninformed nut hugging idiot.

  118. Gobucs Says:

And if anyone isn’t blaming Winston for the turnovers and picks then don’t blame the receivers for a few drops.

    Hypocrites.

  119. Gobucs Says:

With all those weapons this game shouldn’t be close.

But you stupid nut huggers are too blind and will blame everything he does on someone else.

  120. Destinjohnny Says:

Jameis on deep balls reminds me of Rudy Stein

  121. SilverBuc Says:

We should trade DJax straight up for Dalvin Cook, at least Dalvin gives 100% effort.

  122. Lucious Selmon Says:

    D-Rome Says:
“James Winston: 5 TD, 6 INT, 0 Player of the Week awards.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: 11 TD, 5 INT, 2 Player of the Week awards.”

I like Winston and want him to succeed. You cannot, however, ignore the above.

  123. Lucious Selmon Says:

    D-Rome Says:
James Winston: 5 TD, 6 INT, 0 Player of the Week awards.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: 11 TD, 5 INT, 2 Player of the Week awards.
    ————————

All Jameis fanbois were saying, “Give JW a chance to work with this O line and play caller, and Jameis will easily surpass the old career backup.”

    Well, we’ve done that.

  124. SilverBuc Says:

Fitztragic threw THREE INTERCEPTIONS on 3 straight passes, including a PICK SIX. Facts.

  125. Loyaltotheend Says:

10 quarters from the so called franchise qb and he has

    6 total TD’s
    6 INT’s
    3 Fumbles

Let him earn the franchise label, his play doesn’t back that label up

  126. SilverBuc Says:

Fitztragic has 0 TDs in 10 quarters. #benchedforbadplay

  127. D the Bucs fan Says:

Man y’all act like we drafted Jamarcus Russell. When the bucs play decent defense We win. We finally held a team under 30 points. Yay bucs fans we won!

  128. DNI Says:

All I have to say is told you so.

  129. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Sigh… can we have Fitz back please?

  130. SilverBuc Says:

Yeah let’s have Fitz throw another winnable game away in 3 plays, smh

  131. Ed Says:

After 4 seasons I have not seen the mechanics straightened out in his throwing motion. The release of the ball is the problem, it comes out just a tick slower than better than average QB’s. Timing is another issue that affects his deep balls. Receivers are jumping for balls, stretching out (see Chris Godwins) into big hits and slowing down because of the timing issue, ball isn’t on time to where its supposed to be.

Winston is a one pitch pony, the straight ball to the target area gets there fast and he does get it there on a dime, he can throw into tight windows. Wide receivers are more comfortable running to areas and being able to run to the ball or if they have to stop, the ball should come lower so they don’t get blasted.

As a veteran quarterback Jameis doesn’t adapt to situations. Yesterday his running kept drives alive, I give him credit for that as those were the correct reads but in the pocket, there were 3 or 4 situations where he had ample time to get the ball downfield and badly missed.

Barring a complete turnaround from the last 2 games, I think its pretty obvious that Jameis isn’t the future here, he’s good enough to get 5-7 wins on a team that a better than average QB would get 7-9 wins with.

  132. Bradinator Says:

No way can we give this guy 20 million next year. He’s a decent QB, but not a franchise one. The teams that win year in, year out, have Franchise QBs. We don’t. Great between the 20s, clueless in the red zone. He holds the ball far too long, CANNOT hit the long ball, and STILL stares receivers down. Be honest, going into OT yesterday how far down your list would you rather have, compared to other starting QBs in the NFL would Jameis be? Every other QB in our division, for starters, would be ahead of him. Every QB in the NFC North with the exception of Trubisky (maybe?) NFC West? Goff and Wilson for sure, Garropolo maybe, Rosen is a rook, NFC east? Wentz, and Alex Smith, borderline Manning and Prescott. 16 starters and Jamies would be like 12th in our conference. That is just not a winner folks. Not good enough.
