Early Sunday Injury; Early Sunday Fumble

July 29th, 2018

Some major rookie action this morning as practice kicked off in pads for the first time at Training Camp 2018 — and none of it was good.

During the first 11-on-11 action of the session, just three plays in, rookie RB Ronald Jones ran right and was stripped by Kwon Alexander. Oh, boy. Dirk Koetter is not going to forget that one. Hopefully, Jones remembers it, too, and doesn’t do it again.

On the next play, Vita Vea limped off and was greeted by trainers on the field. He was not carted off after being looked at on the sidelines, so that’s at least some form of a good sign.

Stick with Joe all day for more from Day 4 of camp.

    thx bro!!

  2. teacherman777 Says:

    Maybe I’m wrong about Kwon!

    Maybe we should keep him!

Would he sign a 5 year, 35 million, fully guaranteed contract?

Would players start accepting lower contracts in exchange for more guarantees?

    Something to consider!!

  3. stpetebucsfan Says:

Injuries are the worst part of football! Obviously for the players but for the fans as well.

Now we all get to sweat out who we can put on the field for each game…and it’ll be every week…in fact every day. I hate injuries.

  4. Destinjohnny Says:

    Guice

  5. Destinjohnny Says:

Talking to a buddy in Washington
He said Guice was the buzz of camp
When do vets ever get excited about a rookie?

  6. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Passing on guice will be another reason the next regime is gonna be building the franchise from the bottom again

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

    Welcome to padded practices RoJo.

  8. Broy34 Says:

So a strip in camp means you’re now convinced to resign Kwon?

  9. Broy34 Says:

And here we go again with destinjohnny whining about who we didn’t draft. Dude. Have you not seen over and over and over people being “the talk of camp”. Like the dudes gonna just run for 1700

  10. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Snake bitten franchise if i’ve ever seen one.

  11. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Oh and Joe, Vea WAS carted off, which is a terrible sign.

  12. Not there yet Says:

Training camp is the the place to make mistakes. No one comes into the league with perfect technique. He’ll learn and get better. Don’t care about training camp, it matters to me when the lights come on for preseason. As far as vea goes I’m not worried because if the depth we have if this is not a serious injury

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Passing on Guice might come back to haunt us, but we all need to remember the effect a problem running back had on us. I think Doug Martin’s problems made us overly gunshy of Guice.
I think it was felt that the last thing we needed here in Tampa was another running back with Issues.

  14. Pete I Says:

NFL network showed Vea being carted off after limping to the cart. According to Pewter Report.

  15. LargoBuc Says:

Better that Jones gets stripped now than in September. The vets are supposed school the rooks in camp.

  16. Pete I Says:

    PewterReport

    @PewterReport
#Bucs first round pick, DT Vita Vea, leaves practice on a cart after suffering what appeared to be a left calf injury:

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Calf injuries are not too bad are they? (I hope)

I’m glad Ronald Jones fumbled. It forces him to address the possibility early in camp so he might be prepared to prevent it in the regular season.

Not drafting Guise will not come back to haunt is, because with the way the OL is now built, almost any RB can produce.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

PR has video of him being carted off.

  19. johnnybuc Says:

    how’s carlton davis been looking

  20. Destinjohnny Says:

    Right on broy
Having M.J. Stewart who will be an average slot corner is much mo better then having a bull of back that runs for 1500 yards
I’ve seen him run in person and he is a tone setting violent runner
Rojo is an angular 6’0 200 pound 3rd down back that cant catch or block

  21. EA Says:

    Here we go!!!

  22. PoundTheRock Says:

ROJO fumbled?….remember Kareem Hunt’s regular season 1st touch was a fumble. He turned out to be pretty good lol

  23. Ugandan Knuckles Says:

Guice had character issues. I think we’ve taken enough risks on guys with character issues.

  24. Dooshlarue Says:

Rojo getting stripped is a rookie mistake, I’m sure he’ll remember it.

I mean we have a 4th year QB who never makes the same mistakes right?
Oh, wait what was that……..another attempted pass instead of throwing it away or taking a sack?

Oh I know, we can just call Rojo a run-slinger (sic) and all is well.

Seriously man, some of you guys are ridiculous.

  25. Jman5 Says:

We have enough character issues behind center. Why draft another behind qb?

  26. Jim Says:

    What Knuckles said…

  27. Stanglassman Says:

VV injury is reported as just a calf strain.

  28. Bird Says:

Hopefully vita vea and Leonard Wester are back soon

Sounds like JPP is unblockable. And can play any spot for mismatch h. Find the opposing team weak spot.

Can’t double JPP and McCoy at same time. Unless you bring on tightend to chip. But again that means opposing team has 6 olineman then

  29. Bird Says:

Sounds like this will be gholston’s last year.

Can we cut before season and save his 7 mil or 7.5. He can’t play big or small it appears. Well good against run but not worth that money

  30. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @bird

No if we wanted to save any money on Gholston we would have needed to do so a while back. Some time before free agency I believe.

  31. Defense Rules Says:

@Bonzai … “Not drafting Guise will not come back to haunt is, because with the way the OL is now built, almost any RB can produce.” Wow Bonzai, you sure do have a LOT more confidence in our OLine than I do. But only time will tell …

@Bird … “Sounds like this will be gholston’s last year.” Where did that come from Bird? I’ve been thinking that with this improved interior DLine that Gholston will do very well this year. IF GMC, Allen & Vea are as good as advertised, QBs will end up getting flushed out of the pocket laterally on a sizable number of plays. And IF that happens, ALL of our DEs should reap the benefits.

Don’t think that Licht passing on Guice will be a huge deal, but NOT drafting a bruiser back (like Bo Scarborough) WILL come back to haunt us (especially near the goal line).

  32. DalvinCookRules Says:

Ronald Jones has a frail natural bone structure. He is NOT fit to be an every down back. This should’ve been obvious to any scout worth his salt. He was a 3rd round draft pick, at best, a guy with enough speed & quickness that you roll the dice and hope he can be something more than a change of pace RB.

  33. Destinjohnny Says:

Defense rules> you are spot on with bo
To get him with 7th pick wow
The question with him is durability
But if he is healthy…look the F out

  34. Kobe Faker Says:

“2018 draft will be known for passing on 2 10 year all pros in Derwin James and Derrius Guice for a bunch of backup MEH”

“Rule #1- Never ever go against Kobe Fakers player evaluations”

    Kobe Faker

  35. Destinjohnny Says:

Kobe I think passing on Rosen will be the mistake

  36. Buc believer Says:

I guess Vea has been training with GMC

  37. Dooshlarue Says:

    DCR,

Yeah, Rojo should be build more like your namesake Dalvin Cook.
    He never gets hurt.

  38. ChipBuc Says:

I don’t think we have to worry about Jones fumbling to much. Jones in 3 years of college ,some 591 carries fumbled only 2 times. So history says not to worry, we will see.

  39. BigMacAttack Says:

How dare a rookie make a rookie mistake. Does the team stretch before practice? Or do they just go through the motions? Do any of them take yoga classes? Tight muscles can cramp and tear especially in extreme heat.

  40. feelthepewterpower Says:

Sounds like cramps, Joe!! Need to get the Buccs on a magnesium regimen! Would cut down the number of soft tissue injuries, pulls, spasms, and cramps by a decent margin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. D1 Says:

    Feelthepewter,

Do you sell vitamins specifically magnesium?
You seem to have a bit of that true believer syndrome, frequently seen in herb-a-life , Amway and various MLM schemes, cults or independent franchisees. Since you have posted frequently about the idea it’s obvious that the hypothesis part is what makes sense to you. What about the tests and trail results?

Why would the Bucs institute a magnesium supplement program based upon a hypothesis that has failed in clinical trials? It doesn’t make sense.

  42. D1 Says:

    Doosh,

    Gunslinger…..brilliant!
If Rojo is under 24 well……you know.
