“Savior?”

June 4th, 2018

Lofty expectations.

It seems someone needs to take a cold shower. And no, not because someone just came back from Clearwater Beach where a bunch of Hooters calendar girls were frolicking.

Someone at Bleacher Report may have done Gary Davenport a disservice by dropping in a headline that rookie cornerback Carlton Davis could save the Bucs secondary, using the word “savior” to describe Davis.

In his brief about Davis, it is clear Davenport is cautious.

It’s far too early to get overly excited about Davis’ prospects in 2018 based off a few practices. But given how rotten the Bucs were against the pass last season, it’s hard not to.

Well, Joe is very much in a wait-and-see mode. Nothing against Davis in any way. But it is well-documented on this here corner of the interwebs what Joe feels is the terrible non-development of young corners by this current Bucs defensive staff.

Until the Bucs can prove otherwise, Joe wants to see Davis play and excel before Joe is going to start buying shots in celebration.

Davis very well could turn out to be a stud. Recent history has Joe with low expectations.

Tampa Bay Bucs!!! Were the sheep claim every draft pick is a “savior” and every free-agent is a “team leader” that will bring much needed leadership!!!!! The thing that joe and the so-called fans don’t get about development, is that you have to give time to develop!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

Agree Joe. They couldnt have done worse developing DBs the last couple years. Now do they play Davis off 10 yards after Licht drafted him to press? I dont doubt it. They supposedly played off last year because they didnt have a pass rush and didnt wana get beat deep. Still got beat deep more than any other team but one. Bad bad coaching. Hope the coaching gets better. Some people will say all we needed was better players. Not the case at all. Most games will be one score games regardless of the rosters. Which coaching staff will win it n which will lose it.

  4. Buc50 Says:

You could say that the DBs have had terrible development maybe because we have picked the wrong guys.

Realist: Thats known as being a FAN! Even tho your take is VALID ! Keep posting bro. GO BUCS!!!

  6. Joe Says:

    Yes, thank you Darin.

Realist… Eventually one of us will be right. We have sucked for so long. The pendulum has to swing the other way eventually right? So damnit why can’t he be our savior.

I do feel as though we got a lot of saviors this year. I got a sneaky feeling this team may be surprising a lot of people this year. Dare I say 3-1 out of the gate!

SHHHH!!! We all know the rest!!

    No Monday Morning Joe?

I’m pretty excited over this off season, but I agree with Joe. Wait-and-see mode for individual players.

And I’m still not ready to give up on VHIII and Ryan Smith.

He is playing next to VH3. Gotta have good rotation whether it be with players on the field or passing the Dutchie correctly through the positions.

It’s tough to get excited about a guy who’s never set foot on an NFL field. If nothing else, we certainly have better depth at the position. What quality of depth? That’s the question.
    Go get ’em youngster!

  11. Not there yet Says:

So let’s get this right vh3 comes in and starts as a rookie simply because of where he was drafted our was he the best option at corner? How can you start 2 years and blame coaching staff?

Ok javien Elliott and Ryan Smith weren’t developed. Who says they should develop into starters? I think they developed into what they are. Guys who don’t have the talent to start.

I’m rooting for Carlton Davis so hard because if a guy who didn’t play much off ball coverage comes in and takes it from the veterans it blows your stupid narrative up.

Vh3 was developed enough to be a week one starter but it’s the coaches fault he didn’t get better the second year? Hmmm I’m more curious what he did himself to get better in the off-season because I think he didn’t do a thing

  12. Guzziep Says:

Fantastic job by Licht upgrading the talent, every year Licht tries to get fresh blood in here only to be undermined by horrible coaching schemes, Lovie was arguably the worst coach in franchise history and that’s impressive in itself, but Klueless Koetter has had the most offensive talent in franchise history without a doubt, and seems to be getting worst each year, coaching will be the 2018 seasons downfall, the one obvious problem Licht didn’t fix, unfortunately 5 losing seasons in 6 years will probably cost one of the better GMs in franchise history his job due to bad coaching #JIMSCHWARZ2019

  13. Bucnjim Says:

Is it can’t develop worth a crap or can’t polish a turd? There is a really good CB named Grimes on the team players can learn from even if the coaching style isn’t what it should be. Most employees learn the majority of their job from co workers.

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

I have a good feeling about Davis, more like a hunch he will be a good player.

  15. BucNole Says:

Development and or living up to potential is affected by a culture of success.
This team has a losing culture – you cant tell me that anyone drafted by the pats would come in soft and not give it everything they have. . . someone in that room would call them out for sure.
We have very few leaders on this team and Im not even sure the coaches have any fire in them.
So who is gonna hold you accountable???
If VH3 doesnt give 100% what are they gonna do?? they hav literally noone to replace him.
We need more butt kickers like Buckner.

  16. Destinjohnny Says:

I would have drafted Darius Guice instead of M.J.
We would have been so set at rb.
Davis was so stout against quality wideouts in college.
    So stoked to have him.

Day one starter and Day one stud….no development time needed!
