Seems Like The CBS Team Got To Dirk Koetter

August 25th, 2018

Injury updates

Detailed injury news is often hard to come by at One Buc Palace because Dirk Koetter is adamant about not sharing unless the NFL tells him he must — and that doesn’t happen in preseason.

However, the CBS television crew seemed to get some intelligence out of One Buc Palace.

Via the broadcast last night, announcers noted how much Koetter really didn’t want to talk much about injuries during their pregame chat. But then a graphic appeared on the screen showing that guard Ali Marpet was out with an ankle injury against the Lions, and fellow guard Caleb Benenoch has a knee issue to go along with Donovan Smith’s bad knee.

Those were the first specifics Joe had heard for Benenoch and Marpet, and they’re not good news. Knees are always dicey and Marpet has had multiple ankle issues in his brief career.

Joe will hope for the best. The Bucs cannot afford for Marpet to have a lingering injury — and neither can Marpet in a contract year.

Is Vita Vea still on the team?

  2. Stanglassman Says:

I was looking for questions to no avail in lasted nights presser regarding Marpet’s injury. At least getting a timetable on his return. It would be nice to know if it was the same ankle or something new. Was Koetter like this the last two preseasons as head coach?

  3. R.O. Says:

Yeah because no ther teams draft picks are hurt and not playing nor practicing.. dumb@ss.

  4. Owlykat Says:

The good news is our first team Offense and Defense still whipped the Lion’s first strings despite all our injury absences. We only lost the game because the Lions kept their first strings into the third quarter and scored against our second string defense.

I’m not a Glazer so I hate to even have this thought…but…

JW is going to play lights out this year. Because of the “incident” his earning power will be somewhat diminished. He’ll still cash in but probably not at the level he would have if his off field deeds matched his on field play.

Donovan Smith was/is going to cash in big time as a starting LT in the NFL.
It’s his contract year…a lingering injury may depress his salary as well.

Ditto for Ali Marpet. His contract year he needs to be healthy to MAXIMIZE his salary demands.

So while it might suckk for Buc’s fans it could actually help the Glazers expense sheet.

BTW Of course I take ZERO pleasure in this. It’s not my money LOL
I hope all three play lights out and cash in to the max.

  6. TOM Says:

We lost because the reserves in the 4th quarter were horrendous. They should all be cut.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Even though it is very frustrating not to receive injury information on players, I can certainly understand several reasons why coaches are reluctant to share it…..That doesn’t seem like it’s going to change so we’ll simply have to get used to it.

  8. Buc believer Says:

Joe from where I sit a Buc had to be carted off the field during pre game warmups. Who was it and what was the injury? How the hell do you get carted off during warmups?

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Gee Tom

They prolly will be…you can only keep 63

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

Has Igwebuike ever made it on the field?

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Believer

    Sergio Bailey

  12. Buc believer Says:

    @jmark… thanks

  13. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Stan, yes he was. Telling everyone, including other teams, about injuries and who will play week 1 wouldn’t be a sound strategy. The best course is to keep other teams guessing until we absolutely HAVE to talk about timetables of injured players returning. It sucks for us fans to not know, but I’d rather not know and have the other teams also not know than to have more time for opponents to build gameplans to exploit our backups.

They have to put something down on the injury report I’m not to worried there not just putting down a blank

  15. Buchead5588 Says:

An to make it better our O line played pretty good last night

  16. Godeep66 Says:

    2-14

  17. Godeep66 Says:

Make that 2-13-1. Tiebwith the Browns 3-3.

  18. firethecannons Says:

agree with Tom–4th string was awful and add Mike Smith 4th quarter awful as well
agree with OwlyKat that our first team both sides whipped ass

  19. JB Says:

Ali is completely fine. Will be ready to dominate in NO. Take it to the bank.

  20. Gambelero Says:

I have to agree with TOM. A lot of our third and fourth string guys need to be cut. I told the Glazers that Licht, Koetter and his coaches are going to need to cut 37 of those guys. They whined and complained, but I stood firm. By next Saturday, they have to go from 90 to 53. Otherwise, I’m going to take away their allowance of brothel tokens.

They can re-sign about a dozen guys, 10 of whom are developmental prospects, to the practice squad.

  21. AlteredEgo Says:

“Has Igwebuike ever made it on the field?”…yes…I was at the game had he had more than a few snaps in the second half…made a few plays

  22. P’cola Buc Says:

Many people are “signed” in the preseason as “camp meat” almost all who played in the 4th quarter last night will not make the final cut.

  23. P’cola Buc Says:

Those who played in the 4th quarter will almost all be gone after they fulfill their duties as “camp meat”!

  24. Doctor Stroud Says:

Look guys, I can diagnose injuries hundreds of miles away from my air conditioned office at the St Pete Times, and now more than ever because that other Bucs Beat reporter, Greg Auman, is gone. I predict more “dreaded boots”, “floppy hats”, and “mysterious” and “lingering” injuries. Players just come to the Bucs to get injured. It’s a Bucs life. It’s just ingrained in the locker room culture at One Buc Place. Enjoy the season! #PaidFloridaVacation

“Is Vita Vea still on the team?”

Don’t you worry about Vea. By the end of this season everyone will not care that he’s missed the preseason.

He’ll be back on the field week one or two, and everyone will be surprised when he plays like he never left the field.

  26. Marc Says:

Everyone is writing this loss off on the “camp meat” in the 4th quarter, but what does that say about our D-coordinator, who had the lead when it was “camp meat” v “camp meat” time.

  27. Tony L.A. Says:

    Hey, remember me…
    The guy who screamed…

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!!

Remember how I said the Bucs did great on the D-line but were WOEFULLY thin on the O-line?

Remember when I said the Bucs desperately needed another quality interior lineman and a swing tackle (and that was before they cut Sweezy)?

    Remember?

Licht is doing the exact same thing with the O-line this year that he did last year – he’s banking on a best-case-scenario-only for the Bucs to have a decent line. That will never happen just like injuries decimated the D-line last season.

    Live and learn.
Or don’t and let the next regime try and fix it.

  28. Cobraboy Says:

Absolutely no need to play any of those guys if they were tweaked at all.

The only focus should be September 9.

  29. Mike Johnson Says:

Bad omens here. marpet and smith are essentials on our Line. I’m hopin they are ready by game one. And my man Vita..Whats up with him? 2 Fill-ins played great on O line last night. They have definitely made the team

  30. feelthepewterpower Says:

Depends if it is high or low ankle that is bothering him. Marpet will likely be fine.

I won’t be surprised by Vea. However, don’t expect him to rack up stats…Expect him to rack up blockers. The guy is a monster and will let the others eat whether run or pass.

  32. Billy_43 Says:

4th Qtr wasn’t camp meat against camp meat AT ALL.

Blunt was in the game in the 4th Qtr and a lot of their starters were still playing when Martino made his TD catch.

Patricia looked like he was gonna cry if he lost and was completely embarrassed by the kick 6 after trying a 62 yarder. What a moron.

  33. reality-is-a-beotch Says:

most of the buccaneer Starters would be camp meat on the majority of NFL teams. the basement streak is alive and well.

  34. BucEmUp Says:

Well the drama and suspense sure seems to.keep everyone o their toes lol.

Most of these guys will be ready to go.in New Orleans. Koetter is playing his cards right..Every team has hurt players. This is being blown up . My biggest concern REMAINS the type of coverage our corners are playing. Everything else will work.itself out. I also expect Monken to be calling plays. Anther thing Koetter is trying to spin..

Let’s worry about the real problems(problem)…..MIKE SMITH!

  35. SOEbuc Says:

Not worried about Ali I think they were keeping him fresh for game one
