Rookies & Veterans Mix It Up

May 16th, 2018

Spring practices, aka OTAs, rolled on this week with a new twist.

Rookies meet and practice with veterans.

It’s closed to media. Dirk Koetter is keeping things quiet, but the official Buccaneers photographer pumped out photos on various team platforms.

Above you can see rookie running back Ronald Jones get after it in a receiving drill.

As for the various practice photos of the past couple of weeks or so, Joe has seen no sign of DeSean Jackson and Jason Pierre-Paul.

The Bucs are back on the field today, and Joe will be out at One Buc Palace for a special media session with defensive assistant coaches.

Yay I’m so happy before you know it bucs are gonna be playing preseason

  2. Baz Says:

And RoJo’s wearing his new number 27, per his announcement yesterday of changing it from 22.

  3. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Where are the fans bashing jpp for not attending or is that only reserved for players the choirboy police deem thugs.

  4. Bradinator Says:

I’ll take any news during this time of the year. Trying to drum up enthusiasm for NHL is not going so well for me. The real training camp can’t start soon enough for me!!

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Any Myron Lewis sightings?

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m going to predict that all of our 2018 draft picks make the team…..this crop has a different feel to it. Each player has a somewhat unique history and skill set.

  7. Steve in Mad Beach Says:

    I like the 27.

No need to besmirch his good name with the foul stench of limp D Martin!

  8. LocalJoker Says:

I thought OTAs began on May 22nd.

  9. 813bucboi Says:

would be nice to have the entire team there….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  10. William Walls Says:

I get that these workouts are voluntary for veterans (and also that there are lots of legitimate reasons for veterans to miss voluntary workouts). But that being said, if it were me, I’d find a way to be at every practice, and I’d be in the building every possible minute trying to make myself a better, more prepared player. The new veterans (JPP, Unrein, Curry, etc.) very likely could miss time related to relocating to Tampa Bay or commuting. But in my ignorant outsider’s opinion, veterans that have been here for at least a year show their level of commitment when they don’t show up to practice (looking at you, DJax).

  11. Trench War Says:

    William Walls

    exactly …good comment

I think the veteran leadership should be here for the huge number of new rookies onboard to learn the NFL work ethic and to quickly build a more cohesive unit in the short amount of time they have to do so. Well said. *golf clap*

  12. BigHogHaynes Says:

You talking about practice…Stop looking at me cause it’s just practice!! But I’ll be there soon!! Sign DJax!!

  13. RustyRhinos Says:

So if we have another year of DJax and Winston not on the same page can we all agree it might have to do with not being at OTA’s? Is this not the time that players learn each other’s traits? So if a player is missing most of the OTA sessions this could cause some in game missing of open plays.

  14. Owlykat Says:

Lets just trade DJax for an excellent experienced Guard and save the fortune we pay for DJax. No wonder he had so few yards last year and Godwin can out perform him anyway. You can see that Watson and Shepard (resign him now) can supply sufficient backups in case of injury. DJax gets the Swaggy Efort Award. Let the Prima Dona Complainer be someone else’s problem! Start saving for all the salary upgrades needed next year.

  15. ARGH_M8E Says:

Lmao, glad I wasn’t the only one… That jersey number switch from 22 to 27 makes me very happy… His previous number 22 made me angry just looking at it! Fresh start, moving on.

  16. uckinator Says:

owlykat – Agree with you 100 %. I was thinking the other day the same thing. We sure could use a very good interior offensive “Big Ugly” lineman over one premadonna wide receiver that won’t come back to catch (defend) an underthown pass !

  17. Stanglassman Says:

Quite a contrast between Watson missing his Penn graduation to be at the OTAs and Djax not showing up again.

  18. Lucious Selmon Says:

“DJax gets the Swaggy Efort Award.”
    Nailed it, Owl!

    Good point, Stan.

  19. Oneilbucs Says:

5 n 11 you don’t show up to practice . This team have no will to win. This team will lose again this year. No leadership then when Winston try to people have bad things to say about so just accept another losing season.

  20. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

bashing djax over perception he is a thug which hardly is reality yet giving the dumbarse mental midget who blew half his hand off a free pass for not being at ota. Typical choirboy police hypocrisy must be good Christians

Both jpp and gmc will play less than 8 games this year and it will be Jameis and djax fault.

  21. unbelievable Says:

    ^ Oh hi tmax.

Nice to you see you’ve made your way back here.

  22. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Its not tmax

Is one statement above inaccurate???? No… not one single comment calling out jpp yet nonstop djax bashing for same exact issue. Classic hypocrisy

  23. unbelievable Says:

If it walks like a tmax, and talks like a tmax…

I went them both at OTAs, but I haven’t bashed either of them for not showing up. Yet.

  24. unbelievable Says:

And yes I would bet that gmc and JPP will play more than 8 games this year.

  25. Oneilbucs Says:

Reality I was talking about the whole team if you was talking about me .
