Fired Up Dirk Koetter

September 9th, 2018

Geeked over win.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter was one pumped up football coach.

In his postgame speech to his team and after awarding backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick the gameball, Koetter took to the soapbox, as seen on Buccaneers.com.

And folks, the “Us vs. Them” angle is in full force.

“It don’t matter how! It don’t matter how!” Koetter bellowed of the win. “Are you kidding me? Going on the road against that team, are you kidding me? We were the biggest underdog in the NFL today. It shows you what everybody on the outside knows about us.”

Koetter may have a bit of a point. All offseason he and the Bucs players were saying they had talent to win. And today, they showed that talent.

The Bucs offense played so much like the old San Diego Chargers that Ryan Fitzpatrick’s beard looks like Dan Fouts’.

Glad you finally opened it up coach and gave your talent on the O side of the ball to perform. Now get in Smith’s earand tell him to do the same thing! It may surprise you and Smith!

  2. Nprbuc Says:

    A chance to perform.

  3. Doctor Stroud Says:

To win a shootout against Drew Brees is impressive. This might be the new Buc Ball, but it no less heart attack-inducing!

  4. Not there yet Says:

That’s the best comparison you got? Who keeps talking about the old San Diego chargers from the 80’s at least give a comparison on the East coast

  5. BucTrooper Says:

New offensive play caller – completely different team

Same defensive play caller – still a dumpster fire

  6. Jimbob Says:

I think it does matter how you win. Bucs defense almost gave up a 24 point lead along with missing a critical field goal along the way. We can’t expect Fitz to produce at a heroic level consistently. He is just not that type of quarterback.

I like Koetter and Monken but M. Smith Defensive Scheme sucks. The Dline was not all that bad, especially against the run. Brees threw a bunch of quick outs so the Dline did not have enough time to get to the QB. This is why our sack #s will be low again this year. Smith needs to have his his DB play closer to the line and stop the quick slants and outs. We drafted two physical CBs and Hargreaves was cover corner in college. Why let the CB play so far off the line – because M. Smith scheme is based upon not giving up the big play. Well it did not work last year and it is not working this year. Teams have figured out Smith’s Defensive scheme.

you’d have to be pretty old to remember Dan Fouts. Joe, I’m sure you could have picked a more recent comparison for the young ones lol.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m always critical of Dirk. But he should be proud. Nobody..Not one of todays Broadcasters picked us. You go on the road and beat another team in this league speaks volumes. I got a little jittery towards the end. But we will take it. Just imagine though guys IF we ever truly get our DEFENSE together? ManO Man!
Just get about 25 to 50% better Defense. Thats all we are asking. Because we all know here, Our offense will not win the shootout every single game. Good start to the season. Lets shock the hell outta Philly!

Exactly. And if we don’t miss that FG we wouldn’t be beotching about the prevent D because the game would have and should have been over then!!!

  14. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

Would it be too much to ask Monken to call the plays on defense as well? Seriously though how about Buckner. Tape is out there now on both sides of the ball, while it’s gonna be almost next to impossible to slow this offense down, way to many weapons. If Ingram would’ve been out there today it may have been 60-48 Saints. I don’t know maybe the defense will be better when Vita and Grimes come back…. oh where was Noah Spence at today?

  15. JimmyJack Says:

I love to see the team fired up. One thing I remember is the defense getting pumped up after making a stop on the Saints in the first quarter

it’s easy to get fired up when you make it game-changing play late in the game but when you’re hold defense is jumping around after a first-quarter stop you know they are not going to shy away from physical play and fight all game long.

I love the attitude of this team!!

    GOO BUCS!!!!!

  16. Proudbucsfan Says:

I can honestly say that our offensive line is one of the best in the league. I have not seen them play like that since we won the Super Bowl. Outstanding, Allie Marpet, Donovan Smith, and Ryan Jenson are going to the pro bowl if they keep playing like that.

  17. BucNole Says:

we need more OJ and more DJ in the slot on slants

  18. SFNJ Says:

Joe…who got coach all pissed off with the play call question? I honestly don’t care who’s calling the plays or why it matters so much to anyone.

  19. Joe Says:

    SFNJ:

    Tom Jones.

To steal a line from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Blood, Sugar, Baby, Fitzmagic!”

Still wishing we had brought del rio in to help fix the defense.
