24-Day Suspension Starts Saturday, So Does Jameis Winston’s “Well-Thought-Out-Plan”

August 28th, 2018

Last year at this time, Dirk Koetter had said for about the 19th time that he didn’t know what to expect when Doug Martin returned from his three-game suspension to start the season.

Why? Because the head coach had no experience with a player getting disconnected from his team like that in September.

Well, here we are a year later and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, is in nearly the exact same boat Martin was in.

So Joe asked Koetter yesterday what he learned from the Martin suspension and eventual return as it relates to preparation for Jameis.

Koetter said he hadn’t thought about it in those terms but is supremely confident in Jameis coming back without missing a beat.

“I would just say running back versus quarterback, two different things. I know Jameis has a very well-thought-out plan for his time away,” Koetter said. “We can’t have any contact with Jameis during the time, but I know Jameis has a good plan and I would anticipate Jameis coming back ready to roll.”

Joe suspects Jameis has an extraordinary plan for his 24-day unpaid and unwanted vacation.

Listeners of the Ira Kaufman Podcast this spring heard Cameron Brate explain what happened when he went on what he thought would be a relatively casual offseason training trip to Texas A&M to meet Mike Evans, Jameis and others to throw the football around.

The Bucs’ big-money tight end said he went into the trip commitment with low expectations but left drained and impressed. Brate explained that Jameis hand-crafted a full eight-hour, daily workout itinerary for all the attendees. The day started at 8 a.m. and Jameis was the lead — as everyone stayed in the big house Jameis rented for the crew.

Joe suspects Jameis has a team of film editors ready to prepare tape of the Bears, the Bucs’ Week 4 opponent, as well as trainers and pass catchers lined up to work with him, in addition to an ex-player or two to serve as a consultant.

His NFL suspension from league strongman Roger Goodell begins Saturday at 4 p.m. when the Bucs are obligated to make their initial 53-man roster official and Jameis won’t be on it, per league rules. Jameis may return on Tuesday, September 25, following the Bucs’ hosting of the Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Jameis’ teammates likely will be sleeping  in — and hopefully enjoying a day off after a win — but there’s no doubt Jameis will be at One Buc Palace before sunrise dialing up all the info he can.

When Jameis is away, he cannot communicate with team officials and he cannot be connected online into the Bucs’ internal system for film study. So he won’t be able to take advantage of the film “cutups,” the looks put together by the Bucs’ quality control staff, things like all the Bears defensive alignments on 2nd-and-long or 3rd-and-short in Week 1, for example.

If Jameis wants that, he’ll have to have someone prep the film for him on the outside.

Let’s just hope he does not get caught doing the things decoyed above because you know he will find away to defy the suspension guidelines. It’s in his blood. Actually, it may work out better if he does get caught….

  2. Wausa Says:

    I agree with Joe.

I think Jamies will shock everyone with how prepared he will be for the Bears.

If anything he may work even harder than if he were playing the next three weeks.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

    Sounds like a (terrific) plan.

  4. Eric Says:

Football wise he played great the last few games of last year and the preseason this year.

Rest up the shoulder, stay out of hassles, get after Chicago.

I have a feeling most will be very happy when he comes back, after the first three games are played.

    0-3 is almost certain IMO.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

He can’t be in contact with the team….but he can be in contact with a contact who is in contact with the team…..

And, now that we have Dontae Dye down in Tampa….he will have someone to throw with…..along with Bernard Reedy.

I do agree, Jameis will get himself ready.

  6. Marc Says:

Forgive me if I am scared that Jameis is about to break (or bend) the rules and may get caught doing it. All we can do is how these next generation weeks go smoothly.

  7. Marc Says:

    Hope*

I believe 2018 will be his most productive season yet. Jameis has a great attitude, and I am confident he is dedicated to getting the Bucs into the playoffs. Steve Young was great for the 49ers, not for us. Jameis Winston is the best QB we have ever had. These yahoos that want him gone lack loyalty to the team as well as the most basic level of intelligence. My sympathy goes out to anyone that has to live or work around them. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  9. ndog Says:

Just think guys this mean in 28 days, maybe if we are lucky, Godeep66 will go away cause this team will be run by Jamies which he wont be able to stand. Man it sure is nice to dream…..

  10. TX Bucs fan Says:

    @ndog perfect post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Hope it’s a planned to dig us out of 0-3

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Lamarcus, we’ll win at least one of those three games, maybe more.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Bonzai

    No contact means no contact…..period.

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

ndog- We can only hope! Careful! Don’t mess up Godeep’s halo!

  16. Wausa Says:

I believe he can get any information teammates want to give him, but can not have direct contact with the organization(coaches, GM, ipad issued by team).

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No contact with……Team, Coaches, Management, Owners, Staff….including Scouts, Cooks, Shoe shine, pilots, cheerleaders, photographers, trainers, Doctors, Nurses, masseusse, lawn maintenance, ball boys or parking lot attendants.

    No contact, Bonzai…..

  20. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Yes, What NDOG said🙂
Actually I was thinking if we ignore him, he would truly GODEEP so deep we won’t hear from him anymore…

  21. Dooshlarue Says:

Off topic, but how are you guys feeling about picking up Abdulla from the Lions?
    4.3 avg.
    Can he block?

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

Dooshlarue- I’ve not seen enough of him, only that the kid can move.

  23. ben Says:

Wimston has shown to be an average qb with lots of very good weapons on his side . He has been in the league with the same coaches and has not light it up with wins. I’m a big bucs fan but after seeing him in school and in the nfl I am concerned that he is not the man I would want as the face of our team . After saying that, its great if he proves me wrong but hasn’t happened yet.

  24. Anonymous Says:

Is he allowed to use Lyft?

  25. Godeep66 Says:

LYFT: Lose Your Football Team? Sounds about right for JW. Cut him

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Personally wish that Jameis had developed a “well thought out plan” a couple years ago when he went out partying in Arizona … a plan that didn’t include Ubers

  27. Bobby M. Says:

To go back on the idea of Winston sitting against the Bears…..I dont see it happening. When Brady came back from his suspension, did he sit a week to get back up to speed? Winston was drafted to be the franchise QB….He’s in the final years of his first deal and the Bucs need to evaluate him. He looks to be in the best shape of his life and he’s shown the work ethic to come back prepared. Will he be rusty…maybe at practice but i think he’ll be ready to play in the game. He knows how to prepare at this point….His issue isn’t preparation…never has been. His issue is decision making under pressure…..That wont change suddenly from an extra week of practice. He’s either going to get better at it or he wont.

Foles is another great example…..He took the Eagles to the Super Bowl, but as soon as Wentz is healthy enough, Wentz will be starting and will continue to start even if he’s rusty. Wentz is the future of the Eagles….Foles and Fitzpatrick are what they are….potentially good QBs for short stints but proven to be avg for the long haul. I believe Winston will be ready.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

Oh look godeep is posting again….

Did you look? I see some did.

    I did not.

It’s the same old regurgitated Chef Boy Ardee Beefaroni I suppose.

    I don’t like that stuff…..

    Go Bucs!

  29. Bucsfanman Says:

87- He sure does have Jameis on his mind though, doesn’t he?! A little TOO much, if you know what I mean!
    Beefaroni sucks!

  30. Phil Says:

Maybe he can borrow Grudens film room in Tampa. He not using it.

  31. Casey Morgan Says:

I want each of you idiots who think we will be 0-3 to come back and comment on joebucsfan after week 3…

  32. stpetebucsfan Says:

I was not happy that Jameis was out at three am…with two losers…blackout drunk…but it’s over…time to move on. I think he realizes he just used his last get of jail free card…and since it wasn’t free…a three game suspension and the mountain of bad PR that went with it…I think he has learned his lesson.

Now if you get past the off field transgressions there is NO DOUBT who should be our starting QB. Jameis has the potential to be great…he’s already very good.

BTW I don’t know whether to share this or not because 87 may pull out a weapon and go after the ESPN VP in charge of college football…who yesterday was talking about the scandals in football and lumped Jameis issues with Sandusky.

That’s over the freaking top even for our trolls here. I’ve certainly done my share of questioning JW’s judgement off the field…but he’s not pervert!!!

Comparing an entitled star athlete who made some bad decisions to a guy who buggered little children should be cause for that moron at ESPN to lose his job!!!

Sandusky was CONVICTED of rape and child sexual abuse. JW has no convictions and even the worst allegations against him do not compare to Sandusky.

I’ve not been in the group who defends JW no matter what…but really enough is enough!!! I haven’t mentioned the moron’s name because 87 reads this blog and he might go nuckin futs…and I don’t blame him!

  33. Godeep66 Says:

I’m a little confused. I have sat in on three fantasy football drafts in which no one drafted JW. That’s right, he is a FA after the draft. One of the drafts was 14 teams and the other two were 12. I guess there was none of the posters from this site in any of these drafts. I thanks did a little research and he is average 24th QB picked in the draft. Pretty sad that America QB is a FA.

I am feeling this post! 🙂

  35. SB Says:

@Deep…….I didn’t draft him either but will be the first to pick him up off waivers on a Monday night. I am rolling with DeShaun Watson for the first three weeks.
Two more drafts to go and since I am in Montana nobody pays attention to the Bucs or JW3 I will do the same in both of those.

I hope Jamies does one thing

LEARN TO KEEP YOUR DAMN HANDS TO YOURSELF

  37. Oxycondoms Says:

He needs to spend time with his son stay out of trouble

“… he didn’t know what to expect when Doug Martin returned…”

I am a recovered addict. I knew exactly what to expect. 3 weeks away from structure and discipline?!?!

  40. feelthepewterpower Says:

Winston will be looking at the access 22 on nfl.com like the average Joe. Breaking down angles and bears fronts to find ways to beat their alignments 🙂
