Jason Licht is one happy man.
The Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager did some wheeling and dealing tonight. Not only did he rake in three draft picks, the No. 12th overall and two second-round picks from Buffalo, but he got the man he had targeted all along.
Washington defensive tackle Vita Vea.
Licht said that he was going to select Vea at No. 7 overall, but had previous preliminary discussions with Buffalo earlier in the draft process. When Thursday night rolled around, those talks intensified and pretty soon Buffalo offered Licht an offer he couldn’t refuse.
And he still got Vea.
“You can never have enough ass kickers,” Licht said, beaming with pride.
Licht said Vea could play three different positions on the defensive line and that Washington at times had him rushing the passer from a standing position.
Licht also noted that Bucs coach Dirk Koetter and Washington coach Chris Peterson are very close friends and that Koetter got intel from Peterson that only sealed the deal to get Vea. Koetter was slightly close-lipped about what he learned.
“You would want your daughter to marry him,” Koetter said is something he got from his chats with Peterson.

Would have been okay with Derwin here too, but wow. Great haul on the trade back and we would probably have drafted Vea at 7 anyways.

Now I see I wasted so much time the last two months reading mock drafts. Our defensive line went from a joke to being maybe one of the better in league.

Man Jason Licht should be fired after tonight. He had way too many beers man. No way you did all that trading just to draft V.Vea. Why get B. Allen this offseason and we got McCoy. We could’ve used the second round on a DT. Man we could’ve got an offensive lineman for peeps sake. Man we are gonna be 2-14 this year for damn sure. I hate we gotta watch this man draft three times tommorow straight losers from small school ass backgrounds. BUCS LOST GUYS

He can be the ultimate defensive “floater”. He can play safety, linebacker, and even a bit of edge rusher.

Im all about drafting Shaquim Griffin. Dude can play and is GREAT locker room presence. And when you see him playing that hard and making those kind of plays, you can look at the other guys and say, look at him….get it together and play with that kind of heart!!

I shocked that none of you know ANYTHING about football. This was the PERFECT pick!!!! Ask yourself 1 question….IF McCoy was to get hurt who would replace him in the lineup??? If this front office made this pick just to disappoint a collegiate fan base which it sure feels like too then you guys are immature and clearly don’t care to win but just blame and complain in every article from all the sites. Im not selling shirts… geez. have a good laugh. but seriously, a GM should be celebrated for the premium picks that sell tickets and generate excitement, not the after the second round picks that work out.. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. anyone care for a list of his selections? and lets not even include the kicker in the second round. Best premium pick he ever made was Jameis.. which was a no brainer. The bucs foundation were guys like warren sapp and derrick brooks and oh YEAH HOW ABOUT THAT SAFETY NAMED john lynch!!!!!
