“Now He Is Going To Have To Row Himself Out.”
September 6th, 2018Former Bucs wide receivers coach and current University of Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck coined a phrase when he left Tampa Bay and took over Western Michigan.
“Row the Boat.” It’s sort of like Chucky’s “Pound the Rock.”
It seems, Peter King wants America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to follow Fleck’s orders.
According to King, the L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training, social activist star of NBC Sports fame, Jameis is going to have to do some rowing to resuscitate his career.
King seemed to hint it is more than a fading idea that the Bucs may move on from Jameis when he returns from the three-game suspension handed down by NFL strongman Roger Goodell.
Appearing on “Mad Dog Unleashed,” hosted by the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM fame Tuesday, King was asked about the news Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht made last week when he said he cannot guarantee Jameis returns as a starter when the Bucs play at Chicago later this month.
“Nor should there be [a guarantee]!” King blurted out. “What if they are 3-0 — which they won’t be? But what if they are 3-0? What if the guy comes back and Fitzpatrick is playing pretty good? I wouldn’t make a change either. Jameis Winston put himself in this boat. And now he is going to have to row himself out.”
Joe will only respond to this with the words of Bucs tight end Cam Brate this summer on SiriusXM NFL Radio, when he said about this subject, “Jameis is a starting quarterback for a reason.”
Russo quickly shifted the conversation to Bucs coach Dirk Koetter. Russo thinks Koetter’s seat is not hot, it’s roasting on a diner flattop griddle right next to the pancakes, eggs and bacon.
“Dirk Koetter, I think — look, I think if Jon Gruden wanted the Tampa job, Jon Gruden would be the coach there and Koetter wouldn’t be,” King said. “But I just don’t think Jon Gruden wanted to replay his time in Tampa.”
King’s cherry on top of the whipping cream of depressing if not aggravating Bucs chatter was saying that if he was laying cash, he would most certainly take the under-6.5 on a season-win total for the Bucs.

Once again, why would the Bucs tip their hand as to who will start week 4 in Chicago when they don’t have to? Let the Bears prepare for both during that week.
#Get After It!
September 6th, 2018 at 10:15 am
It’s ridiculous to me that people honestly think that Winston won’t be the start come week 4.. Fitzpatrick isn’t a starter in this league he’s show that over and over again time after time,
September 6th, 2018 at 10:16 am
No if the glazers wanted to pay him close to what Oakland did he would be here. We’re not as dumb as Davis.
I wanted gruden but I couldn’t be happier we didn’t get him now. Dude is going to butcher that team. Watch.
I also don’t think koetters seat is that hot. He’ll need Jameis to tank and a 7 win or less season to be gone. I think he does better than that.
September 6th, 2018 at 10:31 am
Peter King is speculating on the wave of other uninformed journalists who simply think the Bucs suck and Jameis is penitentiary-worthy.
Licht and Koetter aren’t going to guarantee anything because nothing should be guaranteed.
September 6th, 2018 at 10:37 am
You no longer need sources to spout out stupid comments you can visit a team for 2 days the entire off-season then talk like your an expert on a team. His opinion is most irrelevant of any national media. Hard to call out people when it doesn’t matter whether they were right or long especially since they pretend to always be right
September 6th, 2018 at 10:37 am
PJ Fleck would be a very interesting next HC for the bucs, I think they should go with either Todd Haley or Jim Schwartz as HC and if its schwartz get an OC on the sean mcvay tree or even day from OSU who was up for some NFL asst jobs…..GO BUCS, nothing like being a bucs fan and having high hopes in the OFF season
September 6th, 2018 at 10:37 am
Thanks Jameis!!! This is all on you.

Joe
Here’s a thought – since Winston is suspended and basicall not a part of this team for the first 3 or possibly 4 weeks, how about no more Winston posts until he returns. We should all do what the Bucs themselves are doing and that is to concentrate on the players that weren’t stupid enough to get themselves suspended and let their team down and are actually there now. Please spare us the useless Winston dribble until he is actually a participating member of this team again and keep us updated on the happenings of the actual roster. Thanks

Exactly, nothing more to see here folks – move along. . .
September 6th, 2018 at 10:42 am
Stupid takes by King & co…
We are loaded with far too much talent, combined with the drive and dedication to be Great…
We will win at least 10 games in the regular season. Minimum.
September 6th, 2018 at 10:45 am
I love how all of these people say we are going to be horrible but yet never explain why. It is because we got so much worse in the off season by losing the likes of Robert Ayers, William Goldston (benched not lost), Chris Baker, Chris McDonald, Keith Tandy, Robert McClain, Kevin Phampile, JR Sweezy, Nick Folk and Doug Martin. Yeah that must be it all of those guys were so awesome and that has to be it because wasn’t everyone picking us to be good last year when we had and were starting all/most of those players?
#they have no clue about this team cause they don’t pay attention

Breaking News : National media guy doesn’t like Jameis Winston…
Shocker.
Go Bucs!
September 6th, 2018 at 10:50 am
The premise that a failed journeyman like Fitz is going to suddenly come to life vs Saints, Eagles and Steelers is dubious at best.
Hope he does well but it is highly unlikely. His body of work is well below average and his most recent attempt at starting QB in Jet land ended badly.
September 6th, 2018 at 10:52 am
BrianBucs…here’s a thought…you could just skip over the JW articles….
But you can’t……can you Brian?
If Joe did that…Brian would have nothing to comment about!

Someone bookmark all these dimwit national media guys who are naysayers so we can call them out later.

Peter King and mad dog are both haters and they can lick sweaty balls for all I care. Jameis and the Bucs are going to surprise the s*** out of everybody .Mark it!
September 6th, 2018 at 11:14 am
I think the very talented offense will fully support Fitz for the 3 game run, and they will do well.
Is Fitz at 35 the future of this franchise? No.
Is Jameis with all of his immature foibles the future. Absolutely.
Jameis is the best QB this team has ever had.
I predict the future All Pro, MVP of the NFL, Ring of Honor, and Hall of Fame honors for him.
I will also predict a giant statue of JW on Dale Mabry Highway, similar to the Tim Tebow statue outside of Florida Field in Gainesville.

September 6th, 2018 at 11:25 am
Just read a prediction of the bucs being the 19th ranked team but said Winston was a lone bright spot last year. Finally someone gets it
September 6th, 2018 at 11:27 am
Every year Peter King becomes simultaneously more irrelevant and more the official mouth-piece of the NFL, like the head of a state-run media company. I hope to go the rest of my life without hearing another review of the North Dallas Marriot or his thoughts on a Sam Adams Season Ale.
September 6th, 2018 at 11:29 am
We won’t be 3-0 and Jameis WILL be back to try to bail out this inept staff Licht being the first IMO… I have a great idea. I think the Bucs should try to trade for Levon Bell who appears to be persona non gratta in Pitts now. It would REALLY create some excitement and true danger at the RB position since it appears Jones will be a flop.
September 6th, 2018 at 11:37 am
Yes UNBELIEVABLE it is!

Fitzpatrick was the least effective of the three QBs in the preseason games. I believe he should be the backup until Jameis returns. The talking heads were wrong last year about the Bucs last year, and I believe they are wrong now. The Bucs will shock everyone and at the very least be a wildcard team.

These same dimwit media ppl had the bucs as their surprise team last year sooooooooo
September 6th, 2018 at 12:14 pm
I just read this morning JW had a fender bender and was charged with the accident, careless driving or something like that.

September 6th, 2018 at 12:24 pm
@sparky: preseason is practice with refs dummy. And to just think, two years from now JW will thought of at the same level as Shaun King……mediocre at best. JameisNOT is out of here snowflakes. I wonder where you will post when he is gone.
September 6th, 2018 at 12:29 pm
If you’re 0-3 or 1-2 Winston is playing. You think this coaching staff wants to start 0-4 or 1-3in a year they’re trying to save their jobs? No. They’ll put the best 11 out there. And that means Fitz sits. You can explain “yea we lost with Winston’s first game back…” it’s tougher to explain why your franchise guy is sitting when you lose.
September 6th, 2018 at 12:29 pm
@walter: spot on.
September 6th, 2018 at 12:33 pm
One trick pony yeah that was in February. I also heard this morning that he allegedly groped an Uber driver. And I also heard this morning that a girl named Erika filed a civil law suit against him. Busy morning for jameis
September 6th, 2018 at 12:43 pm
I love the Bucs, so that makes me really biased, but even I can’t definitively say we will have a winning record. I just don’t know because last year even I believed all the hype and drank the Kool-Aid and was let down pretty damn hard. To the point where I was looking for a scapegoat and Jameis was in my crosshairs. I think King is right, Jameis will have to play exceptional football in the 13 weeks, (maybe 12) he has left if he wants to continue in Tampa.
September 6th, 2018 at 12:43 pm
Fitz has to have great protection , when a pocket is pushed to him he is really really bad. He can run straight ahead ok but move side to side and throw in a tight pocket , FORGET IT !!!

Ask Belichick if Brady is starting Week 4 and he’d probably give you a similar answer
September 6th, 2018 at 1:40 pm
The curse of Fitztragic everywhere the man has been the starting qb goes down a he ends up starting. Hope he doesn’t return next season.
September 6th, 2018 at 1:41 pm
Not only is that absurd, Joe runs a business here. A successful one at that. Ignoring major stories that have lasting impact on a team is not a way to run a successful business.
Just because the franchise quarterback can’t play doesn’t mean Joe is going to ignore him.
September 6th, 2018 at 2:44 pm
Yup, Winston was in a fender bender and got cited for reckless driving. He rear ended someone. No injuries to either person.
Hopefully the rest of his suspension goes smoother.
September 6th, 2018 at 3:04 pm
Between the Jameis controversy, the NFL’s poor response to issues, a perennial losing team and doubling of prices for “prime” games, attendance so far for the our home opener against the Eagles is dismal.
Check out all the empty seats on Ticketmaster for the Eagles game. The blue dots are unsold box office tickets. Doesn’t help that end zone is $205 and uppers start at $125. You can pick your own reason(s) but the public has spoken.
September 6th, 2018 at 3:35 pm
An over-under of 6.5 with the toughest schedule in the league, with your quarterback suspended for three games, coming off a 5-11 season is not an indictment, but a vote of support from Vegas (okay, so it’s not really Vegas, but the online books).
I hope King mortgages his house and bets it all on the under.
I only ask one thing. Don’t play 10-12 yards off-coverage on 3rd or 4th and 2-3 yards like we did the other night on 4th and 3. Fire Smith the first time you see off coverage on third or fourth and short.

I hate sports talk radio. Talk about a worthless and meaningless existence, not is more useless and meaningless than sports talk radio. Now, with that said I enjoy a segment here are there and I even can listen to podcasts, but the every single day talking for hours with 65 breaks you have to squeeze in, having the same dullards calling in, having to speculate for days on in about meaningless things, ugh. I think I’d hang myself.
September 6th, 2018 at 8:39 pm
Godeep66 has become my own personal stalking troll. Something I typed must have struck a nerve. I have to admit enjoying his misery. His hatred for Jameis has to be based on something more personal than just racism. BTW, been a Buc fan since before we had a team. My loyalty stays with the team.
September 6th, 2018 at 10:20 pm
I will tip it for you guys. My neighbor the Bucs exec says they are all in with JW as soon as the suspension is over. Like it or not that is their guy and they are rolling with him.
