Rooting Against Jameis

July 5th, 2018

A preparation wish for Team Glazer

It’s perfectly acceptable Bucs fan etiquette to internally root against Jameis Winston this season while cheering and yearning for the Bucs to have a stunning year and win the NFC South without him.

Sorry, Bucs officials and America’s Quarterback, but you brought this twisted phenomenon on yourselves.

Joe has noted that Jameis does a fantastic job playing the wrestling heel. He did it in college and he seems a natural at it in the NFL.

He’s polarizing. For years, America has had a love-hate thing for Jameis. He’s a fabulous villain for many.

But now thousands of Bucs faithful have shifted to the angry side of the aisle, hoping the Bucs succeed and thrive while Jameis is suspended for the next three games. So these fans yearn for a surprisingly good Tampa Bay team to emerge and enjoy Jameis’ return in late September as a backup to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Their perfect world is a winning Bucs club that explodes out of the gate and never needs to put Jameis on the field.

Understandably so.

Jameis, at best, let down the organization that counted on him to behave respectably as the face of the franchise. At worst, he groped a woman’s crotch without permission about 11 months after he told the world he wouldn’t be that kind of NFL quarterback.

Today, Jameis is Tampa and America’s bad-guy QB. Is there another NFL starting quarterback with the baggage and NFL rap sheet Jameis is carrying around? There’s notorious former sleaze Ben Roethlisberger, and that’s about it.

Jameis fixes all this with wins, lots of them. Right or wrong, that’s the only thing that will turn the tide in his favor.

In the meantime, loads of Bucs fans don’t want him to get that chance in 2018. They’re rooting against Jameis while aching for the team to win without him.

Team Glazer has quite a possible conundrum on its hands. Joe will hope they have crafted a strong leadership plan surrounding the quarterback position and the many directions the Jameis saga can go.

Nice twist Joe. Blaming the fans for Winston’s reprehensible behavior. Just read what you wrote…..and further evidence that Winston needs to be cut. Today. ???? Joe wrote no such thing. –Joe

  2. Pete I Says:

America’s Choir Boy had a son of his own apparently on Friday. According to PFT. Congratulations, I had hoped for a girl as then perhaps maybe then he’d get it”?

  3. Pete I Says:

The Glazers haven’t crafted a strong leadership plan since the father passed away. So good luck with that. Winning may or may not fix this. Not if women’s groups start protesting.

I certainly am not rooting for America’s Choir Boy, but will remain a Buc’s fan, unlike many, I remember 0-26, the 80’s and even being at a replacement game in 87 screaming my head off for scabs, we lost to the Chargers scabs. It’s the uniform not the player.

  4. Architek Says:

I pretty much checked out in Winston and the Bucs after this mess. I really hoped he was the “one” but he’s not a leader and youbdont oay soneone 100M to be a guy.

  5. Pete I Says:

Oh and Joe I did receive answers from several Sponsors and Pewter Partners:

I’ve received your concern with the behavior of Jameis Winston, I understand your points and we too have communicated concerns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We do take the actions of all players, coaches, staff and ownership of the teams we support seriously and we are tracking the actions of the NFL and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers related to this matter to ensure appropriate action is taken.

    Thank you for taking the time to contact xxx and sharing your concerns. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.” And ;

“Thanks for writing; we appreciate you sharing your concern with us.

The local, independent franchisees in the Tampa Bay area are the ones who are paying for the sponsorship.

We will share your note with them. In addition, I’ve also shared it with the team in Axxxxx that manages how the company spends its marketing dollars.”

I have removed who these companies were. I got several others but these two were the least canned.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Since this happened over two years ago, and even if it was considered assault legally, I don’t feel it was that bad of a thing. Inappropriate? Sure. If it was done to my daughter? I’d want to settle it with fists.

    But not assault.

And you can toss all of the Wikipedia definitions at me you like. I said legally. The statute of limitations has not run out for legal charges, and there has not even been a sniff. Why? Because legally it is not assault. No matter what it is socially.

How is it not assault? Because during that act, he has to be informed that it is unwanted. Once he is, if he continues, then it becomes assault. But he stopped.

And any guys who question that are hypocritical. Because what guy here has not been making out with a woman, tried to take it a little further, and been stopped? Legally, it is the same thing. Jameis and the driver may not have been making out, but the rest applies. If he is guilty, then all of us are too.

Are we all guilty of assault? Anyone here danced with a girl, let your hand drop to her butt cheeks, then had her lift your hand away? Is that sexual assault?

    Get real, people.

  7. meh Says:

    Cut him.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So far as our backup quarterback, I think people are out of touch with reality. Nick Foles finally has a good year, and now our backup suddenly can?

The 2 games that Ryan Fitzpatrick won last year were against bad teams (Jets, Dolphins). How anyone can expect him to win against the strong teams he will face is beyond me.

I’m not saying we cannot win any of them. I’m saying HE can win them. All we can do is hope he keeps mistakes to a minimum and scores 1-2 times. The rest will be up to defense and the shiny new kicker we got who has a reputation for choking in clutch games…and it won’t get more clutch.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Correction:
I’m saying HE can’t win them.

  10. Pete I Says:

Actually since he actually touched her it is technically a battery (an unwanted touching) and the basic legal definition of assault is (the fear of an unwanted touching).

Being INFORMED it is not wanted is nonsense and legally incorrect. No assault or battery statute I have ever read has required an announcement. It is simply the act with intent. No can mean NO even if the words are never uttered.

These are very simple terms. Each states law is slightly different but all have basically the same concepts.

You can be guilty (criminal) or liable (Civil) of BOTH from the same event.

Once again it is simply the act with the requisite intent. And we have that.

  11. Not there yet Says:

Damn you people are pathetic. You don’t realize you are the only ones who care that you don’t like Winston, your opinion does not matter and your just as irrelevant completely since your not actually rooting for the team. Most of you are mad because your insignificant and you can’t stop him from being a millionaire no matter how much you cry to Joe it’s a waste of time.

You want emotion go watch a chick flick this is football and they will make a football decision. If they move on it won’t be because of whiny fans. Go get another team no one wants you, Don’t need you

  12. Pete I Says:

Oh and trust me those definitions are not from Wikipedia. They are the basic legal standards.

  13. Pete I Says:

Actually a whole lot of the nation, even more than the bucs fans who do, dislike America’s Choir Boy. He is viewed far more negatively outside the Tampa Bay Area.

  14. feelthepewterpower Says:

Right to be mad at Jameis? Absolutely. Right to not want to support him? I get it. Want to get rid of him permanently? Insane. Winston has the ability to be an elite level qb. Last year, sans the rb position was the first year he was truly surrounded by talent and unfortunately he got in the second game vs Minnesota (one time of the best defenses in football, their first home games, and Buccs had most of their defense missing so they were in catch up mode). After he came back from injury he was one of the best qb’s against good competition vying for playoff spots the last five games. Winston could easily have 8-10 more wins on resume if not for late blown leads. Jameis also in theory will have a competitve defense.

***THE SKY IS NOT FALLING CHICKEN LITTLE***

  15. Pete I Says:

Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13. Criminal Code § 13-1203. :
    A. A person commits assault by:

    1. Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing any physical injury to another person;  or

    2. Intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of imminent physical injury;  or

    3. Knowingly touching another person with the intent to injure, insult or provoke such person.

    B. Assault committed intentionally or knowingly pursuant to subsection A, paragraph 1 is a class 1 misdemeanor.  Assault committed recklessly pursuant to subsection A, paragraph 1 or assault pursuant to subsection A, paragraph 2 is a class 2 misdemeanor.  Assault committed pursuant to subsection A, paragraph 3 is a class 3 misdemeanor.

  16. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ Pete I

Get over it. The company sponsorship’s are not condoning Winston’s behavior by advertising with the Bucs. You’re not hurting Jameis, nor making a difference for anyone. Well, perhaps someone in public relations/advertising for said companies might be losing their jobs thanks to your bs emails. Sleep better at night?

  17. tval Says:

By arizonas standard, “Kate” has ZERO case…ZERO!!! P
and discovery would ruin her case even further.
Pete is an ESPN fanboy..call him “clickbait” lol

  18. Kalind Says:

What these a$$hat fans are really saying Joe, what this is truly about..is finally convicting him for what 4 legal bodies said he didn’t do in college. That despite a mountain of lacking evidence, these ridiculous “fans” of ours finally feel vindicated for not wanting Jameis when we drafted him. That this is nothing more than a big “I told you so”…again, despite ANY evidence of wrongdoing in either case. And so they whine like little girls about how evil and horrible he is.

Glad they’re not in charge of the justice system, we’d all be in danger.

  19. Pete I Says:

The simplest crime that may apply is battery. Battery comes from the common law and is defined as a “harmful or offensive,” “touching,” “without consent or authority.” The three elements came to the law originally as part of the “norms” and “conditions” of the social group. Today, there are no longer “common law crimes;” instead, they are all codified.

For your example, the touching is likely the easiest to define and prove. The act of touching, even when done without physical harm, is a crime of invasion of the person. It is the act of touching, not the degree of harm, that is the key to the crime.

More difficult to prove is the “harmful or offensive” element. Many people presume that “harmful” means physical pain or injury.

As noted, the touching need not be painful or injurious but is only required to be an invasion of the person. Meaning, the touching interferes with the person’s right to be free from such touching. But there is a BIG exemption for many touchings that occur in day to day contact. As an example, if standing in a full elevator one must expect some jostling and touching as the elevator starts and stops. This type of “incidental touching” is allowed under the law (generally).

  20. Heilin Laddie Says:

To use a football analogy(sorry soccer).

There is a story of a famous manager taking 2 you 18 year old soccer players aside and telling them “You are now of the age when you can legally go to pubs and drink as much as you like. You both have a serious amount of talent and have the ability to go to the very top. In doing so you will become famous footballers and make a lot of money. But you will also face a huge amount of temptation. So make a decision right now to yourself not to me. DO YOU WANT IT. Because if you do there is a price to pay and it is called self-discipline!!!.
What I mean by that is that you have to ask yourself in every situation, in choosing who your friends are, in choosing whom you will associate with, in where you go and what you do”

He paused for a few minutes and then said “The question is ‘Does this help me be a better player’……………He paused for a few moments and then said “If the answer is NO – walk away” …….”Walk away from whatever, friends, relationships, parties, booze etc etc.”

“If you are lucky you will get 10 good years at this ……. but in the fans minds you will live for ever” …..”DO YOU WANT IT?”

One young man went on to play for Scotland and the other drifted from one club to another on his path to obscurity.

Whilst Jameis has done (allegedly) some really bad things – he should be given a second chance by the Bucs. We all need forgiveness.

BUT ONLY IF THE BUCS ARE TOTALLY CONVINCED THAT JAMEIS REALLY DOES WANT TO SUCCEED AND IS PREPARED TO PAY THE PRICE TO ACHIEVE IT.

I really, really hope so but I am not so sure he really does.

  21. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

I cannot believe some of the ppl on here are defending jameis actions, there is not one single bit to defend, first off the nfl provides players with a ride, yes its good he got an uber BUT, its UBER, not BOOBER, thats in vegas and a $150 ride and touching is expected, i was in jameis corner until the poking lattimore & eating the Ws and running over panther suits and doing this not yet a year after being drafted, let him go and drop licht and koetter get rid of this mess and start fresh, really wanted jameis to be the guy, but it isnt gonna happen

  22. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Joes, maybe i missed it but where is Father Dungy on Jameis, he usually lends a helping hand esp in the tampa area and NFL brotherhood or is this too bad?

  25. JameisNOT Says:

Bonzai and JW are one a path to become cell mates. Why support such a loser in life and on the field??? JW did the crime, then tried to have his homies cover for him, and then lied about it for over a year. He also reluctantly tried to clean up his image with PR stunts and even and engagement to his future ex-wife. I hope she takes him to the cleaners the same way the two young ladies did at FSU for his sexual “transgressions”. Meaning, they both got paid.

So no requirement to say or do anything, it can still be a battery.

  27. Onetrickpony Says:

Winston, its clear some people dont want you here.
I would go somewhere, where they would appericate me and my talents, good or bad.
I heard and believe, all you were trying,to do was get that spider off of her lap, and she and everybody else flipped out by you trying to be nothing but a perfectly innocent gentleman.

  28. Winston is overrated Says:

Winston did it to his self!

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s quite easy to root against Jameis now and when he is not playing….it will be another matter entirely when he is in the game.

I suggest that fans watch Jameis in the Chicago or if he doesn’t play then….the Atlanta game (both away)…..

See how you feel with him at QB….are you rooting for the team to win? Are you rooting for him to get hurt…..are you rooting for him to throw interceptions?

Then, and only then will you truly know where your emotions will take you.

For me, I would love a situation where Jameis could be benched for more games….and that would be a 3-0 Fitz….

But, when he comes in….I’ll be rooting for hiim to dominate.

  30. Sue James Says:

The thing we can’t forget is that in addition to his inexcusable behavior, when confronted with the accusations he decided to invent a story and bold face lie to the fans in an attempt to protect his false image. It wasn’t until the suspension details were made public that he decided to issue his statement about how he has reformed.

Also don’t forget, we have slowly been building a stronger team. Jameis is only one component and he should be treated as such. Just one member who really is unproven at this point. We may find that we are very good without him. My opinion is that he should sit on that bench, not play for some time and be forced to earn his active spot back while we consider all other options. We may find that our road to the super bowl doesn’t include him.

  31. Pete I Says:

When America’s Choir boy comes in I will not wish him ill…I will not be enthused or motivated to cheer HIM at all. Even if he wins he will still be the Stain of the franchise. A scarlet letter is the #3

  32. Nick2 Says:

Jameis comes back game four unless Fitzpatrick wins all 3 of his games in stunning fashion meaning the guy would have to have pretty much zero interceptions. Even then Fitz has been known to have awesome small stretches only to implode late in the season. If I remember he played the Jets out of the playoffs after starting off with a very hot hand. Don’t hold your breath Jameis haters your wish will most likely never happen.

  33. 1sparkybuc Says:

We have some Lynch mob mentality “fans” here. They follow the lead of the rich white gropper in the White House. Innocent until PROVEN guilty goes out the window when a young black man is involved. Nothing about this has been PROVEN. It’s all based on one woman’s accusation. There’s no video. There’s no corroborating witness. By her own account no penis was involved, just the hands. She suffered no physical injury. He claimed innocence. She claimed guilty. It’s the word of a white woman against that of a black man, so obviously he’s guilty. For the record, I believe he did something inappropriate. I also believe, since there is NO PROOF to what extent or degree, Jameis Winston is not a candidate to be hung at a picnic for white folks. Bring your kids and don’t forget the cameras. There’s been no legal action. The NFL has handed out their (deserved) punishment, and Jameis has proven to be no danger to society for the last two years and four months. Put your tar and feathers away and focus on the team and September. Support the Bucs and encourage Jameis Winston to make better decisions. See Jameis….not all old white guys are against you. Dedicate your life to winning football games and improving your image.

  34. Pete I Says:

As a disclaimer I did actually boo Byron Leftwich and knew that idea was a rookie coaches stupid idea. But both Leftwich and America’s Choir Boy made and make it easy NOT to cheer them. I’m a Buc’s fan not a zealot.

  35. Pete I Says:

Since the race card has been used, I will say I also booed Dilfer on many occasions as well as DeBerg, and Jeff Garcia…Mea Culpa

  36. Shane247 Says:

    @Pete

You might as well submit a detailed description on how to change a battery! As far as I could tell, NONE of those definitions fit the alleged act that occured. If there was a crime here, more than just a case of bad judgement, he would have been charged. Stop trying to make this fit your narative.

  37. K_Bassuka Says:

Anyone who wants the Bucs to win with Fitzpatrick at the helm it’s straight up delusional and shouldn’t be considered a die hard fan. While I agree that it’s time for a new QB(unless the Drunk Crotch Grabber takes us past the 1st round of the playoffs), I don’t want a stop gap garbage QB to run the team. We need a QB that will be here playing at a high level for the next 5-10 years.

  38. Bucnut2 Says:

Nick2- much more likely the Winston implodes, he leads the league in TO’s since his arrival.

  39. Bird Says:

    What “Jameis not” said

    Webster formally known as tval
Now known as one trick pony

Why so scared Webster. You called a lot of people idiots for criticizing Jameis before this debacle started.

Man up baby boy. Running scared. Little Webster. Like the show back in the day.

  40. mark2001 Says:

Onetrick…bogus.. most here have given Jameis every chance to keep their faith in him. And he has P’ed a lot of it away. ” would go somewhere, where they would appericate me and my talents”? You have to be kidding. Any fan base would look at a guy getting gigged for sexual assault with a great deal of incredulity and frustration. Jameis needs to grow up…plain and simple. And hopefully will stay healthy and make better decisions on and off the field.

  41. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Well said Joe. I am now rooting against America’s Sexual Predator, and for the Bucs. Let Harvard Fitzgerald play this year and we can get Foles and draft someone next year. Asshat can take his charisma and fake smile to some other community.

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Pete I

You are mistaking physical assault with sexual assault, and the laws are different because of the sensitive nature of sexual assault. By your definition, simply accidentally brushing up against a woman on a bus is assault. Not to mention, if you’ve any experience with making out, you would be guilty yourself (see my earlier comments).

Because so many false accusations have been made, sexual assault laws reqiuired more specificity.

  43. Pickgrin Says:

Nice Jameis hater-bait article Joe… SMH

I guess Pete and Walter and Duthsty and meh and anyone else who is up in arms over this Ubergate nonsense has never done a thing wrong in their entire lives. Never made a mistake. Never broke the law even once. Never been drunk. Never lied. Never been disrespectful to another person. Especially not a female. Perfect Gentlemen – all of them – every moment of their lives…

… and thus perfectly within their rights to judge – actually OBLIGATED to sit behind the safety of their anonymous keyboards to slander and judge the Bucs 24 year old QB regarding an alleged unwanted touching 2 1/2 years ago with few actual and proven facts at their availability.

Way to represent the morally perfect segment of the population who have every right to be outraged – sans facts or any proof whatsoever – about Ubergate…..

  44. Bobby M. Says:

Fitzpatrick is on par with Blake Bortles…..if the Jags can go to the AFC championship with Bortles, i have no problem cheering for Fitzpatrick. I watch the games to see the Bucs win….not to watch one player collect stats. I hope the team wins so 1) Bucs management can see that this team is indeed finally built to compete and Winston isn’t that critical. 2)Winston can see all he needs to do is manage the game not be the hero….from pregame to the final second….just shut up and perform.

I’ve been critical of Licht but i do feel like he’s now put together a squad….good teams find ways to win. The Patriots made the playoffs with Matt Cassell….they did it again with two back ups while Brady served a suspension….We need to expect to win all three games…one game at a time. Not a fan of the mindset of hoping we simply avoid 0-3. That’s a losers mentality

  45. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Stoking the hate, I love it

  46. BrianBucs Says:

America’s Crotchgrabber And Liar should NEVER have the honor of wearing a Buc uniform again.
We will all see in the very near future how the Glazers really do feel about their franchise and fan base.
Keeping Winston on the roster is a major insult, embarrassment and humiliation to the True Bucs fans

  47. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Their perfect world is a winning Bucs club that explodes out of the gate and never needs to put Jameis on the field.” You could’ve stopped after the FIRST half of that sentence Joe & all Bucs’ fans would’ve been perfectly happy. To you & far too many in the media, it’s still “All About Jameis”. To those, he was supposed to be the messiah; the savior for this franchise. He was supposed to be the lightning rod; the spark plug that drives Bucs’ victories. The leader above leaders; the face of this franchise.

Team ownership and the media set Jameis up for this Humpty Dumpty routine, and most fans happily followed (yes Realist, like sheep). Sorry, but all the king’s horses & all the king’s men can’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again. What all have found out is that even in Bucsville, character REALLY does matter … it’s a vital trait of leadership. This whole ugly ‘As the Stomach Turns’ episode showed the world Jameis’ real character. He threw the Bucs’ owners, Bucs’ coaches and his Bucs’ teammates under the bus, not to mention the Bucs’ fans. All we’re hearing now is the loud ‘THUMP THUMP’ of that same bus … running over Jameis.

No one will ever look at Jameis the same way again, even if he leads us to a Super Bowl. And what the Bucs’ ownership & managment have FINALLY learned IMO is that there’s no such thing as a messiah in the NFL. T-E-A-M-S that win consistently don’t depend on one person … in any position … for their victories.

  48. T REX Says:

Bonzai – Rationalizing bad behavior one post at a time. Pathetic human like JW.

I told you so! JW is a POS.

Dump him after he throws another 15 picks and 10 fumbles. That will make all the Winstonites/Nole fans feel better about dumping him.

  49. Pete I Says:

“You are mistaking physical assault with sexual assault, and the laws are different because of the sensitive nature of sexual assault. By your definition, simply accidentally brushing up against a woman on a bus is assault. Not to mention, if you’ve any experience with making out, you would be guilty yourself (see my earlier comments).

Because so many false accusations have been made, sexual assault laws reqiuired more specificity.”

    Inaccurate.

  50. Pete I Says:

“I guess Pete and Walter and Duthsty and meh and anyone else who is up in arms over this Ubergate nonsense has never done a thing wrong in their entire lives. Never made a mistake. Never broke the law even once. Never been drunk. Never lied. Never been disrespectful to another person. Especially not a female. Perfect Gentlemen – all of them – every moment of their lives…”

    Irrelevant.

  51. tval Says:

Not “irrelevant” when YOU SUPPORT TRUMP!! Quite the op

  52. Dooshlarue Says:

    Pete I

I booed all the above QBs as well but I’ll add Spurrier to that list.
    He SUCKED!

  53. ndog Says:

I love how everyone that already hated Jamies are the same ones that want him cut TODAY! You people kill me, as you were just sitting and waiting for him to mess up so you could get your wish. Way to be a fan and root for the failure of a member of “your team” this whole time. I love Tampa, but when having fans like you guys who need enemies?

  54. ATrain Says:

    Bonzai

Florida statue states Assault as the threat to do harm

Battery is an willful and unwanted touch and no you don’t get to touch someone and then they tell you it’s unwanted nothing in the statue states this

This situation is totally different than making out with a girl and going to far
    HE WAS GETTING RIDE HOME

Bonzai you throw this stuff out like an expert defending an action that has no defense Please Stop JW Needs your help like Trump needs another social media account

  55. BucNole Says:

I can totally understand how many fans feel about JW. As a Bucs/Noles fan I have witnessed JW’s play from college to the pros and was happy we chose him (warts and all) for my pro team.
Having said that, I am very disappointed in his behavior off the field AND his problems ON the field (some of which I think can be linked to this coaching staff – SOME)
I understand the sentiment that winning can and probably will cure a lot of ills – but this young man has a long way to go to gain the trust of the fans he has let down.
    Very sad situation

  56. Architek Says:

    NDog-
Bro, if that was your daughter and this guy has a history of this stuff. The trend is there and HE asked to be judged on his actions.

The real issue is the on the field and you still don’t know who or what he is on the field.

The return on the risk is just not clear so you can’t knock people for turning on Jameis.

Jameis did something and it was two years ago but it’s clear “leader” is not who he should be. Pay a “guy” 100M???

  57. Pete I Says:

“Not “irrelevant” when YOU SUPPORT TRUMP!! Quite the op”

    Even more irrelevant and incoherent.

  58. 813bucboi Says:

im not rooting against Winston……sure im disappointed but im not rooting against him…..

now dirk and smitty are a different story…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  59. jmarkbuc Says:

    Wow Joe,

The actual articles about football have been great the last couple days..Now This.. back to moving that needle I guess. Cha Ching

  60. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

You people are pathetic. JBF ags this $hit on everyday. bring the orange uniforms back and move the empire up here to Big Orange Kuntry in Knoxville Tennessee. Guarantee ya the people here will not treat the home town team like most of y’all have done over the years. It’s getting old Joe

  61. Buccernutter Says:

What is with everyone acting like upsets don’t happen EVERY SINGLE WEEK?

Even Joe gave us a 10% chance lol.

It’s up to our defense cuz we’d be screwed with Jameis if our defense didn’t improve.

We just need one win in 3 attempts and it’s funny you guys are putting a ton of merit for there to be no parity with those teams and ours. Lol

  62. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

I think Pete is missing Buccaneer Bonzai’s point. The funny thing is no one knows what happened in that car that night. For all we know she could have instigated the situation, Jameis went in and was rejected. At the end of the day we have all made moves on woman then turned down then we have all stopped, so not sure what the difference is with Jameis and why everyone wants to drag him over the coals for this. Didn’t he stop as well? Oh and Pete most go to the games to watch Jameis play because he gives us the best chance to win. I am a season ticket holder with the Bucs and I made sure they saw how I felt about the situation as well. Jameis isn’t going anywhere. Go Bucs!

  63. JMan5 Says:

Isn’t the fact that nobody wants Jameis in a sponsorship sense damning enough? Hope he saved his money.

  64. ndog Says:

Architek where did I saying anything about turning on Jamies I was clearly taking about the folks that were looking for him, rooting for him, and waiting for him to fail. My point was, and I think it was pretty clear, that this fan base sucks in that quite a few of them were actively rooting against a player on their own team. Nothing more nothing less, but again as someone that has an agenda you read what you wanted to read.

Please point out anything below that talks about turning on him:

    ndog Says:

    July 5th, 2018 at 8:55 am

I love how everyone that already hated Jamies are the same ones that want him cut TODAY! You people kill me, as you were just sitting and waiting for him to mess up so you could get your wish. Way to be a fan and root for the failure of a member of “your team” this whole time. I love Tampa, but when having fans like you guys who need enemies?

  65. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @I’m Tired

I hope I did miss his point. lol But what has disturbed me most about those who “blindly” support Jameis…again a small group..is nobody has addressed what for me is the real issue. TRUST!!!

I don’t even want to participate in the morality debate over grope gate. That’s a SEPARATE ISSUE! Jameis penchant for getting in sex jams is one thing. But that’s NOT what has torn it for me.

    TRUST!!!

What kind of guy BARELY beats a rape charge with much bad publicity and a good chunk of his own dough to settle and then the very first off season he is with the Bucs he parties with the main witness in his rape trial…and a convicted rapist and then gets drunk out of his gourd….by HIS OWN testimony may have blacked out.

AGAIN…if a cellphone video had been sent to TMZ or posted on social media it wouldn’t have mattered whether he got into the Uber. The PR disaster would have been the same

Sooooo is Jameis too stupid to know these facts? Dont think so.
Is he sick…alcoholic or other problem…Don’t know
Is he a self indulgent man child who has simply been spoiled rotten by enablers?
    Probably
Is he a trustworthy leader. Absolutely not.

How are all of you getting past that issue of trust?

  66. Ghastly Bucs Says:

I think the only folks that really really like America’s Crotchgrabber are FSU fans. Everybody else knew what we were getting and are not surprised at all by his behavior. Bench him for a year and let him think about what he wants to do with his career. If he wants to be a QB or if he wants to be a dumb@ss.

  67. jmarkbuc Says:

    @ndog

    Ndog Says:
    June 23rd, 2018 at 7:18 am

I know I don’t trust him anymore and I was going to cancel my season tickets if they didn’t draft him. But Jameis and I now have two things in common. I’m a idiot for believing he is a decent person and he’s just idiot

  68. ndog Says:

Thanks jmarkbuc that is my post thanks for sharing, but again what does that have to do with the my comment in regards to people that have been waiting in the shadows rooting for a member of “their team” to fail? That fact that I, a known Jameis supporter, am now stating I know longer trust him has nothing to do with “people rooting against a member of our team and waiting for him to fail over the past 3 years. So what point are you trying to make?

  69. jmarkbuc Says:

Not hard to see why some fans would root against him…
    Is it?

Or why they come out now…it was always just a matter of time.

  70. Architek Says:

    NDog-
I got you – wasn’t trying to challenge your point, I might have misinterpreted your post but I was just saying Jameis brought this on himself. The Bucs fans have actually supported this team faithfully and have received little return.

    But I see your point.

I just know how I process things like this and I truly went all in on him. I bought jerseys and flew to games and to see those patterns of repeated bad decision making really gives me pause on if he should be the unquestionable face and leader/CEO of the origination.

  71. Architek Says:

I know what you mean about some “fans lurking” waiting to turn on him, but that’s the nature of sports too!

And that’s the nature of fandom too!

It stings me that we have to start over again at QB yet again.

  72. Buc Fan From NC Says:

Sadly Jameis is guilty of not seeing the seriousness of his previous allegations. Is he a filthy human being for possibly groping a female? Well as a rookie coming off a great year I think he was an arrogant athlete that thought he was untouchable. But for this to be almost 3 years old I’m ashamed that I’m in a country where the president can brag about grabbing “P***Y” get elected yet a football player who was 22 is supposed to lose everything. Imagine if he was a white QB, oh I’m sorry Big Ben is already beloved and forgiven. Don’t see fans asking for him to lose his job. This is Amerikkka.

  73. Frank Pillow Says:

After having a little time to process things and step away from the emotions of it all- the colossal disappointment in Jameis and to a degree the state of the franchise- I can’t help but feel like I jumped to the conclusion that he’s caused irreparable and catastrophic damage to his tenure as the team’s starting QB.

Right now, I think many of us are gutted by this feeling of betrayal. We so very much wanted to believe Jameis, the man-child, had been transformed into a mature-beyond-years, unflappable community leader. That narrative, that campaign, was so in our faces (from the team, from Jameis himself and the press) that we willingly (if not naively) gobbled it up because we were so desperate for this team’s relevance. Jameis became our team-anointed, media endorsed, gridiron savior. The face of the franchise on and off the field.

Yeah, some of his antics, including the eating Ws and overall behavior at NO, were indicative of his remaining immaturity, but I think it’s pretty disingenuous now to say that we all saw this exact type of trouble coming, or should’ve. Why? Because he spent the past three + years earning the teams trust and ours.

That’s why this whole thing sucks. He betrayed the trust and faith so many had placed in him. First, with his boorish, inexcusable behavior that night in Arizona. Second, with his uncompromising statement/defense/alibi concocted years later, which were ultimately compromised by incongruent statements and technical evidence.

In truth, we may never know the exact circumstances leading to the events in that Uber. We may never know the full extent of Jameis’ candor or lack thereof with the NFL and Bucs’ leadership. But we’re left with the question of whether we’re dealing with a miscreant and/or social deviant vs. simply a drunken idiot? I don’t know which- and that’s what’s so frustrating.

Last week I said the Bucs should bench Jamies for the year, but I think that’s the wrong approach. Instead, they should absolutely make him face his employers, peers, fans and community. Make him play out the string- with jeers and boos. Make him earn his fate, his cheers here with results on and off the field.

What kind of player will Jameis become? What kind of teammate? What kind of man and father? Maybe, just maybe, the most fitting fate for Jameis is to put his future squarely in his own hands (both on and off the field)– that perhaps for the first time in his life Jameis will be held accountable for Jameis. No propaganda from the team, no University influence, no benefit of doubt.

  74. jmarkbuc Says:

    Frankpillow,

    Well thought out post.

The thing that is most poignant for me is that all this consternation is for a QB who really isn’t that good as a QB. Way too much of a sandlot style of play, much less the other issues.

Maybe he gets better, maybe he doesn’t. Was looking forward to this year as a prove it year, for more than just JW. His latest controversy just muddies the water. There are already DK apologists saying he should get a pass, etc. etc.

I’m more of a “No excuses, No Explanations” kind of fan

  75. 1sparkybuc Says:

‘There are good people on both sides.‘ Yeah right. I seriously doubt that anyone on either side considers that to be true. Hatred exists beyond reason on this board. People refuse to accept even the possibility that these accusations might be false. Nothing written here is going what has been or will be done. Jameis is still a Buc, and as long as he is, I’m going to root for him. When he is done here, I wish him well. I believe he is a decent young man who had lessons to learn. I know I also learned many lessons the hard way. I was lucky. My life wasn’t broadcast on national television.

  76. AlteredEgo Says:

Frank….to a degree I agree…my only hesitation with that is putting careers at risk of injury and possible end while Jameis tries to prove he can overcome his flaws on the field and off the field…while most have been focused on the recent off field story as well they should….Jameis has some VERY serious QB flaws for a QB with his NFL experience…

  77. Bucsfancentralfl Says:

    Frankpillow,

My problem with this is that I bleed with this team. I would love to be able to turn this off. Yes when they drafted him, I thought you have a squeaky clean qb and one who is accused of rape, which one did they draft? The night of the draft JW3 posts a picture of himself in front of a tray of crab legs and now this. I think behind closed doors, Jameis hanging out with thugs, he probably thinks this is cool.

I know I’m going to still cheer for the Bucs, but I wish the owners would put players on the field that I could feel proud about cheering for. I’ve paced the carpet for way to man 4-12 seasons to stop now. The other thought is if they traded JW3 for a solid guard, I think they could win with a very average QB (Fitz).

  78. Oneilbucs Says:

Man Winston is just a man not God. I don’t expect people to be perfect. It just kills me that big Ben can move on from his problem and no one ever said he need to be cut no one in the media are there fan base. I know race plays a part in it.

  79. Brian Says:

Big Ben was punished not by the nfl but the team itself

  80. Dan Says:

Lets be honest. Even without all this distraction JW is an average qb who has teriible decision making ability. This whole idea of well he could be better blah blah blah. Thats how Chicago ended up with 100 million dollar Jay Cutler for 8 seasons. Why don’t we look at who a player is instead of who they will hopefully be. Trust your eyes folks he’s not that good!

  81. jmarkbuc Says:

    Dan

I don’t disagree. He has never passed the eye test for me.. I just know we have him for one more year ..at least, so hopefully he’s better this year.

  82. University of Seffner Says:

I would go and rant and basically make my comment look a huge article, but I’ll simply put it like this: Those Bucs Fans who are rooting for the Bucs to win but want Jameis to fail are rooting for catastrophe. Remember 2013???

  83. jmarkbuc Says:

Jameis’ failure or not is on Jameis..don’t think you have to root for it.

    Que sera sera

  84. stpetebucsfan Says:

    O’Neillbucs

I know there has been a lot of misinformation about Rapelisberger on this board.

FACT: He did not simply walk with no damage. In every stadium he visited there were signs of RAPELISBERGER…chants and jeers. There was talk about him getting the boot. But this was LONG before #metoo. BR would probably have a far different outcome nowadays…whatever…he didn’t simply skate and while I certainly concede our society has been racist my entire 70 years…this is simply not one of those times.

Just be ready for the clever fans behind our bench in other stadia who chant..

FHITP Jameis it’s better than just groping. Yeah a tasteless cheer or jeer I wouldn’t offer…but there are a lot of angry folks just looking for any excuse to vent. Jameis has given them one.

  85. Capt.Tim Says:

The league has listed him as a sexual predator
    Great face of the Franchise

Cut him, and let him go back to, Alabama, and that facinating research he was doing on cockroaches- during the “hard Knocks” episode.

We should have drafted a QB this year. I said a dozen times
    More stupidity by Management.
    Cut him,
And we’ll have to draft one next year. Im sure we’ll be in the NFC south cellar,
    If “the Grabber” plays!

  86. Tony LA Says:

Haha – I love all the commenters who are saying they’re done with the Bucs and Jameis while commenting and reading about the Bucs and Jameis on a Buccaneer related website.

Get off the high horses people
You’re ALL gonna watch the Bucs this year.
And the second Jameis hits Evans for a TD in his first game back, all of you are going to jump and cheer like a smitten teenage girl.

    Stop the posturing.
    Jameis isn’t going anywhere.

And, please, stop the blabbering about Fitz having even a remote chance of being named the full time starter. Fitz has never been to the playoffs in his entire career. In all of his biggest regular season game with actual stakes on the line he has completely melted down.

    He doesn’t have “it”.

The Bucs should go out and trade for one of the handful of starting level backups out there to compete with Fitz and then to truly push and incentivize Jameis to play his best by breathing down his neck for his job.

    Make it happen, Licht!!

  87. Maze Says:

Fitz coming out blazing taking this team to the playoffs would be amazing. Winston has a lot of learning to do.

  88. BushidoEvans Says:

My man Pete out here reaching lol

  89. Pete Says:

“There’s things in his past that I can’t speak of, and obviously don’t know what happened really in Arizona with this Uber incident. But for me, all my experiences, all my interactions with Jameis have been awesome. I’m pretty close with him. We hang out outside of football and everything. I truly do enjoy spending time with him. He’s caring, compassionate, the kind of guy you want to associate yourself with, as far as my experiences with him.”
    Cam Brate per Pewter Report
    BRAVO!
More Bucs fans should think of the young man who they have observed as Bucs QB and in our community!

  90. James Walker Says:

I find it sickening that at man in his early 20s has to act like Socrates or he is a villain. I guess Jameis’ hemlock is waiting for him.

  91. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I will root for Jameis as long as he’s a Buc. Big Ben fans love him and don’t care that he is a piece of human scum. Why, because he wins, and 95% of Bucs fans will forget about Winston’s transgressions if he wins. National media has forgotten all about Roethlisbergers sick acts. It’s time to find out if the Bucs fans can forget about Winstons. Winning is the only way.

  92. DB55 Says:

The Bucs finished 29th out of 32 NFL teams in average home announced attendance
    —————-
Allegedly more than half are away fans, so how exactly is Jameis hurting the Bucs stellar rep?

Add the fact that the Bucs have avg’d 6 wins per season in the last 10 years.

What reputation are you people talking about?

  93. Skipper Says:

Yesterday Pete I was speaking for the Glazers and the NFL front office as if he is chummy and has the inside scoop with them. Today he’s an Attorney. I am guessing Pete I is a front row singer for the tabernacle Church Choir.

  94. MadMax Says:

We haven’t signed Foles yet? Smdh….

  95. Mike Johnson Says:

In a nutshell..These Bucs will never get the right attention until they start WINNING. Attendence goes up and cigars all around. Until them we will continue to be the..Dreggs of the NFL. Can you guys imagine the positive press if we came out of the box with 3 straight opening wins?..Opps my bad, Honey you say I was snoring? I’m fully awake now.

  96. Frank Pillow Says:

A couple of points to consider on follow-up. First, the running narrative that Jameis is a barely functional starting QB is simply wrong. The kid has a predilection for being streaky and for trying to do too much. The fumbles too and some bad mechanics are concerning, but he’s as able and talented as anyone who has played the position for this team. That’s all to say he is not singlularly responsible for the W-L record and that we’re better on the field with him than without. Again, this is the dilemma facing the team- he was intended as a long term investment. How does ownership view that investment against this incident, his on the field play + his time in the locker room and community? If they’re taking the long view, they’ll let this play out and put the onus on Jameis to prove his overall worth. If they cut bait, they’ll be sacrificing a ton of invested capital (including Lovie’s salary from a coaching change)…

Yes, there’s the moral high ground- I was even standing on it last week- but if you look back throughout Bucs history (with this ownership), we’ve tolerated some questionable characters and outright scumbags with criminal charges. Is the difference #metoo? Is it winning vs losing? I remember not long ago some folks clamoring for Greg Hardy (before he signed with Dallas)…as fans what’s the true bright line?

  97. Dapostman Says:

A female co worker grabbed my junk at work once. I liked it.

  98. Pierce Says:

I think it’s playoffs or bust for both Winston and Dirk. I think there was more leeway before the suspension, but not anymore.

  99. Jerry Wicky Says:

Interesting you call big ben a sleaze and you call Jameis America’s quarterback and Pro Bowler. Just sayin

  100. JAB83 Says:

[Who said you were banned? Paranoid much? Guilty conscience? You sure seem to want to be banned the way you freak out half the time. Just a matter of time it seems. – Joe]
