“Soft”

May 14th, 2018

Uses a football four-letter word on Bucs.

In football, there is a foul word that is not included in George Carlin’s Seven Dirty Words.

The word was spoken about the Bucs from non other than Peter Schrager, co-host of “Good Morning Football” seen weekday mornings on NFL Network.

The word won’t cause the FCC to knock on your door. You won’t get ex-communicated by Pope Francis for using it, not even in his presence. But dropping this four-letter word in a locker room very likely will get someone punched.

That word is “soft.”

And Schrager claims in NFL circles, folks snickered behind the backs of the Bucs as being a soft team, which was reflected their record in 2017.

That changed this spring in a span of just a few weeks. Schrager noted that the offseason of wheeling and dealing by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has transformed the Bucs from Snuggle toilet tissue into a brawling team.

“Everyone around the league was like, ‘They are soft,'” Schrager said. “There is nothing worse you can hear as a team than you are soft. Mentally, physically, everything. [In the draft] the Buccaneers got tough.

“On both sides of the line of scrimmage, they are hog mollies, they are mean! They are like a mean team right now. There are no more jokes. No more fun. I don’t think you are going to see any more Batman stuff like last year.”

Co-host Kyle Brandt agreed with Schrager that the Bucs last year had the texture of a newborn kitten. He cited “Hard Knocks,” featuring Ali Marpet playing a ukulele at the beach and Gerald McCoy pleased with himself while strutting in a samurai outfit.

Joe has often referenced the physical alley-beating the Bucs took in Minneapolis last year as the key sign the Bucs weren’t ready to run with the big dogs of the NFL.

You can view the entire segment below, but Schrager’s comments begin at the 6:40 mark. Feel free to let Schrager’s words sink in. Oh, and don’t waste too much time gawking at Kay Adams. It very well could destroy your motivation to work today.

(Hint: Pinstripes work well for her.)

  1. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Lol Schrager also calls McCoy “Nasty” in this video. Opinion discredited.

  2. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

Soft training camp = Soft players for the season.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

NFL teams represent the personality of their Head Coach…

“We are the Tampa Bay Turtles”

    Kobe Faker

  4. Greg Says:

Kay Adams and Suzy Kolber are the type of women who actually know sports and you want to marry. Erin Andrews, Sara CarBONERo, Amanda Pflugrad, Mellanie Collins, Erin Sharoni, Erin Hawksworth all look like girls that are one more espn cutback away from working the pole on Dale Mabry. But I aint complaining.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I think a simple change like Buckner can make a huge difference…..and Licht definitely looked for toughness in the draft and FA.

  6. teacherman777 Says:

    @joe

Props for calling for Lavonte David. You guessed that one.

And props for dropping George Carlins name. George saw the future. America had devolved inti his worst nightmare.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Buckner will do all of the work. And DC Smitty will sit up in the pressbox and take all of the credit. Its the..Buc Way!

  8. DB55 Says:

Everyone around the league was like, ‘They are soft,’”
    ———–
That’s funny cuz when I say it I’m told idk what I’m talking about. Something about nfl professions and experts and pro bowls and what not.

    Hawaii care to charmin in?

Ice cream! And no, nothing will change with McIceCream softy pants on the roster. Sometimes I think the glazers hired mike smith just to match the softness levels of McCoy. They want to keep their boy happy at all cost.

  9. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Soft is right and it goes hand in hand with the so called leader of the team #93 taking plays off letting OL run him down the line then accepting the 11 Ls last year with a smile….need more mike evans and less 93s

  10. I Bleed Pewter and Red Says:

I think the team will feel good about their talent level and should put up a good show this year. I think they will keep the tough games close and will even win their share of them. I’m confident when we play lesser talented teams we won’t stoop and play to their level as the Bucs are historically known to do. No more soft ice cream.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

Wow. What are we missing? What don’t u guys understand? When u build your defense around a soft player like GMC that the results you gonna get.

  12. DB55 Says:

I mean lawd forbid they don’t have McIceCream on the roster.

Without McIceCream the Bucs might finish in last place 9/10 years or worse yet have the worst defense in the nfl. #32.

Avoiding such embarrassment is worth paying McIceCream 13 mil this year alone. 96 mil all together ROTFL

and you guys talk about swaggy being a theif. Geez this FL public education system really is something isn’t it?

  13. M0J0 Says:

It’s all about being physical at the line of scrimmage. We were definitely soft there on Defense, and maybe somewhat to a lesser degree on Offense. Licht has done his job, now it’s up to the coaches and the players to do it right.

  14. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

“Geez this FL public education system really is something isn’t it?”

I’ll say. I’m mean look at you defending an absolute bum in Chris Baker. You see this is where you lose me DB55. If you can honestly sit here and defend Chris Bakers 2017 play, then the answer to your long asked question of wtf do you know, is very little.

  15. DB55 Says:

Let’s examine this if you will. Mike smith “tough anti-soft” speech. But what happened when Mike Evans came to Winston’s defense? Did the coaching staff consider it a “good play” or did Koetter denounce Mike’s actions?

    All talk, the hole lot.

  16. ruggyup Says:

So they say, “hog mollies”. I want to believe and am anxious to see but, all the hype is just that, so for now the subject is a wrap. Real story will be on the field and on the scoreboard, best keep your knickers zippered.

  17. Not there yet Says:

Rookies make too many mistakes to make a team fill of veterans tougher. I want the rookies to succeed but not like I want our veterans additions this off-season too. Rookies may start but the vets WILL start so hope they leading the new identity

  18. Jarhead Says:

Peter Schrager is a low key Stick Carrier/Bucs Fan. He shows the Bucs so much love! He was a big component in all the Buccaneer media hype last year.

  19. bucsnole Says:

My preference would be for this team to ignore everything and put their heads down and get to work.
    Just Win!!!!!!

  20. GhostofSchiano Says:

I want to some “THANOS” type meanness this year or it’s house cleaning time.

  21. GhostofSchiano Says:

    SEE some

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Doesn’t matter what the league said. The Bucs were not soft. A couple players like Baker.

But for the most part, the starters are all dogs. Go ahead…single out the players on this team right now who are soft. You can’t. GMC haters will try, but they are wrong.

The Bucs were not soft. They had 21 of 22 starters injured throughout the season, more than any other team.

And it had nothing to do with training camp. It had to do with the long season without a break. They had no bye week to recover. It had to do with injuries all over the place.

Of course, the haters and trolls and the sheep who follow them will say otherwise, but that doesn’t change the facts.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

DB55, you really can’t use a scripted show for proof. lol.

Joe himself said all through the series how things were set up.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Didn’t Dirk say last year he wanted a badass football team? Actually it’s not a question cause he did.

What a failure. Whatever they are the Yucs I’m used to it.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah right Bonzai. You go back and look at our first games against our division. There’s no way you can call that a tough football team. We were physically manhandled and pushed around all game. Was some of the softest football I have seen, for sure some of the guys who were laughing at us behind our backs came from those games.

  26. DB55 Says:

    Bahhh-lake

Swaggy is the poster child for the Bucs ills. Child please Swaggy is an undrafted free agent who has started on 2 nfl rosters AND has 2 more playoff appearances than your #3 overall 96million dollar ice cream man.

Swaggy has become the scapegoat because under no circumstances will you hold McIceCream accountable for his salary, performance or captaincy.

8+ losing season with McIceCream as captain and it’s always EVERYBODY else’s fault. Who will it be this year Beay Allen? Mitch Unrein? Vita Vea? Yea that’s it or maybe Buckner.

No one else in the country is fooled expect you, clown! It’s so bad there are sports betting sites that have the Bucs favored in just 3 games.

Get out of the bubble Blake and wake tf up!!!!

  27. DB55 Says:

    Bonzai

With all due respect, I’ve read your comments for years and I’m convinced you live in an alternate reality. You live in opposite world. It’s the only explanation I have for the chit that comes out of your brain.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Both can be right…..the team can be soft and GMC not.

This is sort of where I stand…..there is zero evidence that GMC is soft…..you could ask any NFL analyst or any Olineman he’s opposed and get the same answer…..no.

Only the delusional haters who choose to blame GMC for all Buc ills believe that.

At least DB55 has some other points of view that don’t involve GMC…. Tmax (who was he?) on the other hand was truly a one trick pony.

  29. unbelievable Says:

What the hell is a hog mollie? He’s right tho, this team was soft as tissue last year. Now folks like DB will place all of that on one single player while trying to defend saggy the loafer. Unreal.

It was a team problem. All across the board. Hopefully that mentality is gone for 2018 cuz it was straight embarrassing at times.

As for Kay Adams…. me likey. Me likey a lot.

  30. DB55 Says:

8 years in a row fellas, who you going to blame next year?

  31. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @DB55

I need to wake up? If you can genuinely sit here and tell me that you don’t think Chris Baker played like HOT GARBAGE in 2017, then you are truly a hopeless idiot who knows NOTHING about football.

Seriously, if you’re trolling then that’s fine, I don’t care, but If you think that Chris Baker played well or even ok or was anything other than terrible, Then I’m 100 percent that you have a sub 90 IQ and probably watch games on Sunday wearing a foam helmet with drool flowing from mouth.

  32. unbelievable Says:

Alright DB so using your logic Joe Thomas was just a completely worthless, soft left tackle and was the reason the Browns sucked for a decade? Right??

  33. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    …I’m 100 percent *certain*…from *your* mouth.

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can’t we all just get along?

  35. DB55 Says:

    Tbbf and Unb

Do you guys remember gmc presser last year at the beginning of the season when he said that 3 pro bowlers players told him that he was soft? That he knew what he needed to do bc his teammates called him out?

I’ll keep looking for the vid. Kwon has to talk to him, jameis has to talk to him, barber said:

Ronde went on to name Gerald McCoy as a guy who didn’t have the personality to drive a team from his position while stating that Jameis Winston “fits the mold.” So Joe wrote a post about how Barber said McCoy is no badass, which in the real world is exactly what Barber said.

  36. Trench War Says:

The team played a lot of close games last year only to lose them in the waning minutes most the time. To call them soft is not fair considering all the mitigating circumstances, and distractions the team had to contend with last season. HBO, hurricane, no bye, injuries, etc… I believe this year will be different with a focus on being a little more nastier. Maybe those close games will go our way for a change.

  37. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Sapp who kinda knows what it takes to be the man thinks GMC is soft, and 8 years of losing, only time GMC was dominating was when schiano was in his ear and then gmc thought it was too tough and here the bucs sit

  38. DB55 Says:

    Unb

Glad you brought up Joe Thomas. Ty.

Let me ask you, can Joe Thomas stop Cam from scoring the game winning TD with 30 sec left to go in the game? Can Joe Thomas stop Zeke Elliot from rushing for 200+ yards on us to keep us out of the PO? Can Joe Rhomas stop Tyron Taylor or even fckn Brett Hundley from waltzing down the field for a game winning TD, a rushing TD at that right up McCoy’s gap?

CAN JOE THOMAS MAKE ANY PLAY TO WIN A GAME OR SEAL A VICTORY? No, he protects the qb blindside and he’s the best at what he does!

Are you saying that McIceCream is the best DT in the game? JFC

  39. Phil Says:

They were very soft and it started with the training camp Koetter ran. You are what you practice and the Bucs practice soft. And Gerald McCoy is the leader of soft. That’s why fans say to trade him. He is one of the leaders and he’s soft. The new guys coming in follow soft.

  40. Eric Says:

However you wish to describe the reason, they were ineffective.

Very few pro football players are “soft”. Lousy players by comparison to other animals, but not soft.

A normal human being wouldn’t last a single practice let alone a game.

  41. Dapostman Says:

Soft is when you are 2-2, have 10 days off and get off the plane and trail a team 31-0 that will end up with a .500 record before you actually start playing.

  42. Joe Says:

Soft is when you are 2-2, have 10 days off and get off the plane and trail a team 31-0 that will end up with a .500 record before you actually start playing.

Same game where a has-been running back looked like Walter Payton in his prime against them?

  43. D the Bucs fan Says:

Lol that’s the same thing they were saying about Mike Smith’s teams in Atlanta. They had a running joke of Mike Smith addressing it on hard knocks. On all sports talk radio. That’s the Jack Del Rio way according to Koetter. Why would our coach want to be like Del Rio when he hasn’t won a damn thing. That’s something the Joes should ask Koetter.

  44. DB55 Says:

And that same .500 team, the Bucs just said their dline coach is better than jay Hayes who went to the playoffs like 8 yrs in a row with one of the better dline a in the league.

  45. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Yep that RB on first carry right up the gut for 8 then torched bucs left side of the defense all game long

  46. unbelievable Says:

Haha no DB my point is that 1 single player does not control the mentality of an entire team ( possible exception for maybe the quarterback, but even then it’s only the offensive side of the ball). Especially when Kwon has declared himself the leader of the defense. Fault lies everywhere, including the coaches, not just 1 player.

As I’ve said a million times before I wish GMC played angrier cuz he does have mad skills, but that just isn’t who he is. But he’s Still a top-5 DT and I’ll take him until we can replace him with someone better.

  47. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Just watches that Cardinals bucs highlight reel of AP….hargreaves is gawd awful and out of position always and 93 just runs himself out of almost every play

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9kJHUiTjtY

  48. Buc believer Says:

That’s what they call Mr. Batman behind his back…SOFT!!! He makes Pro Bowls to give the illusion he is a good player just so the Bucs will keep him around and let everyone throw him around like the little BEACH he is. And before any of you go saying “say that to his face” we tried last year while he was hiding in one Buc Palace and wouldn’t come out…. coward.

  49. DB55 Says:

    Unb

I disagree. When your “best player” don’t give a chit about winning and gets head coaches fired bc they’re too tough then yes the rest of the team follows suit. Especially when it’s you’re “star” player.

  50. DB55 Says:

    Dusty

What’s really sad is that 95% of those plays were designed to run right at McIceCream and while be didn’t make not one play I see Swaggy in at least two tackles but he’s the bum. Okay!

Second thought, why are OCs running the ball right at McIceCream I thought they stay up all night game planning for him? Here’s the game plan we’re going to run at McIceCream, easy win.

  51. DB55 Says:

    Bonzai

This for your from your favorite guy. Starts with a T and ends with a max. Lol.

she has no excuses nuthuggers…. bonzi you are the single most delusional human being online today. thanks for the outlandish ASSumptions you are truly a fool.

  52. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Dusthty Rhothdes-
The linebackers in that Cardinal game all sucked- Kwon was out with injury-
you can put it on Hargreaves, but I saw Grimes get juked and Conte get pushed like a tackle dummy…

  53. Bobby M. Says:

Its been well documented by this site and other buc outlets…..McCoy is a great player but his personality doesn’t motivate or lead others. You have to have guys with an edge that will fight their own teammates…..Hardy Nickerson was that way….Sapp was that way…..I believe Alexander is that way. Defense is a mentality that requires a dog fight for every inch…..Nobody was worried with McCoy being upset last year and it was obvious. We literally gave away yds/1st downs/games from mental laziness/penalties.

  54. DB55 Says:

All the McIceCream apologists disappeared? I guess they couldn’t explain away the video or blame lazy Swaggy. What a shame! But pro-bowls though, yea pro-bowls.

  55. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Def not putting game on hargreaves because his #1 job is to defend the pass and he is abysmal at that but every now and again at least make a tackle, esp on 3rd and 2…..he also got conte drilled without filling and alerting conte to getting cracked

  56. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

I decided it was no longer worth my time to argue with a person who has clearly shown time and time again that they know about as a much as a toddler when it comes to evaluating football.

  57. unbelievable Says:

Nope, I watched that clip actually.

1st play- McCoy whiffs. Badly. Inexcusable. Then I watched Swaggy, Ayers, Conte, and 2 of our LBs get b!tched up and pushed around by the Cardinals with ease. Everyone sucked.

2nd play- McCoy is double teamed while Swaggy, Ayers, LVD and our other linebackers are getting thrown around like ragdolls by a single blocker on each of them, OR they are just standing there watching the play go by them.

3rd play- McCoy pushed out of the way. Gholston pushed out of the way. Other d-lineman not even visible. Conte, VH3 and another DB completely whiff on tackles or again get pushed out of the way.

4th play- McCoy doubled, every other lineman swallowed up by blockers too. All 7 linebackers and DBs just stand and watch as AP runs through a gaping hole in the middle. Conte is literally running the wrong way with his back turned to AP.

5th play- this time Swaggy is actually doubled, McCoy has 1on1, but they both end up on top of each other in a pile while multiple LBs try to make arm tackles and miss.

6th play- McCoy doubled, no one on the edge has even the slightest amount contain, D-lineman are just straight MIA. VH3 whiffs on yet another tackle.

7th and 8th plays- no pressure from any of our D-line. LBs and DBs are simply incapable of making a tackle.

Should I keep going? The whole defense was garbage and soft. It ain’t just 1 guy.

  58. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Unbelievable

Don’t even try dude, you’re just wasting your time. It literally doesn’t matter how right you are, these delusional haters who are more than likely secretly in love with McCoy will never relinquish their ill founded obsession.

  59. Edster Says:

The Buccs have been soft ever since McCoy arrived. Sure he has skill but his nice gentlemanly on the field attitude has no business in football! His attitude spreads to all new comers. John Lynch was the nicest guy off the field but was a beast on it! That’s what we need in Tampa!!! Tampa will not turn a page until McCoy and his cosplay silliness are gone!!! Loosing is one thing, being manhandled and being the laughing stock of the league is another!!

  60. Edster Says:

Defensive linemen have come and gone and the one constant has been McCoy. He may get pro-bowls but the Bucs with McCoy are losers!!

  61. DB55 Says:

Ok so you admit he’s soft. That is all. I knew you weren’t a tool unb. Now is there hope for the rest of them?

Hey did you see the TD were AP ran threw McIceCream gap and McIceCream had his back turned to the LOS? What part of football is that? 1 v 1 too. Darn shame really but pro-bowls and what not.

  62. Edster Says:

Who cares if they are soft, the important thing is they dress snazzy all GQ’ed out for their road game trips!! I’d much rather we have a bunch of 9-5 blue collar tough guys than these bunch of pre-Madona losers! I guess smoking all that dope doesn’t help their play either

  63. SKBucsFan Says:

    Yaaay! We won the Off-Season…again.

  64. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @DB55

You know, if I thought it would make any difference, I’d tell you to go back to that clip. Skip to the 0:41 second mark, change the play speed of the video to 0.25, and rewatch that clip you referenced, only this time keep your eyes open.

    1. McCoy is in fact double teamed on the play.
    2. He tries, stupidly I’ll admit, to spin out of his blocks, which results in his back being turned.
    3. Notice that Kendell Beckwith reads AD wrong and fits the wrong gap.
    4. Notice that Chris Conte over runs his target, and gets blocked out of the play.
    5. Notice that Justin Evans takes a terrible angle to the ball, ends up in horrible position to pursue the play and collides with Chris Conte,
    6. Notice that Vernon Hargreaves would be in perfect position to stop the run but stops moving his feet, and then whiffs big time on a tackle.

Funny how you know so much but failed to see any of that.

  65. Dano2200 Says:

Remember why Smitty got fired from Atlanta, they were also accused of being soft. Leopard’s spots don’t change gentlemen. Even with the new talent, he will call soft zone coverages that we still get torched.

  66. Rod Munch Says:

As others have said Mike Smith’s teams in Atlanta were always soft, and I think Dirk makes them even more soft. Look at how Dirk got punked by Sean Payton to end the year and what did Dirk do, he just said best wishes and I hope they do well in the playoffs. What do you expect from a team when a coach won’t stand up for himself?

  67. Bucnjim Says:

If your argument is well he wasn’t the only one bad you have missed the point! He is our top paid supposedly top performer and captain of this D for years. As fans we count on him being good even WHEN everyone else is failing. I have watched enough games to know his style struggles against physical play! It is not hate when you expect your best player to perform regardless of how well the rest of the team plays.

  68. Bucnjim Says:

If current and former NFL players say there is some truth to that McCoy being soft statement then you have to consider the fact it is more than likely true.

  69. Rod Munch Says:

Another McCoy hating dummy… LOL! Hey dummy, 6x pro bowler, 3x all pro, that’s what other players think of him.

  70. Bucnjim Says:

Yep when someone disagrees with your point of view resort to name calling….love how people act these days! By the way HIS own words last year HE admitted this is something he needs to wok on. By the way I have been here since the very beginning of this site so no I am not new!

  71. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Rod MunchNutts

Your argument would be valid if the object of NFL Football was to collect meaningless pro bowls that being said the last time I checked the object of the game is victories which your failed super hero is a 100% failure at. Chokes / disappears when his team needs him most. a complete and total failure as captain. Go ahead and keep pounding meaningless pro bowls and the fact his peers love beating him weekly. you are just proving the point of the so called realists that actually see things clearly.

No team will ever win with a soft fraud wearing the C.

  72. Rod Munch Says:

    Triggered.

I forgot, millennials think words hurt.

    LOL!

  73. Rod Munch Says:

Reality – Yeah Pro-Bowl and All-Pro awards are meaningless because some dummy online says smiling makes you weak. LOL!

Anywho do me a favor and stuff your head into a blender, it’s not like you’re using it for anything in any case.

  74. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    MunchNutts

I actually feel sorry for you sir never having any signature games or big plays to defend your points just meaningless personal awards and name calling. If your super hero was truly great after 9 years you’d think you’d have ample legit ammunition to defend the career loser and worst team captain in history. Results prove last points sir. You can’t rewrite history

  75. Bob in Valrico Says:

Sapp still sticks up up for Mcoy. That’s all the peer review I need. Its still a team game and Licht missed badly on Baker who should be getting accollades for being
    soft as a Pillsbury doughboy.

  76. Edster Says:

    Hey MUNCH ON MY NUTTS

Even Sapp told McCoy his nice picking-up the QB after he knocks him down crap needs to stop! Defensive players driving fear into opposing offenses whether it’s a QB rushing a through because he is scared to get pummeled in the ground by a Defensive lineman or a receiver dropping a pass because he is scared Lynch or Ronnie Lott is about to knock him to Tuesday, instilling fear WORKS! McMuffin doesn’t instill fear in NO ONE with his nice guy, goofy cosplay dressing bullcrap!!!!

  77. BoJim Says:

Betcha Kay Adams is soft too.

  78. Joe Says:

Betcha Kay Adams is soft too.

Well played sir. Well played! 🙂

  79. Duke Says:

    Bojim,

Report to sensitivity and gender equality training immediately.
