Glue In More Than One Way
August 9th, 2018Bucs coach Dirk Koetter likes to talk about players he calls “glue guys.”
These are players that may not be flashy, may not be Pro Bowlers, but good solid, sturdy dependable guys. Foundation builders.
One of those is Adam Humphries. The fourth-year Bucs receiver is more than just a glue guy. He has hands of glue as well.
In the NFL last season, Humphries had the sixth-highest catch percentage, pulling in 73.5 percent of passes targeted to him.
Of course, Humphries led the Bucs in this category as well.
This is just another reason Joe is confident Humphries could start for a lot of NFL teams. But the Bucs are just that deep at receiver.
Given the Bucs’ history at receiver, it blows Joe’s mind to type the previous paragraph.

Humphries has caught damn near everything thrown his way ever since he got here as a UDFA in 2015. This consistency caused him to stick out in that 1st training camp and is also why he made the team as an undrafted rookie against very long odds.
Barely recruited out of high school – buried on the depth chart at Clemson – None of Hump’s measurables indicate “NFL player”. Yet here he is 4 years later making $3M this year. Forcing his way onto the field through his play amidst the best group of receivers in the whole league.
Because you can’t measure heart nor will to be a great football player.
Which is exactly what Adam Humphries is. A short, slowish, constantly over-achieving white boy that “can’t jump” wide receiver – who does nothing but MAKE PLAYS on an NFL field. Day in and day out – week to week and year to year. You know what you are getting in Adam Humphries and that is a consistently good football player!

Hump is the kind of guy a well known old man in the Boston area is looking for! Great TEAM player, very glad to see him wearing pewter and red. And Cam Brate is from the same mold!

I can see Bucs trading hump to pats or something similar

Want to see him become a Pro-Bowler? Trade him to the Patriots.

One of the best hands in the NFL. Great route runner but measureables will keep him from being more than an outstanding #3. He just does not have elite speed or height needed to make the next jump.

Alabama
Agree with your take. Given his lack of “measurables” he’s made up for it by as you point out his great hands.
Hands like that are a gift and that’s what’s keeping Hump in the league.
Remember that great football movie North Dallas 40? Nick Nolte played the aging wide receiver who was hanging on because of his gifted hands.

not a hater but he’s alright….he’s expendable….trade hump for a tackle or future pick and sign Richie incognito!!!!!….bobo and reedy have more upside….

The most underrated player on the roster…..by miles!!!!!

6th highest catch % in the NFL yet some morons think he is easily replaceable by Martino and Bobo.

He is faster than Welker or Amendola as well for the “Slow” people out there.

Sticky hands except when he fumbles in his own territory to give the game away.

Hump seems to find the open spot more times than not, I’d like to see his sticky hands stay around.

glue guys don’t win games talented guys do… Humphries could not make another nfl roster yet low standard buc fan speaks of him like he is a weapon or the next Terrell Owens.

“Slowish.” Have you watched him in screen passes? He is plenty fast for a slot receiver type.
August 9th, 2018 at 11:35 am
Spotted the Hump in his first pre-season game. He wasn’t real big or fast, but he caught every pass thrown his way OVER THE MIDDLE. A walk-on, undrafted rookie receiver doing this?????????? Yeowsir! Been a fan ever since. Go Bucs!!

RUDY!!!!!!!!! love this guy and he is our best clutch player IMO.

Joe, is the caption a nod to the early ‘70s Stones’ album, “Sticky Fingers”?

Casey – Humphries is 5′-10″ – 194 lbs – and runs a 4.53 40. That is pretty much the definition of “slowish” for an NFL WR.
Humphries is quick in tight spaces – but he’s certainly not “fast” running down the field.
It is what it is. Hump does an amazing job with his God given talents and is a real asset to the team.
