“Going To Really Stink For Us In Training Camp”
May 3rd, 2018The Buccaneers’ offense has yet to practice against Jason Pierre-Paul, however, they already seem to know what’s coming.
Joe asked Donovan Smith and O.J. Howard about playing against JPP today and for a scouting report.
Smith didn’t want to go there. Howard talked about how stopping JPP and Giants Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins were main focuses of the Bucs’ game plan before playing the Giants last season.
Joe would share their quotes, but Joe instead will go to what Cameron Brate said about JPP on the Ira Kaufman Podcast. He certainly said it best.
“We were going through introductions of the new players and [JPP] raised his arm up and I was just like, ‘Oh my gosh. This is going to be horrible blocking him.’ Because his arm just kept going higher and higher,” Brate said.
“He’s a freak, man. Super long. Very strong at the point of attack, just relentless motor, just really, really physically gifted. And those guys, you’re going to have to put a tight end to chip him, help out the tackle. You know, you’re going to have to double team him in the run game. Getting a guy like that is really huge for our defense, but it’s going to really stink for us in training camp.”
Great stuff. And Joe can’t wait to see how the Bucs’ trenches hammer away in camp with five new hungry bodies along the defensive line, plus nasty-reputation center Ryan Jensen in the mix on offense with a rookie, Alex Cappa, known as a “bouncer.”
Joe is certain it won’t resemble the Chris “Swaggy” Baker spa days and the let’s-take-it-easy-on-each-other camp dance between Michael “Ghost” Johnson and Anthony Collins in 2014.

Licht needs to cut sweezy. He’s overpaid and can’t stay healthy. Donovan Smith has been the most durable but he really needs to be more consistent. There are plays when he’s holding his own against some of the best pass rushers and plays where he gets blown by almost as soon as the ball snaps. Dirk doesn’t do anybody any favors with those long a$$ developing plays.

You’ll all know about this team 3 weeks into the season. Actually, the NFL did us a favor scheduling 3 tough teams. If this is a seminal year, blowing up these squads will leapfrog us into the playoffs !

The only reason he should cut Sweezy is if they need the cap space. Otherwise, it hurts nothing keeping him around. You never know, with the other improvements, he could make a difference now.
It’s not our money. If they need the cash, they’ll cut him. If not, who cares?

@Cam Brate … “Getting a guy like that is really huge for our defense, but it’s going to really stink for us in training camp.” Au contraire Cam. Going against primo players like JPP is exactly what this Bucs’ offense needs. Jameis has said before “Iron sharpens iron”. Well, meet iron.

Somebody here says Cut Sweezy? Come on..Sweez is my man. He’ll be right there in practice standing by Daddy Lict with his floppy hat, Smilin and collecting that phat check. I luv Sweez. He gets his money for nothin and his chicks for free!!

Yes – they need the cap room Bonzai.
Sweezy is gone as soon as he clears a medical OK. He better be at least…
I remember hearing that JR’s latest contract redo had medical language in the Bucs favor included – but don’t know what the details are. Perhaps those only applied specifically to further issues with his pre-existing back condition – or maybe they were more general. Not sure… But there’s a chance that contract language could help the Bucs in (should I say OUT of) this situation.

I’m predicting at least 4 training camp fights this year Joe! When you have Jensen, cappa, Sweezy, JPP,and Curry those are guys that are starving to knock someone’s head off!

Both of our lines will do nothing but improve and get better by facing off against each other on a daily basis. Training camp is going to be brutal this year, in a good way, if DK allows it. I’m praying he doesn’t do another soft ass camp like last season.

The Gators won two National Championships under Urban Myer and had the toughest training camp in college football. Now that we have an inside practice field, Dirk needs to have his players going at it in full pads as often as they legally can. That is what toughens up your players for the rigors of the season and helps your players be in shape so they can avoid injuries better. Nobody should be allowed to miss practices unless they are injured. No more Swaggies!!! As to turnstyle Smith just tell him if he doesn’t consistently pass block like he should or if he gets holding penalties he will be permanently switched with Cappa and will not be getting a fat LT contract. A long term contract for an elite Guard is not as much as a LT. He holds the keys to his own future.

He’ll destroy whoever is playing R.T. on our team, injured Dotson included. Hope Cappa pans out, we may need him sooner rather then later.

See Smith can’t even block hypothetically….he needs to go
