Brent Grimes Returns To Practice Today!

September 20th, 2018

Grimes talks about his injury and the team

UPDATED: 12:24 p.m. – Man, it feels like everything is breaking the Bucs’ way.

Joe has all the happy comments from Brent Grimes in the locker room moments ago.

When the locker room opened for media, Grimes was there and was swarmed. He missed the first two games with a groin injury suffered a few days before opening day.

“I’m feeling good,” Grimes said, adding that he’s ready for full-go work. “I’m feeling good now. So I’m going to go through this week of practice and hopefully have some fun on Monday night.”

Asked how the groin injury happened, Grimes said it was nothing unique.

“Just playing football, honestly. It’s just a groin strain; it wasn’t major,” Grimes said. “But as you know with muscle pulls, if you don’t let it heal, it will nag you until you let it heal. So the training staff did a good job letting me get it all the way right. Now I just got to do my thing make it through this weekend and play on Monday night.”

No surprise, Grimes’ voice lit up when asked about the Bucs’ 2-0 record and the phenomenon of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“I’m very proud. It’s very fun to watch. It’s cool. It’s exciting. It’s paying off the work we put in in camp,” Grimes said.

On Fitzpatrick, Grimes said, “He’s the man. He’s doing his thing. .. There’s just something about him that when he gets going it’s a good thing. And we’re paying those dividends right now. It’s really cool to watch.”

Grimes did caution that all that fun is on the past and the Bucs are in a one-game-at-a-time mode.

And barring a setback, they’ll do the next game with the No. 1 cornerback.

That is great news! Vita better be right behind him!

  6. Robert Says:

He’s a baller. I don’t think he’s the type to just come in to collect a check.

Hope he stays healthy though and the new guys keep getting reps. (provided we’re up in the game)

  7. Durango 95 Says:

    Great news!

  8. Pickgrin Says:

Glad to have you back Brent.

    New Rule:

$7M for 14 games = No more Miko supervised “groin exercises” – just for the next 15+ weeks.
OK – Well maybe sneak one in there after the Chicago game….

    Fair enough?

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Just in time for AB

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

Well of course, if we were 0-2 we wouldn’t see him until after the bye week.

  11. Jim Says:

Go Brent! Go Fitz! Go Bucs!

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t know how many times you have to be told, Vea isn’t playing until at least after the bye. Don’t even ask. The moment that guy steps on the practice field, you will know it. Trust me.

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Any VV sighting?

Or is he still in the super secret underground facility?

  14. ChanEpic Says:

    @pickgrin: LOL, well done.

    Who is Vita Vea?
    ——————————————————————————————-
You know, that mythical “beast” called Tevita Tuliʻakiʻono Tuipulotu Mosese Vaʻhae Fehoko Faletau

  20. JimmyJack Says:

813 hate to break it to ya but Smitty will probably go with a bunch of off coverage this game.

If you try to cheat up on their receivers you are likely going to pay big time.

What I wanna see is how our rush D works. They don’t have Bell but they can run block and Conner has been very effective

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmyjack

yeah I hear you…the things is, their WR’s can gain tons of YAC…..so if we play off those slants and quick screens could do some damage…..

I would prefer tighter coverage because big ben can be inaccurate….making the throwing windows smaller gives us a chance to get a pick or 2 or 5…lol….

but I agree, I wanna see the pass rush turn up a notch….run defense has been pretty good so im not too worried about conner….he wont beat us by himself….

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Realbucfan941 Says:

What Jimmy said.. At least decastro is out.

  23. Trench War Says:

    great news

  24. Dewey Selmon Says:

I have to wonder if Grimes if 100%, the Steelers WR are no joke and they throw AB short passes to avoid the pass rush. Still early in the season and our rookies on defense have gained valuable experience already that will pay off in Nov/Dec.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

I just hope jesse james doesn’t have a field day vs conte like ertz did…..that was embarrassing…..lol….

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  26. Bucamania Says:

Good to gave Grimes back! I’ve given up on asking about Vita Vea.

  27. Radsy Says:

I’m interested to see if Conte is a full go today. I love me some Whitehead

  28. BucsBandit Says:

813 – what is this “Tunnelvision” mean that you keep posting?

  29. Robert Says:

    “I love me some Whitehead”

    racist 🙂

  30. Rick Says:

Just got an alert that Vita Vea is back in pads? Greg auman Twitter.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    bandit

“tunnelvision” is the tendency to focus exclusively on a single or limited goal or point of view.

translation, focus on beating this weeks opponent and everything else….not Winston, not fitzmagic not distraction…..take it week by week…game by game….

you’ve never heard of that phrase in sports?…..maybe im ol school….lol….my coaches use to tell us that all the time…..

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  32. Big Stinky Says:

Great news! We are going to need him against the Steelers WR’s.

  33. Godeep66 Says:

This guy will play 8 games this year. Picking up a check. His time has passed.

  34. Kobe Faker Says:

“I think the key of the game has to be stopping James connor and making them 1 dimensional. If they can do both, both teams might hit 40 pts ala week 1”

    Kobe Faker

  35. gambelero Says:

Conte practicing normally, but with his knee rapped. Hard to judge safety play without reviewing the all-22 specifically for that that position, but he looked like he was playing lights out when he got crack-backed, 7 tackles in about half a game. We don’t play a traditional strong-free safety system, but he was rolled up to the line of scrimmage on run downs, but when we went single high, he regularly switched out to play the deep safety.

It looked like we didn’t respect Foles ability to go long. Safeties played up a lot. Linebackers run blitzed with safeties covering inside gaps and corners pressed. As the game evolves, you have a lot of college-spread-trained QBs in the game now. These guys only want to throw slants, quick bubbles, dumpoffs and screens. At Next Gen Stats they have statistics on how far down the field a quarterback throws (CAY and IAY), Winston was second in the league last year (behind Watson) and Fitz is second this year (behind Mahomes). My prediction is that defensive coordinators are catching up to the bubble screen/slant throwers. Of the 27 QBs drafted in the first round since 2010 only 13 are regular starters for their teams. And three of five of Mariota, Carr, Tannehill, Bortles and Trubisky will not be starters two years from now and two of five of Goff, Allen, Darnold, Luck and Mayfield won’t be starters two years from now.

  36. Desertbucsfan Says:

    Yes this is great news.

    Go get them Brent!

    Looking better every week.

    Vita is back. Yeah.

    Go Bucs
