What The Bucs Need

March 20th, 2018

“Jason, if you need it, I’ve got Deion Sanders’ phone number.”

Joe is going to be a pain in the posterior for some people because Joe has simply had it.

Joe doesn’t think it is irresponsible to constantly shed light on the fact this Bucs organization has not and seemingly cannot develop a double-digit sack guy. It’s been 12 seasons since Simeon Rice had over 10 sacks. Enough is enough.

Yeah, Joe understands this may get some briefs bunched up at One Buc Palace but guess what? They have it in their power — if they truly want to — to resolve this issue.

Twelve seasons folks, 12 seasons! It’s past the point of laughing about it. To fail so often and so spectacularly if not ignore one of the most important positions on the football field is shameful. Joe has made it his mission that folks no longer overlook this stain until it is resolved.

No, the Bucs really didn’t address this in recent weeks. The Bucs did address the run defense up front, and that’s not a bad thing. But this just means teams will throw more on the Bucs, which isn’t exactly a good thing when you look at no edge rush and the team on March 20 seemingly doomed to start Ryan Smith at cornerback.

And while edge rush continues to be a black eye (and hole) for the Bucs, Jenna Laine of ESPN believes the Bucs need to start addressing another area of the defense. The secondary.

At cornerback, they re-signed Brent Grimes, but it’s a one-year deal, and they still need someone to start opposite him if Vernon Hargreaves is going to continue lining up at nickelback. E.J. Gaines is still available. At safety, they re-signed Keith Tandy to a one-year deal and picked up the option on Chris Conte’s deal, but they need a true upgrade opposite second-year player Justin Evans. There are still a lot of quality players available, including Tre Boston, Eric Reid, Morgan Burnett and Ron Parker.

Joe can’t disagree with anything Laine writes here. In theory, the Bucs may have improved the pass rush with Vinny Curry. Time will tell. Younger, fresher and hungrier blood (than Robert Ayers) seems like a step in the right direction.

But if Smith is still starting at corner — and as much as Joe loves Brent Grimes, he did play hurt all last year and he is 35 — the secondary is thin as can be.

And with Smith as a starting corner, the Bucs might need Bruce Smith to slow down quarterbacks.

to be fair…there have been several names that had shown ability and potential that never “developed” because of injuries…not coaching…

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

    draft Edmunds at 7
    and
    Key in the second round

  3. tmaxcon Says:

    new owners

  4. Easy Says:

tmaxcon is the goat troll on this site #cancer93

  5. IsrBuc Says:

Why not the total number of sacks why is the ‘double digits sacks guy” such a milestone?

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs Defense needs a new DC. One who does not hide up in the pressbox during gametime under the pretenxt of…I get a better view of the game. That view has not worked thus far. Get your A.s on the field Smitty. Your troops need you and You..need to coach better.

  7. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Pick up EJ Gaines and Eric Reid and our secondary would be in a much better spot going into the draft.

EJ Gaines was good enough to start Opposite Tre’davious White for the playoff bills, and Eric Reid, silly anthem protests aside, is a very good in the box safety who can also cover Tight ends, Full backs, and bigger running backs.

    Do the right thing Licht.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe….while I truly appreciate your articles & passion….regarding the pass rush woes of our Bucs……this is getting quite redundant.
Suggestion….tell the other Joe to stop writing articles about the pass rush…that way you can keep writing them and they would be cut in half.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

Ideally we would sign EJ Gaines & Ron Parker for under $10 mill.

Then in the draft we go with all D-line and a LG & RB.

Like if we traded down with Buffalo for 12 and 22

    12-Davenport DE
    22-Will Hernandez OG
38-Sony Michel / Derrius Guice RB
    69-Duke Ejiofor DE

I don’t even care what we do after that. Get a dynamic returner / a DT / an OT and call it a day.

O-line would be set and we could cut Sweezy and save additional cap space.
We’d have a DE room with Vinny Curry / Noah Spence / Marcus Davenport / Duke Ejiofor before we have to mention a guy like Will Clarke. Plus McCoy/the big hogs we signed and another DT in the draft.

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

Also that long mock draft with other online posters ended like right around round 4.

With my 2 round 4 picks I was going BJ HIll – DT from NC State and Ade Aruda – DE athletic freak prospect

My haul for the first 4 rounds was:

    OG-Nelson
    DE-Harold Landry
DE-Robert Quinn (swapped Bucs 3rd with Rams 4th and gave up a 7th – this was before the real Quinn trade happened)
    DE-Ade Aruda
    DT-BJ Hill

I emphasized pass rush for sure lol. Would have to take fliers on late round RBs though but there are quite a few I like in this draft.

  11. ShutTheBucUp Says:

    Lol @Altered Ego
Whatever you need to tell yourself to let you sleep at night.

Did you Eagles complaining about injuries last year?

    No

That’s because good coaching + depth is what good teams prioritize.
The bucs are obviously not one of them. Not as long as Dirk “stubborn till the point of ridiculousness” Koetter and Mike “I’ll ruin your defense and steal your money” Smith are still at One Buc Place.

  12. Marine Buc Says:

A poor pass rush combined with below average defensive backs. What could possibly go wrong?

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

I don’t see how Joe can be outraged!!!!! When he knew and cheered the marching orders fcr NFL GM Jason Licht to Build an elite offense!!!!! almost all the resources have gone to this endeavor, so when Joe says that they don’t value pass rushers, he is Right!!!!!!!!

Hopefully the offense is just about set!!!! and now we will see them “value” the D-line!!!!!!! But to say joe is fed up is wrong!!!!!! Its like last year when Joe wanted the defense to blitz, jam receivers and double team their best wr!!!!!!!!! How many to you think we can field!!!!!!! Their is a limit of what can be accomplished!!!!!!!!

The Smoke screen was so thick that the sheep could not see and were jumping ship left and right!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We would be just fine if Mark Dominick hadn’t let go of Michael Bennett “for no good reason”…..

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let me repeat that…over & over & over & over again…..We would be just fine if Mark Dominick hadn’t let go of Michael Bennett “for no good reason”….

  16. AlteredEgo Says:

“marching orders fcr NFL GM Jason Licht to Build an elite offense!!!!! almost all the resources have gone to this endeavor,”

yep and Buc luck will have Nelson sitting there at 7…guard in Steve Hutchinson class…and the Bucs instead of taking him will go D BPA….
of the 3 Chubb,Nelson,Barkley….I like Chubb the least and would pass on him to take either of the other 2

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Just in case it didn’t sink in…….We would be just fine if Mark Dominick hadn’t let go of Michael Bennett “for no good reason”…

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

And don’t see how Joe can write story after story of “Accountability” and then turn around and put his head in the sand and not mention talk show dominik let bennett go to crowbar his draft picks into playing time!!!!!!

    Shame on Joe!!!!!!!!!

The Smoke screen was so thick that the sheep could not see and were jumping ship left and right!!!!!!!!!

^ I like it bro! I’d tinker with it a tiny bit and I also think the Bills would include their #96 pick, so I’d go:

    12-Marcus Davenport
    22- Derrius Guice
    38- Arden Key
    69 – Derrick Nnandi
    96 – Frank Ragnow
    4th – Best CB available
    5th – Developmental RT
    6th- BPA
    6th – BPA
    7th – BPA

Our O-Line and running game would be set and our entire D-Line would be completely revamped.

    DE: Curry/Davenport/Unrein
    DT: GMC/Nnandi
    DT: Allen/StevieT
    DE: Spence/Key/Gholston

I’d be thrilled with the above … HOWEVER, I really feel like the team needs to sign EJ Gaines or Brashaud Breeland and a starting quality SS like Tre Boston or Kenny Vacarro BEFORE the draft so we don’t have to “reach” for needs on draft day at any point!

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I do agree that total sacks for the team is far more important than a double-digit sack guy…

Which would you rather have…..a double-digit sack guy or 45 team sacks?

  21. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

It really comes down to: Talent Evaluation and Coaching. Look no further than these 2 constant failures.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Realist

Is your favorite….Adrian “Slowburn” still available?

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

Some do not want to use total sacks because the Bucs were top 10 in team sacks in 2016!!!!! Which would make the coaching staff look good!!!!!!!

The agenda is to paint everything in a bad light as it is to prove that everyone is holding JW3 back and should have been in the playoffs already!!!!!!!

The Smoke screen was so thick that the sheep could not see and were jumping ship left and right!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. lokog Says:

i don’t agree with anything this girl is saying except for the ej gaines part what we need is to be hunting qbs McCoy cant do it all, spence hes proven he cant stay healthy who else do we have?no one

  25. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

I thought he signed with the Pats for a 1 year vet minimum deal!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. lokog Says:

    we need suh

  27. AlteredEgo Says:

Nut…I like your tinker and would be VERY happy if that comes to pass…..

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo has the speed and power to sack the QB…..the only thing holding Pablo back is constantly tripping over Pablo’s elongated arc……perhaps Pablo should switch to the Oline where Pablo could use his elongated arc to trip pass rushers…..Pablo wonders if Pablo would be “penile-ized”.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Walter Football now has us taking Arden Key in the 3rd round. He’s fallen even though he’s supposed to have first round talent because of off field issues.

Presumably the Bucs will do their due diligence and the 3rd round is pretty deep for Key. Perhaps another Noah Spence who realized his mistakes and has corrected them.

Problem is he’s another Noah Spence on the field as well…a hybrid DE/LB…smaller. Still he could be a steal in the 3rd.

  30. AlteredEgo Says:

Remember when the Buc collapsed the pocket and multiple guys crushed the QB……well give credit to the DB part of the equation …..man did we take that for granted and thought it would always be so……

  31. Eric Says:

If only lack of sacks and super crappy coverage were are only problems the last ten years.

Its been an across the board colossal failure.

All because the owners started mistakenly thinking they knew something about pro football and making idiotic firing/hiring decisions.

putrid sack output is just a symptom.

But I still have hope Jameis will pull us out of it, despite the substandard coaching staff and front office. If he plays like he did the last month of the 2017 season for the entire 2018 season then we have a fighting chance.

Chance of playing decent defense? no chance. Not happening even if we get Chub.

  32. AlteredEgo Says:

Yeah ..I saw the Walter last night and liked it….the Bucs have had great luck with LSU guys falling in the draft….hopefully they collectively can make Key see the errors of his ways

  33. tmaxcon Says:

bucs trade up for Chubb. Chubb refuses to play for bucs sits out the year…. It’s a bucs life!!!!

  34. AlteredEgo Says:

    I like your style tmax

  35. SCBucsFan Says:

Eric I agree – too many holes to pidgeon hole our pick to drafting a player to be an edge if a better player is available. The ship has many holes, won’t all get filled this year but make improvements and get back being respectable.

  36. 813bucboi Says:

    @realist

what about the bucs 2017 sack total?……22sacks huh!!!!!!…..makes the coaching staff look horrible!!!!!!!….makes the staff look incompetent!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  37. SCBucsFan Says:

On a bright note TMax you didn’t mention McCoy at all in that post. I’ve never seen anyone call themselves a fan that enjoys losing as much as you do.

Still praying for you and all that hate in your soul.

  38. 813bucboi Says:

    MORGAN BURNETT TO THE STEELERS

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  39. Alanbucsfan Says:

You can’t fix this team in 1 year, very few go from 5-11 to playoffs
    Good start with trench additions
Let’s see how draft plays out
3-4 win improvement would be successful year

  40. tmaxcon Says:

    SC

Heading truck shopping send a message to the man I need a good deal today! thanks! you do realize you made absolutely no sense in your post. the only one that enjoys losing is your doll playing super hero cancer93

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @SCBucsFan

Praying for Tmax is a wasted prayer….and I generally think there is no such thing….but Tmax is lost beyond redemption.

  42. tmaxcon Says:

    Alanbucsfan

raise your standards. real franchises set high goals and can turn around quickly. bucs will not turn it around because of no leadership top to bottom and cancer93 soft approach.

  43. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

you are exactly right… thak you for clarifying that for SC..

  44. Greg Says:

I actually agree with Joe. It’s not rocket science. Everyone on our defense of line during our glory days were first round picks. Gerald McCoy has had to work with crap next to him his whole career. It’s absolute incompetence that in a passing league we have not had a higher priority on pass rushers. Stop drafting guys that are 6 foot two 250 pounds. They are linebackers that cannot hold up against 300 pounds 6 foot seven lineman. The evidence is that Jack quiz Smith Noah Spence and Robert errors are always hurt. The bright side is that everyone Jason light has signed as lineman have a track record of staying healthy. Maybe they can shoulder some of the snaps so Noah Spence can stay healthy.

  45. Pickgrin Says:

Seems unlikely but if our draft could go this way – The Bucs would be in the best shape possible heading into this season.

    1st – Chubb
    2nd – Sony or Guice
3rd – Ragnow or best OG on the board
4th – best CB or SS available
5,6,6,7 – BPA with strong leaning towards defense and DL prospects in particular

  46. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs problems aren’t drafting players…….the Bucs one and only problem is “developing” their draft picks.

How many of the Bucs draft picks has received extensions/2nd contract?

If you are a NFL coach, you should develop any prospect UDFA or draft pick
At the least, they should show some improvent

This is why I’m not impressed with the Bus draft picks

They still need to be developed

  47. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @NUT

I’d love that too man. I really like trading down in every draft if possible lol.

Agree that we should sign a CB/S before the draft. That limits your dire needs to DE/RB/OG/DT and if you trade down you could literally nail starters at all 4 positions and go into 2018 with a top 10 o-line on paper / top 5-10 skill position offense / and a defense with at least some revitalized juice /depth on the D-line and secondary.

Top 5-10 scoring offense + average D = competitive team that should fight for playoffs.

Winston is still the big key to the whole season. If we see what should have been his 3rd year breakout in year 4 because he’s healthy/protected/has a run game – then we should be scoring 25-30+ PPG.

  48. LakeLand Says:

    ***improvement***

  49. Tony from L.A. Says:

The Bucs do not have a pass rush yet. Not at all.
If they go out and spend big on corners and safeties with the pass rush they have now, we will simply be talking about how those corners and safeties were bust free agent signings because they will get hung out to dry with the anemic pass rush.

But – if the Bucs continue to fortify the trenches and add 2-3 more DEs via free agency and the draft that can really compete, then the corners and safeties already on the roster will improve dramatically. We’ll be talking about the emergence of Smith and VH. Corners tend to look better when not asked to cover WRs for 4 seconds when the QB has a clean pocket. Shocking!!

Focus on the trenches this offseason.

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  50. Jjones Says:

^^Greg, you’re 100% right. Look at who we’ve lined up next to GMC his entire career and try to logically explain he’s the problem. Most of the coaching personell and staff we’ve had since that time has been straight crap. Glaziers just don’t understand how to get it done.

  51. LakeLand Says:

Instead of focusing on the draft and free agency. They should focus on getting some coaches in Tampa, who can actually develop players.

  52. NFLNut Says:

LordCorn and AlteredEgo … great minds think alike and we all seem to see eye to eye on the upcoming draft.

And, if we get Arden Key in the 3rd round I will be thrilled … that kid was way better than Bradley Chubb in 2016 … last year he had issues but he was a terror in 2016 and I believe Kwon, Beckwith and Buckner can get the best out of him in Tampa!

  53. LUVMYBUCS Says:

With my 2 round 4 picks I was going BJ HIll – DT from NC State and *Ade Aruna – DE athletic freak prospect

A lot of folks are sleeping on these two.

  54. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Tmaxcon-

My standards are super bowl champions, but it won’t hapoen with the same free agent spending/trade draft picks BS of the past…

  55. Pickgrin Says:

No way Arden Key drops to the 3rd round. Not with the severe lack of legit pass rushers in this draft. Very unlikely IMO that Key will be there when we pick high in the 2nd rd – regardless of “baggage”.

  56. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Sign
    -Bennie Logan
    -Kony Ealy
    -E.J Gaines
    -Kenny Vaccarro
    -Mike Davis

Honorable Mention: Ross Cockrell, Will Young, Tre Boston, Matt Slauson

  57. NFLNut Says:

^ I agree Key doesn’t drop to the 3rd … I do think he might be there when we pick in the 2nd, which is why I said if we trade down with the Bills, I’d grab Derrius Guice with the #22 pick and Key with out 3rd rounder …. however, we could just as easily grab Key with the #22 pick and Sony Michel or Nick Chubb with our 2nd round pick … both would be good by me.

  58. Pickgrin Says:

I think Sony will come off the board before Guice. Both could be gone by the end of the 1st rd or at least before our 2nd rd pick comes unfortunately.

  59. SOEbuc Says:

    @AlteredEgo

I’m starting to feel this way, also. Chubb is beginning to be my least favorite of Nelson, Barkley, and Chubb.

    E.J. Gaines +

    1. Nelson
    2. DE
    3. S
    4. RB
    5. DT
    6. DT
    6. CB
    7. DE

    UDFA: RB, CB, QB, S.

  60. lambchop Says:

Bucs need to sign S Eric Reid on the cheap.

  61. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  62. Ryan K Says:

    Good post !
Rice was the first Bucs jersey i ever had. I was 7!

  63. Bill Byrne Says:

“What The Bucs Need”…..is getting old. Time to move on to 2018. Five new free agents and the draft coming up is far more interesting than reading about Simeon Rice, John Lynch or Sapp from fifteen years ago. Let it go Joe and welcome 2018 with hope and optimism!

  64. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

What the Bucs Need………Is a new Defensive Coordinator, GM and Head Coach. That is what the Bucs really need. For all the Free Agent’s to work that Jason has secured is for Chubb to be there at #7. We do need a Pass Rush for sure.

  65. BucEmUp Says:

Been saying for years that our coverage dictates the tike available to get the sacks on the qb. Yeah we need corners but we also need to stop playing 12 yards off the line or nobody will get a sack.

Go pull up every play the Bucs got a sack on last season I’ll bet there wasn’t a 12 yard cushion.

    It’s cocaching

  66. LakeLand Says:

I look at the Seattle Seahawks

How they developed their players over the years.

    Kam Chancellor-5th round
    Walter Thurmond-4th round
    Richard Sherman- 4th round
    Malcolm Smith- 7th round
    Byron Maxwell- 6th round
    K.J. Wright- 4th round
    J.R.Sweezy – 7th round
    Jeremy Lane- 6th round
    Robert Turbin-4th round
    Luke Wilson-5th round
    Cassius Marsh-4th round
    Spencer Ware-6th round
    Jaye Howard-4th round
    Tharold Simon- 5th round
    Doug Baldwin-UDFA
    DeShawn Shead-UDFA
    George fant-UDFA
    Jermaine Kearse-UDFA
    Thomas Rawls-UDFA
    Gary Gilliam-UDFA
    Derrick Coleman-UDFA
    Brandon Browner- UDFA- CFL
    Ricardo Lockette-UDFA

**they converted J.R. Sweezy from DT to OG**

Coming out of NC State, Sweezy wasn’t a highly sought after draft prospect at defensive tackle. Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line coach Tom Cable set up a private workout with Sweezy and evaluated his footwork and physical strength. Cable, who had successfully converted defensive lineman to offensive lineman throughout his career, thought Sweezy had the tools and ability to successfully transition to an NFL offensive lineman. After agreeing to switch to the offensive line the Seahawks drafted him in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft, reuniting him with former NC State teammate, Russell Wilson.[6][7]

**These 4th round and lower prospects since 2010**

If I added their 1-3 round draft picks, this list would be twice as long

  67. LakeLand Says:

    ***Richard Sherman*** 5th round

  68. WutdaBucisthis Says:

If Chubb is gone. Grab Vea…don’t care about reaching nonsense. Grab Key or Landry with the 2nd. RB with the 3rd
Now coach Buck got some dawgs to train and let loose on the league

  69. SOEbuc Says:

Bucs need to resign Robert McClain before he signs with the Cardinals.

  70. J-Love Says:

The answer is pretty obvious to me: switch to a 3-4.

    DE-McCoy, Gholston, Clarke
    DT-Allen, Tu’ikolovatu
    DE-Curry, Unrein

    OLB-David, Bond
    ILB-Alexander, Lynch
    ILB-Beckwith, Bullough
    OLB-Spence, Glanton

Obviously this is before the draft and end of free-agency, so tge depth, especially back end, will change. But, you’ve maximised personnel and positioning.

  71. Defense Rules Says:

    @Pickgrin …
    1st – Chubb
    2nd – Sony or Guice
3rd – Ragnow or best OG on the board
4th – best CB or SS available
5,6,6,7 – BPA with strong leaning towards defense and DL prospects in particular

Can’t imagine a better draft Pickgrin. Fills all of our major needs at this point.

@Blake_BucsFan … “Pick up EJ Gaines and Eric Reid and our secondary would be in a much better spot going into the draft.” Two great additions & both positions desperately need upgrading, hopefully BEFORE the draft.

  72. Jjones Says:

Joe, you just got locked out of One Buc Place with this article. Let’s see how the organization feels after you bashed them for being incompetent because it’s spot on. I love it personally, glad you actually had the balls to say it because it’s TRUE. I guess we’ll find out if they actually read your posts or not. I wonder if the Glaziers minions scan these pages and comments to get the fans opinions? If so, GLAZIERS YOU ALL SUCK! Sell the team, give it to people that deserve it because you do not!

  73. Pickgrin Says:

DR – yea – but we’d have to get extremely lucky for Chubb to fall to 7 AND one of those 2 RBs making it to our 2nd rd pick. Like Luv said – Sony probably won’t even make it to 25.

This seems slightly more realistic and accomplishes roughly the same thing:

    1st – Chubb
2nd – OG Will Hernandez (UTEP)
    3rd – Rashaad Penny/Nick Chubb

  74. Pickgrin Says:

    ^^^
Which also gives a nod towards improving the trenches at the top of the draft as should be this team’s priority for the next couple of years.

  75. JimmyJack Says:

A 10 sack guy is often the result of relentless pursuit. That’s what I want. Our Dline does not get at the other team enough. I don’t see us playing physical in the trenches……I see more spinning and trying to run around the other team then anything.

There’s a reason why good teams collect more sacks and big plays in second halves. They wear down theOline all game. We don’t do that. And honestly I don’t care if you put a ten sack Quinn or Campbell with this group that doesn’t play physical.

Go back and look at the last series in the Super Bowl. The Eagles D Line was relentlessly pursuing Tom Brady on every single play. They weren’t spinning or trying to run around anybody they were coming straight at em. They forced Brady to throw the ball away a few times….a few more times…..then BOOM!!! Jackpot….Game Over…….A weak line allows Brady to get the ball down the field. Weak Lines lose in this league.

  76. tmaxcon Says:

    J-love

How many times does the selfish me first POS career loser cancer93 have publicly state HE REFUSES to play DE before you people finally stop mentioning him at DE

  77. SOEbuc Says:

NO RB IN THE SECOND!!! RB is stacked. Trade far back in the third and get RB Mark Walton (Miami) and picks. He might even be there in the fourth.

  78. JimmyJack Says:

We are three seasons away from a 10 sack guy if this line has that potential. We will draft that guy in round one next year and in the following he will hit 10. But only if this line learns relentless pursuit.

If we are lucky we are two seasons away if we somehow get that guy this year. All depends on how these guys wanna attack. Do they wanna try to spin and duck around their enemy or do they wanna attack?

  79. JimmyJack Says:

And we might be OK if wind up with Davenport…..I hear he doesn’t even have a spin moves. He just like to go right at the tackle and attack him and try to throw him into the guards. We could use a guy like that in this team.

  80. Pickgrin Says:

I would take a chance on Landry in the 2nd or Josh Sweat in the 3rd if we can’t land Chubb in the 1st and if either happened to still be on the board when those picks came for the Bucs.

    1st – Nelson
    2nd – Harold Landry
    3rd – Rashaad Penny

    or

    1st – Nelson
    2nd – Guice
    3rd – Josh Sweat

Admittedly – those are all just hopeful projections and most of those players will likely not be available when the Bucs are on the clock for those picks.

  81. SCBucsFan Says:

My hope is Barkley is photographed with a gas mask bong on and he falls to us in the second. Hey, a guy can hope.

  82. Joeypoppems Says:

You would think that they would have tried to adress the worst secondary in the NFL during FA….

  83. John meeks Says:

Go get Eric Reid and you have two quality safetys!

Go get Eric Reid and you have two quality safetys!

would that be the same Eric Reid who was Kapernick’s communist kneeling partner.

  85. John meeks Says:

Whatdabucisthis, unless bucs are going to a 34 defense, vita vea will not be a buc!He is a nose tackle in a 34,he has no pass rush moves and won’t over power the NFL guys.the bucs aren’t going to a 34 defense and we need our front four guys to pressure the quarterback!vita vea can’t pressure anybody, and the bucs know this!bucs don’t have any intention on drafting a one trick pony who would die in the Tampa heat!He wouldn’t be good for 30 plays a game in tampa, that’s if he didn’t have a heat stroke in training camp!just stop with the vita vea nonsense!Go watch him get blocked 1on1 vs pennstate!he got his ass handed to him!Go look at his stats per game! The guy isn’t all you people make him out to be!again,go watch his film!

  86. John meeks Says:

Tmax yea that’s him but I’m looking for good football players not choir boys!unlike most people on here!

  87. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Here you go TMax and John Meeks. Everybody is high all mighty on Justin Evans. Take his 5 best games last season and compare it to Tandy’s 5 games in 16 when Smith played Tandy and get back to me and tell me who was most productive. We have the secondary and team that can win if these damn Coaches we got would Coach em up and put the right people in the right spots on the field. GO BUCS!

  88. tmaxcon Says:

    john meeks

I am all about the felons but not communists

  89. John meeks Says:

    Tmax,I hear you bro lol

  90. tmaxcon Says:

    tandy

your loyalty to a career backup who has had 4 good games in 7 years is astonishing. not sure if i feel sorry for you or admire you. Tanday is not a nfl player

  91. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Come on TMax. I was starting to like you. Look at the facts Bubba. Do what I asked you and tell me who was most productive. He is an NFL player. Has anybody on the Bucs squad been signed 3 times.?

  92. JimmyJack Says:

Sorry bro Tandy got on the field last year. He did absolutely nothing when he was there. Conte was the better player, that ain’t good man.

If Tandy gets on the field and makes plays he will get more opportunity. Tandy didn’t even show up in preseason. If you’re not making plays you don’t see the field.

You ask Us to tell you whose more productive? Easy answer. Cote was. It’s all of film buddy. Start from Day one in preseason.

  93. tmaxcon Says:

    I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan

ok so say I give his 4 good games how do you explain the fact he stunk for the previous seasons. he seems like a good guy but he is hardly the answer to the bucs pathetic defense.

  94. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Just got to thinking, If Nelson, Chubb and Barkley are all gone. I’m really salivating at the idea of trading down with the Bills.

Buffalo, a team coming off a playoff berth for the first time in 17 years, simply will not be able to sell there fans on a legitimate QB competition between AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterson. So if there guy is still there at 7 we should swap with them for picks #12, #22, and #55.

    Round 1 Pick #12 – Vita Vea NT Washington 6’4 347

    Round 1 Pick #22 – Derrius Guice RB LSU 5’10 212

    Round 2 Pick #38 – Will Hernandez LG Texas-El Paso 6’2 348

    Round 2 Pick #55 – Ogbonnia Okoronkwo EDGE Oklahoma 6’1 253

  95. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

TMax not saying he is the answer to the Bucs problem. But I saw what he did when he played. I know Keith and talk with him and he is a great guy. He told me Lovie didn’t give him a chance and you seen what Smith did. And you seen how the Bong Banger and Conte and Evans performed in 17. In my opinion as a Former Coach you play who makes your team successful and that is what he does when he’s on the field. It is what it is Brother!

  96. tmaxcon Says:

    Tandy

first a properly used bong is your friend… second, i am sure he was screwed by Lovie. Lovie screwed us all without a reach around. I like Tandy he is a good role player but I don’t believe he is a starter.

  97. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Spence can stay healthy for 14 games….he’ll have 10 sacks….but that is a huge if.

  98. catcard202 Says:

I agree with Meeks on Eric Reid…He’s solid. He’s only 26, an LSU/SEC guy & a very skilled SS in a 4-3 DEF.

FYI, txaxcon… The Anthem Protesters chose their platform opportunity & used it…The same way you just used this site – voicing yours. I hold no ill will for either…That’s what American’s do…We take our liberty seriously & voice our opinions, even when others disagree…Frankly, I don’t care who they sleep with – who they voted for – who they worship – etc…If they can help the Bucs get another Lambardi trophy, it’s all Peaches & Cream!

Plus…Right now…Reid is probably on the cheap, as compared to what his real market value should be – minus protest baggage.

    (Hell, I’d take Reid for 3ys/$13M & Keapernick on a 2yr/$10-12M flyer as a #3QB insurance policy on JW3&Fitz injuries…But I’m ballsy like that!)

  99. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

stop with the PC BS bring back the girls and morning cup of Joe. you like reliving the past with buc has beens try reliving the past with morning cup of joe with past winners from the Shepards wet tshirt contests… it’s not being sexists if it’s history.

  100. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Jimmy Jack Tandy was hurt last year. If you remember he took Contes spot when he was hurt and Conte couldn’t get back in the lineup. I’m just saying look at Evans or Contes best 5 games and compare them to Tandy’s games when the Bucs were winning and tell me who was more productive? And why sit him like Smith did?????

  101. JimmyJack Says:

I’d just like to know why Tandy isn’t making any play when he is on the field. If he is good he would make plays right? I thought that’s the way it works?

The only time I see him he is late to the play.

TBBF…….I’m not counting on Spence at all. I see his spot as an empty spot on the roster and the Bucs would be wise to see it that way as well. Anything we get from Spence is just a bonus to me. The dude is just not reliable.

  102. JimmyJack Says:

Tandyman……I will give you that. I did hear that he was injured. I’ll look to see him return to that same form he showed in those games. I hope he brings it.

If he does he will be our starter. There’s no doubt about it.

We shall see how he plays in August. That’s where he will earn his spot. He just simply did not earn anything last year IMO

  103. tmaxcon Says:

    catcard

agree completely until you go all nutty with the kapernick crap…. I’d take reed… nfl needs to keep the politics and protests out the game day experience. the country is screwed up enough give us a few hours on sunday without the BS half these protesters have NO clue what the hell they are even protesting. but i agree they have the right

  104. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Yea we will see what happens when it gets real Jimmy Jack. Just hope #93 don’t make TMax look silly again!!! Go Bucs

  105. tmaxcon Says:

    tandy

you don’t have to worry about that the only one cancer93 makes look silly is himself clowning for the cameras and not producing on game days.

  106. Destinjohnny Says:

Our gm nailed the draft 2 years ago
In the deepest defensive line draft in 25 years
    He takes
A slow undersized corner who was mediocre in college
A 230 pound defensive end who has one move and ran a 4.8 forty
And we traded up for a kicker
    You wonder why we suck…
We have a scout for a gm

  107. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

I hear you TMax. Just hope you hang around when and if 93 gets gone

  108. StPeteBucsFan Says:

If we somehow land Nelson in the draft to go with Jensen and Marpet to form a really talented and scary interior three it takes a lot of pressure off the RB position.

We don’t need to spend a 2nd or even 3rd in the draft…there are plenty of RB’s who could run behind that trio. Those guys are athletic as well as mean and they can pull or get downfield to block LB’s and get our RB’s into the second level.

Barber is probably that back…he’s a UDFA if we spent even a 4th or 5th on an RB we might do better than Barber.

  109. todd Says:

Dominic Rodgers Cromartie still has 2 good ones left. I better see Suh at least be brought in for a visit. Resigning Conte was a mistake , the only view I ever see of Conte is the back of his jersey. Fitzpatrick can replace Conte immediately , and upgrade. We will get a very good RB in 2nd round. When asking yourself what the Buccaneers problem is , just remember , the fish always stinks from the head down.

  110. Defense Rules Says:

@Pickgrin … This seems slightly more realistic and accomplishes roughly the same thing:
    1st – Chubb
2nd – OG Will Hernandez (UTEP)
    3rd – Rashaad Penny/Nick Chubb

That’d be nice Pickgrin, but we’ve got so many needs on DEFENSE that using 2 out of our top 3 picks on offense (yet again) could very well screw us again this year. We need 1 DE, 1 DT, 1 CB & 1 SS in this draft (minimum). That’s 4 draft picks that we need to be starters or key rotational players. You don’t get those from the bottom of the draft.

  111. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Spence can stay healthy for 14 games….he’ll have 10 sacks….but that is a huge if.

He could have more than 10 sacks if Licht would sign SUH and play them on the same side.

  112. SammyRebel Says:

    I’m not sold on Davenport

  113. AlteredEgo Says:

    I’m not sold on Chubb…..Barkley and Nelson….in a heartbeat….

  114. Jarod lauderdale Says:

Man, I’m telling you, the more I follow up on Darwin James the more of a stud / star football player I know he will be… Trade back just a bit and take this guy bucs!

  115. AlteredEgo Says:

James is supposed to be a natural born leader

  116. Jarod lauderdale Says:

Seems that way to me.. Just listen to this guy talk & watch his play! With room to grow both mentally and physically.. I’m telling you, we have some interior lineman now, not getting ends that mean squat most likely this year so save it for next… Draft James and he will turn his part of the field lose! And his part of the field is all over the place…. In a good way

  117. DanBucsFan Says:

I agree on James. He will most likely be a star in Nfl, unless he gets injured. I won’t be disappointed if we pick him at 7 if Chubb and Nelson are gone. James has all pro ss written all over him, and like Winston he has great leadership. Imo James will be selected either 9th or 10th if we dont take him at 7.

  118. NFLNut Says:

^ I’ve got the Redskins taking Derwin at #13 right now … if we trade the #7 to the Bills for the #12, #22 and #96 we could certainly take him at #12 …

  119. Owlykat Says:

Tandy was hurt and still played last year, but he is our best special teams player with toughness, speed, and good tackling. And he studies film more than anyone in the backfield which is why he showed what a good playmaker he is. However, he should never been stuck on the bench at Safety when his best position is CB, where he stared at WVa. If we don’t get a top level CB, move Tandy there and we will be set. Trade down with Buffalo and we can fill the rest of our holes. With our exceptional DL Coach I would be fine with Davenport or Hubbard at 22, take Hernandez with the other 1st round pick which finishes our OL, Penny with the 2nd, Safety Kyzer White in the third who is a true Strong Safety with the jarring hit, great on the blitz, and led his team in tackles on Special Teams, is 6’2” and 216 and runs a 4.56 40. Then Miami’s DE Chad Thomas in the 4th, 6’5” 275 lbs. and a 4.84 40 (same speed as Chubb) and long arms and good strength, who can be developed with good coaching. Then Safety Terrell Evans from Va. Tech in the 5th. Florida’s Place Kicker in the 6th who only missed once all year and can kick an 87 yard field goal to compete with our 84 per cent pro who has missed extra points. With the second pick take speed rusher Armstrong who had 10 sacks as a Sophmore in the Big 12 playing for Kansas. In the 7th take the best special team player available.

  120. BigMacAttack Says:

Hargreaves was injured early and it remained all season. Look for him to bounce back in a big way this year.

  121. BigMacAttack Says:

The Bucs need a new strength and conditioning coach. They need to stretch more and should all do yoga

  122. Jarod lauderdale Says:

Owlykat, please do not mention place kickers on this site while discussing the draft… Shame on you! And in case you missed the memo we just got 1 in FA who is pretty good & 1 we had part of last year that is now camp 🍖

that’s a pretty funny post. thanks for the laugh… vh3 is a bust with no future… you can’t coach nor fix short, slow and stupid.

  124. THETRUTH Says:

You love Brent grimes !!????? All you do is knock him and his play hasn’t dropped off a bit.

He played hurt and still best CB we have and top performer in league. Enough with age argument, it’s not age you look at it’s drop off in production, than you can go after him.

Same with GMC old and will lose speed , well where he loses speed than make a comment

You guys would have asked for Ray Lewis and Tom Brady’s head at age of 30 just cause his age

  125. THETRUTH Says:

    Tmax

Little harsh on words , stupid really ? You know him and level of education to call him that.
