Stats For Fitzpatrick, Jackson And Evans The Week After They Have Big Games

September 14th, 2018

History is comforting Philly fans

Apparently in an effort to convince Eagles fans the Bucs can’t repeat Sunday what they just did in New Orleans, a longtime Eagles beat writer executed a deep dive into stats of the Bucs’ top performers.

Writing for Philly sports radio station WIP, Eliot Shorr-Parks, believes Mike Evans, Ryan Fitzpatrick and DeSean Jackson are primed for a letdown this week, Fitzpatrick especially.

Shorr-Parks looked at 20 Fitzpatrick “big games” when he had massive aerial success. In games immediately following those, Fitzpatrick was below overage overall.

Games with three-plus touchdowns: 17
Record the next week: Team is 6-11 overall
Next week averages: 1.8 touchdowns and 1.07 interceptions

Games with four-plus touchdowns: 7
Record the next week: 3-3
Next week averages: 1 touchdown and 0.7 interceptions

Shorr-Parks went on to reveal that Mike Evans only follows up a 100-plus yard game with another one about 30 percent of the time, and Jackson is at 25 percent. Both had over 140 yards receiving in New Orleans.

Joe shares this because it reflects the loud trumpeting across the country: “This is what Fitz does. He’ll tank it very soon in bad way!” The writer here just took it to another level with meaningless numbers on Jackson and Evans.

Joe is confident the Bucs can score more than 20 points on the Eagles. The offense is humming and healthy and home. Now the Bucs’ defense, well, we’ll see what they’re made of soon.

Akin to saying the Buccs have never been good in weather under 40 for the NFL title games vs Philly

  2. BringBucsBack Says:

Last weeks performance was so high that we can certainly expect a bit of a letdown. Let’s just hope it’s not a 35 point letdown. Keep it up men beat those birds!

  3. feelthepewterpower Says:

    Nfc title game, rather

  4. BucNole Says:

a letdown would be almost normal for a team not used to winning. . . Unless the coaches and team captains can get everyone settled down and back to work like its next game up. This is where Fitz can be a real leader in just not getting too high over a good game. . . 15 more to go

  5. SoFloBuc Says:

Well then it may be a good day for Godwin, Howard, Brate, and Humphries. I don’t think the run game will be as good as we would like against them This will be all about the defense. Go Buks!!

  6. Casey Morgan Says:

Everyone I talk with, even big Buc fans, say “Fitz will have a bad game this week. He is inconsistent, etc.” I reference your article yesterday Joe where he says he is still getting better every day. And most of those let down games in the past were with teams that had no receivers. FitzMagic lives on!

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

Fitz has never has these weapons before. Not saying he will repeat last weeks performance, but I don’t think he sheets the bed. Go Bucs!

All the gripping over the tough start to our schedule when in this case it might be a really good thing.

Historically we’ve come out and won an opening game and everybody is on the bandwagon and the praise starts hitting and it goes to the team’s head.

I simply do not see this for Sunday’s game. Even if the Bucs do believe they’re that good they realize they are taking on the defending NFL Champs. The Bucs may believe in their offense but they are well aware that the Eagles have a great defense.

And the entire world realizes we are without our two best CB’s…our #1 draft pick…another DL we signed in the off season…we have a LOT of questions on defense. I don’t think our team will come to RayJay overconfident.

  11. On the rise Says:

If Fitz can avoid the ‘dumb’ plays, the Bucs have a real shot at going 2-0.

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

If that’s the case then I’d imagine we’ll be seeing some combo of OJ / Brate / Godwin/ Barber going off then

    Mike Evans
    Chris Godwin
    Desean Jackson
    Adam Humphries
Justin Watson (future stud when given more chance)
    OJ Howard
    Cameron Brate

7 legit reliable targets with like 4-5 of them having probowl potential

If our O-line holds down the fort and we call any sort of decent gameplan how the f*ck do you defend that? Is this real?

    GO BUCS!

if i was a DE…my fantasy would be to get under that helmet and grab ole fitzie by a chunk of lumber beard and yank him to the ground…

what’s the worst that could happen?,,,he doesn’t go down and you have a chunk of hair pie in your hand and fitzie has a lot of explaining to do at the podium post game press conference

I see 9 games Fitz was part of the winning team

I’ll wait for the game to be played before I let doubt creep in. Looking for sweltering droopy eagle feathers.

  17. Darin Says:

Its gona be a tough one. The Eagles have a heck of a staff and have had 9 days to prepare. I hope Smitty presses the corners this week because I know theyre gona be looking for quick passes. The fans and the heat need to play big roles this week. Get out there boys.

  18. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

I just hope I can last the first quarter in the 90+ degree weather…lol.

I don’t see how the players can do it!

  19. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Darin, I disagree with your take. They may have had more time, but they couldn’t have prepared for what we did on Sunday until we did it. I might even say that the Bucs have the preparation advantage, since Philly played their game first. All of the stat and game formations film cutup work that the “interns” do to help the coaches should have been done before we even played our first game.
