Welcome To The First Training Camp Fight Of The Season!
July 29th, 2018It was glorious.
The beasts of the Buccaneers’ trenches squaring off for 1-on-1 pass rush drills during the first padded practice of the season.
Joe had a great view, and you’ll be able to read about the various wins and losses in the comprehensive camp notes coming later today.
But the highlight, of course, was a solid fight. Why guys throw punches to the face of a guy wearing a helmet, Joe will never know. But free agent defensive end Mitch Unrein did just that to Caleb Benenoch.
Benenoch, lined up in a right guard stance, was stoning Unrein and within a couple of seconds it got extra ferocious and Unrein threw a right hand to Benenoch’s head after the whistle. They went at it and teammates came flying in; see photo above.
The fight was about one-third through the session, and there was no rematch.

Super disappointed in “America’s Quarterback” JW. Tons of fans showed up in support of him and he only signed autographs for a little bit and only for the VIP section. He has a lot to make up to the fans who have supported him in my opinion. He missed out on a great opportunity to do so. Meanwhile, Mike Evans sat around and signed for a while. Talked to the kids and made an impact with the fans.

Stoning, as in keeping him out of the backfield, is what he is supposed to do.

Is the NASTY coming out?

Unrein is the steely vet and Benenoch is the young upstart. A great matchup!

Caleb Benenoch may be the sleeper draft choice. If he is this is the year we should find out and it sounds like he’s off to a good start.
Benenoch’s combine workout matched Marpet’s and Benenoch was a good soccer player before coming to America. He anchored a UCLA offensive line that set school records for fewest sacks.
He started football late after his soccer years, hard to imagine a guy his size even playing soccer…point is he’s actually a pretty good athlete.
Glad Unrein is toughening him up.

You guys wanted nasty in the trenches? You got it! And I for one think it’s great that our starting right tackle is stoning a backup DT. We need that next to jenson and Dotson and marpet! Now if our left tackle can get it right on a consistent basis then we are in good shape.. Go getem nasty boys! Go get em

If I recall correctly, Benenoch would’ve been a first or second round pick if he stayed that extra year in college instead of coming out early. He’s gonna steadily improve.

Any word on how the new guy is doing in camp?

Good sign for Benenoch.

Fights in training camp are stupid. It shows you lack discipline, nothing more.

Bulls lock horns. Alphas challenge each other for the top spot. This is a good thing and something that skinny jean wearing beta males will never understand. The Ladies room is on the right.

If you look closely you can see a hint of a smile on Coach Buckner’s face. Loving it I am sure.

Nothing wrong with a healthy fight. I am glad to see they have some fight in them.
