O.J. Howard Living Up To Hype

August 4th, 2018

Kicking tail in camp and talking to Joe.

Maybe Bucs coach Dirk Koetter should throw more players public praise if this is the result?

Two days ago, Koetter raved about the training camp second-year tight end O.J. Howard is having and said Howard is “far, far ahead” of where he was at any time last year as a rookie.

Howard has been making some sick plays but none matched what he did yesterday.

Howard was heading right to left down field when backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw him the rock that was a tad overthrown and certainly thrown behind Howard.

So what did Howard do? No biggie. He just reached back with his left hand and pulled it back to his body.

If that happened in a game, NFL Films would be showing that play for years to come.

The way Howard is performing in training camp, he’s due to blow up this season.

Worst pick in the first round? Joe’s arse!

Joe asked Howard yesterday about Koetter’s powerful praises and Howard agreed with them.

“I do feel like that’s true because every year you want to get better, so things I didn’t know last year at this time I know now,” Howard said.

“I’m very good at taking criticism. I think that’s the only way you get better,” Howard added, noting that he’s committed to cleaning up his footwork in route-running and becoming more of a beastly blocker.

    The anti-ASJ. Love it.

  2. Jman5 Says:

Nike should give him Jameis old contract. Since you know, they dropped JaBoob

  3. Chris watson Says:

U have the worst Defense in the league and you draft a TE in the 1st round when the TE you have lead the NFL in TDs is pretty dumb LOL LOL, but hes still a very good player.

    THanks Jason licht SMH SMH

One of the most underutilized players in Alabama history it was criminal. He runs a faster shuttle than Kalil Mack, identical forty to David Johsnon, and faster three cone than Tyler Lockett….all this AT Gronk’s height, weight, and wingspan. He’s the best TE coming out of college, and we need to find ways to get him the ball, specifically downfield and in the redzone. Alabama would usually on get him the ball in ten yards or less and just let him used his athleticism to just generate more yards after the catch. Have to get OJ involved vertically….with all the receivers we have, are they going to double djax, evans, or Howard?????? One of the three can take over a game at any time………..

O.J. Howard Living Up To Hype

Well maybe you should enjoy the praise while you can, apparently hype is only reserved for training camp around these parts. Scared to hype up cornerbacks and rookies having good camps but sure let’s over hype the guys in training camp that are having good camps basically because this is their second year going up against this defense they know so well.

Please stop the hype nonsense in training camp even before the first preseason game especially since your so deathly afraid of the saints and the other two teams in the first quarter of the season.

  6. Kobe Faker Says:

    Lol!

If only Klueless knew how to use this type of explosive player

OJ howard has HOF talent and potential but it is being wasted in Klueless hands

“I just love the way OJ blocks…I accidentally called him OJ Stocker”

    Klueless Koetter

  7. Buc believer Says:

OH LMAO!!!! There is Jman5 again in another thread!! Seriously dude or Dudess (so not to be labeled a sexist) you HAVE to stop with these funny posts about the best quarter back and the man who will lead us to many Super Bowls! You are making me laugh so hard this morning! 🙄

  8. jbâ„¢ Says:

Too bad Brate will be taking so many of OJ’s targets, unless Dirk can figure out how to use them together. Imagine the 2 TE sets we could run OR pass out of with those two at TE!

Hype? Huh? OJ Howard had one of the best rookies seasons for a Tight End….and that’s after blocking on like greater than 50 percent of snaps playing alongside Brate he played the first six games or so, and then missing the final two games due to injury. There’s no hype about OJ, he’s legit.

    @ chris watson

You draft the best player available. What is the use in drafting a defensive player if he cant play when you have a bonafide baller in oj howard staring you in the face. You dont draft defense just to draft defense. Thank god you are not the gm.

  11. Bobby Says:

    ^^^ What he said.

  12. Jeffbuc Says:

If this converts into great regular season play. I could see us trading brate to a tight end needy team like the chargers. Go a Kings ransom. Because if Howard lives up to his potential there is no reason to be paying another tight end a boat load of money when you have O.J. under team friendly contract for 4 more years. I doubt the 5th option will be to high. So that is what I’m liking about this team. We are starting to see talent behind talent. Like the patriots and other teams trading there veterans for high draft picks because a young player has surpassed that player. That’s how he good teams stay relevant have a continued talent pool

  13. Back2bucball Says:

I’m hello, they are not going to trade brate ! They just signed him to a contract extension & coach loves his 2te sets! Watch how it all unfolds this year.. I’m telling us.. Go bucs.. Across the board we have the most talent on offence and defence in the NFC south and don’t be surprised when we win the division this year.. There I said it

  14. Godeep66 Says:

@webster aka Alex Karas sidekick: was the 2ND kicker the best available a couple of years ago???? You attack every poster on this site but know nothing about football!!!

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

Now lets hope jw3 stops staring down CB84 and ME13 and start throwing “accurate” balls to open play makers, will fix the scoring woes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

    Rhealist,

I agree with that post 100%!!!!!!!!

I’m excited for Fitz to get this offense hummin (just by being accurate and making good decisions), and then we’ll see where it goes after Jameis comes back…

We have the talent to make a Superbowl run this year, that much I know.

  17. Not there yet Says:

It’s all hype and I have an o.j. Howard Jersey number 1 and 2 I think your exaggerating having the best rookie season for a tight end. Like over exaggerating my friend. It’s not his fault dork didn’t use him until the team was desperate to move the ball. And I don’t care what kind of stats anyone puts up when my team goes 5-11. What do you think stats really mean when your team is always losing? Wins and losses that’s all I care about.

  18. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Some of you people act like Fitzy is so much more accurate than Jameis. Check out his life time stats even tho stats are for losers. They’d show you he’s not and he’s also got the penchant for throwing interceptions.

As for Jameis staring down certain receivers please, alot of qbs do it’s called trust. You forget he trusts Humphries also. Jameis does a good job of spreading the ball around. Dirk doesn’t call enough slants and crossing routes but OJ is great in the seam as is Brate.
