Sweezy’s Future

March 17th, 2018

“Jason, why is this guy here? I don’t need to buy a timeshare in Colorado with the wine snots when I can just go to Ed’s place and hang with Trump.”

There will be changes on the offensive line.

That much is clear.

Where and what those changes are, Joe isn’t sure.

Ryan Jensen, from what Joe understands, is your new Bucs center. Joe assumes Ali Marpet will be moving to right guard. That leaves left guard up in the air.

Currently, J.R. Sweezy is still on the roster, though Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said at the combine in Indianapolis that right guard Sweezy is still injured and is not yet cleared for football activities. Sweezy suffered a season-ending leg injury in the Monday Night Football game against the Dixie Chicks.

At this point, Joe would be mildly surprised if Kevin Pamphile, last year’s starting left guard, returns. He picked the absolute worst time to have his worst season in the NFL — a contract year.

If, for argument’s sake, the Bucs decide to part with Sweezy, it would be $1,875,000 in dead cap cash, per Spotrac.com.

Of course, if Sweezy is still hurt, perhaps an injury settlement would be in order — or the Bucs might owe him his full salary.

But with the addition of Jensen, Sweezy’s status with the team bears monitoring.

  1. JonBuc Says:

Sunk cost Sweezey would already be gone if Licht’s Out didn’t need to prove the signing the injured guard to a top dollar deal wasn’t actually worse than the Anthony Collins debacle.

  2. Jimmyt Says:

Joe, What might be happening here is the realization that Chubb will be off the board at 7 and the Bucs will not risk reaching for a lesser defensive end. If Nelson is available at 7 you draft him with the intent to have an elite O Line! Score 28 a game and hope you can improve D enough through the draft, win with dominant offense that can control the ball and when need be out score opponents in a shoot out type of game. Evans, Djax, Godwin, Brate, Howard & even Humphrie. That’s lethal & last year zero run game. Improve O line, improve running game. Who can stop that?

  3. tmaxcon Says:

Why no mention of sweezy at LG he has history there. Glazer clowns will force licht to try that rather than eat 1.8m

  4. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

(After the childish moderation routine runs its course..)

THIS Bucs fan had been saying long before just the same theme up above. When everyone including @Joe had been scoffing at (in posting contrary direct articles on such) and refusing to believe that a 2018 Bucs philosophy would have to be winning games on average by the score of 34-28 with SA-QUON, Say-gone Barkley, is a very sensible football IQ way to go, and to play to your strengths.

And… to ..@cmurda (or others acting a fool), making the Mike Ditka/Ricky Williams trade package comparison is imbecilic.

In 2015, when the Rams went from #15 to #1 overall this was the package they sent and received:

    Traded Away: 2015 –15th overall, 2 second rds, 1 3rd rd
    2016–1st and 3rd rd picks
Received back: 2015–4th rd and 6th rd picks

SOOO….bottom line we ONLY HAVE TO GO FROM #7 to #1, NOT #15 to #1.

    Suggested BARKLEY BUC ammo:
    2018: —7th overall, 1 2nd rd, 4th rd
    2019: —1st and 3rd round picks
    Receiving back: 2018 5th rounder from CLE/NYG

RE-read that package. That’s roughly all that stands between SA-QUON, Say-gone Barkley being a BUCCANEER. Ask the Falcons how they felt the next year after acquiring Julio Jones, or the Rams with Goff, etc etc.

Go Bucs! Go Barkley! Go Bold! Go Primetime!

  5. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

If Chubb is gone take the guard and you have the Dallas Cowboys line here in Tampa!

  6. tmaxcon Says:

    TouchDownTampaBay

Slow way down. It would be nice but they have to earn on the field. But fan should know better about free passes…

  7. NFLNut Says:

Saquon, Chubb, Nelson or TRADE DOWN for a king’s ransom as one of the top 4 QBs will still be on the board imho

  8. SteveK Says:

Cut/restructure Sweezy. Draft Nelson and let these boys eat. Draft a RB early and let these dudes pound the rock.

  9. chargedcbh13 Says:

Of course EVERYBODY has to earn it on the field year after year, this is how Free Agency can help. If we signed the Guard from Carolina, right now we would have a better OL for the run and protection for Winston. BONUS that’s one pick we don’t have to use on a guard in the draft. If you use Free Agency correctly it can greatly improve your team quickly.

  10. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

    Guys!

You don’t have to cut Sweezy to draft Nelson or sign another interior lineman. That’s been the Bucs problem for 15 years – signing/drafting just enough players to field a competent lineup on paper and having terrible depth and no backup plan when the inevitable injuries occur or the inevitable bust player occurs. Keep Sweezy AND bring in another interior lineman and then… wait for it… the Bucs have DEPTH.

And before all of you capologists go crazy… stop. The Bucs have the cap room to do this next season.

Steps have been taken… more steps need to be taken.

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  11. Joeypoppems Says:

It would boggle my mind if they ended the Marpet experiment after 1 season. But a lot of things they’ve done has boggled my mind.

  12. SteveK Says:

Marpet is a stud RG in waiting. And he was the best option at C last year.

  13. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Joeypoppems

Would it boggle your mind more than signing a guy who had the best year of his career playing Center for 4 years 42 million only to switch him back to playing guard?

Ali Marpet was far and away better at Right guard in 2016 than he was at Center in 2017.

  14. P’cola Buc Says:

Jets just finished a trade for the Colts number 3 pick….how might this effect the Bucs?

  15. Easy Says:

Won’t affect it much at all. The Colts will still draft Chubb

  16. adambomb418 Says:

Colts just trade back to 6 with the Jets and got a haul of a trade.

  17. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Interesting….I think Licht needs to look at moving up to 5 now. Chubb or Saquon might just be there for the taking.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I wouldn’t have a problem keeping Sweezy with a restructured deal…..we need depth….one man down on the Oline and we have problems.

I think we will have a shot at Nelson or Minkah at 7…..I also think we may have a chance to move down…..there should be a couple of good QBs there at 7 with several teams interested.

The bottom line is we can’t make a mistake with our pick by reaching for a DE.

I would not be totally opposed to trading up to 3 or 4 for Chubb or Saquon…but trading to 1 would be too expensive.

  19. P’cola Buc Says:

So the Bucs still in the same draft situation. They would have drafted before the Colts at # 5 …. but they really needed to win that last game to get to 5-11. (Sarcasm)

  20. SteveK Says:

    Trading up is too expensive.

Ride it out and hope that one of Barkley, Chubb, or Nelson are there. I’m hesitant to take a S, Fitzpatrick, at #7. If the 3 blue chippers are gone, then that means one of the top 4 QBs are there and I hope we can get both of Buffalo’s 1’s and the first pick in round 3.

I wish the draft was earlier like it used to be. It’s such s long wait time the end of April.

  21. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I think Buffalo might just be getting a little nervous now with the Jets moving up to 3.

  22. Costa Rica John Says:

Even with that trade by the Jets the Bucs are in the same position. I’m still looking at lineman but Nelson and Chubb might not be there. We may end up with one of the DT’s to pair with McCoy. It would make us strong up the middle. Still not much pass rush. It’s a Bucs life.

  23. chargedcbh13 Says:

The Colts and Jets both announced a trade this morning that features the Jets trading up with the Colts, from No. 6 to No. 3

  24. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Funny…how ironic that this Bucs fan just penned that post above, and now the Jets…just pulled off that extremely BRIGHT stunner there. 3 second round picks for your franchise QB of the future is WELL worth it. Smart, shrewd. Well done Mike Maccagnan!

Licht CAN and WILL go get SA-QUON, SA-QUON.

Theme is boys and girls, GOTTA go TAKE what you want.

    Go Bucs!

  25. Jason Mclaurin Says:

Why not move D. Smith to right guard and Pamphile to left Tackle if he is brought back. Sweezy is not a starting option for this team and Licht knows and is going about this offseason in that manner. Jensen just bought the versatility. I think they would be cheaper off by just moving Smith and Marpet to guard with Marpet playing LG. Bring back Pamphile and let him play LT. I don’t think they should cut Sweezy though. The dead cap is gonna eat at the Bucs later on plus he has 2 years left and he could be cut next season with no cap hit. He would be the only capable backup lineman we had besides Dotson who I think was resigned just to be a backup. If the Bucs draft a Tackle early you better believe Dotson is headed to the bench. Sweezy and Dotson would make outstanding insurance plans seeing the history of injuries within this group.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Hey, look at that. The Colts just traded down in the draft. I thought it was a bad year for that?

  27. Spicoli Says:

Here’s just traded up for the number 3 pick…. Chubb could be available at 7 for the Bucs

  28. Bucsfan1988 Says:

I’d definitely be open minded to trade up possibly to 5 with Broncos.
That would all depend on what Browns & Giants do with the first 2 pics.
If they both take QB as well then I’d definitely try & move to 5.

We’d know that either Barkley or Chubb would be there depending on what Browns due with pic 4. If Cleveland moved down cuz someone else wanted a QB then that would REALLY be wild.

This could be an insane draft with trade moves for the first 7 pics this year.

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

No to trading up…let the market come to you….I’d consider trading up in the 2nd round however….gonna be a VERY good player waiting when the Bucs pick at 7 !

  30. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

How much would it cost us to move up to 5? Something tells me Buffalo makes a deal this weekend to move up from 12. Monday at the earliest. They might just have to give us more than what they originally wanted.

  31. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Talk about a complete and colossal failure at guard

Players DREAM of getting a free ride like Sweezy did for two years

……I think now it’s safe to acknowledge that he’ll never get his back or body back to his Glory days of Seattle. ………

  32. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    I’d take the Bill’s 12th, 22nd and 96th pick all day long.

  33. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Jets just moved up to #3. Colts are now at 6. We NEED to jump to 5

  34. AlteredEgo Says:

    I’d take the Bill’s 12th, 22nd and 96th pick all day long.

yep !…….EXACTLY what the Bucs need…..influx of young talent !….Bills have pick 65 or so too

  35. SB Says:

Mike Evans GOAT you just scooped me. Lol

Though I don’t want to move up. I want to move down to 20 and 21 with Buffalo

  36. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Hey Bucs faithful…think about it this way too over the next few weeks or so. IF Licht does NOT accept good trade down offers my say April 10th ahead of time, then THAT itself says something too, a peek inside his poker hand for sure.

Question really is…..when does Cleveland decide to get out of the #1 pick??? Jason could pull it off anytime…

    Go Bucs!

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

It does not matter that the Colts traded back to 6. What a deal they got huh? Seems like every team gets somethin nowadays..But us. They still say Chubb is there man. Had our sorry Bucs tanked that last game against the Saints, we’d be in a hellva greater position. My Man Sweez is gone..I think. What the hell Licht is waiting for I have no idea. Sweez got over on him. Be done with it. BUCLIFE BABY!!

  38. darin Says:

Why does this team lack the players it needs to succeed in Dirks and Smittys “schemes”? Because Licht has continuously traded away picks, aka players, during his drafts. The guy always reaches too when trading up. No more trading up please. Thats why they have this problem to begin with. I’d love for the bucs to get Chubb. At 7. Imo there will be 4 qbs taken in the top 6. Maybe more. Teams will always trade up before and during the draft for qbs.
Now that the jets have made the move I wouldnt be surprised if the bills do it soon too.
Also for you barkley lovers he isnt going number 1. The browns will take their qb at 1. Its getting alot more interesting now tho after the jets made a move. Now we are gona start seeing serious action and hopefully more qb needy teams will be in the top 6. Nelson, chubb, barkley. 2 of the 3 could be there at 7!!

  39. Saskbuco Says:

    1. QB
    2. QB
    3. QB
    4. Barkley
    5. QB
    6. Nelson/Chubb
    7. What’s ever left over from 6
In a perfect world Bills move up to 4 and takes a QB, then 6. Is Barkley, Chubb, Nelson and bucs get to pick 2 out of those 3 players

  40. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

So funny 17 posts about the Colts/Jets trade and Mike Evans chimes in again and acts like its breaking news! Lolol.

  41. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Better than SB who thinks the Bills still have the 21st pick in the draft. They traded that to Bengals last week to move up to 12th.

  42. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Touchdown tampabay
Lol I just woke up. Checked bleacher report and came straight here. Didn’t even bother to read the thread!!!! Lol story of my life, day late and a dollar short

  43. TeddyTB Says:

I begged for a loss game 16 but O well. We need some more picks I was hoping somebody would make A. Humphries am offer so we could get another pick. It would be awesome to get Barkley but that would put extra pressure on are next two picks to be immediate contributors

  44. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Wow, a move by two other teams this morning got me ALL excited for the Bucs and the draft now.

  45. lambchop Says:

Don’t count out the Jets going after Saquon Barkley or Bradley Chubb. If just one of the top 2 picks go QB, they’re locked for either Barkley or Chubb to fall in their lap. Would they go for a QB instead after having McCown and Bridgewater on the roster? I wouldn’t be surprised if they balked at drafting a QB.

  46. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

If I had McClown and Bridgewater on my roster, both on one year deals, you damn right I am taking a QB.

  47. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

U don’t give up 3 second rounders for a rb. Smh. They are locked in on a qb

  48. Ndog Says:

If we stay at 7 M. Fitzpatrick will be who is left. No way around it if we don’t trade up.

    1. QB
    2. Nelson
    3. QB
    4. Barkley
    5. QB
    6. Chubb
    7. Fitzpatrick

  49. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Saskbuco,

If at #2 you mean the NYG, they ARE NOT taking a QB, local media, Gettleman, indirectly all of them have said they are more “win-now” mode, with Eli’s 2-3 year window left.

Now, it’s possible someone else trades to #2 for a QB, then your order might hold up. The NYG do concern THIS Bucs fan in wanting to take Barkley, to help Eli, Odell, cover some inadequacies other than Solder, and the 49ers Center they just traded for. Barkley says “win-now”, even more so than Nelson, and Gettleman LOVES him some O-Line men.

Which is why Jason will have to bite the bullet, and GO TO #1. With all the analysis and hedging waiting back and forth…..you just have to go to #1.

Go Bucs! Go Barkley! Go Bold! Go Primetime!

  50. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Ndog

Someone ahead of us could take Fitzpatrick or Ward and we could get one of the big 3.

  51. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Mike Evans GOAT…

I agree. Many in Jets media say the feel around the Jets contingent at Baker Mayfield’s pro day was that the Jets wanted to bring back the “Joe Namath” swagger to the Jets. I believe they are hell bent on Mayfield at #3, with slight backup in Rosen maybe.

    Go Bucs!

  52. JonBuc Says:

Still don’t think there is much a of a difference between the 5th and 7th pick this year?

  53. lambchop Says:

    GOAT,

Good point, but anything is possible with the Jets and Browns.

  54. lambchop Says:

The more I think about it, the more I think the Jets are crazy to lose all those picks since they have holes dujour. QBs are risky business. But, I guess they’ve made their peace with the devil.

  55. LakeLand Says:

Jets paying former Rams’ CB Trumaine Johnson $26 million this season.

Rams paying Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, Sam Shields and Lamarcus Joyner on franchise tag a combined $25 million this season.

The Jets trade their 6 and three 2nd round picks to move from 6 to 3

These are not the old Cleveland Browns, John Dorsey is GM now
And he has one of the best football mind in the business

  56. SB Says:

Thank you for the info Scotty. I confess I am far too busy to be able to pay attention to what the Bills did last week. If it doesn’t happen on a weekend then I probably don’t know about it. Wonder why they would move up to 12?

  57. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Ask the Falcons how they felt the next year after acquiring Julio Jones

Snap shot of the Falcons before the Julio Jones Trade (2011)
    • (2010) – Atlanta Falcons* 13-3
    • (2009) – Atlanta Falcons 9-7
    • (2008) – Atlanta Falcons* 11-5 (Lost WC)

So its safe to assume – they considered Julio to be the missing piece to a Super Bowl Bid. Right?

    Referencing the following two seasons
    • (2012) – Atlanta Falcons* 13-3 (Lost Conf.)
    • (2011) – Atlanta Falcons* 10-6 (Lost WC)

But was Julio the missing piece? No
    • Their defense lacked toughness.
    • Their finesse-oriented offense – still lacked playmakers
    • Their roster lacked overall depth

    So they were exposed…

    Reference the following 3 seasons.
    • (2013) – Atlanta Falcons* 4-12
    • (2014) – Atlanta Falcons* 6-10
    • (2015) – Atlanta Falcons* 8-8

So they completely overhauled their coaching staff – and offensive & defensive philosophy. Drafted well, and picked up a few key contributors in FA

    Case In Point:

Note: Key Contributors through the Drafted

    2013 Atlanta Falcons Draftees
    • Desmond Trufant
    • Robert Alford
    • Levine Toilolo

    2014 Atlanta Falcons Draftees
    • Jake Matthews
    • Ra’Shede Hageman
    • (RB) Devonta Freeman ← 4th Round Pick

    2015 Atlanta Falcons Draftees
    • Vic Beasley
    • Jalen Collins
    • (RB) Tevin Coleman← 3rd Round Pick
    • Justin Hardy
    • Grady Jarrett

    2016 Atlanta Falcons Draftees
    • Keanu Neal
    • Deion Jones
    • De’Vondre Campbell

Note: Key Contributors through Free Agency

    2015
    • Adrian Clayborn
    • Brooks Reed
    • Patrick DiMarco
    • Jacob Tamme
    • Matt Bryant

    2016
    • Alex Mack
    • Andy Levitre
    • Mohamed Sanu
    • Taylor Gabriel
    • Aldrick Robinson
    • Derrick Shelby
    • Dwight Freeney ← Big Time Mentor for Vic Beasley

  58. LakeLand Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

John Dorsey will build the Cleveland Browns in the draft and free agency. I have always said that the Falcons drafted well and made good moves in free agency.

  59. LUVMYBUCS Says:

It takes a team to win in this league. One man won’t/hasn’t done it alone.

Trading that much draft capital – for a running back would set this organization back another decade.

Plus there’s plenty of backs in this draft that can tote the rock.
So there’s no reason to go – off half-cocked in an emotional hissy fit.
And trade the farm for a running back.

  60. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    LakeLand

    No doubt

  61. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe at this rate I’m gonna faint from all these BIG SPLASH FREE AGENCY SIGNINGS!!!shhhhhooooooot…Joe can you please do a confidence poll on GM Jason Licht.

  62. Rod Munch Says:

I’m not sure how injury settlements work in the offseason but I’d assume the Bucs just wait until he’s cleared by doctors to cut him. Or maybe they keep him through the draft just to see what they get. Sweezy, when you take away his cap hit is around a $5m salary, so the question is can you get better production for that money? I’m not as anti-Sweezy as others but $5m is a good amount – but I don’t know who all is available still and if there are any clear upgrades.

  63. LakeLand Says:

The Atlanta Falcons signed OG Brandon Fusco to a 3 year $12,750,000 contract and he has 83 starts in the league.

  64. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Rod Munch

Incorrect. Sweezy’s base salary is 6.5 million, with a cap hit of 7.125 million.

  65. El_Buc941 Says:

THE JETS HAVE TRADED UP IN THE DRAFT!!!FROM THE 6TH PICK THEY GO TO THE 3RD OVERALL PICK EXANCHING WITH THE COLTS.Tgis WILL force the Browns to take a QB first overall giving Barkley a chance to fall to 7 or Chubbs.GREATER DAYS FALL AHEAD BUCS FANS!NOW WE NEED LICHT TO TRADE UP FOR CHUBBS OR BARKLEY!!!

  66. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The Bucs will try to judiciously hold their money until they are forced…in the meantime they check out Sweezy and try to determine if his back…and last year’s leg injury are really healed. If he can no longer play cut him and cut your losses.

But IF he could play and got back to his Seattle self…that’s an intimidating middle three on our OL who all have nasty dispositions. We could be really mean maulers up the middle.

So let’s see I can’t really gripe. I wanted them to fix the trenches! So we just signed two run stuffers, among the best in the league for our DL…still leaves us needing a rush but we have the draft and UDFA’s to consider. We’ve just added a powerful mean interior OL. We have begun to finally address the trenches!!!

It’s about time. Not saying they’re done but they’ve at least made a credible start.

  67. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @LUVMYBUCS says:

Note: Key Contributors through the Drafted

Note….grammar might have been a key contributor at the end there. Just a thought. “Draft-ed”.

@LUV …was it you, unless I’m mistaken, that went on and on with all that nonsense about 100 yard games by RB’s, and trying to equivocate their value to 100 yard games only??! I think it was, but if might have been @NFLNut.

Look…p*ssies out there, keep driving your Honda Accords. That stodgy philosophy hasn’t worked for 5 years here (or before) and this staff still can’t foster that through anyway.

Glazers want a publicity-maker. LIcht knows he needs a difference-maker. Derrius Guice or (substitute whatever other hack you’d like) don’t keep Jason’s job.

Some are leaders, some are followers.

    Go Bucs!

Julio and SA-QUON are difference-makers. Glazers are difference

  68. LakeLand Says:

    El_Buc941

This is how I see the draft playing out

    1.Josh Rosen
    2.Saquon Barkley
    3.Baker Mayfield
    4.Bradley Cubb
    5.Quenton Nelson

This is how I see the top 5 picks now

  69. lambchop Says:

Agreed on John Dorsey. I was referencing the fact that the Browns have the 1 and 4 so they might do something unconventional based on need rather than best player available. This draft just got more interesting that’s for sure.

On another note, it looks like Jon Gruden is up to his usual self with the bargain hunting at the dumpster.

  70. LakeLand Says:

    lambchop

When Cleveland signed Carlos Hyde, I was thinking they may draft a QB first. But it makes sense, draft a QB and Chubb. Then draft Sony Michel or Derrius Guice in the 2nd round.

  71. lambchop Says:

True. So, most likely Saquon is gone at #2, #5, or #6. We’ll have a shot at Fitzpatrick, Ward, or James (i don’t like Derwin at 7). I don’t think the Bills want the #7 pick. If they want a QB, they’ll have to trade up higher.

  72. Architek Says:

It’s funny how many of us fans complained about the OL last year and the Bucs said they like their OL.

Isn’t funny how fans aren’t as uninformed as delusional and Bucs organization seems to be regarding building a roster?

Same issues remain from last year – LOL

  73. SKBucsFan Says:

As much as making a bold trade to move up is exciting. I am still reluctant to trade the future away for a RB. Some work out, many do not. It’s like picking a QB. Does anyone remember Cadillac Williams? I was excited that season…then dissappointed shortly thereafter.

  74. Thegregwitul Says:

I feel like the Bills trade into the top five and four QBs are off the board before the Bucs pick, which leaves Chubb or Nelson for the taking, assuming that Barkley is off the board as well.

  75. LakeLand Says:

If the Bills move up to 2 and take a QB. Then I believe the Browns draft Saquon Barkley at 4 instead of Bradley Chubb. But the Colts will draft Chubb at 6. But will Denver pass on Nelson to reach for a QB. Denver need a OG more than a QB, Nelson will be a franchise OG.

  76. mark2001 Says:

Joe…Licht, Koetter, and Smith’s status with the team bears monitoring.

  77. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Here’s my take. Jets traded up to get ahead of the 4th overall, which is the browns. Who does everyone think the browns will take at 4?

    Barkley.

That’s who the Jets are really targeting. Remember, they just signed Bridgewater, and he is not considered a bust at this point. They probably plan to start him in 2019.

Everyone thinks they traded up for a QB. Don’t believe it.

If the Bucs can trade down to around 12, they could take a good DE or DT and pick up 2-3 extra picks.

  78. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I bet no more than 2 QBs go in the top 5. Three in the top ten.

  79. Mike Johnson Says:

STPETEBucFan…When will the Bucs cut their losses with Easy Money Sweezy. The Seahawks let him go because they knew..he would never football recover from his back injury. We picked him up. And I said 2 yrs ago it was a waste. You don’t recover at the pro level from serious back injuries to play again on a regular basis. In High school..maybe college..But not the pro’s The Bucs got Hoodwinked with Sweez. Cut your losses and move on. The Patriots would have cut him…yesteryear!! Not us because ,……its a BUCLIFE baby!!

  80. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

No surprise, Bonzai’s take on things is incredibly dumb.

You don’t trade away that kind of draft capital to draft a RB. They have their eyes on a QB.

  81. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Good ol I.R. Sneezy

  82. Costa Rica John Says:

I’m with you LakeLand. Denver already has a few young quarterbacks to develop. They can roll with Keemun and develop the players they already have. Now they could trade out of their slot if the price is right but it’s unlikely.

  83. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Robert Ayers released

  84. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Bonzai
Your theory is completely off the wall. Jets NEED a QB. You don’t give up 3 2nd round picks for a rb lol.
Browns are taking a qb #1, giants are a wild card, jets taking a qb, browns taking skill player (Barkley, Ward, Minkah), Elway is taking a qb, Colts are taking Nelson or Chubb.

  85. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

We signed Vinny Curry and released Ayers

  86. Rojas Says:

Ayers released, Curry signed for 3 years.

  87. SCBucsFan Says:

Now just sign Gaines and I think it’s a reasonable off season despite sleeping in the first day

  88. Costa Rica John Says:

I’m going to have to look up Curry and see how he has done in the past. Let’s hope he provides some much needed pressure and some leadership along the defensive front.

  89. LakeLand Says:

Denver can develop Paxton Lynch, they have new faces on their staff

    OC- Bill Musgrave
    QB Coach- Mike Sullivan

  90. JimmyJack Says:

Kudos GOAT for being the first to report. But this is free agency pal, no more sleeping in. We need you grinding for the next few weeks, no excuses.

  91. JimmyJack Says:

No Lakeland, Denver will continue their abomination of choosing QBs and pick this years bust, Rosen.

Normally that honor should go to the Browns or Jets but now that New England is done power will be shifting across the league.

  92. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Lol JimmyJack
    I needs my beauty sleep

  93. Doctor Stroud Says:

The Bucs coaching staff just wasted an entire year of Marpet’s playing career over an “experiment”. They want to take unnecessary risks with the roster in order to prove that they can get by with less. And Sweezy’s “future”? We know far more about the Skunk Ape, the true identity of Jack the Ripper, and the origins of the universe than we will ever know about that guy. Team Glazer is determined to pay money for hyped players who want a #PaidFloridaVacation. The front office needs to get smart and fast!

  94. NFLNut Says:

^ Wasted a year? Marpet didn’t forget how to play guard in that year; he learned how to play center … he can now go back to kicking butt at guard and fill in at center if Jensen goes down … the “experiment” was NOT a waste at all imho.

This is how I see the draft playing out
    1.Josh Rosen
    2.Saquon Barkley
    3.Baker Mayfield
    4.Bradley Cubb
    5.Quenton Nelson
This is how I see the top 5 picks now
    —————————————–

Really Lake? Rosen #1 overall? That would SHOCK me. He’s apparently detested by his own coaches and teammates AND has said he doesn’t want to play for the Browns … NO WAY Cleveland drafts him #1 imho.

    I’ve got it:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
    Giants: Saquon Barkley
Bills (trade with Colts): Josh Rosen
Dolphins or Cardinals (trade with Browns): Josh Allen
    Broncos: Quenton Nelson
    Jets: Baker Mayfield
    BUCCANEERS: Bradley Chubb

However … if no trades are included, I’d have it:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
    Giants: Saquon Barkley
    Colts: Bradley Chubb
    Browns: Minkah Fitzpatrick
    Broncos: Quenton Nelson
    Jets: Baker Mayfield
Buccaneers: TRADE DOWN or Denzel Ward/Derwin James/MarcusDavenport

HOWEVER, I think the mock with trades is FAR MORE REALISTIC … I’d be shocked if there isn’t at least one trade amongst the first 6 picks.

    ****************

  96. AlteredEgo Says:

    or Denzel Ward/Derwin James/MarcusDavenport
I’d be happy with any of the 3

  97. NFLNut Says:

    *****************

I predicted the Jets trading up to the #3 spot a while ago … when it didn’t happen, I figured the Colts were trying to get an even bigger package from the Colts, but today the Jets got that #3 pick to take their next QB and PAID THROUGH THE NOSE to do so.

They basically traded 3,070 draft pick points #6, #37, #49 AND a 2nd rounder in 2019 for the #3 for a pick that was worth just 2,200 points … that is a 40% profit in draft capital for the Colts! GREAT WORK BY INDY.

Now, if the Bills want to trade up from #12 to #7 with the Bucs and we demand the same 40% profit in draft capital, the Bills would need to give us #12, #22 AND #96 for our #7 … THAT IS A KING’S RANSOM we should not turn down in all likelihood!

    UPDATED MOCK:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
    Giants: Saquon Barkley
    Jets: Josh Rosen
Bills (trade with Browns): Josh Allen
    Broncos: Quenton Nelson
    Colts: Bradley Chubb
Bucs: TRADE DOWN to Cardinals or Dolphins so they can take Mayfield

One thing I said over a month ago stays true … the Bucs should be able to get Saquon, Chubb or Nelson OR trade down to a QB needy team for a king’s ransom. I wish the draft was tomorrow!!!

    **************

  99. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Broncos are prolly taking a qb. Giants might screw it all up by drafting Nelson @#2.

  100. NFLNut Says:

^ You could be right on both counts but that still won’t matter in regards to the Bucs prospects … either one of Saquon, Chubb or Nelson will be available at #7 or one of the top 4 QBs will and we can trade down for a King’s ransom imho.

  101. NFLNut Says:

    BUCS GET SAQUON:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
    Giants: Josh Rosen
    Jets: Baker Mayfield
    Browns: Bradley Chubb
    Broncos: Josh Allen
    Colts: Quenton Nelson
    Bucaneers: Saquon Barkley

    BUCS GET CHUBB:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
    Giants: Josh Rosen
    Jets: Baker Mayfield
Bills (trade with Browns): Josh Allen
    Broncos: Quenton Nelson
    Colts: Saquon Barkley
    Bucaneers: Bradley Chubb

BUCS GET A KING’S RANSOM IN TRADE:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
    Giants: Saquon Barkley
    Jets: Josh Rosen
    Browns: Bradley Chubb
    Broncos: Baker Mayfield
    Colts: Quenton Nelson
BUCS TRADE #7 TO BILLS FOR #12, #22 AND #96 – BILLS TAKE JOSH ALLEN

All three mocks above are realistic and could happen … exciting times ahead!

    SB

Nothing Much Brotha – How’s everything going with U and the fam?

  106. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Boy, are you people in for an awakening. It will be:

    Right Tackle – Dotson
    Right Guard – Sweezy
    Center – Marpet
    Left Guard – Jensen
    Left Tackle – Smith

Marpet is not being moved. Jensen has the most experience as Left Guard.

The Bucs will roll with that lineup this year, giving Sweezy and Marpet one more year to get better.

  107. NFLNut Says:

^ Nonsense imho … Jensen signed to be a C rather than a G in Indy … Jensen was NOT GOOD as a guard but he was GREAT as a center!

  108. Bucballbaby84 Says:

Trade back! Trade back! Trade back! Get more pics? We’re not gonna get a generational player of need at the 7 spot.

  109. adam from ny Says:

if our 3 guys are gone at #7…the heck with it…trade with bills if they want to move up for a qb…get the mother load in return
