Would You Pull The Trigger?

April 17th, 2018

Plays Jason Licht.

As most regular readers know, Joe isn’t an NFL mock draft guy.

Joe pays attention to just one mock draft and it’s Mike Mayock’s lone mock draft that comes out a day or two before the draft.

Mock drafts, to Joe, have morphed into nothing more than a parlor game. Like an NFL version of “Axis and Allies.” Dudes throwing darts at a wall. Waste of Joe’s time, and Joe understands this is a very unpopular take.

However, what about a trade? Yesterday on “Good Morning Football,” enjoyed weekdays mornings on NFL Network, there was some role playing going on.

Nate Burleson and Kyle Brandt played the parts of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and Bucs director of player personnel John Spytek. The Bucs are on the clock when “Licht” and “Spytek” debate taking Denzel Ward, Vita Vea or Derwin James. Then “Kevin Colbert” of the Steelers calls to offer a trade.

Would you make the trade offered in the video below? With the Steelers’ first-round pick, the Bucs could still get a quality running back.

  1. Dave Says:

    Hell no.
    To far a drop

Make the 28th pick, Hayden, and Pitts 2nd round pick

  2. Maddognavy Says:

I love Joe Haden but his days are numbered. I saw absolutely not and welcome to the Buccaneers Mr Vea

  3. Bucsfan951 Says:

Haden and their second and third rd picks… maybe. <— That’s putting a second round value on Haden (is he worth that?)

  4. Architek Says:

No – send to voicemail LOL

  5. Joe Says:

No – send to voicemail LOL

    LOL!

  6. lambchop Says:

No. We don’t need another aged CB. Grimes is probably done after this season. I would rather pickup Joe Haden if he’s cut.

Um, it’s irrelevant as the trade is insanely unrealistic … that first “call” with the Cardinals offering David Johnson and the #15 for the #7 is much more realistic and something the Bucs may accept … but Martavis, Haden and #28 … silly.

I guess I’d say the ONLY way Tampa does that is if (a) Saquon’s the only one of the big 3 available and the Bucs don’t think there’s a massive difference between he and Guice and Michel, and (b) they have a trade lined up for Desean Jackson, and (c) they’re higher on Joe Haden than just about anyone else.

If all three of the above is true, sure, the Bucs might do it, as they’d be getting Martavis + Guice + Haden + whatever DJax brings for ONLY Saquon …

  8. morgan1672 Says:

A WR we don’t need that has had a ton of off the field issues and 29 year old corner that’s always hurt. You get either player for 4th rounder, so who would trade from 7 to 28 for 2 additional 4th rounders. This a really stupid trade

  9. SOEbuc Says:

No. Trade back where we can get Vea. If he’s gone, hopefully Davenport will still be on the board. Will Hernandez hopefully on the board at 38. RB with other second or third round pick we get. CB in the third if we got a pick. S in the fourth. OT in the fifth. DE/DT with the first sixth, CB with the second, RB in the seventh (Quinton Flowers???)

  10. Fire the Glazers Says:

Vita Vea is WAAAAYYYY more suited for a 3-4 defense.
All you McCoy haters just want a reason to jettison the best DT we’ve had since Sapp…. because he’s not Sapp.
Anyways, you’re kidding yourself if the Bucs take Vea that high without changing their entire defensive philosophy next year.
Mike smith has never ran a 3-4.
Don’t expect it to happen this year simply because he’s coaching for his job.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Serious question. Do people actually watch this, as in does it have any viewers or is it on the air because of the money the NFL gets from cable companies and they just have to put something on TV? I’m not really sure who the market for this program is, it’s a wacky Q-zoo morning program that normally appeal to women but it’s about football.

Or, in an attempt to be fair, is this just a particularly cheesy lame bit and the show isn’t normally like this?

Anywho if you watch this each morning, laugh uproariously at this antics and this is what gets you through the day, please let me know so I can make fun of you.

    God bless.

  12. Tnew Says:

    Speaking of draft fatigue.

  13. BucTrooper Says:

THEres an article on ESPN suggesting swapping 1st rounders w/ ARI at 15 for David Johnson.

  14. hoover923 Says:

Would not take that trade. We don’t need another WR, and we don’t need a CB that can’t stay healthy. To drop to 28th, I want at least Pittsburgh’s 2nd and 3rd rounder in exchange. This is a totally made up trade anyway, so it’s not really worth addressing.

  15. Joe Says:

    Rod:

“Good Morning Football” is very popular and the most successful show in NFL Network history.

  16. hoover923 Says:

GMFB is all about Kay Adams.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Joe – Wow, really? That’s amazing, it’s some real cornball $@#@. Not knocking you for posting it, it’s Bucs related. I knew the show existed but never seen a non-interview clip before I guess, or if I did I blocked it out of my memory.

Anyways I’m man enough to say it, this triggered me, made me mad and at the same time sad for our future.

  18. NFLNut Says:

    *******************

^ Rod, it IS a cornball show, but Joe’s right, it’s very popular.

For me, there isn’t a great sports show out there … Cowherd, 1st Take, Undisputed, etc., are all “okay” and I guess I like Cowherd the best simply because he doesn’t seem to just run with the same narrative as everyone else and at least tries to think outside the box, but … it’s slim pickings.

However, I will say that Joy Taylor should be the host of every sports show on earth and that I’d like to see Will Cain get a lot more face time on ESPN … personally I think he should replace Stephen A Smith on 1st Take and have his gloves taken off by the network as he and Max Kellerman could have some great and heated debates when Max goes full Libtard, which he often does.

  19. Westernbuc Says:

Awful trade. We tried adding a wide receiver last year and it didn’t fix anything. Let alone a head case that demands the ball. One thing I love about the Bucs wrs is that they aren’t divas. We don’t need to mess with that.

Now, a trade with AZ for David Johnson, their first, and maybe a third or 4th rounder would make perfect sense.

In the scenario they put out, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson are all available. Bucs could have a bidding war between Cardinals, Dolphins, Bills, Ravens, and any other QB needy team.

Remember, last year the Chiefs gave up a haul to move to the top of the draft to get Mahomes, while Alex Smith was still the starter. If the scenario they made come about, Bucs could get a real loot out of a desperate team

  20. Not there yet Says:

That draft advice is clearly worse than the Joe’s advice. They had to be on Cleveland’s payroll at some point. K adams is the smartest one apparently

  21. Jason Says:

I like the show but for a trade like this I stopped listening after the players were mentioned. A swap of first rounds and a corner that only played one full season his entire career. Then a wide receiver who could be suspended for a whole season when he fails a drug test. PASS!

  22. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Pass

  23. Pickgrin Says:

Pretty unrealistic slating Harold Landry to Indy at #6 I’d say.

With only 2 QBs off the board in that scenario – our 7th pick becomes valuable as hell. That offer was a joke. Licht would be like – “forget the WR – we’ll take Haden plus your 1st, 2nd and 3rd rd picks. Also next year’s 2nd and 4th rd picks. You have 3 seconds to say yes before I hang up and answer one of the other 3 phones that are ringing…”

  24. KEVIN Says:

These guys are complete morons and should be fired for their lack of research before their shows. Last year it cost the chiefs 27 overall, a 2017 3rd and a 2018 1st to move up to 10 for a so-so prospect like Mahomes. That means that in their scenario if 2/4 top qbs are left on board (both of which are better as prospects out of school than Mahomes) that multiple teams will be offering any and everything for their guy. I think that means minimum two 1sts and a 2nd and likely even more than that. Why the crap would we want a guy (Haden) we could have last year when Cleveland didn’t want him and basically gave him away and a frequently suspended wr who was on block all last year and nobody in NFL made a decent offer for Martavis. NFLN should be embarrassed for having people this incompetent on their broadcast. If you want a far fetched offer from Pitt at least include some pluasibale (and valuable) player like Leveon (contract standoff). I feel like the money Billy Madison when he says “we are all know dumber for having listened to it”. If even 1 of these QBs is left, I see buffalo offering 12, 21, and one of their 2 thirds for it and if desperate for their top qb choice we could probably squeeze more out of them. Staying at 7 is the wrong choice no matter who is there. See Jameis Investigation or Reuben Foster investigation. Picks can miss…no matter who they are. If we can turn 7 (Nelson) into 12(Davenport), 21(Hughes) and that 3rd rounder (Royce Freeman)… it is more likely than not we will not regret that trade as a lot of players miss. Also, like I’ve been saying since March 15, scoop CJ Anderson cheap and let him, Peyton, and the rookie battle it out for the starting nod.

  25. SoFloBuc Says:

    NOPE!!

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I agree…..only 2 QBs taken……our phone should be ringing off the hook…..Buffalo, Arizona would certainly be calling.

  27. I Bleed Pewter and Red Says:

If there are only 2 QBs taken by the time it’s our pick and we can’t find a trade partner then force a team to want to deal by selecting the best QB on the board and watch how many calls they get after that.

  28. K_Bassuka Says:

That morning crew comes up with the most ridiculous trades, it’s like they never follow the NFL let alone work for it.

  29. Waterboy Says:

not for s 15 mil per yr contract for a RB.

  30. Radman Says:

I like the selection of the best available QB to force a needy team’s hand.

  31. Tnew Says:

Obviously it was a perfect topic. How much discussion would there be if they just slated Derwin James to the Bucs?

  32. Wausa Says:

If we were trading with Pittsburgh. I would want the Bucs to get their 1st, 2nd and 3rd this year, 1st and 2nd next year and 3rd in 2020.

  33. 813bucboi Says:

    politely decline……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  34. Buccernutter Says:

What in the hell are you guys whining about? Don’t watch the show then lol.

It’s not meant to be taken seriously. There are plenty of other options if that’s the route you want to go. I think it’s entertaining and many people agree.

People should be fired for not doing their due diligence? What is wrong with this fan base!?!? Some of you are condescending and it’s hypocritical.

  35. Pryda ...sec147 Says:

Lol hell no haden who … Bryant please heard of Godwin or hump and Jackson cmon gtfo trade us 28th and Leveon Bell you got a deal

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m with you Joe. Sick of it all. Lets just draft and play ball. Nobody’s comment here are gonna make a hill of a beans difference. The Bucs draft war room already has its picks and options lined up.

  37. Horse Liver Says:

I don’t know what the trade is but I would welcome a trade down instead of using the 7th pick on one of those guys.

I watch it in the morning while I’m getting ready for work. Please don’t knock it. It is very informative, if you want JUST football news in the morning and don’t care about hearing about all the other sports. Every segment is not like what was above…. but I guess you’re never allowed to have fun at work.

  39. celly Says:

I watched this live and thought, “the only way i make that trade is if they at LEAST throw in a 1st next year as well”

Agreed that the Cardinals trade made more sense and one i wouldn’t be opposed to.. although, i would also try to get them to cough up their 3rd, even if it means us giving up one of our 6ths.

  40. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Why would any GM approach us with any WR in a package?

For heaven’s sake we have a logjam already…Godwin should get to play more reps…Rudy just signed a 3 million dollar deal…ME13 and DJAX…and that doesn’t address all the targets…OJ…Brate…and if we get an RB with hands…

We do not need anymore weapons for Jameis except at RB and OL.

    WR?

  41. Joe Says:

What in the hell are you guys whining about? Don’t watch the show then lol.

Joe thought Ira was the only guy who didn’t like Kay Adams and her crew.

Ira is still miffed that the NFL Network didn’t preempt its highest-rated show for a standard Chucky press conference from Indianapolis filled with lies and broad, sweeping generalizations.

  42. Joe Says:

It’s not meant to be taken seriously.

Joe thinks their TMZ rip offs where, for example, they ambush Jerome Bettis on the sidewalk about the drama-filled Steelers and at the end, the unseen interviewer hollers, “Big fan Jerry!” are priceless! LOL 🙂

  43. Eeklektik Says:

Hell no. We’re fine at WR and Joe Haden not what he used to be. Big drop from 7 to 28.

  44. Marquistador Says:

Nope! The one is too immature and one is too old. We already have a corner that has a foot out the door of the league and is an injury concern. We don’t need two. Also, a WR? Not a position of need and Bryant is hot garbage. You gotta come stronger than that to move up from 28 to 7.

  45. Buccernutter Says:

    Joe

Give me young, attractive, female, original perspective over old, male smokescreens and vague responses all day. Ira just might be losing his drive lol.

Too many of the same, monotone football reporters nowadays. I love the fresh delivery and opinions. Not sure why anyone has a problem with the show, especially the skit u mentioned lol
