Robert Quinn Was Just Traded — And It Wasn’t To The Bucs

March 2nd, 2018

What’s going on around here?

Jason Licht better have some answers.

News broke this evening of accomplished NFL pass rusher Robert Quinn getting traded by the Rams to the Dolphins. For those unaware, the Buccaneers are aching and yearning for a 27-year-old edge rusher like Quinn.

Joe will update here later on what the Dolphins coughed up — Quinn is under contract for this year and next — but it doesn’t matter for the purposes of this post. Pass rushers like Quinn don’t hit the market often — and the Bucs didn’t bite.

Joe sure hopes Quinn — 8 1/2 sacks last year — isn’t this year’s Calais Campbell.

What makes this move extra intriguing is that the Dolphins opened last season with the highest payroll in the NFL at the defensive line position, including drafting defensive end Charles Harris in the first round of the 2017 draft.

Licht better have a different and bold DE option up his sleeve. Joe might need something stronger than beer tonight.

  1. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs know what Robert Quinn brings to the table. They still have flashbacks from the game when Quinn totally destroyed Big Donald Penn. I have never been sold on Jason Licht as a GM. He’s not a mover or a shaker, he’s a scout.

  2. TeddyTB Says:

I’m beyond pissed they only gave a mid round pick from what I’m seeing reported. Fire Licht before Free Agency!!!

  3. buc4life Says:

Unreal. That guy is a monster, would have loved to see what Buckner could have done with him.

  4. Lamarcus Says:

I’m a unhappy fan right now. Damn this team

  5. Sunny Says:

First peters for a 4th this year and 2nd next yr , and this , licht !!! Wake up and starting making moves . . . Lay off the Ale.

  6. K_Bassuka Says:

Of course not. The Bucs don’t need to trade for players like pass rushers, d-linemen or defensive backs, just like we didn’t need to replace our coaching staff. Our GM it’s a genius.

  7. Billy Buc N Brazil Says:

Peters and now Quinn?!! Licht is a moron!! Very depressing to say the least!!

  8. Sunny Says:

We can spend 2nd and 4th on a kicker !!!

Maybe the long snappers this year are being highly scouted!!!

  9. 813bucboi Says:

licht is going to sign aldon smith and dion Jordan……because at this rate they’ll be the only DE’s left…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  10. SammyRebel Says:

This offseason is already begun to disappoint , we still have Will no sack Gholston and Robert social security Ayers , Licht has never traded for players but he’ll be the first to make draft day trades, smh doesn’t make sense

  11. LakeLand Says:

This is coming out of Atlanta,

Since the Seattle Seahawks have decided to make defensive lineman Michael Bennett available via trade, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Atlanta Falcons investigate the asking price.

In fact, it should be expected.

Inquiring about such a deal makes sense, although the ideal scenario would be adding Bennett as a free agent if the Seahawks decide to release him.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn previously was the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in Seattle and spent plenty of time around Bennett. Judging by the warm embrace the two shared when the Falcons last visited Seattle, it’s safe to say the relationship remains strong.

Falcons defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel was a defensive assistant in Seattle and appears to share a bond with Bennett, based on their pregame interactions.

Not to mention Bennett’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, also represents Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

  12. 813bucboi Says:

I bet suh will restructure his deal now…..him wake and now Quinn…..that’s a good front line…plenty of help for suh…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  13. Sunny Says:

Mid rd pick so let’s just say 5th , what did we get with ours last yr ?? McSnoop ??? Smith ?? Vitale ??? We have great history with that pick

  14. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Fire Jason Licht.
I could run this team better than these Bozos.
I really feel bad for JW3. Stuck on this garbage team with pis$ poor management and he can’t get the help that he needs to win games. We need one or two more impact plays a game to win 10-11 games and the front office doesn’t want to make any impact moves. SMH. Looks like another year of mediocrity.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    LAKELAND

    that would be a killer

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  16. LakeLand Says:

I’m hearing a lot of chatter about the Falcons bringing in Michael Bennett to replace Adrian Clayborn.

The list of available DEs is getting thinner

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

Jason is a great guy but at the end of the day is a a average scout not a gm

  18. Pryda ...sec147 Says:

I’m okay with this we’re gonna get somebody and I will follow the Licht till the end

  19. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

See comment on prior thread….maybe just maybe, Licht might be saving his draft capital!!! Spin it around boys and girls.

    BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Bucs55,

I’m with ya brotha! Quinn being available would have been nice, and young at 27. Shame there wasn’t a trade there by Licht.

    Unless………..

Licht might be saving his draft capital in 2018 & 2019 for….some guy named Barkley.

    Go Bucs!

  20. Jeffbuc Says:

Unreal it’s becoming harder and harder to be a fan of this team. Every year watch all these players get traded for peanuts. And it’s always a position we need. I would have given a second rounder for a guy of his status at his age. With two years remaining on a contract. We could have solved our two biggest weaknesses for a 4th and 5th round pick this year and 2nd next year and we don’t. Can’t wait to hear the reasoning on this. Joe are they taking questions anymore this week. That should be the first question to Licht

  21. Sweeptheleg Says:

    Lmao.

    You all are surprised?

Have you forgotten that it’s the Bucs?

This is a prime example of why this franchise is a total joke.

Browns of the south lmao. From the top to the bottom everyone involved with the Bucs are a laughing stock.

Pathetic as s owners and coaches.

  22. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

(because this was so well written 🙂 🙂 🙂 )

    @Bucs55,

I respect your take on the RB class in this draft. I understand your opinion.

If any individual, can’t see that Barkley is not only just a mere RB compared to the others in the class, but much more…. that he is a tool to scare the life into opposing defensive coordinators during their preparations, also a player to FILL THE SEATS at Buc games (Glazers), also a player to urge the NFL to place us in primetime lineups in 2019 & 2020 (Glazers)….but MOST OF ALL, just a really good character kid that will fire up the entire team up when he arrives, handles the ball, gives the coaches more hope, inspires OTHER FREE AGENTS to come to Tampa…

Then I can’t help you. Any of you.

    Forest….through the trees…boyz.

    Go Bucs!

  23. Jeffbuc Says:

Better buc getting Barkley still doesn’t help our defense. Trading away are whole draft for a runninback would be plain stupid. Even if you did you still could of sent the middle round pick for Quinn and still had the ammo to move up

  24. Sweeptheleg Says:

Everyone just go ahead and get ready now and accept the fact that 2018 is already over and we will picking in the top 10 again next year.

    6-10

  25. Kansas95Buc Says:

    What’s going on around here?

    Damn good question Joe!

  26. Bucnjim Says:

Maybe they didn’t want to trade with any NFC team! Quinn himself may also have played a part who knows.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

For a 3rd or a 4th the Bucs could fixed their need at one DE?

    ….

Just dumb to not get that done.

  28. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Jeffbuc,

You’re right, we could still do both, assuming it’s a 5th or lower. If it’s higher, then we need the draft capital. Then re-read my post the post above yours.

Quinn would have been a nice addition, and no one is condoning a crazy Ricky Williams type thing. We have more draft capital + players to trade than that.

You sound like someone comfortable with an 8-8 season from a 5-11 season.

I’m approaching this like who Barkley is, and is to the future of ALL sides of the Bucs organization, and Licht’s desire to stay out of divorce court and the unemployment line.

    But that’s me. 🙂

    Go Bucs!

  29. Rrsrq Says:

    Drafting Chubb – long shot
Signing free agent – Ziggy or Demarcus – not a chance
Trading for a young DE who got game – swing and a miss
Trading for an aging DE that has been elite – unlikely
Signing a second – third tier defensive end – likely
Drafting a project – highly probable

  30. GrudenForPresident Says:

I have been saying fire Licht along time ago. Should’ve got fired along with Lovie

  31. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Same old Bucs same old story every year! What a joke! Hey let’s go get a 31 or 32 year old instead and help his retirement plan!

  32. Shorttrooper Says:

This is why we should have bit the bullet and cleaned house after this past season.

Let’s be honest, we know what we have in Licht and Koetter and they’re average AT BEST. By holding on to them we’re just wasting another year before the inevitable and necessary happens.

  33. donuts Says:

Didnt you guys get the memo? “We’re close” but we cringe by those lofty expectations. Hey but we have all that cap room again.

    Another miss…by Licht.

  34. Cover Deuce Says:

If his price is as low as it was rumored, this is pretty damning for Jason Licht. It would be borderline malpractice for him to have not gone after Quinn at the bargain price of a mid-round pick.

  35. SteveK Says:

    😞 😔 😢

Why does this keep happening to us?

    What is Licht doing?

We are so phucked this year.

The hits just keep on coming.

  36. Northend Says:

Short of snagging JPP in Trade Licht has just jumped the shark.
Last year Campbell,Year before Aguyo mess,Year before that Ghost Johnson now Quinn.
We have some horrible pro personnel people in this organization. This is mind boggling.
Please tell me Buckner reviving the sleeping dead DLine and a couple rookies isn’t his plan.
Go give Seattle a 6th for Bennett and Trade for JPP,sign Star. Something Jason WTF

  37. Duke Says:

    Jeffbuc,

You’re completely unequivocally wrong that a great RB doesn’t help the defense.
Of course it does. When a team is one dimensional it’s a lot easy for the defense.
If the opposition can’t get the ball back it allows the defense to rest. If you consider the team’s depth at d line, it is not in the best interests of the team to put the out on the field for any length of time.

  38. Joeypoppems Says:

Hopefully this lead to a DL heavy draft. DL first 3 rounds

  39. Lokog Says:

Im losin faith in this staff little by little

  40. Rod Munch Says:

ESPN said it’s likely a “3rd or a 4th” that Miami gave up. Ridiculous the Bucs didn’t get in on that, it’s beyond ridiculous, it’s moronic they didn’t get in on it. But guys don’t worry about it, the Bucs will again next offseason be in the top 5 of cap space available… and that’s what’s important! And that 3rd or 4th rounder, that’s someone like Ryan Smith, a true game changer (for the opposing team who can throw at will at him).

  41. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Duke….

Uh-oh…..sounds like there’s one in my camp!

    🙂

Hurray for the insurgence! Licht needs to put down the Natty Light, and pick up the phone!

Say it with me boyz….SA-QUON, SA-QUON!

Go Bucs! Go Bold! Go Barkley! Go Primetime!

  42. Guzziep Says:

It’s all my fault, if I wasn’t a Bucs fan, then the Bucs would be a good team, so please everyone blame me, don’t worry I’m going to start rooting for a different team…..said every Bucs fan ever

  43. Rrsrq Says:

I think Licht, Dirk & Smitty have their eye on this guy just released by the Falcons – Derrick Shelby

Shelby’s first season with the team was cut short when he tore his Achilles after appearing in six games. He returned to play in every game during the 2017 season, recording 30 tackles and a sack while making 14 starts on defense.

  44. SteveK Says:

    Rrsrq,

Lol I hope you’re being sarcastic. That would be disappointing.

I wonder if Licht even made a call?

  45. Rod Munch Says:

Quinn has been a top sack guy in the league and is still very productive, you have absolutely no idea what you’re getting in the draft, in particular when you start drafting DE’s in the 3rd and 4th rounds. About 98% of the time d-lineman drafted past the first round turn out be nothing special. Additionally players on the d-line rarely do anything in year one, and in case you don’t know, the Bucs sort of need to get something done right now or everyone is going to be gone next offseason and we’re going to be going through yet another rebuild.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Guzziep – Do us a favor then and go drive off the Skyway, we need the Bucs to be winners now, not when you croak from old age.

  47. Issic Haggins Says:

    It looks like a 4 th and a swap of 6 th’s

The Bucs have hands down the worst D Backfield in the NFL and the D line is about the same ………… How the Bucs wouldn’t give up a 4 th and a six for Quinn is mind boggling……….. I wrote recently that there are very quick ways to fix this team but you have be determined as a GM , you have to be willing to jump on deals and make deals . I have also written that Jason Licht over values the draft and really has no plan, he is his and the Bucs own worst enemy .

Again the Bucs offense in the Super Bowl had eight starters that were not drafted by the Bucs , Rich McKay made allot more deals than anyone ever gave him credit for , Licht ain’t got it !!

When K Johnson became avail and the Bucs needed a Big Time rec ,McKay made it happen , he was a quiet man but he made deals !!!

  48. Ateonetreebucsfan Says:

Joe this one hurts a lot. I am beyond disappointed Robert Quinn is a monster who was playing out of place last year. I would of gladly given up a first for him. If I hear the dolphins gave up anything less then a 2nd round pick I might just throw up. Hopefully we make a move on David Irving.

  49. SteveK Says:

Licht should have signe Calais Campbell.

Licht should’ve traded for Marcus Peters.

Licht should have just trade for Robert Quinn.

We have nothing, and with this regime’s track record, I expect for us to sit back and do jack sh!t while Jameis gets suspended.

The only thing I can think of is that we are stocking up on draft picks to trade for Chucky again. 😂 same old Bucs.

This is a bad dream. If we come out and have a soft ass defense last year and finish in last place, then I’ll look right at the above mentioned moves that “shoulda woulda coulda” made us a contender.

Damn this chaps my ass heading into the weeeknd. Usually the Bucs only make me drink on game days when they get their asses handed to them. Hooray for having a terrible offseason.

  50. BrianBucs Says:

Rams played a lot of 3-4 last year that cut down on Quinn’s sack totals. HUGE miss by the Bucs here

  51. BuccLuck Says:

This sucks. He should be coming to TB. The way the article sounded though from the NFL, the rams offered him to chiefs first then the dolphins. Not sure the Bucs were ever considered by the rams as a trade partner. Maybe we don’t have good connections within the league.

  52. SteveK Says:

Steve, Lee, Ira, we need an emergency podcast.

The lack of moves for Campbell, Peters, and Quinn have us headed straight for the NFCS basement. Again….

  53. SteveK Says:

We could have surely given up a 3rd for Quinn. And a 2nd for Peters. And we have the cap space to sign Campbell, but chose to sit that one out too.

    What is Licht’s plan?

Derrick Brooks for GM, he for damn sure can’t be worse.

We should have hired John Lynch.

  54. Nater Says:

Licht is the best GM the Bucs have had. He drafts, with the exception of Roberto Aguayo, the best player available. This is how it should be. The Bucs are not in cap hell. This team is being built through the draft. A few FAs here and there. The offense and defense are poorly coached. JW3 cannot help himself not so stupid crap. With the talent the offense has there’s no excuse for not being a top O. Poor play calling and bad coaching. If Smith was smarter he could have figured out a way to pressure last year. I believe in Licht. I believe he’ll draft best available. 2019 will bring a new set of coaches who, hopefully, know how to maximize talent. This team is being built the right way. Poor execution.

  55. Not there yet Says:

Don’t be upset for licht doing what he’s always done which is nothing. Stood at the podium a couple days ago talking about how close this team is. If we have no pass rush this season he should have no job because it either means he’s to stubborn and depends on rookies or he knows no one in the front offices of the nfl to be able to get anything done. Fully expect to be getting ready for a new regime

  56. Arealbucsfan Says:

Duude! Like WTF! what is Licht doing!! What is he thinking? WTF!!!! Well here’s to another lost season boys. This is the end for Licht and Koetter. Here’s to many more years of rebuilding

  57. Rrsrq Says:

    SteveK,

Yeah I’m being sarcastic but I wouldn’t put it past this regime to sign Shelby, that’s what we do

  58. Defense Rules Says:

Y’all still don’t get it. Quinn will be making over $12 mil this year & over $13 mil in 2019 (he’ll be a UFA in 2020). No way Licht & Glazers when they can get Adrian Clayborn back for less than half that & pocket the rest. It’s all about the $$$ to them.

  59. Sydney Says:

The next good FA move our GM makes will his first.

    Doesn’t surprise me at all.

People don’t like to hear this but, the kids who inherit successful businesses often screw them up. And it’s obvious the Glazer kids have done just that. An NFL franchise is a money printing machine win or lose. So what’s the incentive for rich kids to make good decisions?

Even after the GM and coach are fired next year for another last place finish, the Glazer kids will just make more of the same bad decisions and on and on and on it goes…

We already went through that with Culverhouse family.

Sell the team to owners who truly care.

  60. SteveK Says:

    Lol rrsrq!

    What are the Buccaneers doing?

Holy smokes! This outrages me just as much as the Rays tanking.

Cmon Licht!? If you’re scared, say you’re scared!

  61. Chris Says:

Ehh, he’s waiting gor the draft to pick another under sized, slow, injury prone DE in the third rd….are you really suprised, from the gm who picked a k in the 2nd and moved an All Pro caliber guard to center, to make room for floppy hat inefective Sweezy?

  62. Chris Says:

Truth is, the Rams called Licht, the bar staff at Abes couldnt wake him out of his drunken stupor.

  63. Conte Piscatelli Says:

The only acceptable answer for not being involved in a bidding war for Quinn is if they don’t think he is a fit for the 3-4 defense they plan to run next year. I don’t really think that is the reason, Most likely our front office was getting tanked at an Indianapolis area bar and didn’t even know he was available.

  64. SteveK Says:

    I’m fuming right now.

    Unacceptable!

Fans deserve an explanation as to why we choose be be offseason-impotent.

Horse manure! JBF.com should have a dozen posters or so become the new Bucs braintrust. We can’t be any worse. This is flipping ridiculous.

  65. Chris Says:

Yep, probably holed up in some Indianapolis version of Macdill Tavern….sloshed to the gills, telling Indy locals how much of his genius moves comes out of places like this.

  66. mike10 Says:

How much u wanna bet they cut Suh! Put him next to McCoy

  67. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Oh I get it, maybe we figure JW is suspended for at least 6 games, so we will take the long plan and consider next year a tank job for more draft capital. Why bring in talent this year when the plan is to lose. This would also explain keepin the coaching staff. They have proven they can lose quite proficiently. And with a top 3 pick, tons of cap money, maybe we can attract a capable coach and some impact free agents and turn the corner in two or three years.

  68. mike10 Says:

Also, when is everyone going to realize our GM ain’t that good

  69. DB55 Says:

Idk why ya upset. I keep telling ya ain’t nobody around here interested in winning except jw and ya want him suspended then booted. But I’m just a troll so wtfdik?

  70. LakeLand Says:

Jason Licht is busy at the combine……evaluating the long snappers.

  71. DB55 Says:

Ain’t nobody coming to Tampa except maybe possibly some tier 3 FAs. It’s all about luxury suites and Cuban sandwiches, don’t you know?

  72. Lord Cornelius Says:

You f*cked that up Licht. A 3rd would have beat Miami’s offer… f*ck man wtf are you doing. Super disappointed

  73. Mike Johnson Says:

Ahh Yes…Tthe true pleasures of being a Bucs fan………..As James Brown would say, Ain’t it funky now?

  74. Sweeptheleg Says:

I can’t believe people are surprised by this.

Must be young new fans that don’t know the history of the Bucs.

  75. JimmyJack Says:

Bucnjim is the most sensible poster here IMO. Everybody else is freaking out.

His point is valid that the Rams(or even Quinn) could have narrowed the teams they were willing to deal with. Half of you are calling Licht a moron but what could he really do if he called the Rams and they didn’t pick up the phone?

One guy even said the 2018 season is already over? Hahaha Dude calm yourself down and take a break. Let our GM do his job then we can judge him when it’s finished. As is, free agency hasn’t even started yet. Calm down.

  76. darin Says:

Un effing real is right. There cant be anything up lichts sleeve better than acquiring quinn. Guy is a proven pass rusher, and a damn good one. Wow. This really pisses me off. Licht is keeping his draft picks to throw them away at draft time i guess. Wtf

  77. Sweeptheleg Says:

Lol oh you can bet 2018 is definitely already over.

You can take that to the bank.

    6-10 at best.

  78. JimmyJack Says:

Sweep the league you need to relax. You can’t honestly believe that our only hope for this season is if we got Quinn. That’s just ridicilous.

  79. TOM Says:

When I saw this it made me sick. I am sick of this ownership, crap GM & coaches. Sick of the whole thing. Hey, Glazers I think you need to raise the price of tickets more. Greedy aholes.

  80. BucEmUp Says:

    Doesn’t matter

  81. JimmyJack Says:

Heck for all we know they think that Chubb is the real deal and are holding their equity to trade up for him.

Understand we need a pass rusher, probably two……but there’s more then just one guy they could have their radar on…….If their plan is Quinn or bust that was an awful plan to begin with for several reasons.

  82. darin Says:

A mid round pick? Licht should be fired today. I just said other day if he could get him for a 2nd he should. The guy is that good. Dolphins giving up a 3rd or 4th. Wow. Lets see who licht gets in rounds 3 and 4 this year. Im guessing a corner who they switch to safety in week 6. Then back to corner next year. Wtf licht. No 2nd 3rd or 4th round DE is gona be quinn for years. Unreal.

  83. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

No one cared until Joe brought it up.

    I certainly still don’t.

  84. TOM Says:

Oh I almost forgot. You will still see thousands in the stands, while the Glazers are laughing there asses off on the way to the bank. Sell the team to someone who cares.

  85. JimmyJack Says:

I’ll wait to see who we get for DE before I decide to jump off ship. One move doesn’t go our way and you guys are coming unglued…….This is the funniest thread I ever saw.

  86. Knucknbuc Says:

Can I through licht into the ocean instead of the pool when this team is crap again? Something don’t feel right about this off-season all ready. Either we are going to be good or complete crap. I’m guessing complete crap.

  87. darin Says:

62.5 sacks, 108 QB hits, 68 tackles for loss and 20 forced fumbles over his seven-year career. Missed alot of 15 and 16′. League high 16 strip sacks since 12′. And Licht doesnt cough up a 3rd? Youre right Joe. Licht has plenty of explaining to do. I just cant grasp this one. Wow. Free agency and the draft is weak on DEs. Quinn is there for the thieving and licht wont put down his sierra nevada and pick up the phone. Id love an explanation but once I hear it Ill wish I didnt. Boo birds are out tonight Licht

  88. Kansas95Buc Says:

At this point the Glazers should just sell the team to someone who wants to win…..effing ridiculous

  89. Bucssuccs Says:

Our new unofficial nickname for licht is “the three stooges lookalike, wearing sneakers for a tuxedo, good for nothing GM.”

  90. SteveK Says:

    This is bull sh!t

  91. SteveK Says:

Can the fans start a petition? Unbelievable

  92. Fanalyzer34 Says:

    Darin,

I told you the other day he could be had for a 4th rounder. The lack of aggression by this front office is maddening. Its like they’re afraid to make a mistake on a known commodity.

  93. Memberberries Says:

Somebody should have told Licht that Quinn was an over-hyped kicker.

  94. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

McCoy even weighed in on it. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️

  95. DesertBucsfan Says:

Very disappointed. Being a Bucs fan since 76 is a tough life to live. Maybe a trade up for Chubb. Still don’t get why these FA are not Bucs. I know Quinn would have made an immediate change for our defense. Wake up management.

    Go Bucs

  96. SteveK Says:

Right! Our 4th is better than Miami’s.

What are the Bucs doing? This is just bad.

Calais Campbell, Marcus Peters, and Robert Quinn should all be Buccaneers and all could’ve been had by Licht.

If we come out next year and finish in last place in the division again then what?

  97. DB55 Says:

    Jimmyjack

It’s not just Quinn it’s 3 years of piss poor FA signings and missed opportunities. It’s a trend my friend.

  98. SteveK Says:

GMC should be pissed. Been here 8 years and the only help he had was cut by Dom.

Now Licht is drinking brewskis and not making trades that would make us better.

This is bad, no way of polishing this turd.

damn this terrible team and their impotent ways. Damn them!

  99. LakeLand Says:

    darin

They still have Will Gholston as their starting DE

    10 Sacks
    2 FF
    27 QB hits

And it only took him 5 years to achieve this much success

  100. Ndog Says:

Hey guus you ever think they didn’t want him in the NFC? Cheifs then Dolphins both in the AFC.

  101. DB55 Says:

Miami gets Quinn and Rams 6th pick.

Rams get a 4th and 6th this year.

So they traded for a 4th round pick. Lol, go have another pitcher of beer on the clock in shorts and flip-flops licht. Smh, you’re doing great!

  102. SteveK Says:

    Db55,

    You’re damn right!

We keep the muscle shamster, sign a tree humper, and just watch marquee players get traded for pennies on the dollar.

This team lacks results and therefore should have to answer as to why they are standing pat.

Gosh this just seems like we are kissing in the wind. Shameful operations of our football team.

Damn Bucs brass! At least give the fans an answer. This is ludicrous.

  103. Guzziep Says:

Got to save that mid round pick to move up to 2nd and drafted a kicker, we already tried the FSU kicker, let s get the Gators kicker this team…..GO GATORS

  104. Sweeptheleg Says:

    @jimmyjack

No 2018 is already over without having anything to do with Quinn.

But this is an example of why but not the cause.

  105. Dewey Selmon Says:

Maybe he didn’t want go to a team with a QB facing a 6 game suspension?

  106. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Perhaps, but draft capital speaks for itself. We could have offered a 3 for Quinn and they would’ve not turned that down.

Additionally, Marcus Peters should be a Buc. Our cbs on the roster suck.

You know, licht’s #11 overall pick that plays 20 yards off the LOS.

Shameful football operations at its finest.

When Cleveland has a better record than our Bucs this year, can we graduate from the “den of depression” to the “factory of sadness”?

C’mon Buc Realist, what day you on this matter? I gotta believe this is disappointing to you.

  107. SteveK Says:

    Dewey,

C’mon dude! A trade is a trade, and you don’t get to say “no” unless their is a no trade clause. Pretty sure Quinn didn’t have that.

  108. Zabatsu Prodis Says:

With the large cap space we have (over $60 million I think?), this should have been a no-brainer, bolster our weakest area of the roster with Robert Quinn, who, unlike Darrelle Revis, is not coming off a major injury and is under the age of 30.

Looking back at past Buccaneers trades, we’ve brought in Joey Galloway, Simeon Rice, Logan Mankins who all panned out. Being bold in itself isn’t such a bad strategy, just takes good timing and ability to scan the environment across the NFL, which all good GMs do like the ones in Philadelphia and New England.

Of course, I’m probably putting much more effort typing this out than Licht ever gave thought into trading for Quinn …

  109. Guzziep Says:

Gators kicker this time….autocorrect is drinking more than me, I’m jumping off the skyway bridge later if I survive I’m becoming a browns fan, at least they have hope

  110. denjoe Says:

I was worried that the Glazers, were just writing this year off! I kind of expect them to trade down. It’s like they are gonna punish the fans. Maybe I’m wrong. I hope so, but they don’t seem to very interested in this team right now! IMO! If Licht’s running this thing on his own, were screwed!

  111. Sweeptheleg Says:

The glazers are too worried about that other boring as s pathetic sport where the players fall down and roll around on the ground screaming in pain if a blade of grass touches their shin.

  112. JimmyJack Says:

I thing you guys could use some perspective.

Say we come out of free agency with Bennet and Poe and no sixth round pick?
Would you rather have that or rather have Quinn, DaQuon Jones and no third round pick?

You might pick the Quinn side but I think you’d agree it’s pretty danger close.

Point is let it play out before jumping off ship.

  113. Sweeptheleg Says:

    @jimmyjack

How long have you been on this ship?

“Oh be patient guys just wait and see”

“It’s all ok” “we’re so close”

Shut up already. Some of us have been watching this sh it show for 20+ years.

And this is just the latest example in a treasure trove of examples of bad decisions by bad decision makers.

  114. JimmyJack Says:

I highly doubt the Glazers had anything to do with this decision.

  115. Skoorb Says:

    A 4th round pick
    Swap of 6th round picks
    22 million over 2 years

Uh yes they better have a damn good reason not to take that deal. We could’ve made it even sweeter probably. And if I hear a statement saying they didn’t get a call or have a chance for an offer, I call complete bull spit. Any one looking to trade a pass rusher is absolutely calling us. Maybe first.

  116. JimmyJack Says:

Sweeptheleg…….I get what your saying. Been a fan just as long.

But I’m certainly not going to write off this season because of one player. If anything I will write them off due to coaching decisions.

  117. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

19 posts in folks…on this thread, this guy said, long before this chaos with some people new I don’t recognize…..

That Jason….might be saving his draft capital….for someone far more important. That would be Barkley for the slow and impaired.

If the draft compensation is 5ht round or lower, then Licht should have made the trade, plenty of cap cash space. If the compensation is 4th rounder or better, the MAYBE…..pull your heads out of your arses….Jason is saving his draft capital….for the NIGHT OF APRIL 26TH.

    Say it with me….SA-QUON, SA-QUON, SA-QUON.

If not he just missed (again)! Commence the stoning!

    Go Bucs!

  118. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Skoorb…and everyone else….

Read my take above this one.

    If you’re new….don’t bother responding with some…noise.

    Go Bucs!

  119. DanBucsFan Says:

WTF ?!?!?! Licht you dropped the ball on this one. Im really trying to give him the benefit of doubt, but first Peters, now Quinn. This was a pass rusher that woulda been an A++ addition. Instead he gets traded and for a 3rd or 4th round pick… DISGUSTING! !!

  120. Sweeptheleg Says:

    @jimmyjack

I never said I’m writing off the season because of this single decision.

2018 was 6-10 season before a word was mentioned about Quinn being traded.

Again these types of decisions are a cumulative effect. And it starts at the top and rolls right on down to the bottom.

  121. LakeLand Says:

Jason Licht won’t trade up for Saquon Barkley unless he can kick a 30 yard FG.

  122. Bucnjim Says:

With the offense only being two players away from being great they will keep us in most games next year. The D needing an influx of YOUNG and TALENTED players my guess is offense in free agency and straight D in this draft.

  123. JimmyJack Says:

Sorry Skoorb I’ve just heard that too many times in sports to just write it off. You will just about never see a team trade within their own division and often teams will choose to trade outside their own conference. Just go back and look at trade history and the majority are made outside conference.

Maybe that wasn’t the case here or maybe Licht could have had him at a higher price.

  124. 1Gr8Buc Says:

I was holding out to renew my season passes for some kind of hope this offseason….. Unless something insanely drastic happens they will not be renewed. Not wasting my money let a line an entire day off supporting a team with no desire or balls to win.

  125. Bucnjim Says:

We forget also that our D is very strong at LB! Kwon has another year of experience and is eager to further his leadership role. If the Bucs can improve at all along the line and in the secondary I can see us surprise a few people.

  126. JimmyJack Says:

I’m not going to argue you on that Sweep. We haven’t shown anything more then a 6-10 team on the field.

I won’t be convinced no matter who they bring in.

But I do think we have some good pieces here. We just play like a soft ass football team imo. I think this team could get turned around quickly I just don’t see it under this staff.

  127. Bucnjim Says:

Not saying rush out and buy tickets but if the Bucs get their hands on a stud RB it will be very hard to stop them no matter what team or D they are facing.

  128. JimmyJack Says:

But I still like Licht…..I believe in order for a GM to supplement the team from free agency you have to have good evaluation from your coaching staff.

Evaluating things like Doug was finished and that WR(DJax) and DT(Baker) were bigger needs then DE were pure misevaluation. Yes, it’s Lichts fault caus he is in charge. But the staff works with these guys every day and their evaluation is part of it.

  129. aussieBucfan Says:

I swore out loud for 30 seconds straight when to this came up on my news feed.

Can’t wait till we get some bargain basement replacement and have to read all the pr bullcrap how he will take this defense to the next level only to be let go 1 or 2 season later insert Ric Flair woooooo!!

  130. Bucnjim Says:

Jimmy Jack it has been that way since Kiffin and Marinelli left. Somehow we became a finesse team especially on D (maybe because of rule changes) Know we have been short on the field leadership. Do not hate McCoy he’s a very good player but again he falls under that finesse description. There are dobermans, there are shepards, and then there is what you really need: Pitbulls!

  131. JimmyJack Says:

What if we trade for Bennett then sign Suh to a contract? Will you guys still be angry about Quinn?

  132. Lamarcus Says:

    I’ll give benefit of doubt

Rams probably did a good service to Quinn trading him to a respectable team

Trading him to the Bucs with a soft dline would been an embarrassment to him.

  133. SteveK Says:

I’m still pissed. This is ridiculous.

  134. SteveK Says:

We needed this guy. On the right side of 30 and could’ve moved our 4th for him.

No excuse for this mismanaged roster ran by nitwits.

  135. El_Buc941 Says:

In other news…ppl over at BSPN think Tampa has a chance of landing Leveon Bell….would you rather have Quinn…..or Bell….I think this offense is a dominant RB from being a top 3 offense.we have the wide receivers and the tight ends and the QB…missing piece is the RB….

  136. Bucnjim Says:

What if we traded McCoy to Cleveland to switch their 4th our 7th and the same in the second their 1st pick for our 6th. Fair and positive for both sides.

  137. tmaxcon Says:

another hit to the optimists that actually think the bucs ownership gives a crap

  138. Capt.Tim Says:

The Bucs were the WORST In the league ,at sacking the QB.
And a very good DE was traded for a 4th round pick.

This team has no interest in winning.

Two kinds of owners. Some really want to win. For others, its a business.
The Glazers treat this team as a business. The spend as little as they have to.
If the team wins, Yay! If not, it doesnt matter. They get rich off the TV money.
And your money, that you give them, is just a bonus.

We care about wins and loses. The owners care about money.

  139. SteveK Says:

LeVeon Bell is going to get franchise tagged.

And, with all our cap space, why not cut Ayers and trade for Quinn. He was ripe for the picking and our owners/Gm did jack sh!t.

    Capt. Tim- you’re absolutely right.

  140. old time buc Says:

Aussie – I did the same thing when they moved up to get that failure as a kicker. It appears to me L must owe a lot of favors to other teams as bad as he seems to be.

  141. VA BUC Says:

The Glazers Must fire Jason Litch now they must they have to he just blee the whole off season

  142. VA BUC Says:

    Blew*

  143. Tbbucs3 Says:

Another Free agency swing and a miss by Jason Licht. However in this case and with Calais Campbell, there was no swing just the miss.

Probably too busy looking for bargain players like Robert Ayers who will bust or be average at best.

  144. Crockett69 Says:

My friends ….. there is a method to the madness. Let’s be realistic. Give the boys (Light/Koetter) one more shot. I am re-opting my season tix. We are 2 defensive stars away from bad ass, IMO. It’s the wave action theory. You look at one set of waves and scoff…….over time it will have an effect. Errors in judgment were made this is true but fire from the bellows is what we need to ignite these embers. I am being philosophical in the most positive light.

  145. tmaxcon Says:

    Crockett69

you might want to back off the happy pills there is ZERO hope for the bucs organization. It’s ran by clowns that have ZERO desire to field a respectable team. There are NO positives with the bucs organization or future.

  146. Tbbucs3 Says:

Get on the phone Licht!!! Don’t be passive. Good things are not gonna come to you and fall in your lap. You have to aggressively go after these high caliber players in free agency. Every year I hear about how we have so much cap space, we’ll, it’s cause Licht either doesn’t use it or when he does, he doesn’t use it correctly.

  147. Kansas95Buc Says:

What makes me mad the most is that we never hear about the Bucs ACTIVLEY pursing a player that can really help us. I know we cant sign everybody but damn where’s the effort of building a winning team?! That right there is what is making people mad, no effort in getting quality players

  148. Tbbucs3 Says:

It’s just Jason “Bargain Players” Licht at it again.

  149. Bucsfan951 Says:

Christ almighty! I’m really losing faith in licht and fast. Season hasn’t officially started yet and I’m almost ready to write it off. Dude trades up for a kicker but isn’t trading mid round picks for proven players. I don’t get it at all 🤷🏻‍♂️#inlichtiusetotrust

  150. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsfan951

you first mistake was having faith in the first place.

  151. 813bucboi Says:

    @realist

    Where you at?

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  152. NCMike Says:

Fire the GM for not trading a 4th for a guy that has had 9 sacks in the last 2 seasons?

  153. BucsFan90 Says:

Licht is a moron. Plain and simple. Glazer boys clearly don’t give a sh*t about this franchise as long as they are making $$ off the backs of fans. The lack of accountability is sickening

  154. SteveK Says:

Yup this was a sh!tty nonmove by Licht.

  155. JimmyJack Says:

One thing absent in this thread is Quinn’s injury history. He’s missed over a full season of the last three.

This could have been a factor as well. 8.5 sacks sounds nice til you averaged the last three seasons and look at under 6.

  156. JimmyJack Says:

Now you look at a guy like Bennett who has been very durable and maybe that is a big reason why he is(probably should be) on this teams radar.

Licht is building with his job on the line……maybe looking at a recently unreliable Quinn was enough to scare him off.

  157. Lamarcus Says:

I think the current players or “superstars” should come out say something. That’ll be my expectation for them in the up coming days. Licht wants “bridge players” for his rookies. Not Quinn or Peters. With saying that you will probably see Talib and Bennett here.

  158. Lamarcus Says:

    Jimmy jack

You won’t take Quinn for 4th and a swap for 6’s??

  159. Lamarcus Says:

I will take Quinn with my 7 overall pick!!! You can’t F that pick up

  160. 813bucboi Says:

    Jimmy

It’s still better than nothing…… You can say the same thing about Ziggy….. But I’ll take him…. Every player is going to have injuries….. Bell has injuries….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  161. richbucsfan Says:

I’ve read here about Licht’s love for the brew. Makes you wonder if he’s got a serious issue that is affecting his work. Would hate for that to be true … Seems like he misses out on the low hanging fruit and goes for the fruit rotting on the ground. He may need help.

  162. adam from ny Says:

the end is coming….the word on the streets is the bucs might get demoted to the ncaa

  163. adam from ny Says:

goodell said he is considering dropping 2 pro teams down a level to the ncaa…one afc and one nfc…word is the bucs and browns are getting scaled back to the collegiate level…

  164. Jeffbuc Says:

Better buc I’m not shooting for 8-8 I want to win some playoff games. One running back isn’t going to make that happen. Look at the running backs in the super bowl no first round picks. 3 were un drafted. The year before Atlanta starting running back is what a 5th rounder. There are no guarantees in the draft the more picks you have the better your odds are of finding studs. He he fell to us at 7 than he’ll yeah I will be screaming at the tv to draft him. But not give up a 2nd and 5th this year and probably a1st or 2nd next year for him. Look what Kamara did for the saints and he wasn’t drafted high. David Jonson not drafted high. Le’Veon Bell, Dalvin Cook, Jordan Howard, jay ajayi, and the list goes on. Adrian Peterson was a once in a lifetime run i back and what did the Vikings win with him. So to give up the draft for him I repeat is stupid. But I bet you are probably a Penn State fan. So that would make since with your infatuation

  165. cmurda Says:

The prudent move would have been to undercut the Fins for Quinn. In fact, our 4th rounder carries more value than the Fins 4th rounder. How improved would our team be if we gave up say a 3rd and 4th rounder for Quinn and Ajayi. Difference makers for cheap. Instead, we have Noah Spence with a bum shoulder and still a need for RB. May I suggest a nice stopgap in CJ Anderson.

  166. SteveK Says:

Let’s compare this year’s 4th round pick vs. Robert Quinn’s production this year. Not fair?! You’re absolutely right! Not making this morning be is not fair to the fans.

I hope Joe asked Licht why not in Indianapolis. This is dog sh!t.

  167. SteveK Says:

When we finish last in the division, please point directly to this nonmove. This is bad football operations at its finest.

  168. JimmyJack Says:

Lamarcus if I had no other options then yes I would take Quinn.

But I could see an option of Bennett and Poe being in play and costing us a sixth rounder.

That might be better then Quinn and DaQuan Jones costing us a third rounder.

Or maybe you substitute Suh for Poe…….I also think Mo Wilkerson is more talented then Quinn. Maybe the Bucs got a good feeling the can sign and get him playing a t a high level.

I just don’t think this offseason has to be Quinn or bust. Heck, maybe they love Chubb and want to save their picks to trade up for him.

I do think they need to make big moves on the line and I’ll overreact when they go into camp without having made one. Otherwise Til then ill it play out

  169. Waterboy Says:

Licht’s time is about up as GM. They need to demote him to the VP of college scouting and hire someone else to fill his current role. I wish they could bring Jon Robinson back from Tennessee to take over. He seems to do a better job than Licht at utilizing all of his tools to field a put together a complete roster.

  170. 813bucboi Says:

Bennett has injuries…. Plus Quinn is younger….

    Is Licht tanking????

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  171. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    I’m not mad, just disappointed…

Maybe Licht has something planned 🤔

    Hopefully

  172. Waterboy Says:

I’d take both Quinn at 11 mil a year and Bennett who will probably get 8 mil a year in free agency. And still look to bring in more guys for the right price. 22 sacks won’t cut it again next season.

  173. JimmyJack Says:

813…..I know you’ll take either of them as would most Buc fans. Difference is our jobs aren’t on the line and we both know that injuries could derail a season.

I could easily see why Licht would not want to rest the fate of this Dline on a guy whose been having injury issues. Foresight is part of being a GM. They don’t get hindsight luxuries like us fans do.

  174. JimmyJack Says:

Mike Zimmerman with the quote of the year IMO…..”If we pick the wrong QB I’m getting fired”

    Hahahaha

  175. Bucsfan951 Says:

2 time pro bowler Peters goes for a 4th and 2nd…
2 time pro bowler Quinn goes for a 4th and 6th…
    Licht uses a 5th for sackless Johnson?…
    Licht trades a 3rd and 4th to draft a kicker?…
Ok, the writing is on the wall now. Can’t wait to move on from licht. If only the nfl could force the glazers to sell the team to a competent owner.

  176. JimmyJack Says:

That’s a fair point Waterboy. But I think they want somebody next to McCoy and will be in the market for Poe or Richardson, maybe Suh.

They kinda showed me that was their direction last year when they targeted Baker over and End. I’m thinking they still want an upgrade at DT and if they don’t sign somebody they could be drafting one rounds 1-2

  177. Mark Says:

Relax Joe. We don’t need him. We are very, very close.

  178. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Damn

  179. SteveK Says:

    JimmyJack,

I hope there is a plan in place that is better than paying Calais Campbell, trading for Marcus Peters, and trading for Robert Quinn. We have the cap space and the ammo. The picks that were sent from respective trading teams are not as valuable as ours.

Our lack of talent at DE/CB is inexcusable.

  180. JimmyJack Says:

Steve…..Their better be a plan in place, especially at DE. Only options I like right now are trading for Bennett or JPP(I kinda made that one up) or signing Wilkerson……and Wilkerson may easily fail an interview. Or they could trade for Chubb if they think he’ll make an impact. Maybe Buckner could lure Peppers here though that sounds unlikely.

Other then that maybe there’s somebody that’s on the trade market that’s under the radar. Cardinals could be a target with Buckner knowledge and them changing staffs.

I don’t mind us not trading for Peters because the draft and FA has tons more options then DE which is what we need our trade assets for.

  181. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s sad when the fan base is in unison about moves like this or Campbell and we see/hear no attempts by our GM.

Our next GM should be JBF polls lol

  182. JimmyJack Says:

Tennessee just changed staffs too and they need help on offense and have some decent pass rushers. Wouldn’t be the first trade we made with them……just spitballing ideas, where NFL Nut when ya need him?

  183. DanBucsFan Says:

    @LordConelius

I sadly was thinking the same thing bud. I mean as much time as most of us put in trying to find ways to solve the teams issues and the man who is paid to do so does ZERO to try and upgrade the team.

  184. Pawel Says:

Would you send 4th and 3rd to move up for DE Chubb?

Yes because its cheaper, younger and can have fo atleast 4 years.

  185. Duke Says:

    Jimmyjack,

Suh isn’t going anywhere. The entire point of the trade was to add another player next to Suh. The Dolphins now have, on paper, a monstrous d line. Wake, Suh, Quinn.

And the Bucs, Fla’ s 3rd best NFL team, we got hope that ………never mind.

  186. SteveK Says:

    LordCornelius,

    You got it, dude.

Obvious moves they would present an immediate upgrade and our GM didn’t get it done. I just don’t get it. Marcus Peters is worth a two and three, and Quinn is most certainly worth a four.

Calais Campbell should’ve been offered $16 million per.

We have the ammo and the cap space, but it’s become evident that our owners/GM don’t have a phucking clue.

For phucks sake, what the hell is going on?

I’ll cool off and try to be optimistic that we make some good moves before the season, but these nonmoves are stupid. The fans deserve to at least hear, “we made some calls” or something. Licht needs to be asked why he was ok with lot parting with a 4th and swapping 6’s for Quinn’s services?

    Honestly this is terrible.

  187. JimmyJack Says:

Duke you might be right about Suh. But I don’t know why your are jealous of the Dolphins. They are a pretty bad football team right now too. We also beat them in their field if we have to unnessarily argue about it.

Aside from that they had one of the most expensive rosters in the league last year and they don’t even have a QB….. They hardly know what they are doing in Miami.

  188. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

We are all devaluing these mid round picks talking about “We could’ve traded for Peters, Quinn, etc for only a 3 and 4th round pick.” I think we are all forgetting how good Licht is in the mid rounds. I mean, we found the leader of our defense in a mid round right? We found a cornerstone LT and another stud LB in those rounds too. There are impact players in rounds 3 and 4 too guys

    See The Licht

  189. DanBucsFan Says:

He won’t have a answer for us. But he posts a stupid video about feeling our passion and being proud to be a part of the organization. … I bet you are because you Mr Licht are proving you are in over your head as a Gm. Probably a good college scout, but Gm u dont have what it takes. I FEAR he is going to do more damage before he is clipped, by over paying for average free ahents instead of singing top tier players at high end salaries. No no no, I can see him overpaying for AVERAGE !!! Man we are beyond upset and WE have damn good reason to be.

  190. DanBucsFan Says:

I somewhat agree with you FIRST DOWN TAMPA…but at De where we have our BIGGEST HOLE, anyone we pick in 3-5 is 99% likely to take years to develop into a player like Quinn.

  191. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    DanBucsFan

Well, even though Licht has been far from even average on his FA signings, none of them are really hurting because we still have plenty of cap room and we’ve been able to get off the hook of most of these bad contracts. So that’s the one silver lining. And I see your point about Quinn being able to produce immediately and fill our undisputed biggest need. However, is it wise to gamble on a player riddled with injuries or a guy with locker room issues (Peters) when you could potentially find the next Kwon Alexander with that pick?

  192. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Licht could have grabbed Peters and Quinn for essentially a 3rd and a 4th this year and a 2nd next year. We had better positioned draft picks than both the Rams and Dolphins.

He could have shored up CB and added a really good DE and still had his premium draft picks and money to spare.

If he fails to sign Norwell then he will have whiffed on 3 Pro Bowlers.
    wonderful job thus far.

I’m sure he’ll say BS like “proper fit” and “right type of Buccaneer man”. No playoffs in a decade. This is why.

This is not a step forward in the quest to…

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  193. USFBUC Says:

Just hoping there’s a plan some where even if it’s on a napkin…

  194. Oxycondoms Says:

Rams called while licht was choking on a chicken wing

  195. JimmyJack Says:

First Down…….It’s kinda hard to make a case for Licht this offseason where he doesn’t have to take some type of a risk.

When you look back at what he has done with drawing up contracts he can get away from it has actually been pretty smart because it afforded us more opportunity to make other moves. Ideally you would get more out of those signings and Licht wouldn’t be on the hot seat……but he is and this has to be the year he spends the offseason to take bigger risk to get this team winning.

I can’t really see how anyone would expect this team to have a successful season if we fill holes on the roster with low end free agents and rookies.

Jason Licht sucks at drafting, he sucks in free agency. he sucks as a GM, how can anyone defend this mindless prick.

Point well made. Im just disgusted right now, thinking that Licht is just standing in place while other teams are making moves \ upgrades. I will cool off im sure and I have always tried to give our Gm the benefit of doubt as I hope he knows more than I do about such moves , but I am losing my patience for sure. Go Bucs !!!

    Jimmyjack,

I’m not jealous , what I see is a team that is not standing by waiting to rebuild. I don’t care what their record was last year because they had their starting QB on the IR list day 1.

I see the other Fla team’s swinging early and often in an effort to get better. The Bucs seem to be waiting for that perfect pitch before they swing. The team has no cap issues and as you point out, Miami does and they still have the stones to go out and get a FA that could transform their d line into one the better in the league.

The Bucs have McCoy and have literally abandoned him by not looking for help.

The jaquars have a monster d line. How did they do it, by going out and getting players until they finally achieved their goal.

The Bucs have fallen behind the other teams. I’m ok with that if they have a plan in place to address the issue now. Not over several more drafts, now. John Elway said today, the way the NFL is today there is no such thing as rebuilding. That’s straight from the horses mouth. A GM btw. So yeah Jimmy I think it’s reasonable to assume that the Bucs follow a path cut by our in state rivals and stop being passive and conservative . Especially when the path has proven to be a successful one.

Lamarcus, good points except I do not think the Fins are a “quality” organization…. If Tampa is Cleveland South than so is Miami. Recall that this is one of the few clubs that Tampa actually outplayed last year and the only road win… Going to Miami is not like going to New England, Pittsburgh or any of the other contenders. Fins have not had a glamour year since ’72 and the undefeated season and Miami highlights are when they split with the Jets (another team as bad or worse than the Bucs) and when Shula, Griese (RIP Earl Morrall), Mercury Morris, Czonka and the boys chug some champagne at the steakhouse when the last undefeated season falls. Yeah the Bucs dropped the ball but knowing the fins luck the guy will end up IR’d as the Dolphins seem cursed just like the Bucs….

Truth Lakeland,he did have a draft in 2015 where he got some talent ala Smith Marpet, Kwon and Jameis (by default) and most point to that as his body of work but neglect to mention that he followed that up with the 2016 draft that got VH3, Spence, Aguoyo none of whom have done much of anything except regress and embarrass and are one of the worst top 3 draft trios a team has ever drafted. Licht looks like deadman walking IMHO unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

There are still three players out there that the Bucs can trade for. Muhammad Wilkerson, Michael Bennett and Aqib Talib. If they let all three of these players go to other teams then there is no excuse for incompetence.
