New fans emerge
While America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, now plays the role of NFL villain across the nation — and among many locally — Ryan Fitzpatrick, his veteran understudy, has an exploding fan base.
First, consider Thursday’s JoeBucsFan poll: 56 percent of participants said Fitzpatrick should start ahead of an available Jameis in Week 4 if the Bucs win and Fitzpatrick plays well versus Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football.
Second, Fitzpatrick flat out has people rooting for him to play well in Jameis’ absence and keep the starting QB job indefinitely.
Former longtime Tampa Tribune sports columnist Joe Henderson, who now opines for the Tampa Bay Times and FloridaPolitics.com, writes that he has turned into a hardcore Fitzpatrick fan. He shutters at the thought of Jameis continuing as the face of the Bucs’ franchise.
As a sports columnist, I followed the code of never cheering in the press box, but I’ll break that vow now and say I hope Ryan Fitzpatrick, who will replace Winston during his absence, plays like Tom Bradyfor those three games and keeps the job.
This isn’t about football though. It’s about a troubled man-child with a pattern of assuming he can take whatever he wants, whenever he wants it.

I hope the QB on the field helps win the game, period. However, I also don’t want to be disgusted with the guy and listen to how disgusting he is all week and how disgusting the rest of the world thinks he is. So disgusting. lying, poor leader Winston should be dropped to the bottom of the depth chart and another game experienced needs to come in and fill the #2 position for the first three games, or longer. It’s kind of like, sure, I hope the Syrians squash ISIS, but that doesn’t mean I like the Syrians. In fact, they need to go. Jameis “Syrian” Winston.

The most popular player on a team is the back up QB, when the starter isn’t playing well, or can’t play.
We are loaded with offensive weapons, and Fitz has shown a real propensity for spreading the ball around.

The dilemma for camp is interesting. I’m not so worried about Fitz being the starter for three games or more than I am about who will back him up or compete with him. Bring in a game-experienced QB (which they should do if they are serious about keeping the season going). Reps should be 30-30-25-15% (Fitz, New Guy, Griffin, Winston).
Do same for preseason games 1 and 2, but use only Fitz and New Guy for game 3. Give game 4 to Griffin and flush it down with Winston. Don’t count on that guy for anything in 2018 at all. The Bucs need to think of this as two seasons. Get the QBs prepared depth-wise for Saints, Eagles, and Steelers…if Fitz or New Guy are doing well, they start Game 4 anyway…while Winston returns to practice. His reps during preseason will be wasted…once again, hurting his team.

I personally have not given up on Jameis, but its more likely that Fitz will start Week 4, But unless the team starts out 3-1 or 4-0, I don’t see Winston staying on the banch after the bye week. Fitz is not a long term solution and I have not give up on Jameis yet.

Call me crazy but I think the situations this young man is facing in his life right now, allegation, suspension, and the birth of his firat born will all be extremely humbling experiences for him. While dissappointed in the allegations and how he handled the situation as a person (not a fan) I hope he corrects his actions and behaviors and becomes a genuine leader on and off the field.
There is a solid pattern of uncontrollable behavior which I think stems from a much deeper problem with him. If he is serious about his career and relationships off the field he will take any and all actions to get hia life straight. Think of Brandon Marshall, everyone thought the guy was an asshat, which he acted like. Come to find out he has a mental disorder that went undiagnosed and untreated for the majority of his career.

Perhaps this is how it was suppose to happen for Jameis. The easiest way out for him is to..straighten up and concentrate on ballin and Winning. Ever notice something about Winners? Don’t forget when Fitz went 2-3 he was playing behind a porous OL with the worst Buc’s Defense in memory and no running game. Yet some of you call him garbage; his record last year calls him “A WINNER”. Remember how well he dodged sackers (the opposite of Albatross Glennon who had a mob of Buc’s Fans drooling over him—calling him “The Cannon”—now that was the garbage QB) and reeled off good runs to keep drives alive, and was able to move the Bucs and had no problem scoring in the red zone (unlike Famous Jameis). So get your facts straight before slandering Fitz again! Now Jameis after getting his team fired up had so much adrenalin he overthrew our players and often started slow, but still racked up enough yards to be fifth best in the NFL just last year. If we had just brought in Fitz to score when Jameis got us down to the red zone we would have had a winning season last year and made the playoffs despite our worst defense, no running game, and awful place kicking. With our better OL this year, better running game, much better defensive pass rush this coming season, including better kicking, if Jameis can play as well as he did last year and have some other player cheer up our team to start, Fitz and Jameis together can save their Coaches and GM’s Jobs. That is why the Glazers are sticking with Jameis this year.

Williams did have a bad game for the Bucs v Rams playoff. Let’s not forget though that Williams held many of the stat records for a Super Bowl performance for a long time when he won with Redskins. I also recollect he was not happy with McKay or Culberhouse who screwed him contractually.

Can we save the false equivalencies and comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger.
First off a couple of points about Roethlesberger…he did have two incidents. They were worse than simple crotch grabbing. But it is irrelevant. This was LONG before #metoo and it’s just a different day. Roethlesberger also had NO incidents at Miami of Ohio…he also won a SB.
But people seem to forget. Even back then Big Ben barely made it. For the first year after the brouhaha protestors showed up at stadiums across the country and every fan but Steeler fan called him Ben Rapelisberger. It wasnt the free pass some of you seem to believe.

I expect crickets on this issue for a while. The Glazers are not big on media circus type events. They are the anti-Jerry Jones style of mgmt. The Fourth of July is coming and we have a Tweeting Prez. There will be plenty of distractions.

It’s a pattern only if you go back to FSU and believe none of the investigations surrounding the Kinsman situation which all exonerated Jameis.
I take this as what it is – a guy who got drunk, inappropriately touched a woman and has since apparently decided drinking is a problem if this is the result. All I want to bring to light is there is a whole bunch of sanctimonious snowflake noise on this site. The comments sound like the crap that gets put on cnn or msnbc. A bunch of fake outrage.

This probably won’t get posted much less read, but my opinion counts also…..
I am really sick of hearing about JW losing the locker room or his teammates not trusting him. Sure he screwed up and he will get suspended and all the do gooders will cast dispersions on him, however when the cloud passes what really counts is wins. His 52 teammates will be focused on football, their career, their jobs, their paychecks, winning going to playoffs. they could give a rats ass about who cheerleading in the locker room. These are NFL professional’s and team comes first, not off field disruptions. They have had knucklehead screw ups in their lockerrom since pee wee and as long as they play well and aren’t named Swaggy they could care less. We need to get to training camp and into the season, this will all pass when it counts. Ask Big Ben.

If Jameis can get through this firestorm of negativity, he will be fine and become the franchise quarterback that we all hoped for. I feel like he may come unglued at some point this season and have some sort of tantrum or outburst. Maybe he walks away to play baseball.
