Peyton Barber Dropped Significant Weight, Added Quickness

Back in June, Dirk Koetter talked about how surprised he was when he’d look at his player-weight sheet and see Peyton Barber checking in at 235 pounds.

Koetter remarked then that Barber was too quick and just didn’t look big enough to be that size.

Well, Joe went 1-on-1 with Barber after training camp practice today, and now Joe knows Koetter won’t be wondering how Barber is looking great at a fullback-like weight.

Barber told Joe that he’s down to 225 pounds and he feels quicker and stronger, all part of an offseason plan to improve on every aspect of his game.

Now in his third Bucs season as an undrafted rookie out of Auburn, Barber acknowledged that it’s a little different being the No. 1 running back coming into camp but he has the exact same “underdog approach” to everything football.

Barber and RoJo = Key to success.

This is a major reason why some of us are getting so excited. It will not matter one bit to these two RB’s who is playing QB. What will matter is who is playing OL and how well are they playing.

I’m pretty much loading it on the OL and DL this year. If the OL could play really well…both Fameis and Fitz will be successful with all of our targets…and Barber and ROJO will also succeed.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

Barber is going to be Klueless favorite friend and savoir

Barber 1st and 2nd runs is going to be the key to Klueless offense

People are sleeping on this kid I liked him more then dougillac 2 years ago when he was undrafted. I think he has a big year I’d bet. He reminds me of the guy who played in washington and had a few big years then played well in Dallas last year i always 4get his name.

Honestly speaking, imo when given an opportunity Barber has been the best running back on our squad for the last 2 years…

Doug Martin was done after 2015 and Sims is more receiver than RB…Glad to see Barber get a legit shot to start, I think he’s going to surprise alot of people…

  6. Bucsfan951 Says:

The key this season will be the o line. If they can block well and give these rb’s a little room, the running game will take off and that’ll open up the passing game. I expect to see a big improvement in the defense this year as well!

  7. Not there yet Says:

Rooting for everyone to step there game up and win games we aren’t expected to just to read about everyone back tracking on records for this team and doubt on the success we could have

  8. BringBucsBack Says:

It’s not hard to pull for the young man. I too think he will play well and surprise!

    Alfred Morris?

  10. Season Is Over Says:

Jones is under 200. Barber is 225 and Rodgers is around 200. Sims is around 210. Most of this group will be on IR before mid-season. The switching of the OL and all of coming injuries will make for plenty of excuses as to why the running game fails once again. Licht will have to bring in an actual NFL RB before the season starts or it is over before it begins.

  11. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m still pissed that Rashaad Penny went in the first round. That was a hard one to swallow. Now he’s the enemy.

  12. OneBuc55 Says:

Season is over, I respect your opinion but that’s a pretty dark forecast for our running game this season…

I thought Doug Martin was very indecisive, Sims imo is strictly a 3rd down back, and Rodgers shouldn’t be even be on the team; Im surprised we couldn’t replace him this off-season…Enter in Rojo, I was happy with the pick, I would have preferred Penny or Mitchell; that being said, we just cat over use Jones…All in all I really like our RB situation with Rodgers being the exception…

As someone stated above, our Offensive line really needs to step up for us this year if we’re going to make any kind of push for the playoffs…

  13. MC Shado 31 Says:

I didn’t recognize him when I first saw him today. He could be in for break out year here, with RoJo being able to stay fresh late into games.

    Shado 31, out.

    @Chis in wa.
Yep that’s him. He was a pretty good player for them.

  16. Skipper Says:

@season is over, Warwick Dunn rarely missed games and played around 185 throughout his career.

  17. Skipper Says:

Walter Peyton, Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders were not big backs, peyton and Sanders @ around 200lbs, Smith @ around 210.
