Tape Sold Buckner
March 2nd, 2018Turn on the tape.
That’s what many NFL types say when asked about a player. Only in this case, it was Bucs coach Dirk Koetter all but saying the same thing not about a player, but a position coach.
As we all know, the Bucs hired Brentson Buckner to take over the defensive line coaching duties last month. Now, Buckner has the unwelcome task of trying to turn a pass rush that is purely chickens(p)it into chicken salad.
Good luck.
Wednesday, when Koetter took to a podium at the NFL combine in Indianapolis to discuss all things Bucs, Joe asked him what Buckner brought to the table that impressed him enough to hire him.
It was simple, Koetter said. It was all on film.
“The thing that stood out to me – because I didn’t know Brentson – first of all, I’m always a fan of ex-players who go into coaching because it’s a hard transition. A lot of guys don’t want to do that after they’ve had successful careers as a player.
“But when we played against Arizona multiple times since he’s been there. Everybody recognizes Chandler Jones leading the league in sacks. Or Calais Campbell going on and playing well after he was there. But what jumped out to me is Brentson has had success with guys who maybe haven’t been star players and have gone to Arizona as free agents or as rookies and have maybe played a little bit above where they played before.
“That jumped out at me. Some guys I knew that we played against on other teams and all of sudden they go to Arizona and wow, that guy is playing pretty good. There must be a reason for that.”
So does this mean Koetter hopes Will Gholston, under the tutelage of Buckner, can play above his skillset and get two sacks? Or that Robert Ayers can get eight sacks?
Joe likes the hire of Buckner, if for no other reason than if some guy is dogging it, Buckner won’t be afraid to get in his grill and let him know first-hand how he’s stinking up the joint.
Things have to be corrected in a hurry. As Koetter himself said this week, “We can’t have 22 sacks!”

every year we get excited about new coaching hires and free agents and how lucky we are to have such great coaches and players and every year this great players and coaches find their way to the buccaneer safe space the NFC South Basement
4-12 is extremely optimistic for next year.

Love Coach Buckner’s attitude. Sorely missing that component on our team and in our locker room.
March 2nd, 2018 at 1:33 pm
Is it just me or does he look like Paper Boi from Atlanta on FX?
March 2nd, 2018 at 1:37 pm
We all loved the Hayes hire too.
Still…

Saquon 40 yard dash = 4.41 (1st attempt) @ 233lbs— 233 freaking pounds!
Mayock just said that only one (other) player in the HISTORY of the combine bench pressed at least 25 reps and had a vertical leap of 40″ or more–Myles Garrett. Well, Saquon had 29 reps and 41.5″ vertical leap.
Runs a 4.41 @ 233lbs. For all those wondering about the rest:
Guice–219 lbs–4.46 14 pounds lighter
Chubb–235 lbs–4.58 2 pounds heavier
Michel–218 lbs–4.56 15 pounds lighter
Ronald Jones II–216 lbs–4.66 (hurt hamstring during) 17 pounds lighter
Who cares about the rest.
Go Bucs! Go Barkley Bucs!
March 2nd, 2018 at 1:54 pm
Saquon 2nd attempt 40 yard dash= 4.42
@ 233 lbs
Go Bucs!
March 2nd, 2018 at 1:56 pm
Rashad Penny was supposed to not have breakaway speed…..220 4.47 faster than Zeke and Fournette
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:00 pm
Alright, didn’t realize anyone wanted him. They all say 3rd/4th rounder for him.
13 lbs lighter, 6 hundredths slower. But decent.
Go Bucs!

They sell me,after I have witness it with my eyes wide open. All of this offseason hype don’t cut it for me. I will buy it, or sell it in December.
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:18 pm
tmax- You sure you’re on sativa?!
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:20 pm
I don’t underestimate the value of sacks but, does anyone else feel like “We can’t have 22 sacks” is the scape-goat for a defensive strategy that would fail even if we got 40 sacks?…because I do, kinda.

Just spreading the gospel truth my man! Truth hurts when you are a buc fan. someone has to keep the delusional optimists who rewrite history daily in check. I am like a public service announcement in the form of reality.
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:26 pm
actually I am quit fond of a hybrid now. my dr recommended it of course.
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:27 pm
Wasn’t Hayes brought in because he got more production out of less talented players in Cinci??

I am positive Bucs will have more than 4 wins next year. I believe they will jave a good draft, and I think they get at least 2-3 key free agemt starters. Your optomistic 4-12 pick is not showing optimism but its kind of ridiculous.I wish i could place a bet on that one , id easily put 5k down that we have more than 4 wins. Did you really watch games last year? We had 10 games that were one score games. By that stat alone, shows we are not as far away as you think. And team Glazier will not be on the field deciding games so using them as a excuse is just as ridiculous.
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:40 pm
I am predicting that Buckner will one day be a head coach. He has the fire that gets players going and playing hard as they can.

@tmax:
You need a hobby. Or take up another sport or another team. Seriously, why do you waste your time on this site?

Sir what is ridiculous the fact this franchise has not won a meaningful game in 16 years and has not played in a meaningful game in 11 years. History proves my 4-12 pick is far more likely than the turn around you suggest. They have to earn my optimism back thus far all they have done is prove me right.

TampaTown
because it bothers you.
March 2nd, 2018 at 2:57 pm
Tmax is right. Every year the gullible fans by the B.S. that comes out of One Buc. In what reality has Licht made the right moves in free agency, and the draft? In what reality has Koetter shown he can get more then 22 point average in scoring? Did you all forget he played Martin even though he lost most of what he never had in the first place? I won’t be fooled again. If this team get’s 7 wins this year the mayor should throw them a parade.
March 2nd, 2018 at 3:09 pm
I am not negative I am forcing this failed franchise to EARN it for once. I would like to thank the delusional optimists and those living in denial, which is all you folks giving free passes with delusional optimism. Your positive outlook is so very special it is downright priceless entertainment. I never knew so many men were afraid of reality and needed everything sugarcoated or their feelings got hurt.
Joe and thanks to you I get a few hours a day of outstanding cover charge free entertainment before heading off to the gentlemen club for a lap dance. I think the preachers daughter Destiny followed by Trinity is on today’s menu. God Bless America and God Bless Preachers daughters with no morals.
March 2nd, 2018 at 3:35 pm
Something must change, anything, and for God’s sake spend at least half the Glazer loot.
March 2nd, 2018 at 3:41 pm
Buckner improves the Defense. And Mike Smith sits in the pressbox with his binoculars eatin tacos…gettin all the credit for sittin on his A.s!
March 2nd, 2018 at 3:42 pm
tmax- Of course your “doctor” recommended it! Although if you’re in Colorado, do you need a Dr.?!
“Public service announcement”!!! You are deranged! Consistent though.
March 2nd, 2018 at 5:27 pm
Robert Quinn traded to the Dolphins
March 2nd, 2018 at 7:44 pm
@Tmaxon
As usual, your response to my post makes sense. I cant help but say I understand your point of view. I do sometimes get bothered by the negativity I read from upset fans. But by all means I do understand why, although I disagree with some you say, I do understand you are a knowledgeable fan, and respect your opinion, even when i disagree with some that you say. Hopefully this year the Bucs put a product on the field we can all be proud of. Stranger things have happened. ..Go Bucs. And please Mr. Licht , DON’T SCREW THIS UP!!
March 2nd, 2018 at 8:38 pm
It means their strategy of hiring scrubs castoffs and undrafted fa’s is alive and well. Pull the plug on this clown show. Clean house!
March 2nd, 2018 at 8:45 pm
tmax you are a negative jack wagon. i think you had no friends to play with in kindergarden and not enough mother’s milk in pre-school. I have monitored this sight for quite a while, am a season tix holder and really do not remember one positive comment that you can or ever will offer to the cool sight. you are truly a legless meat-horse in the waiting.
March 2nd, 2018 at 8:48 pm
Get ready For a loooooooooooooooong season fellas. Unless Winston becomes Tom Brady we’re in deep Doo Doo 💩 it doesn’t sound like these guys are gonna do squat to make this team better. I hope I’m wrong. I don’t think we’re going to do anything in free agency that really makes a difference. Loyalty to a fault or Tony Dungey. Here we go again. Better find something else to do next year. Sorry Joe this team is done. Once again I hope I’m wrong. Captains going down with the ship walk the plank Kotter ,Licht and everybody else. It’s a terrible bucs life.
March 3rd, 2018 at 2:56 am
If jason Licht has a 6-10 season this year, he will have exact same record as Dominick, as Bucs GM…yikes!!
March 3rd, 2018 at 4:15 am
Gentlemen: Tmax gets his jollies by trolling the board and when he hooks you and you respond, well it simply makes his day. He will say anything negative to push buttons and elicit a response. On Yahoo you could simply mute the guy but here you have to read his negativity or simply ignore him (or the site). He is not the only troll on JBF but he definitely spends most of his waking days on the site if you notice how quick he is to post something about McCoy, claim that the USF basketball team/Cleveland Browns are a better club, or simply go after an optimistic poster. The guy is like the big dog of JBF, inflames and then awaits a response….
March 3rd, 2018 at 6:30 am
Manzielmadness, Yes Hayes was brought here the same reason Buckner is now here. Same results will follow as long as Mike Smith is running his soft cover two.
I don’t understand why they fired lovie to bring in Smith, makes zero sense.
One thing that stuck with me in Jason Lichts combine presser was describing the coaching staff as “dirks staff”
I hope once this season is over and everyone gets fired they at least keep Jason
