Brent Grimes Out For Sunday

September 14th, 2018

The official injury report is in and Brent Grimes’ bad groin kept him from practicing all week.

He will not play Sunday. Of course, rookie first-round pick Vita Vea has yet to practice. (Joe doesn’t understand why Vea isn’t always seen at practice. Joe would think he’d benefit from being around it as much as he could. Perhaps he’s rehabbing?)

DeSean Jackson was full participation today, and Jason Pierre-Paul was “limited. Both returned to practice yesterday.

Caleb Benenoch and Donovan Smith appear ready to roll.

Its starting to look like maybe Grimes robbed the Bucs this year

  2. K_Bassuka Says:

I think it’s about that time to move on from Grimes. He seems to get hurt at the worst possible times.

  3. jmarkbuc Says:

Vita Vea gets curioser and curioser…

  4. Buchead5588 Says:

It’s a long seasons let’s let our rookies gets some solid work on good competition Grimes will be back week 4 or week 6 after the bye that’s prolly Vita Vea timeline as well we have a week 5 bye we get Jameis back week 4 if we can have grimes Winston an Vea all come back around the same time I’m good with that

  5. Durango 95 Says:

This Grimes injury is starting to get on my last nerve. Vea is is no surprise. I never expected to see him until after the bye, anyway.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

With having the early bye-week, They will wait until after that!!!!! It give you an extra week to heal, which the more time he gets, lessens the chance of re-injuring!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Buchead5588 Says:

Glad we will see more M.J. this week Philly completed 9 passes for 45 yards to there WRs last week an 8 went to Nelson aghular for 33 so this is best time to get our Rookies in the game an I really feel like our DLine is going to crank up this week

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

Suit up Miko and send her a$$ out there.

  9. LakeLand Says:

I was expecting for Grimes to play

    A groin injury is serious

You can barely walk with a groin injury

Grade 1 recovery time- 2-3 weeks
Grade 2 recovery time- 2-3 months
Grade 3 recovery time- 4 months or more

  10. LakeLand Says:

*wasn’t expecting for Grimes to play

  11. Durango 95 Says:

I’m not sure we got an explanation of why Grimes wasn’t playing in the preseason, did we?

  12. Alphabucfan Says:

It’s a blessing in disguise. Rookies will get the much needed reps an grimes has a chance to rest that old body an get ready for the 2 half of the season wen we will need him most for that playoff push go bucs

  13. adam from ny Says:

vea can’t take the september heat and he’s staying out of the kitchen until october – team agrees

  14. adam from ny Says:

grimes is sitting on his ass using the wait and see approach…if the season’s a wash he can just chill like jameis…if the bucs don’t flop out record wise, he will be back to compete all year starting after the bye

  15. Defense Rules Says:

@Sarasota Garey … “Its starting to look like maybe Grimes robbed the Bucs this year.” As I recall, it was Licht & the Bucs who went begging to Brent Grimes to please please please play this year. For the $10 mil or so that Licht paid Grimes, he could’ve signed any number of other veteran CBs. But he wanted the 35-year-old Grimes. I don’t blame Brent for getting injured (that’d be kinda dumb) and I certainly don’t blame him for deciding to sign on for a cool $10 million. Lay the blame squarely where it deserves to be … on our GM.

    Retaining Grimes was a no-brainer.

  17. Deborah Hall Says:

Sarasota Garey: For your information my son does not rob
K_Bassuka: Do you think Brent wants to get hurt, go on and answer, I have time.
To all the other so-called fans with negative comments, Brent would never want to not play. Everyday he is running and back peddling at the facility. He can’t play until they let him. I am so glad he doesn’t read this mess.

  18. Joe Says:

grimes is sitting on his ass using the wait and see approach

Grimes is the consummate professional. If you only saw how he works, his dedication to the game, you wouldn’t type something that dumb.

  19. Max Says:

Not worried about Grimes in the slightest, he will be here when we need him and perform. Vea is the mystery, I hope we don’t have a Brian Price 2.0 situation on our hands.

  20. rrsrq Says:

Why does Vita Vea injury remind me of Brian Price

  21. Architek Says:

This has been a reoccurring theme for the past two years; no surprises here. Should’ve signed another vet CB early in FA.

  22. BucFanFromOH Says:

So glad we passed on Derwin James for Brian Price 2.0

  23. Bucamania Says:

Geez, Brian Price and his stapled hips. Man I hope not.

  24. Greg Says:

Deborah unfortunately thats what bloggers do! they do not represent buccaneer fans whatsoever. They get on blogs like this one so they can be rude and insulting and say things they don’t have the guts to say in real life. If you follow any TV or radio show they all have Internet sites for bloggers because they get clicks on the Internet and get paid for it. Joe built this website on fanning the flames for idiots to make their comments. Although he has not done that in the story.

  25. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Grimes will play when he’s able to. He’s easily our best CB and there’s no point in putting him back in too early. Groin injuries can linger. Better safe than sorry.

  26. ATLBuc Says:

    @Deborah Hall

Those are not real fans, just some negative nellies who like to have their opinions heard. Grimes has never displayed the type of character they’reattributing to him. As a true Bus fan, I’m sorry you had to read that garbage we have to tiptoe through to find intelligent comments

  27. adam from ny Says:

joe you know i joke around…it’s not that serious…don’t punk me man

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Grimes is a pro who loves to play football & knows he hasn’t much time left….how insulting it is for “fans to suggest otherwise.

  29. Durango 95 Says:

Fans are just frustrated with injuries and performance of the secondary. Feels like we’ve hardly seen Grimes in training camp and preseason and the team really needs him back on the field. Hence fan frustration.

  30. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Nothing to worry about with Vita or Grimer…. One of them may be our Secret Weapon…

Soon the Calgary will arrive and the secret weapon will reveal itself!!!

  31. adam from ny Says:

grimes in in pristine condition for his age…but that prostrate tho

  32. AceofAerospace Says:

Yeah, what mom said! Go Bucs. Hurry back Brent.

  33. adam from ny Says:

we don’t have grimey or the weed guy…we are playing the superbowl champs with rookies…if their qb pulls some bearded fitzmagic on us we’re gonna be like wtf, why are we 1-1?…sunday is serious…we can either thump or get thumped

  34. adam from ny Says:

it’s actually a shame we are having all these d-back issues…hopefully grimes is back in action real soon, as he is one of, if not the best athlete on the team…and hopefully hargreaves is on the mend soon as well…he was looking like he was ready for a bounce back year…go bucs!…let’s whoop up on that philly azz…just like when ronde shut down the vet back in the day, before we balled out on the choke-land raiders

  35. Miguel Grande Says:

They tried to make Vea go to rehab
    He said, no, no, no
    Yes, He’s been black
But when He comes back, you’ll know, know, know
    He got the time
And if his coach thinks he’s fine
They tried to make Vita go to rehab
    He said, no, no, no*

*please note to Vita Vea”s mom, I’m just kidding and Miguel Grande is not my real name. Don’t want to get my ass kicked by an angry Polynesian woman.

  36. Miguel Grande Says:

**My real name is Greg Schiano and I live in Columbus, Ohio

  37. Wausa Says:

    Joe:
I understand; to a point, the team being coy about injuries, but this is an entertainment industry and fans want to at least have a realistic idea of where things stand on the highest paid DB on the team and the team’s 1st round draft pick(Derwin James played great on opening day btw).

  38. Joe Says:

    They don’t care.

With Grimes, only the psychopaths believe there is something sinister at work with Grimes. He’s a pro. No need to worry.

Vita is another matter. Then again, re-read first sentence of Joe’s reply. 🙁

  39. Wesley Says:

    AWESOME!!

  40. adam from ny Says:

you’d think we’d sign reggie mcclain…he didn’t have a half bad season for us last year and he’s still a free agent

  41. Kobe Faker Says:

“LOL! White boys are so gulible!”

    Miko Grimes

  42. cmurda Says:

Wow. Lots of hate toward Grimes. Has anyone here ever had a groin injury? I certainly doubt it. Grimes isn’t robbing anybody. He’s always been a class act and always will. The same people dogging this man will be singing his praises when he returns to help this defense.

  43. donuts Says:

With Jefferies (WR1) out for the Eagles, Grimes absence is less of an issue. I am more worried about Kwon and David ability to cover Ertz. If Kwon takes bad angles again like he did in 1Q of the last game, Ertz could get a few TDs early.

  44. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Retaining Grimes was a no-brainer.” As I remember Joe, Brent wasn’t even sure he wanted to play another year. I love having him on the team, but even you have said we need another veteran CB. Plus, with the money that Licht paid Brent Grimes to play another year, he could’ve signed any number of younger veteran CBs when FA started. So right now we’re left with 3 rookies, Ryan Smith & a newly-signed FA (Williams) who more than likely doesn’t know the defense yet.

And as far as ‘no need to worry’ goes, none of us have any idea when Grimes will be back. Same with Vea. Same with Unrein. Same with Beckwith. But you’re right, we don’t need to worry, not as long as we’ve got Scapegoat Smitty, the human piñata, to blame for the defense’s poor performances.

  45. cmurda Says:

@ D Rules. I agree on everything except for Williams being a concern not knowing this defense. Every team we play seems to have no problem knowing what our defense will do. I think Williams being the vet that he is will have this defense picked up within a few days.

  46. donuts Says:

“Derwin James played great on opening day btw”

    Really??

Last time, I checked KC lite them up for 38 and most of it was passing. Considering James is the safety, I would not exactly say he played great by giving up 169 yards to T Hill on 7 receptions- thats means they went deep often. I am aware that he had a couple of good plays (sack)….but 2 tackles and 2 pass def thats far from great. 2 Highlights dont win rings or post season chances.

  47. stpetebucsfan Says:

I don’t know about Unrein…I worry about his possible CTE after 3 concussions.

But Vea will come back after the bye along with Grimes and JW.

We have the very real possibility…especially our defense…of being much better the final 8 games than the first 8…Grimes and Vea will provide some much needed depth and hopefully spark….three promising rookie DB’s will have been tested to the max and experienced by those final 8.

If we can get to the other side of the bye at 2-2 we’re set to make a true playoff run.
