Report: Jameis Alone With Uber Driver

An attorney for a convicted rapist claims Jameis Winston was alone with a female Uber driver in Arizona and that the notorious Ronald Darby was not a passenger.
Mark Scruggs, who represents former Vanderbilt cornerback Brandon Banks, told ESPN that Winston was sent home from a nightclub in the night in question because he was intoxicated and “unruly.“
“What happened after that,” Scruggs said, “they cannot say.”
Winston, per Scruggs, was partying with Banks and Darby.
The Uber ride Scruggs details was one of two Uber rides Winston had that night.
Banks was later convicted of rape and sexual assault and sentenced to 15 years in the hole for an incident that took place in June 2013.
If this allegation is true, it suggests Winston and Darby could have concocted a con and lied to the NFL.

After JW, Josh Freeman, and Doug Martin (three first round picks!), the Bucs should at least fire the security team investigating the backgrounds of drafted players. The franchise cannot afford any more first round mistakes due to character concerns, which clearly impact their ability to be on the field. From the day they drafted Jameis, I stated it wasn’t what he did in the public eye and during the season…we would see who he is when he’s alone and unsupervised during his first off season. The incident took place during his first offseason and away from the team. We know Jameis has run with some bad people. And it likes the bad people running with Jameis…may be running with bad people too. Looks more and more like Jameis is a BS artist. HOWEVER, let’s see how true all this is. And let’s then consider what else happens with this guy that doesn’t make the news.

Well here’s the thing, Even if every claim that the uber driver makes is true, it’s not like some egregiously violent offense. In my eyes, even if everything she says is true, the only thing Jameis is guilty of is being too drunk and trying (very poorly and inappropriately) to make a move on an attractive girl.
Not saying that’s totally fine and not a problem, but it’s not like he tried to force things beyond that or did anything heinously aggressive. Gimme a break. People have done FAR worse things under the influence of alcohol than place their hand lightly on someones junk for a few seconds.

I’ve read a slightly different take on Darby’s “presence”. Some have said Darby was in the car with Jameis at the start of the ride but he got out and wasn’t in the car during the time of the allegation.
There is only one silver lining to this. It’s only July 1st. We have some time to make a decision. Is it fish or cut bait?
On one hand the franchise has invested all this time and money and it appears to many that Jamies is ready to finally pay dividends…on the other hand we have a repeat (fill in the blank…aggressor or victim of fake charges) How much confidence do we have that Jameis has put all of this behind him.
What will the 2018 season look like without Jameis…for three games or what if the Bucs trade him for a load of draft picks next year.
I’m NOT saying we should do this. Just pointing out that you can be sure one of the options being viewed at OBP is trading Jameis for a bunch of picks…putting our faith in the newly rebuilt defense and our newly refurbished running game. Those two combined when played well can produce lots of close wins.
I would not want to be Licht and Koetter this evening. Do they double down and put all their chips on the table on Jameis? Or do the they hedge their bets and give up while they still have a season to show how they’ve done with the rest of the team.

Here is a summation of “allegations” by various people the evening in question.
NONE of these people…including the girl Kate…have filed any suits or in any way tried to extort money.
It has been reported that Jameis and Darby were out partying and Jameis got toasted and so they decided to send him home…in an Uber…at least they were smart enough not to drive.
Then Katy reported that drunken Jameis yelled homophobic slurs out of her car window and then grabbed her.
I believe there are some here who believe three games for crotch grabbing is probably a fair punishment for a bad but not career ending act. Others believe any girl so violated means the guy should lose more than just three games.
Now I might get busted for bringing politics into this conversation but that is not my intents. But there are some facts in our land that in fairness would make us all look at whatever Jameis did in a different light.
How bad was what Jameis did? The President of the United States is on the record…ON TAPE…boasting of sexual assault and pssy grabbing. If the President of the U.S. can do it without repercussion…surely three games is more than enough for the QB of the Tampa Bay Bucs. The older I get the crazier society gets…it’s just bizarro world

Darby was the first one that said that he was in the car with another person. I don’t recall Jameis saying there was multiple people in the car with him. We still don’t know what happened. No real proof that he did what he was accused of doing. But, it does put a stain on his image as it is today. Right now I wouldn’t get rid of him.

A young man parties, probably gets intoxicated and possibly acts stupidly with an Uber driver and doesn’t follow NFL protocol in reporting the incident, -forget all the self appointed judges and juries who are coming to conclusions without evidence – again, the so-called victim never called police, so I doubt if this got to level of sexual assault
He is facing suspension, loss of pay, additional NFL mandates and public humiliation.
Maybe Jameis has a problem with handling alcohol? Seems to me with his recent public service philanthropy activities, he is trying to change into a positive person.
Let him take his punishment and then see how he moves forward.

The only good thing out of all this for the bucs is they can probably lock him into a second contract right now for about half of what it would have cost and make it performance driven contract with low yearly salaries where we can dump him if he does anything else stupid or keeps turning the ball over at a record pace. I’m all for second chances. That’s why I was ok the Bucs took Winston first overall, even with his checkered past. Now, the Bucs have to sleep in the proverbial $hit they created by rolling snake eyes with Winston. I remember when this story broke day one that most people were glossing over the fact that he was drunk and yelling obscenities out the window of the car, and that the Winston camp didn’t deny this.
That kind of behavior alone part of the reason Johnny Manziel is playing in the CFL right now. The last thing the organization needs is a cell phone video of him doing stupid stuff coming out of a bar after midnight and yelling an explicit tirade ending up on TMZ. You have to wonder if all the Charity stuff Winston has been doing over the years has been him trying to sooth a guilty conscious. I hate that I am now questioning what else we don’t know.
O.J. Simpson was well liked by the media and fans prior to 95 and had many defenders from USC and the NFL who refused to believe that he could do any wrong. I wasn’t old enough to appreciate that case then but it’s shocking how many people don’t realize how big a deal this is now.

The drama is flowing over the top. If Winston is out 3 games let him prove his mettle when he returns to play out the season. Reading some of these responses some would think a major crime has been committed. Winston deserves the chance to right any past wrongs. See how his upcoming season goes and make any changes based on his play on the field in games that count. This is what I think will happen.

I’m extremely confused now. So this was one of two Uber rides according to the third guy so it was a ride to the club with two other guys that he paid for then a ride to his hotel alone when the incident happened? How could he possibly think no one could find that out? Uber could easily come out and confirm how many roses and the times he took them…..I honestly think everyone already knows this information within the NFL office and bucs organization

I know that if it were my daughter that went through the exact same circumstances, she would be completely fine in the long run. People are not fragile beings incapable of living through trivial adversity caused in relatively harmless situations like that.
Now if he had taken it a step further and try to force her to do something beyond her consent, different story altogether. Basically what I view the situation as is Jameis having being drunk, misreading signals, and having extremely poor “game”.

I personally feel like that series of events, while morally questionable certainly cannot be conflated with the R word or even assault. Had he continued beyond that, different story.

So I’ve been bashed by everyone on JBF for making false claims. I said last year at close to this time that we’d go 12-4. I can’t find the archive to prove it though. So everyone is challenging me to back it up with proof. Several people have publicly called me a liar because they don’t believe I made such a prediction.
At the risk of inviting unrelenting ridicule, I believed that Jameis was innocent and was apoplectic that the NFL would suspend Jameis if he was innocent of the groping. Guess what, people in this country aren’t judged by things they are accused of doing, and even with that being said, their are countless numbers of individuals who have been convicted of breaking the law, and have gone on to be rehabilited and go on to live successful law-abiding lives. And thank god for that.
I’d personally hate to live in a society that blindly persecuted against the accused, and didn’t allow for second chances. Especially young men who are dumb and drunk.
Like I’ve asserted numerous times, even if Jameis did exactly what this uber driver says he did, he hasn’t committed a violently egregious, unforgivable offense for which he should have his career destroy. And if you do, I’m thankful that you aren’t the guy making those kind of decisions.

She reported it to her boss, which she should. Especially if there’s tape of it. Whether she felt violated or not.
She didn’t call the cops, and only got a lawyer when it broke in the news. I haven’t heard any ransom demands or media plays from her camp. My bet is she doesn’t have a whole lot to be worried about. She hasn’t pushed anything.

It’s clear that we fundamentally disagree on the definition of what does and does not constitute sexual assault. Had Jameis, who AGAIN has been convicted of zilch, disregarded her rejection, and had he tried to force himself upon her violently against her consent, that would constitute sexual assault.
What he’s been accused of is an inappropriate failed pick up attempt under the influence of alcohol, and nothing more.

People on this thread badly need to look up the different from sexually harassment and sexually assault.
The driver didn’t say Jameis threaten her or had a weapon forcing her to allow him to touch her. (That example is sexual assault. fyi.)
She said he touched her and stop after she told him to stop. (This is sexual harassment that was refused by the recipient.)

It’s truly a sad situation. Whether Jameis Winston is guilty or innocent, he’s in need of prayer. If he’s guilty, pray that he’ll learn from his mistakes, that he’ll have a change of heart, and for the punishment to be what it should be. If he’s innocent, pray that he’ll be able to put this mess behind him, for him not to be overwhelmed by the attention and hate he’s getting, and for the punishment to be served towards the Uber Driver for all the Defemation that has occurred due to her allegation towards him.

I also am a firm believer that the punishment should fit the crime. Considering that I view this to be a rude and improper incident, and not an egregious criminal offense if it’s even true, which again, you refuse to admit that it still very well not be true. That being said, a 3 game suspension costing 125k is more than fair.

I have had my ass/crotch/arms grabbed by male/female people who were intoxicated, while on the job and driving.. I chalk it up to being intoxicated/drugged up and I actually appreciate the fact that they called for a ride, instead of driving/DWI, which kills people. Facts aside, he has made a woman feel I am not defending Jamies. He lied, not a good look…especially with his past. But, we are crucifying him, without all the facts. Can’t wait till the report is published..before passing judgement. And, i get what people are saying about how they have never been accused of what Jameis has/age wise. Did you take into consideration, everyone’s life/path is different than yours.

I’ll remind you again. Allegedly He put his hand, over her jeans, on her crotch area for 3-5 seconds. She asked him “what’s up with that?” and then he removed his hand. And filed no criminal charges against him afterward.

Jameis was intoxicated and unruly, he probably grabbed the girls private–she said stop-he did–seriously so what. Yeah it is wrong and it is weird but honestly not the huge deal everyone is making it out to be. It was two years ago. He was 21 years old, who here has not done really stupid stuff when intoxicated. Why should the Bucs get rid of Jameis–unless he cannot stop the turnovers or win more games. The most important thing is to put this behind us and move on with Fitz for first games till JW is back. What Jameis needs is a body guard/keeper to prevent this type of issue or accusation going forward. Never go out without your keeper when you are this rich and have so much to lose. People on this site need to get ready to get behind defense, so many new players that are exciting to follow. Jameis will be gone for a few games but we can still win and compete. Give it time and this problem will solve itself.

I have gone back and read this story 4 or 5 times now on this page and all i have concluded is that this is still just speculation. What in the heck does “Report: Jameis was alone with uber driver”
There’s still nothing to suggest he did anything, yes we already know he was in the car, this much is old news, this whole damn article is rehashing old crap, what we need to know is did he do anything? That’s the underlying question here.
This attorney doesn’t know anything new that we already didn’t know. And how does attorney factor into this case? is he part of the representation of Winston or the accuser? I mean where in the heck did he get this news from?

Are people sure this story is what they’re running around yapping about? From what I can surmise, he got 3 games for a combination of failure to report and consorting with a questionable character like Banks who refused to speak to them and thus nothing else was corroborated. People kill me with thinking the NFL tracked cell phones and stuff. That just went to the Supreme Court yesterday and is difficult for even law enforcement to get and now takes a warrant to get. But as usual, Tampa shows their true colors if you give them a chance.

It does go to show that if people state an opinion as fact enough, others will adopt that opinion too, sometimes even unwittingly without using their own critical thinking skills. I know critically thinking though that if this was corroborated, he would have gotten more than 3 games. He’s not a Manning and he doesn’t play for the Giants. Not to mention he came into the league with that cloud on his head, so yeah, pretty sure this would be 6 or 8 if he was proven to be lying. Not only that, but so would Darby be suspended. But by all means, believe what Banks put out through his attorney after refusing to speak to investigators.

Look, you seem to be misunderstanding what I’m saying. Also you are speaking from a standpoint as if he is for sure 100 percent guilty, which definitely isn’t the case. But assuming if it did happen this is how I view it.
Allegedly he was heavily drunk to the point of being asked to leave, again consider that he was 22 when this supposedly happened, and as we all know, being heavily intoxicated severely effects ones decision making.
Is the thing he’s accused of doing wrong and kind of gross? Yeah it objectively is. I certainly wouldn’t skip 1st and 2nd base like that as my opener, but I’ve seen many women do the same kind of thing in a similar state, both to guys and other chicks. And do you know what? Sometimes, when the signals are clear and the other party is clearly into it they are totally fine with it and it’s a non-issue.
So from my perspective, this accusation reads a lot more as a severely drunk dude reading the signals completely wrong, and making a rash move which got completely shut down. AND THEN, immediately upon realizing that he was being rejected, he showed restraint and stopped.
Now I don’t know about you, but to me that doesn’t sound like the actions of crazed and depraved sexual offender.

I hate to break it to folks…..but the NFL has asked all these questions those playing devil’s advocate are throwing out there. Winstons camp i assure you has tried to spin this any way possible with their own questions….After all that, the NFL came back with 3 games + additional requirements. Winston supposedly isn’t appealing.
This whole idea that Winston is a target is misguided…..All the NFL, NBA, MLB, players are “targets”. Tiger Woods…huge target that was out there hound dogging it up…..So how is it NOBODY else in any other sport has THREE CLAIMS OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AGAINST THEM….OR ANY? By the age of 22, Winston has THREE incidents….No other pro athlete has even TWO! The overwhelming majority dont even have one.
I believe Winston made inappropriate contact with that driver….While certainly rude and out of bounds, i think the gal brushed it off as nothing more then another drunk dude using Uber….That’s kind of how i see it as well. The issue is how he responded, that’s where the damage lies. His approach is shame the victim publicly….His approach is the he said/she said. His approach is twist the facts and use his convenient witness aka Darby to vouch for him….again. That folks is very calculated and that is the concern. Are there others and if there are, Winston has proven he wont own up to them. That’s the risk that could bite the team and the league in the rear.

Congratulations on contributed to the ignorance level of this conversation.
#1. Jameis has been accused twice, once for which he has been exonerated in multiple judicial proceedings. And this Uber incident for which their is clearly no concrete evidence, and so far the most damning piece of evidence is hearsay from an ACTUAL convicted R-wordist.
#2. Big Ben Roethlisberger has been accused of Sexual Assault twice and the league and casual fans don’t seem to have a problem with him now do they?
This entire ordeal is being blown way, WAY, out of proportion.

@SchwiftyBuc: I don’t think I’m misunderstanding. Jameis could be COMPLETELY INNOCENT of groping this woman. He could also have been drunk off his a$$ and not acting/thinking right. I think my point is this: people know how they are when they get drunk. It couldn’t have been the first time he got drunk. At some point, if you’ve already had a bunch of issues, you need to take charge of your behavior and make smart choices. You want to drink, but act like a fool when drunk? Stay at home with your closest friends and get plastered there. Want to go out and dance/mingle? Make a choice to not drink or to only have a beer or two. People do stupid crap when they’re young — all of that is true. But people do tend to learn a lesson and cut the nonsense when they have a lot riding on something. That is, unless, they’re accustomed to having the chips fall in their favor all the time — or they’re accustomed to other people cleaning up their messes or making excuses for them.
He needs to act like an adult.

Sexual Assault is forced. The moment he was told to stop he did, therefore it is not assault.

ScwiftyBuc–couldn’t say it better myself!–Well done. Jameis drunken behavior from 2 years ago was weird and immature and not the look the franchise wants.
He has also put out some Tampa Bay great community work too.
I am a woman and I have to say–a crotch grab from drunken patron is not appreciated but it happens and being sensible I would report it to Uber and be irritated but after that I’m moving on and so should all of us. She said stop-he did–failed attempt at a hookup. No more.
There will soon be plenty of pictures of the good Jameis with his new family, Said it before–the Bucs must get him a “keeper”–someone to go with him/drive him/ secure him and be his witness, any time he goes anywhere. It is necessary with a highly paid athlete prone to questionable off field behavior.

Being heavily intoxicated does not change fault whatsoever. You are in fact responsible for your actions even if you’re completely blackout drunk.
Drunk actions are just sober thoughts.
