Flashback To The Beginning
August 15th, 2018When the Bucs were great, it was easy to trace the genesis of the team from the Yucs to Super Bowl contenders.
That was the day Father Dungy came to Tampa Bay.
Yesterday, Tony Dungy held court for members of the local Fourth Estate on the day he was feted for his induction into the Bucs’ Ring of Honor next month.
When Dungy was hired in 1996, he held a team meeting telling the players how things were going to be accomplished.
Fast-forward over two decades later and Dungy said he got the same feeling when he addressed the current Bucs’ roster yesterday for roughly 20 minutes.
So Joe asked Dungy about the reception he got from today’s players. The Hall of Fame coach suspected it was positive.
“It is hard to say but pretty good,” Dungy said. “I think they recognize who you are and the fact that what you are saying does has some validity and some history behind it.
“It was great. It was fun for me. It brought back memories for me of the first time [spoke to the players] in ’96 and speaking to that team about what we wanted to do and how to do it. And it was the same advice, 22 years later.”
If somehow Dungy’s words move the Bucs to rack up wins, then Team Glazer should do the smart thing and hire Dungy for no other reason than to speak to the team on a weekly basis.
Whatever it takes, this losing nonsense has to come to a halt. If Dungy can help, cut the man a check… or cut a check to one of his charities.

President of Football Operations

Also, Gruden ran off Rich McKay, who has led the success of the Atlanta franchise versus the demise of the Tampa frachise….Gruden hated him, called him “lawyer boy.”

McKay didn’t work out as GM with the Falcons…Authur Blank moved him to some other position in the organization

Got a promotion. President. Also got Blank a new crib.

“Got a promotion. President. Also got Blank a new crib.”….
whatever….there were “issues” with some of Falcon personal decisions while he was GM…

Yup. Kicked upstairs.

Bring him back to the Bucs. The Dungy years were the best ever. I remember the feeling in the stands when the Bucs took the field. It was ELECTRIC. I was there, lived it, breathed it. It made me a season ticket holder. Bring him back to the Bucs.

What’s going on? Where is all our crappy negative “fans”? Normally all these ladies run in packs and blow up the message boards. I know I know. All us real fans who choose to root for the team and talk positives are not living in reality. Blah blah blah. Guess they all out restocking tampons. Did hear spend a lot of time together your cycles will be he same. Don’t forget to get super size ya big bunch of itches. Finally for my real fans. Go Bucs!!!!!! Next up Titans. 123 dominate!!!!! Playoff bound

@Stanglassman
All I know is last year we did really well against the Jags in joint practices; and moved the ball easily on their starting defense in preseason; so I duno what this would even mean anymore lol
GO BUCS!!

Greatest coach, by far, in Buccaneer history, and if you disagree, you’re a dope whose opinion doesn’t matter.

What Rod said

Lord Cornelius-
I remember it that way too but just read a comment here on a JBF yesterday someone saying how badly the Bucs got ‘mauled’ at the jags joint practices. The point of these joint practices are to get in some good work against some different looks and stay healthy. I don’t know how much you can use it as a barometer on the season outcome.
I see Joe posted an article on the practice. I only ask because JBF is usually the 1st to post. Appreciate all the hard work JBF!

@Stanglass
For sure man. I just was remembering this today which is why I brought it up. I want to see the notes regardless for my fix tho lol

I agree Joe, sign him up!!!

He can also teach Mike and Dirk a thing or two about coaching for success.

joe
how about an article on the PATHETIC 2 playoff wins in 6 years and the fact he wasted a hall of famer like sapp… nah let’s just keep the legend of a mediocrity of a failed one-dimensional coach rolling… facts are irrelevant. all about feelings and trophies for at the PC JBF….

Reality:
Joe doesn’t want to urinate on a guy on his day. Joe already mentioned why Dungy was run.

I was in a business back during the 90’s where I had some of the Buccaneer players as my clients and got to hear their impression of what was going on during Dungy’s initial season.
Even prior to the team beginning to win games, the players I interacted with had a rock solid certainty that the team would turn around, and given the recent history of the team, that left a deep impression on me back at that time.

🙂
I miss coach Dungy.
Also, when I heard the news that Rich McKay was leaving the Bucs, it felt like a bad omen. Gruden and his damn ego. Thank goodness some good came in 2002.
President of Football Operations makes a lot of sense. I don’t think anyone has ever groomed more coaching talent than TD.
