Joe Hawley Speaks Out On Jameis
June 27th, 2018The man who used to have Jameis Winston’s hands near his crotch on a regular basis has weighed in on the latest troubles for America’s Quarterback.
Former Buccaneers center Joe Hawley (2015-2017) retired after last season, lost weight, sold his stuff and started driving around the country with a rescued dog and an expensive, customized van/RV. “Man, van, dog,” he calls it.
Today, Hawley took time from his adventure– he’s going to Wrigley Field this week — to call WDAE-AM 620.
“Just very disappointed,” Hawley said of first hearing the news that Jameis would be suspended.
“I don’t know all the details. You don’t like to see stuff like that, especially from the quarterback; it’s definitely going to hurt the team. Luckily, they got some good quarterbacks behind him that will step up. But yeah, you don’t want to see stuff like that. It’s just very unfortunate.”
Then Hawley was asked about his off-field dealings with Jameis through three seasons and said Jameis is a stand-up guy who has has screwed up.
“I have no bad things to say about Jameis. He’s a great guy. Seems to me like he’s made a few immature mistakes that he needs to figure out that are unacceptable.
“But I don’t know all the details of the situation, but you never like to see that. Every time I’ve hung out with him, you know, he’s been great. Great guy to hang out with, you know, gives back a lot. You just really don’t like to see this. It’s not a good look on him. It’s not a good look on the team. So, like I said, it’s very unfortunate that it had to happen.”
You could tell in Hawley’s voice that he remains passionate about the Bucs. He said he’ll fly back to Tampa this summer to visit with Ali Marpet and other teammates before the season kicks off.

I wish the suspension would come down if it is gonna come. Wonder why they are dragging it all out for so long ?
I have to wonder if there are going to be any other conditions Jameis will have to do, besides the 3 games.

JW haters came out nowhere like locusts. They even believed the proven rapist story over JW and that’s disappointing. I hope JW gets traded to the Pats. The Bucs are Pat’s farm league anyway.
Americas Qb in a Pat’s jersey. How about that?

“Seems to me like he’s made a few immature mistakes that he needs to figure out that are unacceptable.” Says 95% of males/females ages 18-25

We knew there there could be red flags with Jameis before we drafted, part of taking a talented player with baggage. Like Hawley says though, Jameis seems to be a stand-up guy around the lockerroom/players and on the field. My advice to Jameis is stay away form the Jameison and Gin man… Sometimes boozin with your bros leads to bad decisions and you have too much too lose man, including this season.. If he matures in time he will be an All-Pro QB for years to come, don’t fret Bucs Fans I think he will turn out just fine.

The optimist in me says the suspension is 2 games and they are waiting for the holiday and/or another story to come along and take over the headlines. Janoris Jenkins / Julian Edelman maybe?

Everyone is trying to be politically correct, come on man who’s gonna come out and talk trash about a former teammate .
June 27th, 2018 at 11:03 am
Even if it’s all immaturity, as the fan of their respective organizations, I’d rather see Jameis doing this at his age than see what Favre did at the tail end of his career. Pundits laughed at Favre for the embarrassment of him showing his shlort, but he was old enough to know better and he humiliated his wife. But you rarely see a Packers fan say anything bad about him—except that he went to Minneapolis.

I wondering if the upcoming release of “damning info” by Mark Geragos is making the suspension news by the NFL delayed

@Joe
I heard the interview as well, And shockingly, He said that Hard knocks was a distraction as well last year!!!!!!!

“It’s definitely going to hurt the team”
In America’s QB we trust? What a farce!
June 27th, 2018 at 12:15 pm
One of Jameis’ conditions in any possible plea bargain might be for him to get some counseling. Might do him a world of good and could possibly save his career.
June 27th, 2018 at 12:26 pm
Warren Sapp should be his life coach
June 27th, 2018 at 12:48 pm
rhealist
did you hear the interview from dirk mentioning that during the end of the season exit meeting he instructed players to blame HK and not themselves or the coaches…..
judging by your pattern, Winston will be the distraction and reason why these coaches failed yet again…..
why cant this staff overcome adversity?…..they’ve had since November to form a plan around fitz…..no excuses!!!!!

I’m wondering if most of the details are coming from Banks or his attorney. This guy is doing 15 years and have nothing to loose. It’s already been said that he didn’t know Jameis that well. He could be making stuff up looking for a pay day for his family. It is very common. I hope the NFL are doing the investigation thoroughly and not just listening to a convicted felon with nothing to loose.

Wonder what the real story is with ole Jameis ?
Tampa seems to be turning on him on a lot of levels.
June 27th, 2018 at 1:04 pm
@Elita Vita – I think you would be correct in saying Jameis needs counseling and help. Might save his career. Look at Josh Freeman though, a little too late for him, but hopefully that doesn’t happen to Jameis.
June 27th, 2018 at 1:19 pm
It’s an egregious mistake to compare Jameis Winston to Josh Freeman. Those are apples and oranges. Freeman just floated through the motions, Jameis is passionate about football and winning. Jameis has made some poor decisions but all of his mistakes have been due to immaturity. I am bothered by the sexual assault allegations though. Unfortunately, it is somewhat of a pattern for JW. The problem is the media, who clearly has it out for Jameis, refuses to do any real reporting and research. I mean why let facts stand in the way. None of us, including the NFL, was there that night. How does anyone know that this female uber driver wasn’t leading Jameis on and when he touched her she became uncomfortable. In which case, Jameis immediately stopped. For the rest of us at 23 years old, that would have been a misjudgment. For Jameis it is sexual assault and condemnation by the NFL and it’s sidekicks.

Winston is a train wreck

Crazy how no one was this outraged when Kobe and Big Ben got away with actual rape!

I find it interesting that neither darby or Winston have come out and said banks is a liar…..
the 2 cases aren’t related so him dropping the dime on Winston does nothing for his other case…..seems to me like he’s trying to clear his name regarding this situation with Winston…..

Free Jameis…
He’s already been found guilty until proven innocent…
Unfortunately for Jameis he’ll never get the benefit of the doubt…hopefully he learns from this and chooses better friends to hang out with…Imo Jameis has been a model citizen his entire time in Tampa until this incident…
None of us was there that night, but I honestly don’t want to believe that he was stupid enough to do something like this. Maybe it was someone he was hanging out with that night that got a ride under his Uber account; it’s all speculation at this point but an unfortunate situation for him none the less.
I don’t believe he’ll be released because of this because its all here-say but it will cost him millions. He’ll have to take this team deep into the playoffs or maybe even win a Superbowl to gain any kind of leverage in contract negotiations.

“Jameis has made some poor decisions but all of his mistakes have been due to immaturity”
This is no longer about being immature. That is an excuse…he is a college graduate….and has a history. He also lied to the fans in his statement on this issue. He will never learn anything as he has never been held accountable.
The fact he was hanging with Darby in 2016 tells me everything I need to know. He is not a person who understands what a privilege it is to be an NFL player and he does not learn from the past. Darby was apart of Winstons rape accusations/issue at FSU for those of you who forgot.

Joe Hawley says : Luckily, they got some good quarterbacks behind him that will step up.
Fitzpatrick, Griffin and who else?

Jjuice meant 99% of males, THAT ACT LIKE FEMALES!!! LOL!!!!
get a grip, o.j. 🙂
June 27th, 2018 at 5:52 pm
Maybe banks’ bs claim doesn’t dignify a response..I wouldn’t worry about a convicted rapists words, especially, one whom may very well be worried about added charges, himself..take a breath, haters.
June 27th, 2018 at 5:57 pm
Darby, by ALL ACCOUNTS, was a gd ANGEL during the night in question..Erica kinsman had 7 different versions, from drugged(by 4 different people) banged on head, all debunked in night of question. Donuts takes a proven lying, racist, aunt/prosecuting attorneys word as gospel..stop it, goofball. I’m sure if jameis/Darby had 7 stories, and not 1, you’d believe them…smh @ liars

@Cmurda
Don’t you think that it is even a little too late to be saying it was mutual?
I mean Jameis had a long term girlfriend and is now getting married. Honest hard working face of your franchise types don’t cheat on their significant others.
I’m not saying she didn’t make it up, but saying it was mutual still spins a horrible light on Jameis.
Now I don’t care if it is Jameis, Foles, or the birdman from Philly, but someone decent needs to spread the ball around to the loads of talent we have on this team.
June 27th, 2018 at 6:37 pm
Fair point Reality. Very fair and accurate. Still, being a rapist/sexual abuser and a cheater are worlds apart. I’m not saying he would be an angel for cheating but if it were mutual at least I could understand it if he thought she was feeling the vibe. Her making it up would of course be the greatest outcome. As the days go on and more and more details emerge, even if many are false, it does not look good. No matter what, there is a lot to be disappointed in with Jameis.
June 27th, 2018 at 8:59 pm
Hawley is a great guy. He was a real asset and Koetter gets props for bringing him in. Solid Dude. Miss him

Some times I wonder if race playing a part of the hate for Winston. I know it’s not every body but this is the south. Now I watch the gm for the Panthers and they threw that out quick. I know it was his ex wife saying what he did but it’s seem that was no big deal. Now they going back 2 years for a he say she say. And people acting like this happen last week. It has been 8 months and they still can’t really don’t have nothing. Sounds like they trying to make something stick. I know people are going to say the race card but Winston play a position that blacks are really not welcome to play. That’s why they gets judged harder then white quarter back do. So I kno
June 27th, 2018 at 10:26 pm
So I know that’s why a lot of these fans wants him gone. They say he played bad last year but he was injured and know one never say it . If you take the last game away . He has a single digit ints rate he was trying to get Mike his yards but know one never say it. So I get it . They stood be hind big Ben, n Bret but Winston is a rapist . Let give him a chance we don’t know what really happened. They can’t prove he did anything wrong. Let’s just stand behind him till we get proof. I rather try Griffen then fizpatrick let them fight for it in camp and preseason games this year Griffin was doing good till he got hurt.
