Wonderfully “Annoying,” Says Jason Licht

September 20th, 2018

The man behind construction of the high-flying Buccaneers offense, general manager Jason Licht, is particularly pleased with one piece of it.

And Licht told a neat little story that illustrates the great fit of this year’s big acquisition. Joe’s referring to center Ryan Jensen, who has not disappointed through two games.

Jensen has been an upgrade at center, which set up Ali Marpet for success at left guard. The newcomer with the flowing red locks hit the ground running and it seems that maybe his nasty-dude reputation has had a positive impact.

Just before Sunday’s beatdown of the mighty Eagles, Licht weighed in on Jensen against New Orleans.

“He was annoying to them, and that’s what I liked about him. That’s what we liked about him,” Licht said. “That’s what we wanted. And after the [Saints game] he came up to me in the locker room and said, ‘I hope that’s what you were hoping for.'”

Joe loves that Jensen dropped a mellow version of ‘You like that!’ on Licht. It shows he cares about what it means to pocket eight figures of Team Glazer loot, unlike free-agent thieves of the past like T.J. Ward and Chris “Swaggy” Baker.

“Keep it up,” Licht said he told Jensen.

Joe is pleased with Jensen, though Joe will do more cartwheels for the offensive line when the Bucs running game improves. Not against the Eagles’ beastly defensive front should help a lot in that department.

Jensen has been a great addition…..his attitude is infection…..loves how he sets the tone….

  2. Robert Says:

great addition. no more drive killer please!

    slap em before the whistle!

  3. Owlykat Says:

Jensen is the real deal and worth every dollar paid to him. Licht finally built both our trenches and look at the result. I am sure he will continue to do so now that he sees the difference it makes. We overall are now a top ten team and can beat any NFL Team including the Steelers next Monday. Thank goodness Licht didn’t make the mistake of bringing in Loser Glennon as our backup QB, as some of our posters wanted. He signed Fitz Majic instead and the rest is history.

  4. Wausa Says:

So far he looks like a great free agent addition.
I’ve also been really impressed with the play of Donavan Smith and Ali Marpet this year.

Not to be greedy….but It would be wonderful to the the O bust out a running game…..because without that the, Cinderella Carriage , will turn into a pumpkin without it…sometime soon. That said I think the Bics offense is capable of blocking for very good running games…and I think Shaun Wilson will have a huge coming out party on MNF

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

    Love me some nasty o-linemen!

  7. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Our weakest link on the OLine is Benenoch, but he seems to hold his own for the most part, except when he is getting holding penalties.

But I think Benenoch can grow into that position.

Overall, I have really enjoyed seeing our offense being able to do what they intended to do, rather than settling for what the defense gives them. That is what Rex Ryan called “building a bully!”

Come play in our house, we choose the toys and we take them away when we want.

I am seriously rethinking my plan to miss the Browns game. That one will be good!

Ali Marpet has been lights out Jensen is making plays Donovan is good too i mean stout line just wish rojo would play …

Hoping Buc Luck will stay away and this OLine continues to jell.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jenson is great. I love how he picks a fight once per game to get things riled up.

But I have to wonder how long it takes for refs to hit him with an unsportsman like conduct penalty.

Winston did not have a line but managed to throw for 4,000 yard every year while being in the NFL. Just think about if he had a line like what we have now. He put up the points every game but the D-fence hurt us. Now we need to fix our running game please get Bell from the steelers.

  13. Robert Says:

he got a 15 yarders 1st drive in the igles game to kill the drive

    @ bonzai

  14. R.O. Says:

Teams have been daring the Bucs to throw the ball and putting the game in Fitz’s hands and keying on the run. When theyback off in to Deep Zones we will run at will.

  15. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

Shaun Wilson is ready! Give this man more offensive production. I think the o-line will steal the show this coming game producing bigger holes for Barber and Wilson. The Steelers are allowing over 150 yds rushing.

I hope Jones and Winston had been taking notes.

    Go Bucs!!!

  16. TOM Says:

C’mon people. Bennoch was man handled last week.

  17. Trench War Says:

I think if Koetter and Monken would do what Joe mentioned and run the ball from a spread offense, or shotgun our running game would get better. It would allow Barber to run in some space. When you telegraph the running play by using a bunch or goalline formation then the defense just stacks the box.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

Jensen’s penalty didn’t kill that drive…fletcher cox killed the drive….lol…..

unfortunately, I agree as well…lol….he was getting man handled but fletcher cox, jerrigan and ngata have done that to a lot of folks…lol….

I”ll deal with a penalty every few games if we get play like this on a constant basis.

This is hands down the best our o-line has looked since Logan Mankins was here, and it is the primary reason why we are having so much success on offense.

No way Fitz or any other QB is throwing for that many TDs and yards if they were still running for their lives like last season.

Now about the run blocking… interesting to hear Joe say the o-line needs to step it up to improve the run game (which I agree with), since last year all the running woes were blamed on a single RB, not on the o-line.

    What’s different? Hmmmm 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  21. SOEbuc Says:

Really not desperate for any other major positions at the moment. Top notch RG in first or second round in 2019. When was the last time Bucs had a dominant oline to protect any of our QBs in all of our classic horrible offenses. Always afraid Dot will start losing it cus of his age or get injured but he keeps at it year after year.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

“Top notch RG in round one or two in 2019”

More like 2-3 round. We should get a WR in the first.
