Paper Champions

June 27th, 2018

Bucs hate losing too.

Joe senses a growing frustration with Bucs fans. And no, this began before the recent news that America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is facing a tentative three-game suspension in the face.

Two players are always out there as visible spokesmen for the team. Both happen to be two of the team’s better players, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and Jameis.

It is partially because both players represent losing, not such much bad play, which is why fans are tired of them. When fans see them, they are reminded of losing.

So many times in recent years it appeared the Bucs were poised to make noise in the NFC South, only for draft talk to heat up around Halloween. It could be worse this year. Draft talk could get going before the end of September.

One national voice believes the Bucs should be prepping for the 2019 draft right now because the season is already over in his mind.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com understands why Bucs fans are tired of what could or should be. They just want wins, damn it. Rosenthal typed that Bucs fans shouldn’t be jumping off the Sunshine Skyway Bridge because Jameis will miss three games and backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, a vagabond quarterback who at times has shown flashes of being competent, has never had a collection of receivers to throw to like he has this season. Therefore, Fitzpatrick shouldn’t struggle to have success and maybe steal a win.

On paper, that shouldn’t be that monumental a task. But this is a franchise that has looked better on paper than in reality for an uncomfortable amount of time.

Joe can hear Bucs fans after reading that last paragraph.
“No s(p)it!”

Joe senses Bucs fans have reached a point of “Show me,” like the state motto of Missouri. They are tired of the hype, tired of the talk. Only wins will satisfy no matter who is at quarterback or how it is done.

Bucs fans are tired of paper champions.

Losing Jamies won’t make too much of a difference in my opinion.

The games will be won and lost in the secondary of this team. These rookies are untested, VH3 is a nutcase, and Grimes is battling the undefeated Father Time.

  2. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Cousin of mine did jump from the skyway a few years ago. Rosenthal your a pu$$y if you don’t jump

  3. onetrickpony Says:

    You got that right….Paper Champions
The kool aid is sour…..if you cant walk the talk, than shut up.
Now the “leader”, our “America’s Quarterback” is a drama queen ?
To borrow a phrase, no excuses anymore, I don’t care what it is.
I just don’t see a season to get excited about coming up, sorry.
I hope they prove me wrong.

  4. firethecannons Says:

Looking to watch defense this year, coach Buck aint gonna let them just give up. VH3 sure has a lot to prove–kid was awful last year for a #11 overall pik . Hoping Spence doesn’t come apart so to speak, cause that kid would/will be great if don’t end up humpy dumpy. Jameis needs to ball out and keep his behavior under firm control. Seen enough press on that guy to last a lifetime. I’m thinking the run game can be/ has to be really special. Ryan Jensen will be fun to watch–dude has to keep up his reputation now It aint all bout watching JW. Go Bucs n Go Noles (going back to watching college ball)

  5. bucky Says:

keep smoking that strong stuff. always said drafting a rapist with the #1 pick in the draft is a crap idea. the season is over……4 wins min, 6 wins max.

  6. Back2bucball Says:

You know why they are definitely paper champs? Because the last few years I have had to breathe in & out of a Friggen paper bag after darn near each game! I have watched Jamie’s fumble away games, and when Jameis almost wins it, I have watched the defence give games away! I have watched the A-train and caddy collide ruining both players, I have watched our supposed franchise qb dress like Friggen Micheal Jackson, and had to listen to that stupid coach say youngry a 1000 times, I had to watch Sargent slaughter tell his troops to bum rush eli when the game was over and I had to watch Brian Friggen Kelly just miss that damn ball thrown by Warner in 99..but I also watched Joe Joe run like hell right after his kid died and I watched us host the trophy so I watch because this is my man soap opera and I watch hoping we host that damn thing again! Go bucs

  7. Trench War Says:

    nicely coined phrase

  8. Garv Says:

Joe nailed it. Show me. Just show me.

  9. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Losing Jameis is everything…In the end he either wants it more or we do. If I’m the one that comes back and tells everyone I wanted it more we all fail. Yes it really does go deeper then you think….

  10. Pete I Says:

“I just don’t see a season to get excited about coming up, sorry.
I hope they prove me wrong.”

    Pretty much sums it up!

  11. Walter Seidel Says:

    “America’s QB” is a dead-fish-rotting joke.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

This TEAM is bigger than one player, sorry I disagree. It will be on the coaches to prepare this team for weeks 1-3.
If we’re going to start making excuses in JUNE for this team to lose we might as well sell the franchise to someone in Europe! LOSERS make excuses for losing!
C’mon Buc fans! Start expecting more. Hold this team accountable. It’s your time and money spent.

One thing about this season: We will know week #1 what this team is made of. Do we overcome adversity, or fold like a cheap cotton T-shirt in the Florida sun?

  13. Bird Says:

Is Jameis way more talented then Fitzpatrick – hell yes , it’s not even close . Way bigger arm . However , Jameis winstons decision making , deep ball, accuracy at times and turnovers have kept him from taking the next step. Yes he put up huge numbers out of gate. But then , teams got more tape as time goes by and his tendencies have been exposed. He doesn’t want to check down or throw a ball a way. Why not ? Why does he need to hit a homerun wvery play?

Whether his shoulder was worse in this or that game , I’m sorry but there wasn’t much of a fall off when Fitzpatrick came in. Jameis played good in 4 games last year out of the 11 or 12 played or whatever number was. Sorry but not good enough for #1 pick

  14. JMan Says:

It’s ok most ppl associate Gerald with losing and Jameis with assault

  15. Wombat Says:

Was watching something on ESPN about Top QB’s yesterday on ESPN. I said to my son, “Could you imagine Aaron Rogers throwing to ME13, Jackson, Godwin, Brate and OJ!!”

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

Joe, and the sheep have been over estimating this team for years!!!!!! And now they are frustrated because they were wrong in their expectations???? I tried to warn the sheep that hard knocks was a key sign to lower expectations last year!!!!!!! And now, every player when asks says it was a distraction!!!!! Just like last year, we will hear say what they are suppose to say, that the distractions don’t matter, that they don’t effect the team!!!!! But that talk is bravado to over come obstacles!!!!!! The Bucs problems are that they have to over come unnecessary, self-inflected obstacles before the season starts!!!!!!! While other teams in the division are “relaxing and preparing” The Bucs are scrambling to overcome the hill they placed in front of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @Joe
When will we get the list of potential GM’s so we can get a head start on the search and he can be hired before seasons end to start evaluating the roster for the major changes next year??????????

  17. Pickgrin Says:

So Rhealist who is constantly making (up) excuses for the coaching staff the last 2 years – now wants to get rid of the GM that brought in a ton of young talent? SMH

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

    @pickgrin

No excuses, I told you the roster was bad!!!! I told you that expectations were lowered when HK was the start of distractions!!!!!!!!

And I don’t want to get rid of the GM, But some will take the fall , so that the owners can sell a “fresh new start” for fans in 2019!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

I always expect the unexpected every season. That keeps me on an even keel, steady as she goes. I refuse to wallow in the possible negatives and instead would rather relish the Bucs positives. The Bucs overall are not as dire as imagined.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    rhealist

coaching is a part of helping your team overcome adversity……you think the saints aint dealing with adversity right now with ingram….pats dealing with brady and gronk…..falcons dealing with JJ contract….panthers dealing with new owners, new DC……

every team in the nfl has to deal with offseason and in-season adversity…..its the coaches job to keep the players focused and prepared…..

stop making excuses for this staff….they have been an disappointment to this team just as much as Winston……

I thin k licht deserves an extension….its the coaches who have screwed him over…..he’s gotten talent but dirk and smitty will force the glazers to clean house……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Ghastly Bucs Says:

Walter Football has the following top 5 QBs for the 2019 draft class as:

    1. Justin Herbert – Oregon (6-6 225)
    2. Jarret Stidham – Auburn (6-3 210)
    3. Drew Lock – Missouri (6-4 225)
    4. Shea Patterson – Michigan (6-2 203)
    5. Will Grier – West Virginia (6-2 214)

  22. gman Says:

If we start over again…after 40 years of being a season ticket holder, I am done. I just can’t justify enabling this horrible organization any longer

  23. Eric Says:

If Winston stays then I will no longer watch Bucs games. If I have to worry about my daughter or wife getting touched inappropriately due to being in YOUR presence then, NO YOU CANT BE OUR QUARTERBACK!
GET OUT OF TOWN SICKO! Go back to your roach infested state of Alabama!

  24. Oneilbucs Says:

Eric no one is worry about you r daughter or wife again this happen 2 years ago if anything really happened. So just leave the fan base no one cares about you leaving or watching. Why do yall say this all the time? You just another more person who never wanted him any way. Next year those quarter backs or trash coming out. If Winston leave this team is done. If I’m Winston I will leave. He needs to go some where he can grow. This fan base sucks y’all don’t know a good player when see one. So buy. I should have waited to pick a team when my oilers left. Cause y’all suck and Tampa as fans a lot of y’all do.
