Richard Sherman Spooks Joe

March 8th, 2018

Breaking down?

Look, Joe isn’t going to gripe if the Bucs decide to sign veteran Pro Bowl corner Richard Sherman. But the thought scares Joe.

Sherman has had some leg injuries in recent seasons. His ruptured Achilles is one that springs to mind. He also just had a leg bone shaved in hopes of preventing future injury.

Look, Joe loves Sherman’s passion for the game and the Stanford grad is clearly a bright guy. But when a dude who will turn 30 later this month, who relies on speed to be among the game’s best, is having issues with both of his wheels — multiple issues — c’mon.

Why not just do the right and smart thing and bring back Brent Grimes? It’s not like the Bucs are in salary cap hell.

Charmin is looking for someone to take over the $11 million contract and has 2 bad wheels. If the Bucs sign him, consider it the death nail for 2018. Sign Grimes is better move.

  2. Pit Says:

Maybe they bring both of them Joe……

  3. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Sherman pre injury 100% all in but now he is a broken down corner? Its like the bucs all over again when they began the path to 2018 by signing revis and giving up a top 10 pick, Skill guys use their feet for everything and to have a bad wheel, NO THANKS The bucs have a stable of those guys, that cannot cover julio jones, michale thomas and any panther WR

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

Way too many injuries and he’s on the wrong side of 30. If not for that, he’d be a no-brainer!

  5. Dooshlarue Says:

Overrated, dirty player, big mouth, injury prone, oh yeah….let’s sign him!

  6. tnew Says:

Would love him as a db coach… maybe not as a db tho. Father time is undefeated.

  7. pewterpirate99 Says:

Sorry I have zero interest in a 30 year old corner with TWO ruptured Achilles tendons who’s lost a step and is not as good as he once was. Hell to the no! If we’re going to go with old guys then let’s keep a healthy old guy in Brent Grimes. I’m all for bringing in FA’s that can help this team but only if they’re healthy and have something left in the tank. NEXT!

  8. tmaxcon Says:

Given the FACT bucs are least desirable location in nfl just be happy with the scrape heap garbage players ghlazer traditionally prefer and collect…

4-12 gets more optimistic by the day

    Hard pass on Sherman

  10. Dade City Buc Mike Gray Says:

Appreciate the heads-up. Joe still would pass. –Joe

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Fascinating link in there Joe … Bob Condotta’s article about Sherman expecting to play for the Seahawks this year. Interesting stuff about Kris Richard (the DC that Seattle just let go), and about Kam Chancellor’s injury/rehab as well as Earl Thomas’ potential holdout. Thanks for linking that; it was very interesting.

  12. Warrenfb12 Says:

Total Licht/Koetter move signing a guy like Sherman. All banged up and over the hill. Should be a good addition to a young locker room full of young guys /sarcasm

  13. The Graham Tram Says:

Tampa is a better destination than Buffalo. Unless you’re a buffalo

  14. James Craig Marlow Says:

Another team’s super bowl leftovers… Bad investment! At least the Bennett talk is over now that he is an Eagle. Stop the madness Joe!

  15. aussieBucfan Says:

    Hmm I see..

“Grimes was able to record just six tackles with the Falcons last season before the torn Achilles sidelined him for the remainder of the year. It was only two seasons prior that he had worked his way up to being a starting corner for Atlanta and made the Pro Bowl”.

“Turning 30 in July, this could be Grimes’ last chance to earn a multi-year contract in the NFL, so mental hurdles would be the last thing he needs at the moment, just as long as he can jump over the physical ones”.

    Nah you’re right..

  16. Bobby M. Says:

Sherman WAS a solid physical corner that used a stellar pass rush as well as elite safety play to his advantage……We have neither of those components AND the dude is older, slower, more injury prone…..as well as has a well known reputation for holding/pass interference. He’ll be garbage for us. He knows he’s a system guy at this point and our system sucks.

  17. Horse Liver Says:

The word “and” is an important word. Sign back Grimes, AND do the medical due diligence on Sherman to see if he’s worth it, AND trade for Talib. Now that won’t happen because it’s the Bucs and no one will pay three name brand corners when one would be a backup, but do the Bucs management want to win or don’t they?

  18. LargoBuc Says:

Bring back Grimes. The guy has been great for us the last two years. Show him the money that he deserves. It’s not like they got to sign him for a five year deal that would result in a lot of dead space if things do not pan out. Pay the man. Draft a corner somewhere between round 1-4.

  19. Thespiritof1976 Says:

Sherman is a bigoted, ignorant, and overrated big mouth.

He is a media creation. Procreated by the four letter network.

  20. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

Sure let’s handcuff the next administration with a bunch of 1 year expensive ass players and not resign Evans, JW etc all except Kwon he can go not stop a running play somewhere else.

    Joe,

Richard Sherman has never had eilte speed.
His 40 yard dash time of 4.56 seconds- is fairly pedestrian by most standards.

What he does have an Elite Football IQ.
He just see’s the game a completely different speed.

The Fact he played receiver – @,,,*couch Stanford.
Gives him a working knowledge of route concepts, and breaking patterns.

Now U combine that w/Elite Ball Skills – and you’ve got yourself; a great corner.

“If” the guy checks-out medically. His asking price is fair.
Why not? Seriously U wouldn’t want a guy like that in the meeting room-grooming our young corners. A guy that HATES TO LOSE – who turns down for NO PHUCKING BODY. No?

How many guys in this league that have better muscle memory of *Seattle’s Kick-Step Cornerback Technique – than their 4x ALL – PRO CB Richard Sherman.

Of course – I would still sign some younger guys.
But this brotha – is “real” student of the game.
    Better than most coaches.

So his knowledge only – will elevate the position.

  22. Cover Deuce Says:

Again, for $4-6 mil on a 1 year prove it deal, I’d happily take that gamble.

  24. kevin Says:

Don’t worry about a star player spooking you. We are now #ClevelandSouth . No reason any free agent that is highly desired should sign here until Licht shows that he has an IQ above 75
