Brate Says He’s Not Football Smart

July 8th, 2018

Book smart.

There is book smart and there is football smart.

Cam Brate said not only is that true, but that he’s not football smart, despite his Ivy League degree.

Brate simply cannot do an interview on a national level without someone asking a Harvard-related question. And that happened again as Brate appeared recently on “The Blitz,” co-hosted by Brady Quinn and Brian Custer (not George) heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Brate was asked if backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, also Harvard-educated, being in the same offensive meetings with the Bucs takes any heat off of him when it comes to answering tough questions.

“I would say football intelligence and book intelligence are two different things,” Brate said. “So for me, I fall more into the book intelligence. Guys kind of figured that out quickly about me.

“Getting Ryan was big for me because it took a lot of pressure off of me. Because Ryan actually is super smart both in football and books. Guys will look to Ryan for stuff and I get a free pass which is great.”

Well, Joe hopes both Fitz and Brate put their Ivy League heads together and figure out a way to steal a win while America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, serves his sentence.

That’s all those guys need to do. Steal a win in the first three weeks of the season.

    Wow, humble. If he isn’t football smart I’d hate to see how book smart he is then. He is a rare find, for the Bucs.

    We need more Brate’s on this team.

  2. Capt.Tim Says:

    Yeah, stealing a win in the first 3 weeks is very important
    That way we dont go 0-16, when “Americas sexual offender” fumbles and bumbles away the next 13 games.

    Lord forbid we get another number 1 pick!!
    Who knows what kind of deviant we’d sign this time!

    @Capt Tim

    Your not a Buc fan. That is hate speech, and saying false facts. Let’s grow up and understand the law. No charges, never been charged with anything, makes you innocent. Would you call a family member same things if they where innocent by law? Think about that.

    There’s football smart, book smart, and just plain stupid. Don’t waste your time trying to explain anything to stupid.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I’m repeating this for some but:

    Because of Harvard, Brate & Fitz should have some chemistry…..and economics, algebra and physics together.

  6. Buc4L Says:

    Go home @Capt Tim, nobody wants to hear your constant negativity. There is a reason why you constantly post negative BS, and I’m sure it has nothing to do with the Bucs.
    GO BUCS!!!!!

    @TBBF

    I admit I didn’t get it the first time I read it..figured it out rereading the thread.
    And I give you credit…that was a good one!

    @PeteI

    Yes. Brate is the epitome of what my parents wanted me to be. Successful but modest and self effacing with a sense of humor. Joking about how Fitz gets him off the hook is amusing self deprecation.

    My parents always said….if you have to say something about yourself…tooting your own horn or whatever…it’s really meaningless because ANYBODY can say how great they are. It’s what other folks observe about you that shows your real success level…who you really are. People who have to run their mouths bragging about themselves are actually very very insecure folks who are to be pitied.

    Steal a win? Fitz was 2-1 last year, while Winston was 3-10. I am not sugesting Fitz is as good as Winston but he won two games, threw 7 TDs to 3 INTs. He is a capable back up and if the rest of the offense supports him, the Bucs have more than enough weapons to compete. All of these articles speculating doom and gloom before the first game has been played are silly. Its a new year, you can’t predict losses this year based on other teams record last year. Otherwise whats the point of even playing the games?

  9. Maze Says:

    First 3 weeks, but I thought it was a 16 week season?

  10. James Walker Says:

    Everyone has written off the Bucs. I honestly think that these first three teams may actually not prepare as hard as they should thinking it will be an ez win. That is something that I normally never think.

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

    And I suppose you geniuses think that Jameis lost tens of millions of dollars, any hope at sponsorship, a huge hit to his already damaged “character”, and agreed to a 3 game suspension with out protest,
    All because he was innocent

    Please tell me people arent that stupid.

    If he were innocent- he would fight to the death- to save all the money this will cost him. You’d have to be a fool to think otherwise.

    The NfL wont reveal the evidence that their investigation uncovered- Because it would hurt both Jameis AND the NFL.
    He agreed to all of this financially disasterous arrangement, to prevent. Their findings from being made public.

    Or Meybe you brain surgeons believe that Jameis threw away all that money and potential Sponsorship- because of a case based on hearsay!!!
    Lmfao

    The NFL doesnt want to prove he did to the public. Thats the last thing they want. They get Jameis to except punishment quietly. They payoff the Uber driver. Issue inconclusive statements. That leaves room for not so bright people to see doubt, and for fools to make up excuses

    Thats the sad place they’ve put us in.

    Of Course Brate is standing up for Jameis. Have you EVER seen teammates turn on each other?
    The Bucs PR department has coached all of them on what to say by now.
