No Spark From Jameis

September 30th, 2018

The chatter from the Bucs locker room last week was consistent from players: the return of Jameis Winston brought new energy to the team. The guy is an uplifting force.

The takes came from both sides of the football. And then Sunday happened.

No, Joe isn’t pinning the brutal Bears loss on Jameis, just scrutinizing the team and the timing of this shameful blowout. The Bucs have one of the worst games in their history right after their main man and quarterback returns to the building?

It’s a bad look.

And so was the Bucs scoring just seven points in the second half with Jameis at quarterback. What the heck was that garbage interception Jameis threw late in the game without being under pressure? Sheesh.

Yes, Jameis was entitled to a rusty game coming back from three-plus weeks at home. But man, Joe certainly thought his return would boost the team on a mental, spiritual, and physical level.

The bye week couldn’t come at a better time. Joe hopes all the Bucs look in the mirror and realize how critical these next four games are, at Atlanta, home for Chicago, and at Cincinnati and at Carolina. The Bucs must find their way to another 2-2 quarter of the season.

No excuses.

Jameis Winston’s performance was lackluster to say at least, but oh well

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

Today was preseason. It all starts in 2 weeks. it’s all on him now.

  4. Buccanoles01 Says:

You put a guy in after being down 5td’s at halftime and expect a so called spark? There wasn’t a spark or a flint today from this team. The O-Line was man handled and the secondary was toast the entire game. No running game….again! Fitz showed he was fitztragic by over throwing majority of the receivers and it was an overall debacle of a game.
You’re reading what’s not here. Regardless, of course Joe expected better than 7 points from Jameis with the Bears in a soft defense. Joe considers Jameis to be a strong QB. –Joe

  5. Pit Says:

At least half of the Joe is not blind.

  6. Blackmagic00 Says:

Man it’s so brutal playing the bears twice this season. The NFL hates us. Lmao

  7. BrianBucs Says:

Same old Jameis. Racking up garbage time yards as usual

  8. Patrick Says:

I love how the Jameis Winston fans all disregard his interceptions and stupid mistakes, but when Fitzpatrick does the same, it’s not okay. Double standard at its finest.

  9. Cgmaster Says:

What did you expect, jamwis to come in and put 40 on the board? C’mon joe this is ridiculous. The line was awful all game and they were playing 2 deep to prevent anything big. This story is just stirring the pot. See you guys excusing Grimes last week and jamwis hasnt seen live action in over a month. The last pic was his fault for sure but gees.

  10. Cgmaster Says:

Patrick ,you all were on here last week excusing all of fitzs picks. Double standard indeed

  11. BrianBucs Says:

I have a very funny feeling that we have not seen the last of Fitz this season

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

“The only way to quickly rebuild this team or any team in the modern NFL franchise building is to trade your #1 asset to start rebuilding the franchise

We only have 1 asset …Jameis Winston

We can get a #1 pick for JW

this team needs 2 !st round defensive players in the coming draft to build a foundation

“Tony Dungy is coming back next year”

    Kobe Faker

  13. JimmyJack Says:

How is the QB supported to boost that invisible defense? You’re reaching hard Joe. You did a great job reading what’s not written here. –Joe

  14. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

looked like jameis his only defense is there is no run game, the OL is garbage, the bears have the best defensive player & good defense & bears played prevent the entire 2nd half, oh PS nice job Licht signing aaron lynch anorher in a long series of mismangement by this regime

  15. Blue-footed booby Says:

I was hoping Fitzpatrick would at least play well enough to keep Winston on the bench for good. Oh well, a 2-14 record should still be enough to both dump the current regime and have a high enough draft pick to get a new quarterback next year.

Looks like next year’s draft class should have some good QB prospects in Justin Herbert from Oregon, Jarrett Stidham from Auburn, Drew Lock from Missouri, and a prospect who I really personally don’t want here but admittedly looks good on the field in Will Grier from West Virginia.

Oh and Kobe Faker, I hope you were joking about getting a 1st round pick in trading Winston, because exactly zero teams in the NFL would give up a premium draft pick for him.

  16. Buccanoles01 Says:

Really? What’s posted is EXACTLY what you typed. No interest in DMing. Joe deleted your first sentence or two for obvious reasons. Joe doesn’t play guess who typed what in the comments section.–Joe

  17. Warrenfb12 Says:

Come on man, we do this every year. They have these awful losses every year. People can talk about a great come back against the Steelers but the writing was on the wall and it’s also why the fanbase was freaking out. Didn’t pass the eyeball test. This loss and the Steelers game, we have seen those stories WAY too much under Koetter/Lovie/Raheem/schiano. Why?

  18. Destinjohnny Says:

    Guys it’s the gm

  19. Wesley Says:

Are you kidding me, he came into a 30 something to 3 game. That’s incredibly unfair to say “Jameis couldn’t spark them”. Gtfoh.
Players talked about Jameis bringing energy and a spark to the locker room and the team. It didn’t pan out on the field. So Joe shouldn’t write about it? It’ was NOT Joe who was talking all week about Jameis bringing a positive jolt to the club. –Joe

  20. Ndog Says:

Happily, you basically are pointing the finger at Jameis for this team being gutless and lacking effort. Spin it how you may but anyone with any common sense can see what you are doing with this article. Nice article Tom. You are the only one spinning. Sad. –Joe

  21. Doc Says:

Please trade Jameis, so he can go somewhere and win a super bowl, and he can be coached by pro coaches. This man has play two quarter of football and you guys want to trade him and blame him for this mess. Write a story about how bad this coaching staff is and how bad the G.M. has been over the years.

  22. webster Says:

Look, pal, Joe does not tolerate insults of that magnitude here. You’re reading between the lines, and not what’s here. –Joe

  23. SkBucsFan Says:

The remaining teams are all beatable. Only one or two have a 3-1 record. The rest are the same or worse thanks. However, the Buc’s won’t beat anyone unless the Defense turns it around. Make the most of the bye week and fix the problems !

I need to be an optimist or I would suffer from severe Bucs Fan Depression. # BFD is real!

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Either way I’ll settle for Jameis providing his spark next game against the Falcons

  25. JimmyJack Says:

We would have won the game if Derek would have taken kickoff when he won the coin flip but he’s a big old wimp

  26. SteveK Says:

Fans need to use an equal non bias eye when watching our QBs play.

Jameis’ first pick was not his fault.

The second pick was a dumb arse decision on his part and I want to know what Webster, ndog, Jaboo4Life, etc, would say if that had been Fitzy?

Bottom line, Winston was 1:2- I score and two giveaways. Giveaways from the INT and Fumble variety are his biggest downfall. I believe Jameis can do better and I expect it next game.

  27. Ndog Says:

Yeah that’s why 90% of the commenters are saying the exact same thing I am. But you’re right this loss is 100% on Jameis, what a bumb for bringing this team down upon his return to the building. You right he probably pulled all the secondary out of their meetings for a party and pulled the linebackers out to watch a movie, yep he is totally why the defense is the worst in the league, I mean they have been so good this year before today. … Oh wait

  28. Rick Says:

No spark because it’s the same ol let down from Winston. This guy doesn’t lead by example. He’s a fraud. Fitz has the respect of the team. Obviously Winston is the better passer overall but if your team doesn’t believe in you their not going to sell out for you. Same thing goes for the so called leader on defense in gmc. Same can be said about dirk and smith. This team is defeated inside and out. IMHO.

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Rick they are down but not defeated yet.

  30. JimmyJack Says:

No I could see them giving off. P especially after quitting today on the field

  31. Rick Says:

*and by let down I mean his off the field stuff. Not just on the field.

  32. Anonymous Says:

Well this is the problem, isn’t it? The plan was give Winston all the weapons and rocket to the Super Bowl. Forget about defense, running backs, O Line, it’s all #Weapons4Winston. So now the Bucs have the best receiving corps in the NFL, but the Winston part hasn’t delivered, while the neglected parts are killing us.

  33. JabooBuc Says:

well, we get two weeks to prepare for a Falcons team that is having it’s own problems. However, they now have 3 WR’s that will completely embarrass this defense if they don’t get better fast.

Also, dear Jason, can we please find a Right Guard? Caleb is soft and slow. Bad combo for a G.

  34. Ndog Says:

So Rick they respect Fitz so much they got scored on virtually every drive when he was in the game?

  35. Rick Says:

    JimmyJack

When you have mike smith in charge of the d it’s like going in the boxing ring with a one hand tied behind your back. The very definition of one dimensional is this Bucs offense.

  36. TonyC Says:

I put a lot of this on Licht who refused to beef up the secondary, got rid of players and was generally pretty complacent. This whole “our guys” thing is bogus and I’m sick of it. Look at what J Ville did no defense. We need to overall this team on the defensive side of the ball (new DC as well) and this GM doesn’t have a clue. So yes fire Licht and Smith at least. I’m not sure about Koetter as a head coach. He should be an OC somewhere I guess. It’s a mess overall.

  37. Anonymous Says:

We tanked this game on offense to put fliz down defense is a total different story mike smith should of been fired by now but Why would we do that blame injuries it’s all play calling billon dollar d line can’t touch a QB unreal in heard of we should get sacks by accident sometimes not even that Embarrassment

  38. D the Bucs fan Says:

    SofTT Koetter sofT team

  39. SteveK Says:

Can we all agree that this team has no excuses after their bye week?

If Fitz is going to be crucified and critiqued with a microscope, the. We need to do the same to Jameis.

IMHO, we need Winston to start playing like a #1 pick. I hope he can take care of the ball that’s his biggest hurdle.

  40. TonyC Says:

“we need to over haul” ^^^^^

  41. D the Bucs fan Says:

We should’ve just kept lovie for this. No. But fire everybody. Get these old guys outta here the game has clearly past these coaches and their old schemes bye.

  42. Juggernautical Says:

Next offseason: Jameis for Carr trade straight up. Lol

  43. Rick Says:

    Ndog

Just my guess. Like I said, Winston is superior in all aspects. You don’t think he talks a big game then lays an egg on the field. That’s not respectable, you can’t suck at your job and expect perfection from everyone else. Fitz lead by example. But I suppose the fitz talk is over now

  44. Ndog Says:

No Rick this team sucks if freaking Tom Brady was at QB. It doesn’t matter cause this defense is all time bad. The talent isn’t as bad as it looks but that doesn’t matter cause the results are in THIS DEFENSE SUCKS PERIOD!

  45. BrianBucs Says:

Jameis Winston – all sizzle and no steak

  46. Buc1987 Says:

    Fire Mike Smith.

  47. NJBucsFan Says:

Only the fanboys got a spark.

  48. Bigbucfan90 Says:

Fire mike smith and as for offense there really wasn’t much we could do the bears are a great defensive team especially when you have Mack averaging a sack fumble every game smh tough loss I hope we can get it together like you said down this hard stretch because it’s going to be tough definitely going to let us know if we are going to make playoffs or not

  49. LakeLand Says:

    Back to the drawing board

The offense stunk as bad as the defense

But they get a pass because Licht has big money invested in them

  50. DBS Says:

At least 2 main players on offense that are weak were exposed. DOTSON has NEVER been that good and Benenoch is a waste. Both need to be replaced. Just between those 2 a qb will be running .

  51. LakeLand Says:

If the Bucs had a complete offense, instead of a one dimensional offense

    Things would have been different

  52. Rick Says:

    Ndog
That’s true. Defense should be top priority, from the top down. It must suck putting up seven on offense knowing it won’t be long till the game is tied or playing catch up again.

  53. INSPIRED? Says:

Yeah, that’s a crappy write up. CHEAP SHOT ARTIST… the team was broken before he stepped foot on the field and you know it. Again, you appear to be another reader who did not read what is written in this post. You might want to re-read.–Joe Seems like there is a Joe that’s “hurt” over the Mariota Vs Winston situation. In fact it’s clear. Joe remains very pleased the Bucs drafted Jameis, and you never saw Joe here lobbying for Mariota over Jameis. There are archives on the home page to review.–Joe One of you in particular and that’s your right but still…. That’s a cheap shot and you know it. PLUS, I was wondering what your boy Fitz did in the first half since you are throwing stones? It was so unremarkable that it’s hard to recall. O, I remember. Nothing with a big helping of “lackluster” on the side.

Let’s be real, it didn’t matter which QB we were getting our tails kicked with…. BECAUSE THE DEFENSE MAID SURE WE HAD NO CHANGE PERIOD AND END OF CONVERSATION!

  54. NPRSageBoy Says:

    Two questions:

    1) Was Mike Smith fired yet?

    2) Did Jameis throw another pick?

  55. LakeLand Says:

    60 yards rushing

  56. jay adams Says:

We dont play Chicago 2x this season. That should have been Cleveland coming up not Chicago.

  57. "No more beards" Says:

People can complain that Jameis is unfairly being treated but most of us know that’s real BS. He’s our starting FRANCHISE QB who came in when the Bears had relaxed some on defense and played flat. To all the Jameis apologist, is this what we’re supposed to expect when our savior can’t really walk on water? I don’t care if he was down 900 to 3 that’s no excuse. Nobody’s blaming him for losing the game but you definitely can’t say he played well either.

  58. Walter Seidel Says:

Winston SUCKS and everyone knows it…..and he’s an awful human being…..and everyone knows that too….just some Nole fans still defend his sorry butt.

  59. Not there yet Says:

I could point out something stupid, the guys arm was hit when the interception happened and only bears players ran towards the ball. The guy hasn’t played and he was to provide a spark. I settled for at least we didn’t have to see Ryan Fitzpatrick rust anymore. Apparently he only has 3 games a year in him. Bears defense didn’t suck and if your playing prevent defense because of a huge lead what was he supposed to do.

  60. SchwiftyBuc Says:

How about a story about how garbage Brent Grimes has been through 2 games and how the Bucs would have been better off using that money on Trumaine Johnson. Or hell even Morris Claiborne. Instead the Jets signed both.

  61. firethecannons Says:

Yeah-this sounds alot like Tom Jones
I think by the time Jameis came in we were too far gone for any hope/uplift whatever. Adjustments should of been made–this game was lost by our defense. They have a ferocious front line on their defense-understandable we were not able to score big–our offensive line looked overpowered all game. The defense lost this game bad-an embarassing loss that should lead to Mike Smith getting fired first thing tomorrow.

  62. Buc1987 Says:

He hasn’t played much this season…but the same old yahoo’s are out in full force bashing him about.

Then you have everyone misreading what Joe wrote. Joe wrote it that way to attract the yahoo’s. Whether they comment or not. No potshot at Jameis.

There’s LOT’S of Bucs fans that want Jameis Winston as the QB of the Bucs and I’m sure most of them aren’t Noles fans. When peeps inject the Nole thing….it makes them look idiotic to me…but keep doing it. There have been MANY analysts, commentators, ex coaches and such that rave about Winston’s skillset. NONE of them went to FSU. Jason Licht did not go to FSU….nor Dirk Koetter. You people are DUMB as……

I just went to Pewter Report for a bit. Read some comments. One dude says….”hey I’m a Winston guy” and then went onto explain why. Nobody came out and attacked him for it. It was odd. I don’t know if he was a Noles fan though….prolly…cause that’s the only Bucs fan that likes him…..

  63. Buc21 Says:

Wait…we play Chicago again in 3 weeks?? When did they bring back the ol’ NFC Central? Think the Joes are wishing like all of us that the Bucs from the golden age are suiting up and Monte Kiffin is gonna fix this mess…

  64. JabooBuc Says:

87 – As you know, no longer a big supporter of JW. However, not sure how anyone could possibly blame him for anything today. Anyone coming in after a 3 game absence with no practice time with the team would struggle to spark a team that had clearly quit at that point.

  65. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

    Fire Mike Smith NOW!!!!

  66. Frank Pillow Says:

If we’re going from bombs away big plays to dink and dunk, I’d rather take my chances with the former. This D can’t stop anyone.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

You’re down like 38-3, what exactly is Jameis supposed to provide? I mean they didn’t 76-6, so I guess he helped some, but there is no spark in that situation the game is over.

I wasn’t for letting Winston play in this game since I don’t know what good could come from it as the Bears knew the Bucs were passing the ball, I thought, and still think, it’d have been best to let Jameis practice for a week before you throw him into a game, and he certainly would have been the week 6 starter, just as most everyone with an IQ over 16 said would happen.

But anywho we’ll see what happens going forward, but if there aren’t big changes on defense and Licht isn’t getting a RB (BELL, make the call Licht) then this team isn’t going to win unless they can put up 48 points a week – and with Dirk taking back control of the offense I don’t see that happening.

  68. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Biggest coahing mistake of the day (year?) NOT STARTING JW….

Now everyone knows our backup really sucks and our Starter cant provide a spark!!!!

I was this close to throwing the towel in on this season after seeing Fitz start. Not to be out done they threw in the towel before me… Insult to injury, they threw JW into a game to get curbed stomped with the gang that didnt support him… LOOKING AT YOU djax!!! Lookimg at YOU dog… Hope you dont get another 100 yard game all year…

Let the core grow together… Where is our Monken of the Defence?!?!?!?

  69. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Buc1987

You seem to have a very low bar for Jameis.. Were you actually happy with his second half performance? If he comes out after the bye, after preparing for 2 weeks, and plays against Cleveland North the way he played today, would you be OK with that? ..smh

Let’s hope he plays better against our sister city Cleveland North. It would be embarrassing to lose badly against them, wouldn’t you agree?

  70. Rod Munch Says:

The Winston haters are the most whiny emo cupcakes this side of Dirk.

  71. WalkdaPlank Says:

I think Jameis did fine in garbage time, aside from that pick. He completed a lot of passes and found Brate in the endzone. I think we can all give him a pass on this one as at least he didn’t play TOO bad. Unfortunately I don’t think Jameis will turn out to be the guy every FSU Bucs fan thinks he is. It’s his 4th year and he has played like a No. 1 overall pick in none of those years so far. This is his last chance, fitzpatrick already proved this offense is capable of putting up multiple touchdowns a game and ridiculous yards, if Jameis can’t do it where Fitz could, say goodbye to America.

  72. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

The point is not Winston played bad…. WHO CARES…. No moral victory in him doing good would have mattered…

    So why pretend to care?!?!?!

Bottom line….. We Were Not CHICAGO READY…. Oh the irony!!!!

Cant wait for next week… At least I know what to expect….

    Than its on to Atlanta…

JW#3 returns with preasure to do good because?!?!?!

Ohhhhhh My, WHY DIRK WHY did you start Fitz… You got peer preasured I know you did… Right???

  73. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

This looked like a team that folded after a horid pre game pep talk… Maybe thats what happened….

LMFAO…. Yep… I figured it out… JW gave a bad pep talk in the locker room…

Just like Fitz is really good…

    #FakeNews

  74. lambchop Says:

I especially liked how Jameis was scrambling and running back to the opposite end of the field cuz that *always* ends up good. 9/10 times it’s an offensive holding, 5/10 times it’s a sack, 1/10 times you get bailed out by a PI. How bout just scramble up the field or throw it away?

I can’t stand Captain Hero on every play trying soooooo hard to make a play. It usually leads to bad things. He’s athletic, we get it. Athleticism at QB is much ado about nothing unless you’re putting up points.

  75. John Says:

Joe, we don’t play Chicago again. Lol. Thank god.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

Jean Lafitte…..I actually stopped watching the game at the start of the 4th. My wife kept it on even though I kept telling her to change the channel.

Don’t get your low bar crap as from what I posted….I agree with WalkDaPlank when he said….

“This is his last chance, fitzpatrick already proved this offense is capable of putting up multiple touchdowns a game and ridiculous yards, if Jameis can’t do it where Fitz could, say goodbye to America.”

I’m a self admitted Noles fan. I have to do that all the time. To keep it real and honest. I’ve also been a Bucs fan for nearly 30 years. A big Bucs fan. A fan that realizes that this team has never had a franchise QB. If I feel strongly (and I do) that Jameis Winston is that QB…then naturally after 30 years I’m going to defend the kid against yahoo’s.

Like I said…. imo MANY folks across the country believe Winston has the skillset to be a great QB….not just Noles fans….and I agree!

Joe it’s tough they do have reading comp problems…I blame Florida schools.

  77. Gene Deckerhoff is my hero Says:

    Should not have been put^

  78. Gene Deckerhoff is my hero Says:

Cut Koetter. A good coach never puts a star player in a situation like that. Let Fitz fail all the way and shut up all the Fitzmagic bandwagoners. Putting Jameis in to start the 2nd half is the equal of taking LeBron James out because his team is up by and incermountable lead and there is no way the other team is winning. Straight disrespect to Jameis including making him available to media afterwards instead of FitzTragic. Cut Koetter Immediately. There is a known divide in the fanbase and Jameis should not have been put in that position to potentially give the Jameis haters any fuel. Poor management all around. Clean house in the front office and don’t waste a potential HOF QB.

Don’t feel bad, Joe. NDog is just a fanboy with a desire to defend Winston’s honor.

  80. Buc1987 Says:

And Jean…if you were in the live thread today as I was…..I wanted Fitz to stay IN the game…the whole game…..so peeps like yourself can see just how magical he really is….

Remember…you were the one that was convinced that fans that voted No the Bucs were not going to beat the Bears in the poll were all “Fitz-Haters”. Not me I tried to explain it to you that it’s not that simple. Nobody hates Fitz. Well maybe Eagles and Saints fans…..

I know fans of other teams that tell me. Fitz should stay in there the whole season. I also heard what they think about Winston’s off the field junk. That’s when the debate gets cloudy. They say things with great disdain for the kid. So naturally even if Fitz was doing HALF as good as he was doing, they’d want him to be the starter. I work part time in a very busy restaurant…I hear things said about the kid.

  81. JameisWin55 Says:

Winston performance was only bright side of today he looked good at times looked more patient strong in the pocket yes he had 2 picks one was hit by DPOY Mack and another was him simply trying to will Bucs back in scoreboard trying to hard to get points on the board. This defense is pure trash look like junior high our offense faced a great D today. Should fire Smith let Buckner get a shot at DC going into but insert Jameis as starter call Steelers see what it takes to get Bell season is still in sight we 2-2 with win over Saints division leader if we can bear Atlanta we are leaving them but changes has to be made at RB, OL, DL, CB, S

  82. Shane Says:

He was put into a terrible situation. Bears know what’s coming you are passing down by that much. At least he did throw a TD pass. And that drive got away from pressure.

  83. Shane Says:

16 for20 with a TD. The late INT was bad but damn I could see him pressing and just trying to make something happen. Terrible situation. To be put in

  84. Architek Says:

Most NFL fans outside of Tampa don’t think of Winston as he is just not relevant or not good enough to be a talking point. Franchise tag and continue evaluating.

  85. Bird Says:

    This is hilarious.

You guys are ripping the joes and he is the biggest Jamie’s fan out there. Pretty sure some posters aka 1987 and Ndog and Webster were begging to keep Fitzpatrick in to make him look worse. Classic guys we got posting here. Do you guys even like the Bucs? Be careful what you wish for cause the grass ain’t always greener on the other side.

Just FYI cause you guys have your blinders on. This defense was terrible in the first 2 games as well so that excuse does not work anymore. Mike smiths defense is the Red Sea.

  86. Gruden4President Says:

All tou Winston butt lovers giving Joe a hardtine for telling it bow it is? All this crap you lame ass nole fans talked about what Winston would do once hebwas back in. What a joke. Boo hoo its unfair for Winston to come in the 2nd half of a blowout and provide a spark? Funny cause i remember a similar situation last year against Arizona. The Cardinals were blowing us out and Winston was playing like trash per the usual. Couldnt score to save his live until finally he gor hurt And Fitz came in the 2nd half. The switch at QB provided an immediate spark to this team and Fitz got us to within 3 points. That is the spark Joe is talking about.

  87. DB55 Says:

No, Joe isn’t pinning the brutal Bears loss on Jameis, just scrutinizing the team
    ————-

The loss falls squarely on the GM and coaches. No they don’t tackle or cover people but they hire the guys who should do so.

Case in point MJ Stewart got burnt at least 5 times and accounted for as many as 21-28 points in the first half. What’s unfortunate is that the GM had The opportunity draft Donte Jackson rookie CB for the Carolina Panthers who played with Kwon at LSU and currently has three interceptions. He is a 4.3 guy who can cover, nope not interested. We want the undersized linebacker playing nickel corner like a little ronde Barber wanna-be. YEY! Tampa! Smart!

Next, both of the QBs sucked due primarily to the lack of protection as usual (hi demar Dotson hope you’re well you are a wonderful human being and we all think you’re just swell). I digress, how you don’t max protect, chip or double Mack is beyond me. That’s on coach.

Finally, Winston was the leading passer with 145 yards, TD and 2 INTs. The offense in the second half looked impotent which lead me to ask who’s calling plays? I didn’t see the Monken offense that I saw in the first half. Hump was the primary target where’s Djax? Oh yea he can catch Winston’s balls.

Poor RoJo is out of his league, can’t catch a simple pass and missed tHe hugest hole ever on his first rush. As for The mighty Vita Vea he showed the he can get blocked well and while he’s getting blocked he can throw people to the ground Argh Hulk SMASH!!!! MJ Stewart IS WHOA!! If he couldn’t hit he’d be worse than alteran verner or Ryan Smith Jesus he is as bad as Ryan Smith.

Which all ties back to the GM completely throwing away second round picks and coaches not be able to out-scheme their opponent. Koetter got schooled by a rookie HC who did his homework. And our GM got schooled by our entire division at every level. But if he doesn’t fix that oline he should be arrested for endangering the lives of others.

First off, I like the dialogue without the insults, kudo’s and salutations.

I think the point I have been trying to make is that all of Jameis’s supporters have gone out of their way to prop up Jameis like he’s the second coming of Christ. The fact is, other than posting huge yardage numbers (happening league-wide) he has a dismal win/loss record. His career win/loss is 18/27.

Ok, now we’re in year 4 and he’s coming off a self inflicted 3 game suspension where Ryan Fitzpatrick had to assume the starting position. Against all odds including many, and I’m saying many Jameis supporters (FSU mainly) were actively writing Fitzpatrick off. He’ll go 0-3, he’s a bum, It will be his fault, not Jameis’s if they start at 0-3. But to his credit, he came out to that stage and showed US, the FANS, that we do have the offensive weapons.

That we have been loaded with the same skilled offensive players for awhile, except for R. Jensen. Now enter Jameis, he has the rest of the year to post more than his average 19 PPG. If he doesn’t, then what? Because Fitzpatrick has set the bar. Unless you hold Jameis to a lower bar, you’d have to agree? right? He wants to be paid? Then show us why? Is that too much to ask?

  89. DB55 Says:

    Btw food for thought.

The three passes I recall Winston throwing the his right, one was a really bad over throw to Hump, the second was an overthrow to djax and the third was the pick. Wtf does that mean? idk but he only missed 4 passes.

  90. DB55 Says:

    One more thing, the spark.

Baker Mayfield provides a huge spark for OBP North yet he still lost and committed 3 turnovers 2 ints and a fumble. Yet he’s still a great young qb and so is Winston. But no, no spark at all.

Looked to me like the 2016 Bucs with hump, brate and Evans leading the way.

I just wish I had the hindsight that you have.

    Yep.

    You’d make a GREAT GM

Oh im sure they got so excited to see jamies… Like kids in a birthday party when the clown comes in.
Why you media people think we are that stupid? These pathetic ‘jenna lane’ guided questions and lip service answers doesn’t get much truth out. Players remain politically correct and nothing more. I, for one, think players like fits more than smoke and mirrors jw.

  97. onetrickpony Says:

I’m confused, some are saying Winston was rusty because of not playing.
But didn’t I read where he had others to practice with, while under suspension?
Wished they put in Ryan#2 to see what he is all about and if worth keeping.

  99. Bob in Valrico Says:

Several things are hard to ignore on defense, M J Stewart does not have the speed to stay with WR’s going across the field. No matter where they line Grimes
up he is not effective. Something has to be done to improve the communication
and teamwork in the secondary. Total disarray in the secondary. Way too many open receivers.

    Jameis Winston = Doug Williams 2.0;

    }

  101. SteveK Says:

Per former WR Michae Clayton, Jameis should have stepped up on the pocket on his first pick. Sir both are of his error in judgement/execution.

I hope we come out firing after the bye week. We need Jameis to take us to the playoffs. Fitz gave it to him 2-2.

  102. Walter Seidel Says:

Hey Joe……time for another “Koetter Confidence Poll”

Toss in a Winston poll while you’re at it please.

  103. AlteredEgo Says:

Jameis looks like he always has going back to FSU….a couple of goofy retreating scrambles….hanging his WR’s out to dry…nearly killed Mike Evans…missed JDax….sorry folks I don’t seem Jameis anything other than get your hopes up every now and then teaser….he will never be an elite QB….how do I know….watch the elite NFL QB’s….decision making…mechanics..throwing on time to the spot….looking off DB’s…cool head….on and on…

  104. feelthepewterpower Says:

Winston did OK considering the pressure they brought and they werent giving up big plays with the type of defense they were in. His throws were rusty as the timing was off and the receivers had to adjust for balls on their routes a few times. The last INT was the one throw he wanted back, but other than that, he did well considering it was a month layoff, the team being demoralized on the road, etc.

The Buccs must win on the road as three of the next four on the road. If they come out of this quarter 3-1 they will be in good shape as the schedule softens even more with three out of four beatable teams at home! Let’s Go Buccs!

The only thing I can see is that you wrote that we had to play Chicago again instead of Cleveland. No, thanks! I’m not sure we’d be favored against the Browns anyways. This team is reeling. Smith needs to go.

I nodded off end off end of first half to a wonderful dreamthe Bucs were the talk if the NFL and the blabbering idiot national shows.Even Screamin A Smith said they had turned the corner..it was gloroius ! Beer tasted colder..proud to gear up sunday in pewter /red or even ole bucco creamsicle..only to be jolted BACK TO REALITY of #3 aimlesslessly pieroetting 20 yards behind line of scrimmage throwiing against his body/across field to a sea of Beats jerseys and another horrific defensive display weve grown accustomed to (Cousins/Foles/insert random qb who had carrer days vs Tb) it waz all a dream …a wonderful dream …

What off the field stuff from Jameis? R u that dense? The incident happened in the OFF season AFTER HIS ROOKIE YEAR! U act as if this occurred last week! Get your facts right for once

@JimmyT: tell Bill Cosby that same line. I bet his cell mate will be checking out that pudding pop.

  111. Jayhova Winston Says:

Winston is all that is football. Tampa Bay is lucky to be graced with his presence. He deserves better than this shade tree organization, and pre madonna ungrateful fanbase. Jameis will ascend one day.
