Bank On Kwon
July 27th, 2018The big thing about contracts this summer is the hand-wringing over the future of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes one Bucs player that will get a contract extension before the preseason is finished. And that would be middle linebacker Kwon Alexander.
If Jameis Winston wasn’t a merely average starter with questionable leadership skills and even more questionable off-field behavior, he might be a prime candidate for an extension before the season. He isn’t, though.
A young player who is deserving of an early extension is linebacker Kwon Alexander. Originally a fourth-round pick out of LSU, Alexander has developed into one of the top off-ball linebackers in the entire league.
In just three seasons, Alexander has racked up 335 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 20 passes defended and six interceptions.
Joe only wishes that last year Kwon would have confronted offsides-jumping, Lightning-trolling, belly-shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star, half-sack Swaggy Baker long before the second-last game of the season.
Who knows, maybe things would have been far different. But at least Kwon took the initiative, unlike other self-proclaimed leaders on the team.

pay the man, he earned it.

There’s a pecking order in locker rooms that centers around who makes what…..I think the young guys have realized GMC isn’t the type of player that holds people accountable through confrontation. He’s a very good player and true professional of his craft but he’s not an alpha dog personality. Kwon is and seems to finally be making it known on the defense. I think when he gets paid….it will put the stamp on his stature in the locker room.

@Lunchbox- I see GMC because whether or not you agree with his methods, Jameis DOES make the attempt to lead. I saw GMC and his more nonchalant “I lead by example’ mentality.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report is a twit.
“If Jameis Winston wasn’t a merely average starter with questionable leadership skills and even more questionable off-field behavior, he might be a prime candidate for an extension before the season.”
Since when would a team give a new, more expensive contract to a player with 2 years left on his contract?

Bucs D will be legit this year. Silver lining behind the JW debacle is that the Bucs Organization will have plenty of money to re-sign these defensive players that need to be paid. They can then go out and get an inexpensive rookie quarterback via the draft

Jameis would not be a prime candidate for an extension this offseason with 2 years left on his deal. That would happen next season with one year left on his deal just like it happened for mccoy, lvd, dotson, evans etc. That is why you are hearing that marpet, kwon, donovan smith may all have contracts by the start of the season. Man some in this fan base really have no clue or just like to spew random jibberish. The joe that wrote this article must be the one that does not like jameis very much.

I think he was referring to the captain who plays right next to Baker! You know the one everyone claims looks bad because of his line mates.
July 27th, 2018 at 10:11 am
Joe, please move forward. Last season is gone. Baker is gone. This reads great until the last end when you dive into the negative. Are you auditioning for CNN or Fox? Get over it bro. Think positive.

That takeaway from Julio Jones was worth about $5 mil in my book…..pay the man….anyone who is capable of doing that needs to be paid.

5 year extension (through 2023) – $48M – $24M Guaranteed (2019 and 2020 at $9.5M per + $5M signing bonus this year).
Pay the man. He earned it.
This is your year to put it all together and dominate Kwon!

Love when people sitting at home on their couch eating greasy chips tell Joe what to write.
Get over yourselves. If he has a slight grudge that nobody truly stepped up to confront that moron, it’s his prerogative.
I’m still frustrated that no one in the front office could see this idiot was of the character to be a jerk to the kicker and then jump offsides when 90,000 were hoping he would.
Just think Joe, if he hadn’t jumped offsides, we wouldn’t be in position for an amazing draft haul. 🙂

1. Why not?
2. Joe runs a business, not a charity.

Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it. If you don’t learn from the past, what do you learn from?
Joe writes about “the real.” If that is negative, so be it. If that is positive, so be it.

Oh, how about last night when the Dixie Chicks decided to rework Julio Jones’ contract despite having two years left?
July 27th, 2018 at 1:21 pm
Kwon is not Julio Jones…pulease! Holy bad comparisons…bat man. Kwon is not even the best LB in his division (Kuechly). I am not sure Kwon is in the top 10 LB in NFL. Id say he is in that 10-15 range.
I think some of you smoke too much Buc practice grass.

Average qb? What dope you’re on? Here use this. Please.
