Bucs Going Digital (For One Night)
August 30th, 2018Joe understands more and more people have cut the cord on cable and satellite services because they are just outpricing themselves. With Netflix and Amazon Prime, one can get just as much entertainment if not more for a much less expensive price.
But sports? Well, baseball and hockey are easy to find online, just by buying MLB or NHL streaming packages. With those subscriptions, one can watch out-of-market games to his heart’s content. Live.
However, the NFL is behind the times. One must sign up for a cable package to watch live games online, provided a person can have a dish on their crib.
Maybe in 20 years the NFL will allow folks the ability to watch games live online without the requirement of a satellite service?
Per Carmen Vitali of Buccaneers.com, the Bucs are trying to do a solid for fans this evening. The Bucs will unlock the gates and stream tonight’s AAF job fair fourth preseason game live on both Buccaneers.com and the Bucs’ official app.
Those watching online will get the same WFLA-TV Channel 8 feed as will those watching on traditional television.
The streaming of the game will only be made available in select TV markets, which include Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Orlando, Daytona, Melbourne, Tallahassee, Fort Myers, Naples, Gainesville, Pensacola and Panama City. The only out-of-state markets the live stream will be available will be Huntsville and Mobile in Alabama.

Lol yea right behind the times you say joe? I dont live in tampa I’m in pa and I havent missed a game in years and I dont have Sunday ticket either (shrugs shoulders) the NFL is doing a fantastic job imo they should have a single team packages to buy for out of state fans. I’m not getting some crappy dish and not giving the NFL any of my money for their crappy owners to pocket. My streams have been just fine cough reddit cough.

Sling Box is the way to go for me to steam when I’m at of town to catch the local broadcast

Joe is not interested in crap quality pirated streams full of malware.
August 30th, 2018 at 12:23 pm
@Knucknbuc
Some of us prefer to watch games in HD and not illegal streams at 480p.
August 30th, 2018 at 12:27 pm
Too bad doesn’t help me up here in the boonies.
I pay for the regular season games for the three or four weeks I remain out of town. Once I get back to St. Pete it’s a moot point. I refuse to pay for the NFL preseason package. PS games are a big ripoff. They should give them away to promote the regular season…but I get it…let’s squeeze every last dollar out of Joe sports fan.

I’ve been able to listen to Gene and Dave Moore off of the Bucs app. It’s always a blast. Gene gets so excited you can’t tell who has the ball or who made the tackle, or even whether it was a touchdown catch, incompletion or interception. But I love Gene anyway, his passion makes up for the other stuff.

Go to the bar, much better to talk crap with other fans.

I have cut the chord except for wifi and have struggled last year with watching the Bucs game with a crappy antenna and will share what had finally worked for me in hoping that it may help my fellow Joe’s out there.
1. Because I have the wifi through my cable provider i can still put in my cable acct info and get free streaming through most phone/tv sports apps (nbc sports, watch espn, to name a few) with apple tv or most smart tv’s and Amazon tv firesticks you can broadcast it to your tv, if you don’t have the apps on there already, and it may work for you too.
2. I found a great 150 range antenna that is rated for use in attics (no HOA problems and for around $40) and have it tied in to my cable spliter in the attic so now all my cable outlets can get WFLA/NBC CBS, and Fox in HD quality. (these 2 steps will have you covered for this whole season for BUCS games) I use the apps as a back up to the antenna when the weather gets crazy in Tampa and use the antenna mostly because sometimes the streaming isn’t that great with some apps. There is a few apps for your smart phone to find the closest antennas in you area and where to point them to get the best signal, just google search them.
3. Bonus …other games and sports and much cheaper cable bill, these have worked for me for the last 4 moths and Bucs games through out the preseason (test phase) and will be able to get all the Bucs games this year plus what ever games that will be on the channels I have through antenna or the apps that are being shown.

If all TV was free there’d be no quality TV imo. Meaning no one pays anything. Not even the networks to the actors that work there or anyone else.
Free for everyone. Everything free. Even all streaming movies and TV shows….. Yeeeeah!!!
Everyone gets everything for free….can’t wait for shows to start sucking!
August 30th, 2018 at 12:44 pm
oops *150 mile range antenna
August 30th, 2018 at 12:48 pm
Sounds like a large streaming pile of crap.
August 30th, 2018 at 1:09 pm
Yea, so I live in Sarasota and have Comcast Xfinity. We are in Colorado each August and cannot get preseason games………EVEN THOUGH…….I have the Xfinity app on my ipad and it shows Channel 8 Tampa available and the game icon.
But when the game is actually started, the app must know I am not in Florida and I cannot view the game. And the only way I can HEAR the game is thru buccaneers.com. And that sometimes drops out during the game.
You would think that paying Comcast and able to view the game in Sarasota, why not be able to view it anywhere? I don’t get it. Grrrrrrrr…..
Anyone got any ideas besides maybe Slingbox at $300?
August 30th, 2018 at 1:21 pm
Not much of a “solid”. I’m up here in VA. WTH Bucs? If you’re going to do something..friken do it. This half-ass crap just pisses us off.

I have the NFL Game Pass streaming service. It is limited to non-US locations for the regular season. Unless the deal with Direct TV goes south, I’d be surprised if it is ever offered in the US.

Misery needs company: the antennas sucks

“PS games are a big ripoff. They should give them away to promote the regular season…”
I think everyone agrees with you on that one.
I guarantee that if Preseason Games were free, Season Ticket sales would skyrocket.
Sooner or later, I think the NFL will realize it and make them free…though they might charge more for the extras like food and parking.

What is free? Either you pay for a service and get to watch it commercial free…or you tolerate the “charge” placed upon your viewing with commercial interruptions.
I remember the very early days of YouTube and thought wow…how do I get to see all this cool stuff free? I got my answer pretty quickly as commercials starting popping up as youtube figured out how to monetize their product.
Seriously I cannot name anything that is truly free…here at JBF we have the banners…at least no obnoxious popups. The banners and ads are something I gladly accept because the product is worth it.
You know the old saying 87…there is no such thing as a free lunch.
August 30th, 2018 at 3:11 pm
@BucFanFromOH all of the Bucs games I watch on “illegal” streams ARE in HD lol. Reddit FTW
August 30th, 2018 at 3:13 pm
@Horse Liver
Love listening to Gene call the action too. You never know half of what’s going on but his excitement more than makes up for it. I would take him and Dave Moore over any other NFL broadcast team.
August 30th, 2018 at 3:28 pm
I cut the cord years ago. I have an HD antenna for my TV to watch the Bucs games. The HD quality for OTA is better than cable. The only games I can’t watch (legally) are Monday Night Football games. Heck, even with an Amazon Prime subscription I can watch Thursday Night Football.
August 30th, 2018 at 3:38 pm
Shhhhhhhhhhhhh….
Meh, if not that website then somewhere else. You can’t stop the signal…

Then why is broadcast TV the highest quality you can get?
Most channels make their money from advertisers.
I have the strangest feeling that you have no idea what you’re talking about…
August 30th, 2018 at 3:44 pm
They certainly picked a quality game.
August 30th, 2018 at 3:57 pm
4th preseason game, and only to people in the the surrounding areas?
How generous of them, lol.
I’ve bought the digital Sunday Ticket package the last 3 years now. It’s pretty nice to have, though the price has almost doubled in that time which is outrageous considering the product on the field has been declining steadily.
I’ll probably do it again this, but yo knucknbuc’s point… I found some of those for the earlier preseason games which are not included in the sunday ticket package, and there are definitely HD streams now. It’s not like the old atdhe days… just saying.

For out of towners: VPN’s are your friends. You can get something like PrivateInternetAccess or VPVanish and set your local city in it. Personally am using it to watch when overseas.
