The football gods have granted the Bucs a blessing.

Out for two weeks with an undisclosed injury, 35-year-old Brent Grimes returned to practice today.

That soothes Joe’s nerves, especially on the heels of the Vernon Hargreaves’ groin injury and the poor play of Ryan Smith in the preseason opener.

“We’re thin in the secondary, especially at corner,” Koetter said after practice today, noting the Bucs signed a couple of corners off the street the other day.

Koetter also emphasized that second-year safety Justin Evans playing nickel with the first-team defense in practice today. Javien Elliott was not dressed to practice.

Look for the Bucs to ease Grimes in very slowly just to be safe.

Lol just checked ESPN’s fantasy rankings. They have ROJO at #46 and Peyton Barber at #205!
I will be getting Barber as a steal it looks like

  2. SB Says:

Joe can we play in the fantasy league if we don’t live in the area?

  3. Easy Says:

Evans is developing nicely and I could see him being a top 10 Safety by the end of the season.

  4. Bird Says:

    SB

    Fantasy steal .shhhhhh. Barber

Oh lord. Please don’t mess with Evans

  5. SB Says:

    @Bird
Honestly I am not taking any Bucs receiver this yr. I think the ball will be too evenly distributed.
I am however gonna pick Winston up off of waivers for week 4 tho.

  6. Bucamania Says:

    That’s MJ’s job to lose.

Man, Whitehead was impressive in his debut. Can’t wait to see him teamed up with Evans.

  7. Bird Says:

    SB

You can’t. Mike Evans is a stud but look at 4 receivers and 2 top notch tight ends

Barber is the guy. You think he is available in round 6? Haven’t played in 3 years. I do online stufff now so it’s tough with all the It guys that know how to plug players

  8. BucEmUp Says:

SB….maybe in other cities. I don’t know if your in a tampa based fantasy league but I know I’m taking Barber based on where I value him and not espn otherwise someone is sure to pluck him before we get the chance.

He’s going to be the steal of the draft possibly

  9. BucEmUp Says:

I like trying evans at nickel….let vh3 play press on the outside in rotation with the other three and put whitehead at safety. The guys are all there to be successful, just not in the right positions.

Gee wiz you’d think an experienced nil coach could figure this out after a few games let alone two full season. Still waiting….

  10. Bird Says:

    Buc em

Hell yah. I’ll reach out early and get hate

Homey can play. Love his style He’s pissef too

  11. SB Says:

No Bucemup I live in Montana. No Bucs fans up here ;’cept me.
@Bird I am sure he will be available up here in rd 6 probably even 8 seeing as nobody up here pays attention to the Bucs. I am a RB whore in the draft. I LOAD up on em because they are always injured by the end of the yr and I will either have the only healthy stable plus I will have good trade bait.

  12. Broy34 Says:

It’s sad that they drafted a safety and two corners and our HC says we’re short in the secondary. Not the slightest

  13. Season Is Over Says:

Don’t worry, Broy. It is part of the genius draft process that takes seven years to implement. The fans truly don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. Miraculously, there are always a few teams each year that turn it around in one or two years but nothing to see here.

  14. I Bleed Pewter Says:

Wonder why they don’t put Whitehead at corner? We’re in pretty good shape at safety.

  15. JohnLynchBrokeMyBody47 Says:

Evans is a ball-hawk, so the nickel is perfect for him especially on those quick slants that seem to plague us year after year.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

The first thing I did in Madden was cut Ryan Smith.

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

It’s hard not to like some of our new additions in the secondary

  18. Proudbucsfan Says:

I said this before, Ryan smith should be at safety, he’s a sure tackler and covers good on short to intermediate routs he never should have started at outside corner.

At this point of the preseason, short means not enough to take hits in the 4th quarter. Camp meat.

We’ve plenty for the final roster.

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Ryan Smith tried safety and failed.

I don’t know why people are down on him. Tell me any other secondary player who had a better game this week.

You cannot. He had the best results, even though it did not seem so while watching. Just compare the stats.
