No Excuses
September 3rd, 2018A lot of Bucs fans have created a two-word marketing slogan for the 2018 Bucs season that would have been a helluva lot cheaper and more accurate than what the Bucs paid for.
And that two-word slogan is “No excuses.”
Bucs fans are tired of losing, and for good reason. Chucky left after the 2008 season and only twice have the Bucs not finished docked in Buccaneers Cove, last place in the NFC South.
Still the Bucs haven’t been to the playoffs since Chucky was jettisoned.
Fans hear from people on the Bucs’ dime talk about the great talent they have on the roster. They hear from folks like Father Dungy who believe the Bucs can make the playoffs. It’s time to lay the cards on the table.
Albert Breer seems to side with Bucs fans. In a recent article on theMMQB.com, Breer looks at the Bucs receivers and states there is no excuse for the passing offense to fail.
I don’t know if this is offbeat, but man is that receiver group physically impressive. Mike Evans is a horse, of course, and staffers there have a hard time remembering the last ball he dropped in practice. It’s more than just that, though. The coaches have been impressed with how DeSean Jackson has maintained his game-breaking ability going into Year 10, and sophomore Chris Godwin has had another impressive offseason. Then there’s O.J. Howard, who has all the ability, and just needs to put it together. Add it all up, and if these guys stay healthy, Winston won’t have many excuses.
It makes Joe want to vomit how the Bucs’ godawful defense just threw away wins. It was obscene.
Frankly, Joe is in a wait-and-see mode when it comes to the defense. Lot of talk but Joe is numb from over-the-top talk through the years.
Let’s see production and results on the field before casting some busts for Canton.

It’s still pre-season and there are clicks to be generated. Just a few more days…

Don’t worry you can always count on some very entertaining excuses led by the delusional optimists on these pages… this team could go 0-16 and pickgrin and bonzi would excuse away and justify every lose. They Blame everything but the core issues which even a blind man can see, no organizational leadership, minor league talent and mentality weak career losers in on field leadership roles.

dungy might want one more shot in tampa…and this time they already have offense…just sure up the defense
September 3rd, 2018 at 9:17 am
i miss alstott pounding at defenses
September 3rd, 2018 at 9:18 am
this team needs an alstott !

If Mike Smith runs a zone defense on every play like last year it’s going to much more tough to get wins with teams just marching down the field for a TD or a win with one of all those close field goal games last year.

I don’t see how some, sit and watch all the resources go to one side of the ball then point the finger at the other side and say that they were the only problem!!!!!!!!!! The points per game avg were nearly the same!!!!! the offense had majority of the resources, yet the defense was supposed to shut out teams time and time again while the offense flounders in the redzone!!!!!!! when I see all the first and second round picks, the “real” fans expect more from the offense!!!!!!!!!
And maybe during training camp, local media should for a day or two, go and visit other training camps!!!!! It seems that some get too close for the situation!!!! and either get star struck or just are too close to the Local team and wayyyy over evaluate the “real” talent of the team!!!!!!!!!!
#trust the coaches!!!!!! Fix the “real” problem!!!!!!!! The roster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the “real” fans don’t miss his terrible pass protection and blitz pick ups!!!!!!!!!!
Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

I got a real excuse for you. Our O-line scares the hell out of me.
On D I still think we are better than last year (not saying much there), but how much?

I think Dungy is feeling like he’s done with coaching. I would love to see Ronde come in as DC and dominate every year.
September 3rd, 2018 at 9:27 am
Oh. I was thinking it’s “we suck.”
September 3rd, 2018 at 9:28 am
We simply don’t know how to win. Offense does well the defense loses the game. Defense does well the special teams loses the game.

Dungy failed. Why bring back a failure who can’t win in the post season….his career losing playoff record proves it. Xthe legend of dungy the clown far excerds his actual accomplishments by a long shot….

Shame on Mike Smith .Doesn’t he know that the defense has
has to stop 14 point leads when the offense either has turnovers or sputters from poor execution or stupid penalties . This is the year that Jameis has to play at the level he showed he is capable of in preseason. Lead the team to scores early
and often. Playing from behind should not be necessary as often as it has been.
We should one of the highest scoring offenses in the league with all our weapons.
September 3rd, 2018 at 9:41 am
And if Ronde failed at DC, no true Bucs fan would spit on him every time they saw him on the street. He got us into the Super Bowl with that pick 6 in icicle weather at the last game in the Vet. That’s my most favorite play in Bucs history.

No excuses for the defense either. Todd monken said the offense chose to sick, qb coach checked all the other teams redzone plays and said they just didn’t execute but the defense? Yes d line was an issue but can’t say Mike Smith want at fault either especially that Julio Jones fiasco. If your going to get beat that bad by someone it shouldn’t be by a guy who played for you when you were head coach. Another out of date defense and out of date fossil
September 3rd, 2018 at 9:54 am
I respect the importance and value of coaching but at the end of the day it’s up to the players. They are professionals and mature men…if they execute this year they will win. Sometimes it gets down to simply “make a play”. We have playmakers on this team.
If our DL performs as well as we hope the back end of our D will be immediately improved. If our OL can simply be middle of the pack we can win…if they’re at the bottom…watch out!
My biggest fear though is with our special teams. A 103 yard and 106 yard TD return of kickoffs is simply unacceptable! Hopefully Kaszor can figure a way to tighten that up.
September 3rd, 2018 at 10:06 am
If the OLine isn’t vastly improved with run blocking capability – this Buccaneers Offense will continue to have “issues”.
September 3rd, 2018 at 10:27 am
again …in a pass happy league like the NFL today you’ve gotta average more than 19 points a game to be successful unless you have a top notch defense. You can blame the defense all you want but we left a lot of points off the board that could have made the difference.
September 3rd, 2018 at 10:34 am
@adam from ny
No thanks on Dungy… why keep living in the past???
September 3rd, 2018 at 11:18 am
…No mention of Brate or the o-line?
September 3rd, 2018 at 11:56 am
Interesting is that Breer makes no mention of JWs security blankets inBrate and Humphries, so I often wonder what do these analysts really know about our team. It atleast someone finally realized this receiving group can win games for us and I am trusting all of our RBs to be really good out of the backfield, even ROJO
September 3rd, 2018 at 12:42 pm
The slogan of no excuses in 2018 is very dumb. In seems to imply that excuses are OK for other seasons. Theres never an excuse and that should go without saying.
Sure there will be some marshmallow fans always trying to come up with an excuse. Those fans just don’t get it but they are who they are and every fanbase has em. Hey nothing wrong with differing opinions……it help the world go round
September 3rd, 2018 at 12:45 pm
Top 4 passing offense. Passing was not the reason more points were not put on the board. That is kicking game and running game. You have to be able to run the ball in the redzone and make field goals which the bucs could not do.
September 3rd, 2018 at 12:54 pm
Joe I don’t care for you singling out the defense there. I point to the offense first. This team last year was built to win with offense and when they lost the first thing I wanna know is what the offense did for me It was there job to lead the way and they choked.
What did With ston do to win us games? That’s debatable at best? What did our 10 million dollar receiver do? Nuttin. What did Evans do? I remember him getting his hands on three 50/50 balls in the endone against the Falcons and coming up dry. That’s not good enough. Just like Brate dropping a gimme at home vs the Patriots. Or how about Humps most memorable moments coughing up the ball to end the Bills game. Was our running game getting us 1st downs? Nope……The whole offense was an overrated joke last year.
And ask yourself one question. How many times did our offense give the defense a lead to play with. You might actually be able to go back and see that we didn’t have any leads in any loss last year. I’m unsure if that’s true but I know it’s very close to it.
Bottom line is they need to give the defense leads. That’s called a complimentary football. And yes the defense was terrible but I look at them second. The offense last year needed to step up and Lead the Way and they didn’t do it
September 3rd, 2018 at 1:01 pm
JimmyJack
I think you are just a little confused last years defense was built to blow leads.
September 3rd, 2018 at 1:04 pm
exactly JimmyJack ..you piggybacked off my comment. Missed FG’s, turnovers, failed running game, etc.. whatever the reason this offense needs to score more than 19 points a game on average. This offense should be closer to 30 points a game. “No Excuses”
September 3rd, 2018 at 1:26 pm
Now is the time to trade JW for a D and Olineman. Make the move Jason, grow a pair like Gruden.
September 3rd, 2018 at 2:09 pm
What Realist said. We loaded up on offense (#Weapons4Winston), neglected our defense, then blame the defense for losses while averaging only, what, like 21 points a game…
September 3rd, 2018 at 2:16 pm
We reduce the turnovers, the run game is existent and the defense gives up no more than 17 points per game and thus offense can put a hurting on teams even with Fitz or Griff at the helm. When Jameis gets back and find his groove it will be scary.
September 3rd, 2018 at 2:52 pm
Built to blow something, that’s for sure.

September 3rd, 2018 at 3:51 pm
Wow! In a thread labeled “No excuses”, I see a whole lot of truth….. that the offense was totally overrated, and didn’t score many points, despite all of the “weapons for Winston”. At the same time, there are all of the usual excuses being proffered about the rushing attack, kicking game and the defense, and not so surprisingly by the FSU/Winston sycophants.
As repeatedly pointed out by Defense Rules and myself, POINTS matter, and total yards not so much. Did you know that the 29th ranked defense last year by YARDS ALLOWED belonged to the NE Patriots? Yet, they were 5th in the league for POINTS ALLOWED.
Similarly, the presence of a good rushing attack would certainly help an offense to score more points, however the lack of one is simply an excuse. Did you know that the 32nd ranked rushing attack in the league (3.4 YPC) belonged to the Detroit Lions, yet their offense managed to score 25.6 points per game.
The Bucs managed to score 335 POINTS in 2017. Ryan Fitzpatrick played three full games, and mop-up duty in three others. While in there the Bucs scored 105 points. (65 in three starts, and 33 vs. Ariz, and 7 vs. NO) That leaves 230 points during the approximately 12 games led by JW3, which yields an average of ONLY 19.16 ppg!
I better not re-post the points per game for other recent Bucs’ quarterbacks.

September 3rd, 2018 at 4:48 pm
If we can up our average score of 19 p.p.g. (with Jameis) to lets say, 24 p.p.g. with even last years defense that allowed 23 p.p.g., we would have probably been a .500 club or better. No more redzone hiccups
September 3rd, 2018 at 8:00 pm
Nobody disagrees that the offense under performed last year Realist….they should have done better than what they did without question.
However, if you try and argue that the defense was not the BIGGEST problem your wrong. Now that the roster has been turned over and replaced with better talent….lets see if you COACHES can produce. No more lack of communication excuses, I don’t want to hear that no time to gel bullshlt, NO EXCUSES!!!!!
I’m sure after the first few weeks though you will still be on here continuing with you daily Mike Smith hand job telling everyone why its still the roster and has absolutely NOTHING to do with the worst DC in the league having his corners playing 12 yards off the LOC
